  1. Please do not add unhelpful and non-constructive information to Wikipedia, as you did to Bubba the Love Sponge. Your edits could be considered vandalism, and they have been reverted. This was actually me trying to settle a dispute over which Fan sites are involved. It was not in fact vandalsim, but rather removal of disputed information in order to try to reach a settlement, or to at least avoid vandalism. - See talk page. - (Optigan13 04:14, 24 February 2007 (UTC))
  2. Please stop. If you continue to violate WP:NPOV delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Bubba the Love Sponge, you will be blocked for vandalism. Stop trying to justify whether or not a Howard Stern site belongs here. It does not.The Stern Fan Network is already posted under Howard Stern where it belongs. It is under the correct topic of Howard Stern and does not belong here. Please do not spam on this section or the page or you will be removed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.177.164.244 (talk) 14:07, 24 February 2007 (UTC).
Leaving Bubba page and Bubba talk page alone for now, since IP users appear to own the article, wasn't trying to disrupt that article. I did not edit or delete any talk page comments aside from replacing mine which were blanked and added response and unsigned mark from ip user. Was not in any way trying to promote either site, but trying to squash fan site edit warring on wikipedia and seek clarification on which should be included. Stern and Bubba related Fan Sites appear to hate each other, and cause confusion and disruption on wikipedia. I'll just keep reverting on other pages on my watchlist and let the poorly worded line remain. User who cited me above comes from IP which appears to have replaced fan site's url on it's wiki entry to an obviously incorrect link, and whose only contributions so far appears to have been reverting the disputed text and links in question, blanking my talk page text, citing me, and either by accident or purpose, vandalising the fan site's wiki. So it is difficult to consider, but I am trying to assume that these are purely good faith corrections that just look bad from where I'm sitting. However if any editor can explain to me what the both sites are that are referred to on the disputed lines in question, or who Mutt is supposed to be by only reading that article I'd love to hear it. (Optigan13 22:53, 24 February 2007 (UTC))

April 2007

  1. Warning - DO NOT ADD to articles by blanking or DELETING massive sections that have already been well established and agreed upon. I have reverted your edits to the PRANK CALL article because all you did was add links to PCU radio while delting an entire section on the history of prank calls coming to the internet. If you feel PCU is pat of that history, fine, add to the section and SITE your references, but I can see from your page here that you either do not understand how to use wikipedia properly or you are purposely vandalizing or removing chunks of work in order to promote your own sites. This will not be tolerated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ManofThoth (talkcontribs) 12:13, 20 April 2007
Single purpose user who doesn't know how to read diffs warned me for removal of content did he introduced(See his contributions). See my edit, and the edit after that. RFC and stern show staff page

The linking to the directory is fine. Also, I like your idea about the The Howard Stern Show Staff page. Most of the staff isn't notable as individuals but as a group they are notable. While this isn't an opportunity to turn wikipedia into Stern-o-pedia, it would help consolidate all the fractured stern pages. And no, not discouraged from last time. The Stern-related pages are in much better shape now and I now have the extra tools to handle the trouble-makers :) Ocatecir Talk 06:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Why delete the section on plaigarism on Roy D. Mercer

It's common knowledge in parts of the Southeast that Roy D. Mercer got his schtick from a tape made by a fellow named John Bean that spread around the southeast. I thought this was the point of Wikipedia to be able to dissmeinate ACCURATE information. Bobbystone 20:17, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

If it is common knowledge in the southeast then someone should have written something about it in a newspaper or magazine, some kind of source that is considered reliable. Yes Wikipedia does strive to be accurate, but part of that accuracy is providing sources, so that people can verify that what you say is in fact accurate. The five pillars of wikipedia explain a lot of this, including the point of wikipedia. - Optigan13 20:45, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Breast cancer treatment, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://thebreastcancerinfo.com/breast_cancer_treatment.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 05:37, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome.

And thank you for the links. I didn't realize that I should leave a comment after edits. I'll be sure to do that in the future. Jezebelly 08:57, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

RE:Barnstar given with your signature

Ah yes, I did give an open barnstar to anyone who worked on the Evan Almighty article. I was impressed with the quality of Evan Almighty so I gave everyone who has worked on it a barnstar for their hard work. Although flicking through Onepiece226's edit history it looks like he has never worked on Evan Almighty, the cheeky sod really did just steal it. JayKeaton (talk) 09:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Please don't put {{talkheader}} onto every talk page you encounter. It is intended only for heated and/or controversial pages. Please click the link for further info and to verify this. You're actually a couple days late on that notice.[1] I spend too much time in talk space anyway. -Optigan13 (talk) 04:19, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. It looks like you accidentally reverted to a vandalized version of the page. If I'm mistaken please correct me. I've reverted your edits.--Urban Rose 03:08, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I reverted everything by the same IP user in the past day. If you'll notice the editor added quotes calling Vicious the bass "player"diff. The other changes actually appear to be okay with removing unsourced and trivial references, but I quickly reverted everything the user did. So go ahead and take another look at the changes and see if you want to keep anything, obviously you are paying close attention to that article. -Optigan13 (talk) 03:20, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Pacific Western University

I don't understand why you are "repairing" the link redirection for Pacific Western University. The link redirects to California Miramar; it is not broken. Some of these people may have degrees from the Hawaii version of the school, and changing the link to California Miramar University suggests that they definitely attended the California school. Keeping the link to PWU indicates some ambiguity. I have reverted some of your changes already. --Orlady (talk) 00:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I see what you are saying. But the confusing names being the case, I'm thinking that a disambiguation page, and a separate Pacific Western University (Hawaii) page would be needed, or at least a {{redirect}} header on California Miramar University. Unfortunately a lot of the people and links don't specify which institution. I'll finish the reversion where unclear. -Optigan13 (talk) 00:54, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

mitchell johnson edit

Hey dude how did you move the picture to the side ?im kinda new. would you think its over kill to add his side mugshot ? Sickero (talk) 07:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I added a generic {{Infobox Person}} to the page (See diff). Although you should definitely move the image to a much more descriptive title, mj is way too broad. You can probably take a look at serial killers and muderers pages to see what they did with the image. A more generic [[Image:mj.jpg|thumb|right]] would have also forced the right align. -Optigan13 (talk) 07:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

LOVE your username!

Just was doing some NPP and I noticed your having tagged a nonsense article; I did a lot of work on the Optigan article under my old username of "Lucky 6.9" and I still have the very Optigan my family got as a Christmas present in 1973! It's at my parent's former weekend home. Been there ever since it was new, so it was in good shape until it was slightly damaged when the room it was in flooded during a heavy rain thanks to a problem with the roof. My brother now owns the place and he has no use for it since he doesn't play. I am retrieving it at my earliest possible opportunity. I was just up there on Christmas day and yes, it still works! Thanks for the smile! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 07:38, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I've actually never even played one, just have it held over from when I was younger and a blur fan, See 13 (Blur album), track 13. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:53, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of The Wack Pack

An editor has nominated The Wack Pack, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Wack Pack and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:00, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what you're using to tag images with "now commons", and to leave misleading speedy deletion notices on the uploaders' web pages, but whatever it is, please don't. Tag them manually, only adding the image name if it is different. If you leave a note for the uploader, do not use a standard speedy deletion message. Any questions, please ask. Merge of inflammatory breast cancer

Hey, I noticed that there were merge tags on inflammatory breast cancer (proposing a merge into breast cancer), and I commented at Talk:Breast cancer#Proposed merger of inflammatory breast cancer. Afterwards, I noticed that a) you put the merge tags on about eight months ago, and b) you've since edited and improved the IBC article.

How do you feel about taking the tags off? It looks like there isn't a lot of interest in a merger. (I'm slightly aghast that nobody has paid attention to a maintenance tag on a high-traffic article like breast cancer for eight months, but that's another story....)

