Deletion conflict

I had just declined the A7 speedy deletion of Thorybos as they made a claim of significance (15 albums released and a world record) and was in the midst of cleaning it up when you deleted it under A7. Would you mind restoring it so I can finish wikifying it? --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 21:37, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for that. Not sure if the band will ultimately meet WP:NMUSIC but I'm going to try to separate the wheat from the chaff. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 21:47, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NFL templates

Hello NawlinWiki. Since you are the one who protected the templates Template:PackersQuarterbacks and Template:JetsQuarterbacks, I wonder wondering if you would move them to Template:Green Bay Packers starting quarterback navbox and Template:New York Jets starting quarterback navbox, respectively. I've been trying to standardize the names of Category:National Football League starting quarterback navigational boxes which only had four names moved to away from the CamelCase style of template naming before I came there. — Moe ε 22:45, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo! You have deleted the page Selton that I've made. I've re-written the article correcting the errors. Do you think that in this way is acceptable? If no, what is the problem? --Lorenzo Cini (talk) 21:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The problem is that you haven't made any showing that Selton meets our notability standards for bands, see WP:MUSIC, or that Selton has been recognized as notable in reliable independent sources, see WP:V. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Confict

The Eddie Long page has a lot of FLUFF in it. I was merely "decluttering" it--but it appears Wikipedia would much rather have clutter in its entries, as YOU reverted the edits. Are you an expert on Eddie Long?...I highly doubt you are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.71.86.6 (talk) 00:32, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am new to Wiki. In my searching, I found that there are not many resources regarding local agriculture, specifically the importance of cooperatives. In the process of trying to figure out why my page was being attacked, it was deleted. The company I was writing about is one of teh oldest agricultural institutions in our city. The fact that a handful of "poor farmers" built it to make things better, and grew the company to its current size is amazing. Why is it that this would be deleted? No advertisement was listed, simply facts. I am happy to cite my information, but other than tax documents and such - no book has been written about the company. I guess I am confused, because there are several companies with similar pages that I see as less significant, but they havent been deleted. Will you please restore my page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richard.ohara (talkcontribs) 20:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, but our policy is only to have pages on subjects that are discussed by reliable independent sources, see WP:V. If you think there are pages that don't meet that policy, please let me know - but see generally WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:42, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contested prod

Just to let you know, I've contested the prod on chicken and chips. I've done a bit of cleaning up on it - it still needs a lot doing, but I think it's a viable article. See for example fish and chips for a similar article. — An optimist on the run! 10:52, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit filter 47

Please revise your changes to EF47. I've disabled it for now, because it's blocking all anonymous users from using nowiki on user talk pages. --slakrtalk / 03:35, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did you seriously just completely ignore my concerns and re-enable it? Is there consensus for this action anywhere? Do we seriously need to start an RFC over whether anonymous users should ever be allowed to use nowiki, b, or font tags on user and user talk pages? I mean, that's basically what you're leading me to believe that you think should be the policy. I would strongly suggest that you please re-disable it and gain support for such a change if you truly believe it's the best course of action for the encyclopedia—especially given the disproportionate number of false positives ([1][2][3][4]) in the filter's recent history. Please let me know what you intend to do at this point, if anything, because I still strongly disagree with the current state of the filter. --slakrtalk / 19:08, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will disable it again per your request. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Let's Do It! World

