Fair use rationale for File:Skinhorse1 big.jpg

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Skin Horse

Hi, Nick. Thank you for adding citations and additional factual information where needed.

I've removed your blog links from Skin Horse, as blogs are disallowed as reference sources except in very limited circumstances under strict, specific criteria. Additionally, WP:COI precludes us from adding links to our own sites, blog or otherwise. I'm a little concerned that you seem to be a single-purpose account, which tends to indicate a promotional agenda or personal involvement that invites conflict-of-interest. I bring this up only now, after having given good-faith benefit of the doubt, after you linked to your own blog.

Wikipedia welcomes everyone to be an editor, subject to the policies and guidelines we all follow. If your interest in Wikipedia is limited only to one article where you are a fan of the subject or a participant in the subject, is not generally in the best interest of this encyclopedia. --Tenebrae (talk) 02:20, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Additional note re: Primary sources

Before you add any additional citations footnoted to the comic itself, please read the policy at WP:PRIMARY. Here is the portion specific to the use of primary sources (emphasis as in the policy page):

Primary sources that have been reliably published may be used in Wikipedia, but only with care, because it is easy to misuse them. Any interpretation of primary source material requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation. A primary source may only be used on Wikipedia to make straightforward, descriptive statements that any educated person, with access to the source but without specialist knowledge, will be able to verify are supported by the source. For example, an article about a novel may cite passages to describe the plot, but any interpretation needs a secondary source. Do not make analytic, synthetic, interpretive, explanatory, or evaluative claims about material found in a primary source. ...

Nick, I appreciate your honesty and candidness. I'd like to offer whatever help and guidance I can, since clearly you, like the best editors here, enjoy contributing to this encyclopedia anonymously for the sake of promoting knowledge and not to get one's name around. You have my respect for that.

I know this is going to seem counterintuitive to what I've just said, but I have a feeling you'll "get" the bigger picture. The fact that you're "helping to fund publication of the webcomic's second volume" means that, ethically in addition to Wikipedia policy, you really cannot continue editing anything related to it. I understand you could have been less straightforward and not explained your financial connection to the comic, and I don't want you to feel punished for doing the right thing. Your acknowledging this represents the highest standard of integrity.

I can promise you this: That I'll be happy to help keep watch over this article and work to bring it up to Wikipedia standards. And if you have suggestions for me, such as sources I might not be aware of, let me know and I'll look into it. You can see how there's a conflict of interest in your editing this article — indeed, I need to remove the illustration of the second volume that you added, since you have a stake in its success ... not from any great financial incentive, certainly, but not from a completely disinterested perspective, either.

As you mentioned, you wanted to get your feet wet editing Wikipedia and found a relatively untouched corner at which to gain experience. Now that you have — and I urge you to read the Five Pillars of Wikipedia for a quick, basic overview of policy — you're ready to move on to other things.