Cheers! TenOfAllTrades(talk) 01:32, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Nubie Help

Appreciate your responses Yday, and it has given me a starting point. The crux of my request is this: I've been reading on Wikipedia for quite some time, but I don't have the first idea what is going on behind Articles, behind the scenes, as it were. Is there a starting point for complete Nubies? I could just wade in and be guided by my hunches about how to work in this culture, but that is likely to lead to chaos. Very effective learning, but at a high cost to me and the other users that need to "educate" a nubie, yet again.

Is there a Tutotial, FAQ, Guide or the like that explains the really basic stuff, mostly non-technical stuff like etiquette and courtesy?

Again, thanks much for helping. Stephenlegh (talk) 13:26, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I noticed that edit you made and even I didn't remember at first. It is mixed in there in the general {{San Francisco}} nav template. It's the last listing in the government section. -Optigan13 (talk) 00:14, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Citation templating in San Francisco, California

Thanks for your ongoing work in helping to get consistent citation templating on the San Francisco article. Please note this diff by SandyGeorgia. I've fixed these errors throughout, but I thought I'd better call your attention to this so we don't work at cross purposes. I've worked tonight on cites up to #107. Thanks again --Sfmammamia (talk) 08:22, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah that was me, I personally like using institutional authors where no specific one is given, but oh well. I'm assuming there is some logic behind why we don't on wiki. I've finished the first pass the citations, but I wouldn't kid myself thinking that the citations are done, and still need a thorough check. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:01, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Follow the concerns raised by Parsecboy on the article talk page([5]); stop the personal attacks towards Nick Dowling and apologize to him; and talk to the multiple other editors on the article talk page about content (and not the individuals) in a concise and direct manner. -Optigan13 (talk) 03:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
As one of these other multiple editors looking at this issue (I have the page on my watchlist following an alert provided by a request to the Mediation Committee) I think everyone needs to take a step back for a moment. Reverting talk page discussion is controversial at best, and should only really be done if there has been libellous or seriously damaging information presented on talk. Requesting an apology, if you perceive a personal attack directed against you, is the best course of action. If it's not directed against you then your best bet is to wait for the target of the attack to request an apology. ColdmachineTalk 07:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Request for mediation

Optigan13 -- I have filed a request for mediation at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Hyūga class helicopter destroyer. I identified you amongst the relevant parties:

Involved parties

  1. Tenmei (talk · contribs), filing party
  2. BillCJ (talk · contribs)
  3. Nick Dowling (talk · contribs)

Assent from the following need not be a factor in the decision to accept this dispute for mediation; but perhaps these contributors might consider themselves as parties because of their participation in creating the talk page record.

  1. Buckshot06 (talk · contribs)
  2. Parsecboy (talk · contribs)
  3. Bellhalla (talk · contribs)
  4. Optigan13 (talk · contribs)
  5. Coldmachine (talk · contribs), mediator
  6. Sdsds (talk · contribs), mediator

The step-by-step instructions for filing a request for mediation did not explain that I needed to notify others;[6] but Nick Dowling's notice here implies that I have a responsibility to remedy that oversight without further delay.

At this point, Nick Dowling, Buckshot06 and Bellhalla have already agreed to mediation. It's up to you to decide what, if anything, you want to do. Even if you don't decide to participate, I hope you will watchlist the page so that you are able to follow what unfolds. --Tenmei (talk) 23:41, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Hyūga notification

"Disagree" -- that single word from BillCJ's doomed my request for mediation, but it need not be the last word.

I have re-submitted the request as the somewhat modified Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Hyūga class helicopter destroyer2 -- seeWikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Hyūga class helicopter destroyer2.

Changes include expressly incorporating Talk:Hyūga class helicopter destroyer along with Hyūga class helicopter destroyer. Also, the number of named parties is smaller. Another potentially helpful improvement -- first on the list of issues to be mediated is:

  • 1. As per WP:LEAD, the article's introduction needs to be brought in line with the article's text and reflect the paragraph which was included after being endorsed by a unanimous consensus on the article's talk page which describes the fact that different reliable sources call these ships aircraft carriers, helicopter carriers, helicopter destroyers and destroyers (Tenmai has stated that he chose to sit out this discussion [7], and instead restarted it after consensus was reached).[8]
  • 1A. Issues of Framing -- identifying a problem and moving beyond it?

I'm much more concerned about getting this process started than I care about what or who comes first. I hope you join me in this concern.

I hope you will again assent to this request for mediation.

By sharing a copy of this notification with those who had not decided what to do about the first request for mediation, I am fulfilling my responsibilities as the filing party; and at the same time, I open a door to the possibility that one or more may yet decide to do more than watchlist this page. --Tenmei (talk) 18:26, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Oncological restatement

The following attempt to create a neutral restatement was unsuccessful at Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Hyūga class helicopter destroyer#Supplemental restatements. Perhaps for you, the effort might possibly resonate? --Tenmei (talk) 11:06, 3 August 2008 (UTC) Framing using medical terminology?

In oncology, the metastasis of cancer is conventionally described as insidious or "developing so gradually as to be well-established before becoming apparent." It is also well-known to be pernicious or "highly injurious or destructive." It is unfortunate that criticism of Wikipedia has not yet encompassed the oncological model, but it is arguably true that the metastasis of systemic bias, like cultural bias elsewhere, is insidious, pernicious and sometimes invasive.
The non-NPOV problems in Hyūga class helicopter destroyer have escaped even cursory examination thus far. An ameliorative edit was initiated, involving one sentence only, supported by an in-line citation with an external link to a credible source. The talk page record reveals that this precisely-targeted intervention was reverted twice without substantive discussion. The edit provoked intense resistance which blocked access to any perceived threshold from which to begin to address the unacknowledged bias which remains the article's pervasive flaw.
Talk page sequelae revealed underlying toxic peripheral wiki-pathologies which are become corollary subjects of this request for wiki-diagnostic and wiki-therapeutic interventions. --Tenmei (talk) 16:21, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Undid your change to Template:HPP

I undid your change to the {{HPP}} template as it broke every page that transcluded it. Specifically, it appears you deleted the |} on the table close, which included the </div> inside the userbox, and created a situation where all the text after the HPP userbox became PART of the userbox. At any rate, just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to try it again. -- ShinmaWa(talk) 02:27, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, your change appears to fix it with the transclusion onto the wikipedia space user page design center page which is the only issue at the moment. If I take another stab at it I'll check with someone more familiar with templates. -Optigan13 (talk) 02:36, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Salvia divinorum FAC

Sorry to bother you, but I found Salvia divinorum, which appears to have been nominated (WP:FAC/Salvia divinorum) but not transcluded by an editor who admits to having never edited the article (No, I don't see an award center type situation just an infrequent contributor who drive by tagged an article). Not sure how these are typically handled. The article's primary contributor appears to be User:SallyScot based on edit count. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:33, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for alerting me for this roll call. Yes I have noticed something new as I had bumped into the cleanup list and worked on the "in-text citation needed" section of the list. If I were an admin I'd probably block him. He's not doing anything especially awful, but he is being mildly disruptive and annoying several users as he empties their personal sandboxes, changes redirects, and several other confusing actions, and when ask doesn't explain it to anyone. So hopefully a block would force them to communicate with someone, even if it is just a whoops, my bad type of statement. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:47, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Your peer review of Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California