Hello, you have deleted an article I wrote today about Let's Do It! World. I understand it was deleted because of "Unambiguous advertising or promotion". I tried to make it objective as possibe - but I guess I did something wrong? Would it be possible to undelete it so I could fix the problems? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinn13 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the exclamation point is part of the article subject's name. What it needs are citations to independent coverage. NawlinWiki I think you need to slow down. You could also help instead of just quickfiring and assuming bad faith. Take care. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:02, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There are other exclamation points, not something usually encountered in an encyclopedia. The article needs to be rewritten into neutral language. I would suggest that you reconsider your approach as well; many of your articles, while they concern notable individuals or companies, rely far too heavily on overtly promotional quotes. Acroterion (talk) 21:33, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The quotes I have used are assessment made by independent media sources. If you find other independent assessments feel free to include those as well. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:35, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They are quotes from feel-good feature articles and are inappropriate for an encyclopedia. The manual of style and general Wikipedia policy strongly discourages such quotes, which can in any case be easily recast into neutral language and then sourced to the magazine. Acroterion (talk) 21:38, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the descriptions and awards reflect the judgments of a independent panel of experts. I am not opposed to the language being modified to become more encyclopedic, but substituting descriptions of fine crafts that could equally be applied to mass produced wares isn't appropriate. I would expect an article on The Four Seasons Hotel to differentiate it from a Days Inn. The fact of the matter is that these are highly regarded craftspeople with expertise in their field. More and better sources are most welcome. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:51, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than continually light up NawlinWiki's new messages bar, I've provided a little context back on your user talk on why extensive quotes are discouraged. We can continue the conversation there. Acroterion (talk) 22:41, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nawlin, this user whom you have blocked appears to have been trapped by a combination of his own indecision, lack of experience and software limitation. He created this username, made esssentially no edits, and then decided to change his username, eliding the "the" therin. He was prevented by the software from making this change, as the new name was too like the old and he did not have enough edits; you then blocked him for using multiple accounts. He has asked for help, which I feel is almost certainly reasonable. Would you like to reconsider your block? --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:45, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I now see that he is blocked as a sockpuppet, so my previous posting should be read with caution. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:48, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had a declined A7 speedy deletion of ByWater Solutions LLC but the company is significant because it's one of 3 Koha support companies in the US. The company was named the top in the industry for support last year and also several citations and references were added to provide accurate information. There are also pages for most other library automation companies here on Wikipedia so I thought a page for this company made sense as well. Would you mind restoring it so I can continue working on it? --Talia 21:48, 9 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talia679 (talkcontribs)
I have not heard back from you on this but am discussing this issue with another admin who said that you are the only one who can restore my page or at least make it so that I can edit it before it's made a real page. Since the page was deleted almost immediately after I created it I only had time to add a few references, but I have many more that I planned on adding as I worked on the page a bit more last week. If you could please restore my page and give me more than 30 minutes to work on it I could show you that this is a notable page. • I looked at the deleted article again, and none of the references appeared to be from independent sources, see WP:V, and it did not appear that the company met our standards of notability, see WP:CORP. Regardless, I have restored the content to your userspace at User:Talia679/ByWater Solutions LLC so that you can work on it. NawlinWiki (talk) 18:50, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To: User:NawlinWiki, User:Salvio giuliano and User:Kinu

You are all admins. I'd like to point out what you did regarding Ozark outdoors. This was a poorly written article on a possibly notable subject (a medium-sized company that has existed for decades). It was written by User:Ozarkworld, a new editor who had done some research and written original copy on the subject. However, User:Ozarkworld was not aware wiki standards and rules. Here is what you did:

  1. User:NawlinWiki deleted the article without giving the creator any help with establishing notability despite User:Ozarkworld asking for help.
  2. User:Salvio giuliano gave User:Ozarkworld an indefinite block.
  3. When User:Ozarkworld appealed the ban giving a reasonable explanation for his or her username, User:Kinu declined the appeal because User:Ozarkworld also said something in the appeal that he didn't like.

Great work guys. Now rather than us having a new editor User:Ozarkworld has left wikipedia never to come back. Delete and block are not the only things admins are able to do. Sometimes you could try engaging with new editors who do not know the rules.

(PS. Dissent is permitted. Please don't block me) --Bucephalus (talk) 17:53, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article didn't in any way indicate that the subject was notable, or could be established as notable. I left the standard explanation, which does in fact include "help with establishing notability":

"If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this."

Nevertheless, I appreciate your concern and will try to be more sensitive in the future. NawlinWiki (talk) 20:29, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Outline of technology development

Hi, I see that you deleted an outline that I was working on. I, too, saw the other articles that sounded as if they'd have the same content, but they really don't. What I was working on is something to show the development of early man's use of technology, which is just lightly covered. And, it would make an extremely long article to include what I'm looking to include.

