Question from Quinlanwconley (07:58, 16 August 2021)

How do I post a picture on Wikipedia --Quinlanwconley (talk) 07:59, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Quinlanwconley, hello! For newcomers, we have an image uploading process that new users can follow. In fact, it's so easy to use that I still use it. On the top left-hand side of your screen, you should see an Upload File link. If it isn't there, you can use this link instead. Bear in mind if you use this, you need to be careful that you give the right credit to the works where credit is due. Panini!🥪 12:56, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

For creating articles, please view Help:Your first article. It should give you basic instructions for the article creation process. Creating articles is one of the most difficult tasks here according to some, so understanding the site's ropes and rules is recommended before diving into large-scale projects. WikiCup 2021 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, Botswana The Rambling Man and New York (state) Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Republic of Venice Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, England Lee Vilenski, Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, Rwanda Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.

Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. George Floyd mural Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Question from Kfollettva (20:51, 15 September 2021)

HI! Thank you for being a mentor! In mid-August, I created a page for the author Caren J. Werlinger. I totally understand that it will take up to a couple of months for the page to work it's way through the approval process. My question: I want to make sure I did everything correctly - I clicked on the "publish" button . . . . . was I supposed to get any kind of "receipt" or other acknowledgment that the page was "received" and is under review? Will the page just "appear" one day? Thank you!  : ) --Kfollettva (talk) 20:51, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Kfollettva, Hello! A step here that's missing (and also, from what I remember, never explained) is submitting the draft for review. I did this step for you, but for future reference, insert the template {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page.
However, it appears that this article does not reference WP:Reliable sources. I'm assuming this content came from a site or similar, so the references used should be implemented. If you need help with this process, Wikipedia:Citing sources is an overview guide on how to add them. If this page becomes overwhelming at times, I was the exact same way when I was new, so please do not be afraid to return here and ask questions.
I also made some edits to your article to keep it in line with the WP:Manual of Style. Happy editing! Panini!🥪 22:38, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

For explaining to me how on earth I start Draft:Splatoon 3. I'm.. still a tad lost as to what info to start with but you've helped me get there. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 01:30, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

About the draft

Hey! So I remember that you said I should skip the AFC review and move my article straight to mainspace. However I'm so new to making an article that I decided to submit it for review because I was afraid if I moved it to main space, it wouldn't be suited for mainspace without me realizing and be speedied because of some reason. However seeing the review time is around 6 weeks (and due to me being impatient) I'm wondering if it would still be appropriate if I moved my article to mainspace. Please let me know! ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:29, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

C&P move

Please don't do C&P moves like this. An admin is handling a proper histmerge, but doing it *after* a C&P has already happened makes it much more difficult. -- ferret (talk) 21:19, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Blaze, don't look! I promise I know what I'm doing. Thanks for reaching out Ferret. If I recall correctly Paper Mario did have some specific merge thing like this, but I was in a rush and thought I was doing it correctly. Do I have to go to Wikipedia:Requested moves for specific moves like this? Panini!🥪
It's already been cleaned up. -- ferret (talk) 21:25, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Ferret, I saw, gave a barnstar to GN for their troubles. I'm curious to know for future reference, because if I'm writing an article it normally involves replacing a redirect (Draft:Mario & Luigi for example). Panini!🥪 21:30, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much for working with me to make Splatoon 3 into a full article. Honestly, I probably would've either just given up or had the draft deleted because it was stale by 6 months and I couldn't figure out how to start if you hadn't helped. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:35, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Of course, no problem! Due to the article being a redirect, I couldn't simply move the page into it so I had to do some extra steps. If a redirect doesn't exist it should be easier. Also, the six-month thing is a maximum. and bias normally helps speed things along. AFC can be helpful for newcomers, too! Panini!🥪 21:11, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
@Panini!: you could've listed the redirect under G6 and then moved it. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:14, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Ah, you're right! Didn't know about that one. Panini!🥪 21:17, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Mario

Hey Panini, I'm looking at your decent cleanups on Mario. It inspired me to also work on Yoshi and Bowser, but it seems like Princess Peach has no character development at all and I have no idea how to expand that section other than the other sections. I thought about asking if you have any ideas. If you're busy, feel free to ignore this message. Thanks for the editing pattern thou! GeeJay24 (talk) 22:14, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