Thanks for taking the time to look at and review this article: Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California. I see you rated this article to "match" another rating from Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area. Are you aware that this article received that rating in February 2008, and that the article has undergone extensive editing and development since that time? Do you have any constructive criticism of the article that could help me to develop it into a Good Article candidate? lol I didn't spot your message there until I looked in your contribs.:) To his credit he managed to use Twinkle reasonably well for a while I think. Then someone recommended he used huggle because they thought it was faster. I would just have stopped using the tools if I were him, after he was blocked. He did, but only for a few days. But then, I've never used them:) Sticky Parkin 23:35, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I've used them in the past and seeing as I've EC'd bots I don't see the point, and liken it to manually cleaning spam from your e-mail, you'd be doing a job a computer can do, and in fact you'd be getting in the way. Oh well, I'm not in favor of dragging him to ANI either if he doesn't really get what's going on because that is punishment with no intent for a behavior change, and there's no fire to put out. I'm not sure what he expected from the re-nom, but I'm worried he's trying to get a featured star on his favorite team and not necessarily making sure he has a well written article about them. Your translation request for Template:Welcomeen-es

You asked whether you were using the translation requests page correctly with your request. Actually, that page is for requesting a translation in English of an article found in a foreign-language Wikipedia. Your request is for a cleanup of a text in Spanish, so the best place to make the request is on the template's talk page. Since there is apparently no page on the Spanish Wikipedia that is equivalent to WP:TRANSLATION, I cannot help you to find help in the Spanish Wikipedian community. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 02:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I guess my confusion was what is the best way to recruit skilled Spanish writers who could accurately translate the English text. Translation isn't entirely correct but no forum really is setup to handle requests like this. I'm thinking I'll have to personally shop this to someone in Category:User es. Optigan13 (talk) 05:24, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello Optigan 13, regarding the article suggestion on Whiskey Painters, an article was published in 2003 by me on the society in Akron Life and Leisure magazine and its details cited to me in the article by the last living founding member plus it is profiled on the web. Timeline of AIDS

At Timeline of AIDS you left an edit summ: (→1980s: rm drug usage reference, they were using poppers per source but weren't necessarily IDUs) and the diff shows you changed "five gay male drug users" to "five gay men".

The original version is not saying "IDUs". Its saying "drug users" - what am I missing here? SmithBlue (talk) 16:03, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

The line in the original MMWR report said at the 7th paragraph down where it describes common factors "All 5 reported using inhalant drugs, and 1 reported parenteral drug abuse." I take that to mean all of them used poppers (inhalants), which in the end turned out to be the wrong possible cause. Since it ended up not being responsible for AIDS, I didn't try to explain that in the line and just kept it simple. -Optigan13 (talk) 18:55, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
  • You are saying that now we know that it is IDU that is a risk factor? And that as that these men were not IDUs then it is overly complicating to mention their nonIDU recreational drug use? Given that the article is a timeline - presenting the ideas/theories current at a point on the timeline does seem relevant and notable. Perhaps you are right and that a mention in passing like this is not an effective way to present this information. SmithBlue (talk) 01:40, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes now we know that Injection Drug Use is a risk factor for HIV transmission, but using poppers isn't. Saying drug users without qualifying what drugs the men were using is too open to the readers interpretation. Something like "five gay men, who all used inhalants ..." may work, but that makes me want to follow up with more detail in that line about poppers. I'm not sure if the average reader needs to read about poppers there or later. That poppers were an early suspect is covered in the 1982, June 18 MMWR line further down which goes into more detail about how poppers were suspected as having been related, and it's probably important to cover all the possible causes that were explored and reported on in the early years to give a picture of all the panic around AIDS in the early years, just not in that line. -Optigan13 (talk) 03:29, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Need help with new navboxes

Hello! I think I've in over my head here, re: the large template Protected Areas of Caifornia- I have successfully split into two separate navboxes and they are sitting quietly in my sandbox (see California Wikiproject talk page post titled Ca Template...needs work for link). Stepheng3 is trying to help but I'm confused by his response. It would seem to me that I should just make a new page in Template namespace for each navbox and they would show up in the proper order under "Templates". I am not trying to replace the original, or should I? The original is about 50k in size. Hope this works out okay, sincerely, Marcia Marcia Wright (talk) 05:37, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it depends on how you are going to use it. If you're going to split the template fully and replace all uses of the original template, then you could do either way that he's suggesting. The only difference is whether or not to move one of the templates to the usage, and replace all transclusions (use the what links here from the initial page, you may want to look into Auto Wiki Browser if there's several. In order for the templates to show up in the right category you need to add the categories for the template into the no include section. Take a look at Template:Breast cancer for a really basic nav template I did with the documentation sub page.
Basically it's
  1. Move Template:Protected Areas of California to Template:State-protected wildlife areas of California
  2. Replace the contents of that template with the sandboxed version you've been working on.
  3. Create the new one at something like Template:Federally-protected wildlife areas of California, whatever seems appropriate.
Create a documentation template at Template:Federally-protected wildlife areas of California/doc and include the relevant category there. See Template:Breast cancer/doc for a basic one.
If you're unsure if you've used the no include tag correctly, you may want to try using the {{helpme}} template and someone will usually be there relatively quickly if you want someone to make sure everything checks out so far.
  4. Replace all uses of {{Protected Areas of California}} (using what links here (Transclusion)), with whichever new nav template is appropriate.

Sorry I'm not feeling horribly helpful, but I'm currently a little burned out on Wikipedia and I'm taking it easy, so sorry if I'm a little out of it right now, or if I'm a bit slow in my responses. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:34, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your time, and I'm sorry to have bothered you with this-I must admit I am envious of the "burned out" as I am in full-tilt mode and am not doing the healthy things I should, like hiking the trails at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park for example. California task forces

Hi Optigan13,

I just wanted to make sure you were aware of WPMED's task-force conversion checklist, since it might save you a little trouble reinventing the wheel with your WPCAL project. Also, if you find anything missing from our list, please feel free to update!

I've looked over your notes (from your WP:COUNCIL posting), and my only concern is that you may be moving too quickly. Semi-active "owners" of inactive projects sometimes pitch a fit when they come back after a while and discover that their useless project has been "taken over" or otherwise changed. Since there's no deadline, I'd probably wait at least a month after giving notice before converting non-responsive projects. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:14, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I was thinking of waiting a while longer on the UC and SB projects, especially since it schools are going to be just approaching, or in the middle of their finals. Then I have to go back through and do a lot of the cleanup to the project pages. -Optigan13 (talk) 16:31, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

No, thank you for all your hard work. Keep listening to Moni3's advice, she knows her FAs/GAs. You might want to look in Commons:Category:San Francisco City Hall for several images of the place, there are some images of the building at night, and some from up high showing the top of the building and street you might want to switch out for to give readers a better illustration. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Of course, I value her advice. I do love writing, and LGBT studies is something that I know, so its a perfect match. WPCF.svg

Why are you placing the image WPCF.svg on links to Portal:California? What connection does the red star have to the State of California? Are you plotting to take over the state? Curious, Buaidh (talk) 21:57, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

It appears to be the standard for links to that portal going back to 2007 (Portal talk:California#Tagging articles). I prefer that variation on our state flag rather than a blue png image of the state myself. Between the bear with red star and the state flag, it is much easier for me to see the bear with a little red star behind him than to see the whole flag shrunk down. Feel free to bring it up on Portal talk:California if you're looking for some consensus between the two. It's not that major of a difference to me. Are you just trying to go for some consistency for all the state portals? As for the significance of the red star, see Flag of California#History. -Optigan13 (talk) 22:31, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

California related Wikiprojects

It seems to me that all the California related Wikiprojects (outside of the top-level WP:CAL) are inactive. If this is the case, why not just make them all task forces of WP:CAL? I just had a look at each of them the other night and noticed most have the inactive tag, with the exception of the SF Bay Area project (but they aren't necessarily active either), and that two of them are now task forces. Anyways, just an idea to throw out.

