Nomination of Maine bound adventure center for deletion

Guild of Copy Editors May 2014 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 51 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We reduced our article backlog from 2,987 articles to 2,236 articles in May, the lowest backlog total since we began keeping records in 2009! Since at least 300 new articles were tagged during May, that means we copy edited over 1,000 articles in a single month. Amazing work, everyone!

Blitz: The June blitz will run from June 15–21. This blitz's theme is Politics. Sign up here.

Hello. I noticed you just closed the AfD as "no consensus", saying that there was no consensus for a merge, but I beg to differ, because IMHO one "delete or merge", one "merge or redirect" and one "keep or merge" is a clear consensus in favor of merge. Thomas.W talk 10:49, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

While consensus in the discussion is leaning toward a merge, I don't view it as quite strong enough to close the discussion as such. I feel a merge closure would be imbalanced per the weight of the "Keep" and "Keep or Merge" rationales provided in the discussion. A merge discussion can always continue on an article talk page. A bold merge could also occur, since consensus in the discussion is leaning toward such. If said merge is performed and then reverted, discussion can occur on a talk page regarding the matter. Technically, if an AfD is up for over a week and supported by two users (including the nom) and opposed by no one, isn't the standard coa to delete?

If I thought my proposal would be as utterly uncontroversial as it has been (virtually every user who has ever edited the pages has been inactive for years) I would have just PRODed.

Hi: I feel that relisting is appropriate in this matter per WP:RELIST, where it states, "However, if at the end of the initial seven-day period, the discussion has only a few participants (including the nominator), and/or it seems to be lacking arguments based on policy, it may be appropriate for the closer to relist it, to solicit further discussion to determine consensus." With only the nomination and one !vote, relisting is appropriate, per the intent to obtain a clearer consensus. NorthAmerica1000 11:20, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

speedy keep

WP:SK doesn't apply to TfDs as it declares itself an AfD guideline. Therefor, a withdrawn nomination where the nominator didn't propose deletion in the first place, with multiple snow and speedy keeps where the nomination was an obviously frivolous or vexatious nomination and the only three delete votes (one of which was a weak delete) were on the basis of I just don't like it, and of which was closed within two days of being open and was in the wrong forum for what the nominator wanted to do (it was an edit request)... Hi User:Technical 13: Regarding the closure, in the lead of Wikipedia:Speedy keep it states "Speedy keep is the process of closing debates at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and related pages with a result of "speedy keep..." (Bold emphasis mine regarding related pages). While it's named "Templates for discussion", TfD is quite similar in process to AfD, and templates are routinely deleted there. Furthermore, per WP:SK#1, a speedy keep is not qualified because delete !votes exist in the discussion. I feel that that would be inaccurate to list the discussion in the template atop at Template talk:Orphan as speedy keep, because 1) it was not closed as such, and 2) per the above regarding related pages. Thanks for responding. The notion of "no valid delete !votes" is subjective, though. For example, there's some validity in the delete !vote where the user states, "The template is being used incorrectly on many occasions while in some other it is being used as a bad badge". This appears to be a valid concern in support of the notion to delete the template. Ultimately, I'd still prefer to omit "speedy" from the close, per WP:SK#1.   • "The template is being used incorrectly on many occasions while in some other it is being used as a bad badge" simply reads to me as "There is a problem where users don't know how to properly apply the template (which is a user issue, documentation at closest, has nothing to do with the template) and it annoys me that it is just being used as a bad badge (which it very clearly is documented it isn't). While I agree that the above-stated rationale isn't strong relative to deletion of the template, it's the user's opinion and they're entitled to it. There's no stipulation in WP:SK that potentially invalid !votes among users (other than those by the nominator) allows for a speedy keep result. I know that this may seem picky, but If I were to close this as speedy it's likely I would receive complaints, due to the wording of WP:SK. At any rate, thanks for providing your viewpoints. What is the purpose of this page?

