The burden of proof is on editors adding/restoring material. I wasn't saying one can just add material he believes is true without a source and expect it to stay. But what you did was remove sourced material until it was verified by "a third party" when no such verifying third party exists on the topic. Omnibus (talk) 19:08, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

The claim about the Jefferson Society was "sourced" to the Society's web site -- given that it is a superlative claim about the Society's longevity, the source has a conflict of interest and it was inappropriate to cite at Wikipedia. And as you demonstrated a bit later, the University has substantiated the claim (still dubious given that JLDS is part of UVa, but sufficiently removed for the time being). You can probably find more information in Mr. Jefferson's University by Virginius Dabney. If a third-party source doesn't exist for something, then the claim should not be included. --EEMIV (talk) 19:22, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

It depends on the entity making the claim. If I could reference something extremely notable from the MIT website about the school, and there was no third-party source that disagreed (and no third-party source that agreed) it would be, and is, worthy of being on Wikipedia. There are numerous examples of this on many university pages. But, the Jeff Society is not MIT... I didn't know about their supposed "reputation for lying" until you told me... just another reason the Wash is the superior society I suppose. Your repeated removal of an image on the UVA page

Hi Omnibus, when you first removed the image quite a while ago, you objected to its technical quality and mentioned you would replace it with a better one. That never happened. (Talk about good faith assumptions!) Instead, subsequently the two only other African-Americans on the page -- Boyd Tinsley and Julian Bond -- were also removed. This behavior certainly justified, especially in light of UVA's racist history, my suspicion that an editor's personal prejudices were driving such action. When I reinstated the photos of Tinsley, Bond and Dove, you proceeded to remove the photo of Dove with the president under a changing set of technical reasons, but never returned to your original announcement to replace it with a better quality image. This then, in today's hostile political climate especially against President Obama and together with your seemingly anti-Black photo eliminations, led me to the logical conclusion that there might be a rather sinister motive at play. I do not mind you replacing the image of Rita Dove and the president with a better one, if you can find one that's in the public domain. Until then I will continue to undo removals of the image. Hi Fredv, I appreciate your talking with me on this page about the issue. Without the Dove image, there are only two post-1950 closeups on the page. Kathryn Thornton, the astronaut faculty member, and Boyd Tinsley. This is 50% African American representation and 50% female representation at a 10% African American and 55% female school, surely you are not offended by that? Also, Julian Bond is still on the page under "Prominent Faculty". I believe that we can add one to this list, and I will add Dove there soon (making 33% of the "Prominent Faculty" representation African American as well). Also, along the lines of Wikipedia: Assume Good Faith, that is a good document to start with as to why you shouldn't make assumptions about motives for other people, but especially that you shouldn't voice them. It often leads to a toxic environment where editors find it increasingly difficult to find common ground. I'll leave the Dove image as you have placed it for now before I edit the faculty box, just changing the size as appropriate. Thank you very much. Omnibus (talk) 13:42, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Omnibus, sounds good. Someone had also removed Boyd Tinsley as well as the "Prominent Faculty" bar, both of which I then reinstated. Actually, "Prominent Faculty" would probably benefit from a renaming as "Prominent Former Faculty", or better yet, from a redesign. And if there's a bit more space, I'd suggest adding a photo of Larry Sabato. No doubt, Sabato and Dove are the most prominent and highly acclaimed current faculty members at UVA. (Representation here is not really a question of racial and gender percentages but more one of national and international visibility.) No matter -- thanks for leaving the Dove-Obama image in place. State usage

Hi. Apologies if I came across badly. You are obviously a hugely experienced editor and know your way round this place better than me. I was just curious when it became mandatory to include states? It seems especially unnecessary in somewhere as famous as NYC with the state also sharing the same name. I've seen Oxfordshire removed from those from Oxford. New York City, New York...I dunno just seems abit repetitive and not what folk think of first (being from the UK i think of NYC, US). That was actually rather enlightening, thank you. Since the subject (David Bowie) is from England, it may make sense that his article would leave out the state. It looks irregular to Americans this way, but since both you and John are British perhaps it's a cultural divide and should be used sans state. Much as it should probably use British spellings. Proposal for a page

Dear Omnibus,

As previously you have contributed to Wikipedia in regards to financial articles, would you, please, consider writing an article on Creamfinance? It is a global financial services company that provides personal finance products in emerging markets. The company was ranked as the second fastest-growing company in Europe in 2016. Creamfinance is employing over 220 people and operating in 7 countries both within and outside of Europe – Latvia, Poland, Czech Republic, Georgia, Denmark and Mexico with an IT office in Austria.

I believe it corresponds to the Wikipedia notability rules as it has been talked about in legitimate third party sources.

You're simply wrong about not being able to "win" an award. Check Merriam-Webster here. The prime example given for English usage of the word award is:

"A film that has won several awards."

See also the Google graph I linked you showing that books published since about 1993 are more likely to say someone "won" an award than that they were "given" an award. You were right once, but not for at least 20-25 years.

You may not be aware of MOS:JOBTITLES, which explains that when "Vice President" stands alone, it is a title and capitalized, but in other uses—especially when modified, as with "47th"—"vice president" becomes a common noun and is spelled with lower case. Understood you are activley refactoring and I am staying out for now. Some general commments:

• MOS:LEAD says "The lead serves as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important contents." There are now numerous elements which are not present in the article body.
• MOS:LEADLENGTH says as guidline "Three or four paragraphs" for an article of this size. It is currently 6 paragraphs.
• Some book citations lack a Template:Page needed parameter; Note re MOS:LEAD, the same content is not present in the article body
• Multiple game scores are not typically presented in this location

I've never worked on the football articles of UVA before (strictly basketball) but will try to make this article as comprehensive and succinct as possible over time. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