I initially looked because I came up with the idea of creating a "Centralized discussion" template for all the California-related Wikiproject, but none of them are active :-/ Killiondude (talk) 20:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I was looking at SFBA and LA for possible merges too, but there's a few issues. SoCal and Santa Barbara were categorizing items into WP CAL anyway, SFBA and LA are not. There used to be separate SF and SF Bay Area projects which were merged a few years back, and I think LA and SoCal should similarly be merged. But with both SFBA and LA I'm trying to think about how that would change participation, actual article building, and assistance. With Cal Delta and Cal Schools, they never really started and I think a merge would be non-controversial. -Optigan13 (talk) 22:13, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Edits regarding cold and humidity on San Francisco's article

That edit was not to express a particularly point of view. Its goal was to improve the text flow. Once you find that request form go ahead and put it up on the cal page (I think it requires a discussion first) and I'll support it. Don't let me hold you back from posting this kind of stuff to Cal, it's your project as much as mine. Some other cool ones are development is the Igor project tool and the New Pages listing. Now I have to go eat, and then review somebody's contribs to post my 2¢ to their RFA. My first complaint, no WP:CAL userbox :P. -Optigan13 (talk) 02:34, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Wikiproject California

Thanks for the welcome template. I have been adding Wikiproject California Templates to relevant articles that lacked it since I joined Wikipedia as a non ananomous editor at the beginning of 2009. Presently I am going through the Articles by Quality pages and started assessing and taging articles as needed. I look forward to contributing more. Feel free to take a look at the articles that I started if you are interested ^_^ --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 05:32, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I do not mean to put undue pressure on you to take responsibility for burdensome changes. Feel free to contribute your time to the article. At some point I have to make a decision and without citation up to current standards the article will fail. I realize that chasing down citations for a whole bunch of other contributors can be onerous. My intent is to give you every chance to do it if you intend to, but I am not attempting to force you to undertake such responsibility. It is just that once delisted, it will have an even higher bar than the one I set to pass at the current GAC. Also, people get mad when you delist their articles without giving them a fair chance to uphold the article.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 05:32, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Ranchos of California

I saw that one of the very many things you did this week were fixes to Ranchos of California. The Mexican Era table is out dated (and contains several errors) - the real table is at List of Ranchos of California (which you also made fixes). I previously removed the Mexican Era table but perhaps too hastily for some, and it got replaced. My reading is that the consensus (of a small number of commentors) is in favor of the list on a separate page. I plan to remove the Mexican Era table soon.--Emargie (talk) 00:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks For The Welcome Optigan13

I don't know how many times over the years I have used Wiki to learn or do research on things. It is an invaluable resource, and a labor of love for countless people. As I was looking at all these pages I noticed many facts or references not updated, incorrect, or not there at all (including information relevant to many things I'm interested in). The other thing I noticed (being an English/Journalism major), was people's inability to properly write using the English language. I don't want to sound like an expert, because I am quite the opposite when it comes to Wiki. I know very little HTML and/or other tools available to the Wiki community at large. Just like donating to PBS (which I rarely do), I feel I can make my small contributions to Wikipedia. When I see the time it takes though and the amount of time people have invested, it's definately humbling. Anyway I'm sorry to use your talk page as a forum for my rantings :), but thanks again for the welcome. -John Jcheckler (talk) 09:38, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, if you look on the GA review page for the article, Happyme22 recommends you pass the article. That's how it works on a second opinion under these circumstances, you still make the decision. Thanks!--Wehwalt (talk) 20:20, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

California Universities

Hi there Optigan13. Since you seem to be the most active member over at the California WikiProject, I was hoping you could take a look at my comments with respect to classification of California Universities. I think they may have been overlooked because they're buried a bit in the middle of the "Updating importance scale criteria" section. Thanks.--mcd51 (talk) 03:16, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

I've responded over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject California/Assessment/Archive 2#arbitrary break-top. I think because that discussion is so big, and we had moved on from those top ranking discussions it was missed. It actually is on a whole separate page because by the time its over it will be pretty big, and it is something specific to assessment. But since I doubted that page is heavily watched I transcluded it, which is a bit unusual to the discussion but as you'll notice with peer review, GA, and other processes it sometimes is done for big discussions. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:17, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for welcoming me to WikiProject California. I'm looking forward to being part of it, even though I now live in New Jersey (I was born in California and lived there until 1999). NHRHS2010 |  Talk to me  10:25, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Another California/Railroad-related category

I know you've been eager to move California-related images to the commons, so I though I'd introduce you to the new category I created; Caltrain station images. I have a feeling you're going to like this one. ----DanTD (talk) 03:55, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Actually I was just interested in clearing out the existing material in Images of California, and then hopefully just moving as new material comes in. I'm not really trying to clear all of Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons, at least not right away, just clean up Category:California. But I can take care of those images. -Optigan13 (talk) 04:12, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, you should also know that I've created two more new categories for Santa Clara VTA Light Rail and BART stations, and related images to those lines. I've even submitted some of them to the commons myself. ----DanTD (talk) 17:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

LA Times photos from UCLA archives with expired copyright

You'll recall the discussion of this group of photos that I uploaded some time ago, which is still open: [25].

I noticed today that a couple of the images from this group have already been deleted: [26]

I think we should wait before deleting any more of these, for the above discussion to close. At present, there appears to be a plurality to retain the photos as PD-expired. Do we need to ask an uninvolved admin to close it? Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 18:29, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

I left a note at the Admin Noticeboard, something resembling closure on this one would be great. If it comes out a keep I'll see if we can restore that Selig Zoo file. -Optigan13 (talk) 21:40, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
As you probably saw, it did come out as "keep". I'd appreciate it if you could restore File:Selig Zoo Archway.jpg & File:StmShovelLA33.jpg, which got lost in the shuffle. Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 04:04, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
I've placed {{ImageUndeleteRequest}} on the pages with a link to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2009 September 15#File:HollenbeckBH.jpg, hopefully an admin will come along and restore those shortly. I'll go through and place all the images in a tracking category with {{KeepLocal}} on them to organize the images. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:38, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Tdeprecated

I saw you removed the noinclude tags from Template:SFBAProject. I undid this edit. The reason is that correct procedure is first eliminate all (or close to all) instances of the deprecated template, then remove the noinclude tags. At present, this template is still used on appr. 440 pages, which is far from the stage where the noinclude tag can be removed. Debresser (talk) 11:39, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

I noticed that after I removed them. I had assumed the bot got them months ago, but I guess not. See User talk:AnomieBOT/Archive 2#Status of WikiProject tagging requests for what happened, the bot managed to take out the remaining ones now. I've re-removed the tags. -Optigan13 (talk) 19:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

File:UA Turbo Train.jpg

Are you still willing to add File:UA Turbo Train.jpg to the commons? If so, then besides the category for Union Station, I recommend the "Gas turbine-powered locomotives" category. ----DanTD (talk) 23:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Commons only accepts free stuff. That one's a non-free (fair use) one so it's not eligible. I'm not sure what if any categories are done for the non-free images. -Optigan13 (talk) 21:53, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

LA Portal

Hey I don't know if you saw, but there's now a Portal:Los Angeles. It was just created within the last week or two and it's coming along nicely (not that I've edited it, but just from initial observations). Anyways, just wanted to drop you a line to spread the word about it. Killiondude (talk) 09:02, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I saw it when they posted the link up in Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Los Angeles task force/right panel as well as standardizing the layout of the task forces in a lot of left panels. I was hoping to whip up a so cal or la specific welcome message, but someone beat me to the punch with a general welcome. There's still time for an {{subst:Cal Invitation/la}}, but I was going to leave a note about that for somebody else to do the invite once I got around to updating the welcome templates. Although it did spark my usual worry about whether they'll hang around once they've done this portal to maintain it. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:36, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah i get it now. Thanks. Okay so just add the counties to the category then. SoCal L.A. (talk) 04:49, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
I noticed all the cities were removed and the counties replaced them. I think it would be beneficial to have both counties and cities on that page since some southern california cities are in counties not part of SoCal i.e. Santa Barbara. So if you don't mind i am going to add some cities to the list. SoCal L.A. (talk) 23:07, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh and i also noticed that some county categories were empty so that doesn't help either. It really can't do any harm having the cities pages in the category either. The SFBA and IE categories display them like that so i don't think it matters. If anything it helps. I think thats all. Thanks for your help btw. SoCal L.A. (talk) 23:18, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you changed the Project to inactive. It's been less than one month since I changed the tag from inactive to semi-acitve. In that time I've been working on tagging articles, putting up notices for members and improving the page layouts for the Project and assessment pages. If you don't mind, I'm going to roll back your edit to semi-active. Shinerunner (talk) 22:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