I have some plans with friends tonight so I'll check it out for you tomorrow. See you then! Panini!🥪 22:19, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
@GeeJay24: I have a few ideas. Originally Princess Peach was basically just a side character and the damsel in distress. However since then she's evolved to play many different roles in all the Mario games (Even having her own game at one point). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 23:07, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Blaze The Wolf and Panini. Can you both verify if my cleanups on the Bowser (character) appearance section are okay if you're not too busy? Each appearance of the character is summarized, reworded, all cited with sources and aren't copy pasted. Because there's one man who wants to get rid of everything. [1]. GeeJay24 (talk) 09:36, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
GeeJay24, don't take this revert personally, Smuckola can be very direct and sometimes passive-aggressive in their edit summaries. There is a couple of things to improve upon in these edits of yours:
  • Try to avoid the use of the Mario wiki and other wikis (such as IGN's), due to their standards being very different from ours. The Mario wiki, for example, describes all the in-universe content as if the reader already knows everything about the series ("Oh yeah, I already know who the Origami Craftsman is, no need to explain him in any more detail). Wikipedia describes things as if the player doesn't know what a Toad is, but knows what Nintendo is and how video games work and stuff like that ("A 15-year-old that doesn't know anything about the game, but is knowledgeable about everything around it.") It sounds silly, but people look to Wikipedia to explain things, which is something wikis don't really offer, so we try not to depend on them.
  • Second is source choice. Wikipedia relies best on reliable, third-party sourcese to help best show high quality and notability. In this case, we only result in using game manuals when we absolutely have to. Other sources can be unrelated to the subject material but can be low-quality, which is why us gamers made WP:VG/RS, a handy dandy list of sources that are the best to use for references here. Stuff like GameSpot and IGN are good, but blog sites like GamePro and TheGamer not as much so.
  • To also best create high-quality content, list-like content, such as naming every appearance of a character and what they did that game, is frowned upon by a lot of people here. I'll use my work on Mario as an example, but even some still thought even what I did was too much; in the "Appearances and evolution" section, I explained Mario's general motive in the first paragraph of "2D games". Basically, go from left to right, save-a the preencess, so long gay Bowser". Then, every new title I list after that, I only explained what it did different from the game before. 2 had multiplayer and height differences, 3 had new powerups, World had Yoshi, and all the New titles had revamped graphics. I also explained new development content of why these changes were put in place; 2 was a reskin of Doki Doki Panic, 3 wanted to expiriment with character changes, World had Yoshi because Miyamoto likes Dinosaurs, and the New games exist due to the hiatus of the 3D ones. In the case with Bowser, I would give a brief overview of Bowser's underlying intentions (kidnap princess, rule Mushroom Kingdom"), and explain what new things Bowser as well as the developers brought to the table for every iteration of his appearance. I also rarely explain the plot of each game, something Mario Wiki does often and shouldn't be relied upon.

Hope this little guide helps! People can be frusturating, so I like to make like a donut and work around them. Taking their comments into note, of course. Please let me know if you have any comments about this process. Panini!🥪 12:41, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

I also see you're being discussed for "intolerable behavior". It seems to be a misunderstanding, so I'm talking with them to get things properly sorted out. Just keep in mind that reverting edits is seen as not okay, and discussing with the user in question is a much better approach than discussing via edit summaries. See Wikipedia:Edit warring for more details. Panini!🥪 13:40, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
I want to correct this and say that reverting edits is seen as okay, as long as it's done appropriately. If you make an edit and get reverted, the one thing you should NOT do is revert again. You should start a discussion on the talk page to see if you can reach an agreement or possibly a better alternative. See WP:BRD for more info on this process which can prevent edit warring. Reverting edits is fine if you're undoing an edit you might disagree with or you're undoing vandalism/unconstructive edits. If that edit is redone then follow the BRD process I described above. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:41, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
I don't have the intention of wasting your time that much with a long paragraph, but thanks so much to both of you for the tips. I have already removed every text from the Mario Wiki on articles. I have already rewritten the appearances section of Yoshi and Bowser (character) by following other decent articles like Lara Croft. Are these okay now? GeeJay24 (talk) 00:41, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Torgbuiga, hello! Don't fret, the notification you were given was just a warning that it could be deleted if changes weren't made soon. I made an edit to your draft to keep it from being deleted in the near future.
In addition, it also appears that your draft was declined from publishing, due to "not being adequately supported by reliable sources". What they're referring to is references used to support how your article meets Wikipedia's general notability guidelines, or, to be more descriptive, that your article has sources that prove the following:
  • Are reliable, as in high quality
  • Are unrelated to the source material, and are secondary or third-party sources. For example, an interview with a musician is a primary source due to the musician being involved with it.
  • Are plentiful, as in multiple sources to prove it is known by lots of people, and the subject has received "significant coverage", as we call it.
Hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please feel free to stop by. Panini!🥪 12:58, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

The article Animal Crossing: New Horizons you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. SPlatoon 3 release date

Hey Panini! So about that edit on Splatoon 3 an IP did: I'm not finding any sources that give us that exact release date, however i am finding one that gives us a bit more of an exact release date however Nintendo has actually said that they still aren't exactly sure when it'll release. This is the source I found stating this. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:59, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

This appears to be nothing official, and the quality of this source (not Comicbook, the Twitter user ) and the fact this isn't being relayed elsewhere means this is a bit too obscure for inclusion. By all means, go for it if the post gets traction, but for now I find it better to stick with what's confirmed. Panini!🥪 15:10, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
Yep. I wasn't planning on changing it to match the source since Nintendo is still unsure about it according to the source so it would be better to wait until it becomes a bit more solid. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:21, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Please can you help check this article out and let me know how I can improve it? I've been working on it for a while now. Thanks --Bukky658 (talk) 15:37, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello Bukky658! Formatting and writing looks good, but just make sure you add dates and years of when events happen if you have access to that info (like you did in Personal Life). Beyond that, let's deal with those stupid tags at the top of the page that someone was, let's say, "kind" enough to empasize.
  • Some of this article's listed sources may not be reliable: There's some high-quality sources here, and to that I say Good Job! Finding the best sources to use can be difficult for newcomers. I believe the user was referring to the use of some that are either low-qulality or primary sources, such as Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes and Noble. You can visit WP:Reliable Sources for this (linked here) for help on finding good-quality sources.
  • The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for biographies. While primary sources, due to the quantity of sources I do believe this article doesn't have this problem. You made need to go the extra mile to help prove that, however; try to find as many high-quality sources you can and then use them in this article to prove he meets our notability guidelines for inclusion.