It is obviously impossible to list all the restaurants in London so how do we decide who gets a listing here? IT is obviously of great commercial value to get a listing here and there will be nothing but fights over entries. Triple Cooked Chips

Hello, my old friend. :) So, obviously we have to cook these at home to see. America's Test Kitchen says just toss dried, uncooked fries into cold oil and bring upto heat and don't stop till they're done. Second, "purveyance", I had to look up. Maybe popularity. Third, the article's talk post needs your input. Fourth, there is no fourth.....I'll make one....oh yeah, I'm growing fresh turmeric. Lots of leaves. Don't know if the roots are bigger. Ah, here's a good fourth: Considering your List of twice-baked foods and the thrice damaged bacon thing and these fries and who knows what else, might there be an article or list somewhere to be made?   • The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf12) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on July 3. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 8, and to all Wikipedias on July 10 (calendar).
  • CirrusSearch was enabled on July 1 as the primary search method on 36 new wikis, including the Norwegian (no), Portuguese (pt) and Ukrainian (uk) Wikipedias. [1]

  • Saving an edit with VisualEditor will now be much faster. [6] [7]
  • You can now add a caption when you add a file to a page with VisualEditor. You can also change the file to a different one and keep the existing caption. [8] [9] [10]
  • When you switch to the Edit source tab, you are now asked to keep your changes. You no longer need to find the option in the menus. [11] [12] [13]
  • The reference tool that adds empty <ref></ref> tags is now at the bottom of the Cite menu, below references that use templates like {{Cite web}}. [14]
  • Context menus will no longer be shown over items that you can edit directly, for example formulæ. [15] [16] [17]

Future software changes

  • Starting on July 9, it will be possible to globally rename global (SUL) users. The feature was first scheduled for July 1, but was delayed due to bugs.
  • A plan to enable CirrusSearch as the primary search method on the 11 largest Wikimedia wikis has now been prepared. [18]
  • If you use references on a page, you will soon always see them at the bottom of the page, even if you forget to add the <references /> tag (or a template). [19] [20]
  • Black-and-white XCF images will soon display correctly. [21] [22]
  • Description pages of SVG files will soon always show download links for multiple resolutions (example). The links were previously shown only for SVG files in large original resolutions. [23] [24]

Problems

  • Between July 2-3, there were problems with loading pages on multiple wikis due to a configuration issue. [25] [26]
  • For a few hours on July 1, there were problems with uploading new files on Wikimedia Commons due to a configuration error. [27] [28]

Anyone could have closed the discussion as you initially worded it, per WP:SK#1, because it didn't have a valid deletion rationale. I closed the discussion as speedy keep, not as a snow close as you state above. For a list of valid deletion rationales other than topic notability, see WP:DEL-REASON. Recent software changes

  • The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf13) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on July 10. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 15, and to all Wikipedias on July 17 (calendar).
  • It is now possible to globally rename global (SUL) users. Please go to the username changes page on Meta if you want to rename your account on all wikis. [29] [30]
  • You can now read a summary of the Wikimedia technical report for June 2014.
  • You can now read the latest issue of the Wikidata newsletter and translate it into your language.

VisualEditor news

  • The tool to add templates and citations will now work for templates that include HTML comments or templates in their titles. [31] [32]
  • The button to make images full size should now work correctly. [33] [34] [35]
  • References will now be shown in the default font size again. [36]

Future software changes

  • CirrusSearch will be enabled as the primary search method on the Dutch (nl) and Japanese (ja) Wikipedias on July 14, and on the Polish (pl) and Russian (ru) Wikipedias on July 16. [37]

Asian cuisine / List of Asian cuisines

I note that you have edited both of these list articles. Do you see any value in keeping both? The Asian cuisine list article is in a poor state with little information other than unsourced opinion, and is cluttered with too many images, and red links. My feeling is that there is little content to be saved in Asian cuisine, and that it might be more useful to redirect the title to List of Asian cuisines. Hi User:SilkTork: List of Asian cuisines is an offshoot of List of cuisines article, because the latter article would be too long with all of the list articles within it.