No problem, I'm just working my way through Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Geographical/Americas trying to get a good sense of how many projects are active. Because of the size of that and the other parts of the directory I'm moving at a pretty quick pace through them. Thanks for noticing so quick and correcting me. Having to tag projects as inactive but neither is giving editors the impression that they could get some assistance at a project, only to have no response. -Optigan13 (talk) 22:19, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I added a date to the semi-active tag so that there's a better gauge for your Project members. Shinerunner (talk) 22:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

South Carolina Project

I noticed the tag on you put on the South Carolina Project. I have posted the some comments on the talk page regarding the same thing. It looks like there hasn't been any activity in the Project Article for a few months. I have even posted questions on other projects to find out how to get in touch with the coordinators. I would be willing to get the project running again but I admit I am not the most skilled person with formatting and Wiki Markup. There are some people occasionally editing the articles that I have in my watchlist but nothing is happening in the Project Pages. Would you be willing to help me or point me to someone for help? I have a few ideas, mainly ranking and assessing some of the the articles that are un-assessed in the importance and quality scales.Marine79 (talk) 08:21, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I can try to help. If you haven't already you might want to check out the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council which has a lot of information regarding WikiProjects as well as several other people who do a lot of project work. You can ask on that talk page or here and I'll try to help out. If you want you can also change the tag from inactive to {{semi-active}} or remove it altogether if you want. Do you have any particular questions right now? -Optigan13 (talk) 08:29, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
It might have been the wrong place but I posted here.. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council/Assessment working group ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Council/Assessment_working_group ) on 31 January and got no response so far. I guess at first i wanted to get a consensus on where the population split should be for small cities and large cities, so I could get the individual cities articles tagged for the importance scale that is on the project page. Marine79 (talk) 08:41, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Ahh, sorry about that, try Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council. It looks like that assessment workgroup has gone inactive itself. In terms of gauging importance, you could try something along the lines of splitting it by population, I just made some ballpark estimates and found a census estimate to see what the breakdown of cities were and proposed an outline at WikiProject California, although it was just me posting that up before I went with a bot assessment. -Optigan13 (talk) 08:54, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council. I've got a census report for SC with city populations so I will know what cities make it above the line if I can get a consensus from people.Marine79 (talk) 09:10, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

NJ Education task force

Hi Optigan13. I reverted your addition of the ianctive template to Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Education. While I agree wth what you are doing in cleaning up the listings at WkiProject Council, I don't think you should be tagging task forces of active projects. This task force was converted from an independent WP, and was still listed that way in the projects directory because I could never quite figure out how to change its listing in the tables. I don't know if you got there from a redirect from the old project, or directly to the task force, but a note on the main WPNJ talk page might have been a better way to go with a task force. Thanks for the work on the cleanup! Jim Miller See me | Touch me 19:41, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the revert. I'm kind of relying on project members to correct me on the tags. Personally I've been leaving inactive/semi-active tags on the California task forces so that new editors don't ask a question on a project tag only for no response, which is why I've been somewhat aggressive in tagging, but I'll defer to the project members on whether they want to revert that, which both you, US Roads and a few others have done. Either way inactivity doesn't show on project listings themselves, but simply as a notice to interested people that posts to the talk page might go unresponded to. I'm almost done going through the Americas, with only South America left to check for inactivity. After I'm done making that pass I'll wait a few days to leave some time for people to revert me, and then begin updating the listings. If you want I can leave a note on yours or the NJ project talk page once I've updated the listing for you to review it. -Optigan13 (talk) 21:13, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

El Centro metropolitan area

Hi mentor, I wanted to ask you if I should put Talk:El Centro metropolitan area#Necessity of article on RfC. Thanks! House1090 (talk) 23:53, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

I would go for an WP:AFD since both you and Alanraywiki are saying delete and redirect the thing, and an RFC would just address the same issues an AFD would, but the AFD explicitly expects those outcomes (Keep,Merge,Delete,Redirect). Just don't be surprised if you have poorly sourced Metro statistical area articles that get put up for deletion. If there's similar ones out there hold off and don't nominate them all at once and just see how the first one goes. From my looking at things I don't see anything that wouldn't be better off as merged into the Imperial County article. From what I can tell El Centro is just the OMB designation for Imperial County so people don't confuse MSAs with Counties, since they aren't necessarily the same. But looking at the 2000 population estimates the El Centro MSA - Table 1a and Imperial County are the same value (142,361). Also looking at a couple US Census maps for both the state and the nation. -Optigan13 (talk) 03:45, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay I already did, had some problems but I fixed them. Thanks. House1090 (talk) 04:44, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
It is the second time I nominate it. ast time the tag was removed by SoCal LA. House1090 (talk) 04:48, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Proposed deletions aren't considered a first nomination, that 1st, 2nd, etc only refers to AFDs. -Optigan13 (talk) 04:53, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Ohh, okay then. Well at least you know why I chose 2nd nomination. House1090 (talk) 04:55, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Well from what I can see at User:Parker1297/sandbox/nasa and User:Parker1297/Sandbox/Wikipedia:WikiProject NASA you appear to have
While you also have an Assessment page it isn't needed as a bot will update the listings, and you shouldn't have to create that page. Did I see everything you have so far? Also have you had a chance to read Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide? -Optigan13 (talk) 06:36, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

I performed two reverts on the El Salvador page. I forgot about my 1RR, I had planed to revert all the non-cited work by a user but instead only reverted one part/piece, so I then tried a second time and it worked but I forgot about my 1RR. Sorry about that. House1090 (talk) 06:26, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

That's ok since it a deeper revert with no gap in between. Just be careful with semi-automated tools like twinkle and friendly since if things go bad, they've been done quickly and sometimes on a much larger scale. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:11, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

