It's kinda difficult not to stick out by using backgrounds. I messed around a little bit and I have made some first drafts. Pick one or two, so that we go from there. If you don't like anyone, let me know, and I'll keep scratchin' my head. Now let's see, how about...

hmm maybe not backgrounds but rather underlining? (a gradient, maybe?) i'm not a fan of the "cosmopolitan" (what the computer scientists in the room woud call l33t speak) could you try something more subtle than backgrounds?