Let me know if you have any further questions! Panini!🥪 16:55, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Panini! thank you so much for your response, I have tried improving the article and removing the primary sources attached, but is it possible to list the books without linking them to the primary sources?

Damn dirty commie!

Reeeeeeee!

God damn! Shipping! That had me rolling. You're a man of comedy class, I can tell. If only, if only Wikipedia had a few more like you, and maybe a few fewer bloodless old goats, if only. Much love! Joe (talk) 18:39, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Addition of main article to my page

Hey! I noticed you added {{main|Good Job!}} to a barnstar on my talk page. Was this a mistake? if not why did you do it? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:13, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

I found it ironic that the barnstar said nothing but "Godd job". I linked to Good Job to "clarify what they meant" in a silly manner. Panini!🥪 14:21, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
Oh ok! I was honestly rather confused when you did that. If someone adds a barnstar that doesn't specify what I did to deserve it, then I will ask them why they gave my the barnstar. I've only received 2 barnstars that provided no context as to why I received it. 1st one I still have not figured out what I earned it for (therefore I"m not considering it a legit barnstar) and the other I was given some clarification (outside of you linking it to Good Job as a joke). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

The article Animal Crossing: New Horizons you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Animal Crossing: New Horizons for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Question from Khanyisa.N on User talk:41.114.139.212 (18:52, 11 November 2021)

Hi why do other most celebrities aren't here --Khanyisa.N (talk) 18:52, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Khanyisa.N! Are you referring to the lack of celebrity-related articles? The two main reasons it could feel this way is because someone (like you!) has yet to create one, or more importantly, they dont meet out general notability guidelines. Panini!🥪 12:24, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Question from Khanyisa.N (18:55, 11 November 2021)

Hello how can I upload my picture --Khanyisa.N (talk) 18:55, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Khanyisa.N! To upload pictures, I recommend following the File Upload Wizard, which guides newcomers through the process of uploading images. It's also really useful; I've been here over a year and I still use it. Also remember, if you're image is not-free (such as being copyrighted or owned by somebody else), always abide by our non-free content criteria. Let me know if you have any further questions! Your totally awesome floating panini!

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Eewilson (talk) 03:34, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

Eewilson, thanks! I'm a master coder, I know. I definitely didn't copy and paste the code from User talk:Fuhghettaboutit with some modifications. Nope, not me! If you want it, I pasted the code below. Remember not to give any credit to Fuhghettaboutit. They did absolutely nothing in the process.

(In this completely new variant I wrote myself for your sake, there are some modifications from mine. Replace the file with an image of your choosing, and replace the article hyperlink with one of your choosing as well. In my version at the top of my user page, I use an emoji rather than a file, so the hyperlink function doesn't work and it's upscaled 500x. Don't question why it's related to billiards. It's unimportant. Fuhghettaboutit, if you will.)

<div style="position: fixed; right:0; bottom:0; display:block; height:{{{1|100}}}px; width:{{{1|100}}}px;"><div style="position: relative; width: {{{1|150}}}px; height: {{{1|150}}}px; overflow: hidden"> <div style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; font-size: 300px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 300px; z-index: 3">[[Balkline and straight rail|...]]</div> <div style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; z-index: 2">[[File:Billiard chalk 20050724.png|100px]]</div> </div> </div>

I will give nobody credit, not even myself. I somehow figured yours out and changed it to my favorite emoji 🐀. But I like the idea of using an image and a Wikilink, so I'll mess around with that. Thank you! Eewilson (talk) 22:31, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Question from Limpkinswell on Computer security (01:11, 16 November 2021)

Hi, I just set up a new account and getting used to the setup of things. In doing a search for 'cybersecurity', I noticed a reference that should be pointing to a current live page and not an archived site. I'm not sure what the recommended way of editing this is and there is quite a lot of documentation to sort through. Can you possibly point me in the right direction? Thank you! --Limpkinswell (talk) 01:11, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Limpkinswell! Sorry to leave you hanging; usually if I don't have my Chromebook on me I answer on my phone, but I figured this question is answered best when I had the tools available to me (mobile editing is super limited in comparison). I believe I can help you with this, but first, can you tell me which reference is in question? The page has over 250, after all, so knowing the reference number or the title of the citation can help me walk you through the process better. I'll be here for you! Panini!🥪 13:24, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