SoCal L.A.'s reverts

User:SoCal L.A. reverts me all the time, but he moved a template: Template:Inland Empire. He moved it without seeing what I or other users think. He changed it to Template:Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area from what I read in Wikipedia:Move and Wikipedia:Article titles a template or article should use the common name, in this case Inland Empire metropolitan area (since its about the metro). I did not revert the move but, I did warn him (SoCal L.A.) about page moves. I don't know if I should revert him, report him, or what. I was hoping you could give me advise on what to do, or help me out. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 05:44, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm thinking a move request for going back to the name you prefer would help establish a clearer consensus on the wording one way or the other. But are you trying to get a broader consensus on naming for all Category:Southern California metropolitan area templates or just on this one template? -Optigan13 (talk) 06:06, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
No, on just the Inland Empire one. House1090 (talk) 06:25, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok, just making sure since I'm seeing a lot of similar talk page discussions. I'm sure it's a little annoying to have an article at the meta:The Wrong Version while you wait for the outcome of the move. Do you have any other questions or concerns right now? -Optigan13 (talk) 06:45, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the intrusion, but i was simply using House's own logic on the move. I hope you, Optigan, would take a look at the talk page. Also i did have peoples opinions on the matter but not the move, that was my mistake. I would also just like to establish it isn't the meta:The Wrong Version. If we went by the naming standards for this template the LA metro template would be named, Template:Southland metropolitan area. Again sorry for the intrusion, just my two cents. SoCal L.A. (talk) 23:39, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Ugh, I'm seeing SoCal LA every where (sorry, but I am tired of having to clean up after him and getting no where with this guy). Yes its very annoying, I'm going ask for a Move Request as soon as possible, and only he and one user (I'm not even sure if that one user agreed), if I'm not wrong he should of put it in the talk page. So what you think if I reported User:SoCal L.A. ? I have not done it because he's assuming good faith but, I am tired of trying to talk to him and have him assuming ownership of articles. He's a good guy but he must be warn and some one needs to let him know of the rules. House1090 (talk) 00:22, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
In defense of myself, you don't clean up after me, only a couple of times on the Los Angeles metropolitan area page. I don't assume ownership of articles and don't like when people, as you so did, accuse me of things i didn't do for intentions that you assume, in a twisted way, to be mine. I know the rules on Wikipedia. Also we're human, everyone makes mistakes (as i did by assuming you would be okay with the move to it's correct name), even you. I am leaving now since this discussion with House's problem with my correcting and editing in general is between Optigan13, his mentor, and House1090. SoCal L.A. (talk) 00:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Look, you don't know your assuming ownership but, others (me) do. It's like (example) when you think you run fast because you ran the mile in 40 mins, when a couch knows your slow because the average is 20 mins. I hope you see it now. House1090 (talk) 00:46, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Ohh i hate so much to respond here, but i don't no where else to. Well how am i assuming ownership if i don't know i am? I can't, it's impossible. However is it not possible that you can assume i assume ownership? After all neither of us work in person so we can't judge things based on body language, tones of voice etc. Only assume. Could i not assume you assume ownership of Inland Empire articles? I don't but if i did, you know your not assuming ownership right? Or do you ;)? By the way, i ran the mile in 6:40 :). No joke. Though it still wasn't as fast as the people who broke six. SoCal L.A. (talk) 01:20, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

My point is try to be neutral, both of us should. And I want to apologize to Optigan13 for using his talk page, Sorry, and please respond to my question above. Thanks. House1090 (talk) 02:00, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Response

  • It's okay to use my talk page, these things happen.
  • SoCal L.A., the wrong version doesn't refer to any specific version in this dispute, simply that when there is an argument and an admin reverts and protects an article, it will inevitably be the wrong version for one side.
  • House1090, when you say cleanup his mistakes, is there any particular page you are referring to, or the same Template:Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area we've been looking at?
  • I'm not seeing anything in either of your two contributions where a report (to AN/I I assume) or a block would help at the moment.
  • A general recommendation I would give both of you is remember to take a step back on these disputes to give others some time to respond to the issues.
  • Right now we're primary looking at Template:Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area, as well as Talk:Greater Los Angeles Area#Page move?, and the El Centro TFD.

Did I cover everything, and does that answer your questions at this point? -Optigan13 (talk) 04:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes and when I mean cleaning up I also mean the Los Angeles metropolitan area, as he did copy and past. House1090 (talk) 05:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Did he copy and paste from one article into that one? It doesn't appear to be copy-paste move. Diffs would help here. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:28, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Evidence shown below::::::Different versions are here:

—Preceding unsigned comment added by House1090 (talkcontribs) 22:15, February 11, 2010

Okay, while that is an issue, it's probably best to set that specific edit aside aside for now and continue to work on this as part of Talk:Greater Los Angeles Area#Page move? and how those two articles relate to each other. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:37, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you left a tag on our WikiProject about being not active, and in reality I would have to agree with you. For the most part, I have been contributing to this project adding related/requested articles, assessing class and importance for talk templates, categorizing, and adding sources, infoboxes and templates to many of the articles it covers, but I don't see any activity in the Portal or Project from anyone else. I did wonder whether there were any members active anymore, and now that you have placed that tag it makes me more suspicious. I don't touch the portal or main wikiproject page because I thought there was some kind of bureaucracy or administratorship that I wasn't aware of that I would have to respect, and since I'm not an admin or in communication with any administrators I didn't know what I could do if anything.

Is there anything you would recommend about getting WikiProject Colombia active again? or any advice on how to go about improving or solving that situation? thanks mijotoba (talk) 07:54, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Well you could change the tag to {{semi-active}} if you want. There have been a couple of recent posts about inactive wikiprojects with suggestions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#No Activity in the South Carolina Project and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Inactive Wikiprojects. Pretty much what I said in that first post applies to any project. -Optigan13 (talk) 08:04, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Hello! I feel I'm in much the same boat as Mijotoba in regards to Chile, as I'm doing the same thing for its project as he is for Colombia. I do however see a couple other active and semi-active editors for Chile, so I'll change the tag to semi-active and see if I can encourage those semis to come back and help out. Also, Poland has divided its participants list into activity brackets, so that might be a worthwhile endeavor for him and me both. Ruodyssey (talk) 08:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I've just updated the South America directory and kept Chile tagged as active, feel free to update or correct anything you see there. For Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Participants I just split it into active/inactive. When I did that I just moved everyone to inactive, and sent a roll call message asking everyone to update their status. Let me know how it goes and good luck. -Optigan13 (talk) 08:49, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Your "adopted" user, House1090

Hello, sorry to bother you but i was just wondering if House is still bound by a 1 revert rule on California related articles. Also he has developed a trend of adding citation need tags to commonly referred to names of regions, i.e. the one on the San Diego metropolitan area article. Which are seemingly obvious names for the region. Just a few questions, thats all.

Oh by the way i forgot to thank you for redirecting all the talk pages on the Imperial Valley portal, thanks again for that! SoCal L.A. (talk) 01:57, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

I can answer, yes, and I reverted you once. You need to add sources. House1090 (talk) 02:24, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes, see Wikipedia:Editing restrictions#Placed by the Wikipedia community for the 1RR wording. Are we talking about Southern Border? I am reading that as two reverts initial addition, 1st revert, 2nd revert so a block would have been in order, but it's stale at this point. I'd also note that not having an edit summary is not a reason to revert. In the future you could take this to the talk page and start discussing the content there and leave me a talkback or some other note to have a look. Sorry for the delay. -Optigan13 (talk) 23:05, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your response Optigan, even if it was delayed :). SoCal L.A. (talk) 03:42, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

User:Amerique

He has violated his 1RR agreement, and has failed to use the talk page on the San Bernardino Valley article. House1090 (talk) 01:55, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I've responded over at that articles talk page. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
He still violated his 1RR. When I do something I get in trouble for it but if he does it nothing happens, take a look at his talk page history, it clearly shows how he is taking advantage of my 1RR, and he ignores his. Thanks House1090 (talk) 23:29, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
At this point he is not covered by any formal 1RR. As both of you were on a voluntary agreement to stick to one revert, if he decides to go over it there's nothing I can point to aside from a broken promise. But at the ANI discussion it seemed like others were ready to block you and move on, and I felt it was worth trying the editing restricions to allow you to continue, where that has a formal backing to it, but isn't outright blocking. Now I started the discussion at Talk:San Bernardino Valley#Census map where two other people have responded to you, as well as Talk:List of metropolitan areas by population#Los Angeles definition and footnote (which is fully protected until a consensus can be reached), please work via those two talk pages for those articles. But I don't think focusing on Amerique in this dispute is helpful, as at the same time as I see arguments between you and him, I see them with you and SoCal L.A., you and Polaron. If it's not Amerique, it will be another user. It's more important that you work on your abilities with editing, finding and providing reliable sources, and working via talk pages, so that you can apply these skills to any article and any people you encounter. -Optigan13 (talk) 00:24, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Not so much SoCal and Polaron, but more with Amerique. I have and will continue to use the talk pages, but what I have learned is that never trust Amerique. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 00:30, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

If you have not noticed, take a look here:[29]. It might be some what interesting (It looks like Amerique has some growing up to do). House1090 (talk)

I have a favor to ask.

I saw you made or at least uploaded this map, File:California county map (Inland Empire highlighted).svg. I was wondering if you could make a similar one of the Southern Border, highlighting San Diego and Imperial Counties. I would very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance. SoCal L.A. (talk) 01:18, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I made one based on the Cal Econ strategy panel definition, coloring all of the regions as defined there. Let me know if you want something simpler with Imperial and San Diego colored with the rest gray, but I felt this provided better context to a reader on how the Southern Border relates to the rest of the state's regions. Looking at that article, can you cut back on the number of images, it's a bit overwhelming (See Wikipedia:Layout#Images). Also some of the images don't relate to the section they're in such as Chula Vista shopping center and Oceanside City Hall in Transportation (See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Images). I think it will help you develop the article if you use WP:Citation templates to clear up your sources, especially access date as that helps if the website goes dead or gets modified. -Optigan13 (talk) 10:29, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Optigan, you may want to monitor Template talk:Western United States just to make sure it stays neutral without a San Bernardino-centric bias by House. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 21:43, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

A similar problem may be developing at article section Western United States#Major Population Centers. SoCal L.A. (talk) 03:08, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
I'm not the one that violated the 3RR. House1090 (talk) 03:21, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Responded over at the nav template, will follow up on there and the article as we go forward. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

CSU Channel Islands Class

Optigan13, First thanks for all the work you do keeping "California" in order. Yes - alls quiet on the "class project". I looked at the wiki page for school projects you mentioned - and from my quick reading, it seemed to encourage class exercises - which I don't think is useful, unless they use the sandbox. So I didn't know what to say to the professor. Some of the photos already have 'delete' tags on them. I am going to make an effort to go back and clean these articles - although there may not be much left. I still am not sure what to do "next time" - perhaps just remove poor material as it goes up.Emargie (talk) 05:28, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

No problem, thanks for all the work you do on the Mission articles. If this is just a one-off deal I'm not sure it's worth following up on at the moment, since at this point it isn't much different from hundreds of other new contributors who make articles with a host of issues. Next time for this or another class we'll just point the students to that page, and hope they bring it up with their professor. If the professors decide not to follow up on this kind of assignment next semester it's more work than it's worth at the moment, and should treat these as we would any other article with issues at this point. -Optigan13 (talk) 08:00, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Good advice. Thanks Emargie (talk) 17:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Walker Creek (California)

Venezuela tagging

Hi, thanks for your input at WT:VEN. Since you seem to know about bots, I don't suppose you could look at my failed attempt to get User:AlexNewArtBot to add new articles into Wikipedia:WikiProject Venezuela/new articles? Rd232 talk 12:43, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Well there are a few in User:AlexNewArtBot/VenezuelaSearchResult but there are probably some terms that could use adding. Is there any real need for the new articles sub-page? -Optigan13 (talk) 23:22, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Well not really I guess; it just seemed neater. But we can just link to that search result page instead (I didn't know about it). Do you have any suggestions for extra terms? Rd232 talk 23:29, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
OK, I see now you transcluded, which works fine. If you do have any term suggestions (based on experience elsewhere perhaps) that would be helpful. Rd232 talk 23:38, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
I added a few terms to the search rules (User:AlexNewArtBot/Venezuela), but stopped short of adding the various States of Venezuela and Regions of Venezuela. I'm not sure I can be that much help on this one since I'm not great with regular expressions and the various User:AlexNewArtBot#California entries were all set up a while back. Either way there is more on those results than any can keep an eye on. I just look through it when I can to check for people who are already working on the material to shoot a project invite to. -Optigan13 (talk) 23:51, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Rd232 talk 23:58, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Updated to current article, I've only upload a handful of images, so not much else to tweak I think. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:45, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
  • WP:NFC does not permit the use of cover art in discographies/videographies. This is descendant from WP:NFCC #8, significance. I've re-removed the image, and re-orphaned it. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:06, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

File:CAspanish.png

A user is reverting my uploaded picture because he thinks Voseo is only used in Nicaragua. El Salvador uses it as well and I have the source here: [30]. Do you think you can warn him or do something about it? Thanks! House1090 (talk) 23:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

We are discussing it now, if I need more help I will let you know. House1090 (talk) 01:04, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I see over at User talk:Mbhskid520. You might want to check in with Wikipedia:WikiProject South America and see if you can get some other additional opinions on that. I'm sorry but I'm not going to be much help with Spanish sources as mine is quite limited, especially with respect to grammar. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:51, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Its okay, I just want you to keep an eye out for the discussion. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 05:53, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Bubba The Love Sponge Vandalism

About three years ago you helped with Vandalism over at Bubba The Love Sponge which was coming from one or two sources continually adding BTLS.Net to the article as the "Official Fan Page". Well they are back up to it once again, and the two other people who helped with it (Seicer, LilDice) aren't as active as they once were. As per [31] Bubba proclaimed that BTLS.net was not an official fan site. Although the links no longer lead to the show summaries, you can see from the quotes that BTLS.net is no longer considered an official fan site. Was wondering if you could help at all, as I have no idea how to get admin involvement. Thanks for your time

--Heavytundra (talk) 21:43, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Try leaving another comment at the talk page pointing to that old discussion, and see if they have anything new to add to it. If they keep reverting to add the btls.net without any valid reason on the talk page go to WP:RFPP and request protection of the claim, and an admin may block the offenders as well. You might also need to open a WP:3O or a WP:RFC if it goes on. Sorry I can't be much help on the content as I haven't listened to Howard in a while. -Optigan13 (talk) 04:20, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Illustration taskforce

Hi, the illustration taskforce is really inactive, I tried to put some stuff in order to attract attention of other editors. I wanted to give it a different direction compared to the media lab in Wikipedia. Anyway, I am referring to this post you made if you have any ideas and you know of more people interested in working in such related projects I would like to hear form you. Thanks --Camilo Sanchez (talk) 23:08, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

My main reasoning with that is how spread out all of the various Images and Media people are in terms of projects, etc. You've got WP SVG, Images and Media, the Graphic Lab, few other places, and that is before you move over to commons. It just seems if you want to coordinate and build a group of users on wikipedia to work on images, not spreading them so thinly would help. WP:Images and Media isn't active, and neither is SVG, so if you start putting more effort into the graphics area, it might be better to do at the images and media project. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Nancy Drew article up for deletion

I searched for a Wikiproject for this, but found there was none, only two people commenting they wanted one. But you are both interested in the series, so you might be interested in this. Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The Runaway Bride (Nancy Drew). How popular are these books? Do you know how many libraries and schoolrooms across the world carry them? Dream Focus 02:06, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

I've commented on a lot of wikiproject proposals, but can't recall the one for Nancy Drew in particular, and don't have any real interest in the outcome of the AFD. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:22, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

As I've been pretty busy I haven't had been taking as close a look at your contributions and talk page as I have in the past. Is there any incidents lately where you've been in conflict with anyone? Do you have any particular concerns about what you would like to change? -Optigan13 (talk) 01:30, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
No just wondering. I haven't been on much so everything has been calm for now, although you should keep an eye out for the SoCal talk page. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 04:23, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Rationale-Image:66ers-acup.jpg?

What is "images need a rationale"?The Image I uploaded This is the picture. was tagged saying it needed a rationale, and I do not know what that is, can you tell me what to do? Its up for speedy deletion so can you help me ASAP. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 04:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

With non-free media (fair use), you need to do a more thorough description of why the media (that picture) needs to be included in the article, and you need to make the case for each and every article you use the image in. Looking at the current articles you've used them in, I'm not seeing anything that couldn't be described in text. You more or less need to be discussing the photo itself, or some complex image that you couldn't describe in text. Take a look at the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy_2 and tell me why you feel you meet all those, or you can just try to fill out the per article explanation template as described in Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:27, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Where do I write it? Is there a form? Could I write it here? Please let me know before the picture gets deleted thanks, House1090 (talk) 19:42, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
You write it on the File page, below the {{Non-free promotional}}. There is no need to write it here. The forms are listed at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline#Template. How do these images increase a readers understanding of the topic as opposed to filling the articles with decorations? -Optigan13 (talk) 06:05, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Can you take a look at it now. Is that fine? House1090 (talk) 18:49, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

No, not fine

  • You should be using something like {{Non-free use rationale}}, for each article you feel this image is necessary for. See WP:NFCC#10c
  • None of the explanation you provide fulfill WP:NFCC#8(significantly increasing readers' understanding). Why do I need to see a picture of a ballpark to understand that there is one in Inland Empire (California)#Sports?
  • Also, WP:NFCC#1 (no free equivalent could be created). Taking those birds eye view pictures is difficult, but not impossible (see File:SFO at night.jpg, why couldn't something like that be created? -Optigan13 (talk) 06:32, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Can you tell me why my montage picture was deleted? (File:US Large City of San Bernardo MontagePIC.JPG) Thanks, House1090 (talk) 05:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

See Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:US Large City of San Bernardo MontagePIC.JPG and work with the nominator or closing admin. Image licensing has never been my strongsuit. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:21, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

California cats

The more I've looked at how California's category tree is, the more I don't want to look at it. :( Geographic categories in particular aren't implemented very well. x_x Killiondude (talk) 07:37, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

For example, shouldn't Category:Butte County, California be in Central Valley's category rather than Category:Northern California? I mean, the former seems more specific (and therefore a better category scheme). And I've found things like this a lot lately, but I haven't wanted to make any large scale modifications. Killiondude (talk) 07:42, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
I didn't really dive too much into to those yet. I was more concerned about making sure that the root category was matched in all the county categories since that seems to be that is the easiest way to carve up the state that is more clearly defined than the categories. But if you have time go nuts. -Optigan13 (talk) 06:00, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Chula Vista

I cant find many active California WikiProject memebers but i need help. I want to improve Chula Vista, California article. It is top importance to me. Sorry, I've been busy and with only limited internet access. Have you tried posting a request to WT:CAL? I don't see any posts by you there. That would probably be a good place to start. -Optigan13 (talk) 04:38, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot on behalf of Netalarm (talk) at 03:44, 23 September 2010 (UTC).

An update from adopt a user

Hi there Optigan13! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

WP California in the Signpost

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject California for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Also, if you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 03:33, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

WP San Diego merge

I noticed your conversation here about merging WP San Diego into WP California as another task force. I agree that this should be done, but I don't know how to do it. Also, you should check out this conversation and this conversation about merging the state talk page banners into the Template:WikiProject United States. Currently, Kumioko is having some problems establishing consensus that it is a good idea. Only WP DC has agreed. Any input is welcome. Cmcnicoll (talk) 20:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

The Great American Wiknic

Hi there! In the past, you've expressed an interest in local meetups of Wikipedians. Well, here's your chance! On Saturday, June 25, we'll be joining Wikipedians in cities all over the country for the first annual Great American Wiknic -- the picnic that anyone can edit! We'll meet up at a park in SF -- hopefully in the sun -- all other details are still in deliberation!

If this sounds fun, please add your name to the list: Wikipedia:Meetup/San Francisco/Wiknic and add that page to your watchlist. (And of course, feel free to edit that page with your ideas, questions, etc.) I look forward to wiknicking with you! -Pete (talk) 00:40, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

HIV image discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is "HIV". Thank you. --DavoDavoDavo (talk) 03:13, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

This appears to have closed without issue Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Archive 14#HIV. It's a little disheartening to see denialists in action. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:04, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello!

Saw your name in my watchlist. Hope all is well with you. :) Killiondude (talk) 19:28, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm well, just been busy in real life these last few months (years?) and haven't really had time for Wikipedia. So, at this point I've declared watchlist bankruptcy with only my userspace pages left. I'm trying to sort out my work/life balance to allow for more hobbies like WP. But right now I'm just busy. Thanks, and I hope you are doing well also. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:21, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

San Francisco Wiknic 2012

San Francisco Wiknic at Golden Gate Park
You are invited to the second Great American Wikinic taking place in Golden Gate Park, in San Francisco, on Saturday, June 23, 2012. We're still looking for input on planning activities, and thematic overtones. List your add yourself to the attendees list, and edit the picnic as you like. Max Klein {chat} 18:35, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
If you would not like to receive future messages about meetups, please remove your name from Wikipedia:Meetup/San Francisco/Invite.
Probably not, but thanks for the invite. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:04, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Auto voice in help channel

I'm not sure if this still the case, but can somebody remove my name from the list of autovoiced people in the help channel, I haven't been in there in ages. Thanks in advance. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:06, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

I do not think it is necessary, but it can be done if you want it done. I'm not sure if I looked thoroughly enough through the 124 entries in the access list, so I'd like to know if it was added to your freenode account or if it was only because it matched the Wikipedia or Wikipedia cloak.  Hazard-SJ  ✈  02:29, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
It's been so long that I'm not quite sure. I believe it was added to my freenode. If you're not seeing it and you did a good look through feel free to null this one out. It was just an old housekeeping issue that I didn't want to forget about. -Optigan13 (talk) 16:59, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Bridge number?

At here, you added the bridge number "++++++34+0003". In the data file, the '+' are actually spaces. Is there a reason why these '+' are here, or can I change it to "34 0003" (and add the "33 0025" span from YBI to Oakland)?

BTW, I had an Optigan in the 70s :) —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 08:57, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Can't quite remember why. If you're seeing it as a space and it will match on any reference check it looks fine. Thanks. -Optigan13 (talk) 23:44, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Sfseal.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Sfseal.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:03, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

The pesky Feds have added another county to the San Francisco Bay Area Combined Statistical Area], which makes the SVG image outdated. error in image

I think this image contains an error. The bit where it says "Sabes So Cal?", where I believe you intended to say "Do you know So Cal?", doesn't mean that at all. The text should read "Conoces So Cal?" Azylber (talk) 00:43, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I'll take a look at it when I have time. I'll switch to ¿Conoces California? for some kind rhyming. I had knocked that out late one night and forgot about saber vs conocer. -Optigan13 (talk) 19:25, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

What's with the L.A. Task Force front page?

I don't understand what all those "panels" are about, and why we have so much about the Academy Awards, which have nothing much to do with Los Angeles except it's held in that city. Can you inform me? Thanks. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 15:27, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

The panels on WP:WLA are a way to organize things and make it look pretty. I forget where I pulled the design from, but it was just a way to clean up several old project pages. I thought a project for LA was overkill, but I rolled it up into the California project along with several other projects and hoped that people working on (LA or other parts) related material would find each other and help each other out. The featured pane was meant to show some of the quality work out there on the subject.
The lists are coming from the individual pages being tagged with the project template. They show so prominently because someone has tagged them all with the template(like this), and they have a featured status. I agree that an annual awards ceremony doesn't mean much to an area. Feel free to re-tag any pages that you feel don't warrant the importance tag that they have. But the importance doesn't factor into much beyond which pages are archived as part of WP:1.0 and as a general guide to importance, but not an exact science by any means. -Optigan13 (talk) 17:22, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't notice your reply before. Thank you very much. As for "overkill," I don't think so. People are often more interested in their local areas than in larger ones. I am trying to revivify the L.A. Task Force page, and I would like to get rid of those panels. Where do I go to actually work on the design of that page? Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 14:37, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