It may be that I had the wrong title for the article. I'm looking for it to be a companion to Template:Prehistoric technology.</ref> Can we work this out? Maybe I'm missing a way to include the topics I was looking to cover.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:38, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my, I just realized the content I was working on is totally gone - and I'm not even able to cut-and-paste it into an existing article.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, History of technology is not an outline - and there's just a short bit about early and primitive technology.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question

Hey, I'm not mad or anything, I would just like to know why you delete all the Yogscast pages. Did they contain uncited information or did you just do it because you have never heard of them? According to this site, the Yogscast receives more views than Smosh, which DO have a Wikipedia page. Thank you for your time. 95.96.128.2 (talk) 22:30, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The articles as posted did not indicate how this website met our notability requirements, see WP:WEB. If you can do that by citing to reliable independent sources (see WP:V), feel free to repost. NawlinWiki (talk) 22:31, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So how is Smosh notable enough to have its own article, but the Yogscast doesn't, even though they are much more popular? 95.96.128.2 (talk) 22:41, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) That doesn't incur notability to Yogscast. Popularity != notability unless it results in coverage.Jasper Deng (talk) 22:42, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) And because Wikipedia has over 3.8 million articles. That's a lot to keep up with...not every subject that has an article deserves one and even though the Smosh article could use some improvements with its references, it does seem to have some fairly good ones like New York Times and Batch Buzz. The Wikipedia Good Articles are great examples to use when working on improving a draft...but what you really have to do with any draft is carefully cite your assertions to notability using independent reliable sources, Referencing for beginners is especially helpful when working on references as a new editor. ThatBlokeInTheMask

I'm inclined to unblock ThatBlokeInTheMask, whom you blocked recently; is it okay with you? I recognise that it's an indef block, but the user claims to have learned proper behavior now, and a reblock is easy if necessary. Nyttend (talk) 05:02, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm very skeptical. This user seems to think it's ok to call people "fucktards" and say "I won't commit fellatio on you, now get off my page", and still seems to think he was abused by administrators. Nevertheless, he did apologize. I can live with an unblock if he gets a strict "one more strike and you're out, permanently" admonishment. Any cursing, namecalling, or vandalizing another editor's page will get ThatBloke a permanent reblock. NawlinWiki (talk) 05:09, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After saying that I'd unblocked with your permission, I left the following message: "Please remember that insults and personal attacks are not tolerated here: if you repeat the behavior that got you blocked, you will be swiftly blocked again; if that happens, any future unblock requests are almost certain to be denied. Consider yourself on a one-strike-and-you're-out policy." Your suggestion is precisely what I meant by "a reblock is easy if necessary" — I'm strongly inclined to unblock anyone who apologises after their first indef block for something like this, but I'm also strongly inclined to restore the block for someone in that case who goes back on promises made in the unblock statement. I too suspect that the unblock won't last long, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. Nyttend (talk) 13:21, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A7 deletion of "Deepsix"

'Deepsix' is a (published) novel by Nebula-award winning author Jack McDevitt, or at least the link on the McDevitt page makes it *seem* that's what you deleted. Since A7 doesn't cover books, I'm guessing that you deleted a page about something else, and the McDevitt page needs to change where it links for that particular title.

(talk page stalker) The deleted article was about a completely unimportant rock band which apparently had the same name. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:27, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To unblock-en we have been notified about this IP address, and we can confirm that it is an IP address for Haifa University, so I have labelled the talk page with {{Shared IP}}. With that information you may wish to consider how the block is described. — billinghurst sDrewth 21:09, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for subpage help

Thanks for sorting out my subpage User:Tigerboy1966/Articles. It was my first attempt at making a subpage and I didn't read the instructions carefully enough. Sorry for the bother.Tigerboy1966 (talk) 23:26, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Years ago, you fully protected this redirect page to protect it from vandalism. Now, though, I'm ready to make it a full article, rather than a redirect to a section of Ancient Egyptian religion. I would appreciate if you could unprotect it, so I can do that. A. Another one

Per this block could you look at this one - spamming cross wiki. Best for 2012 :) --Herby talk thyme 17:58, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You delete things too quickly

Hey, dude, seriously. You need to slow down with those deletions. If you continue to delete pages under A7 the second that they come out, they will never mature enough to show you why they are significant. Please slow down, and please undelete the article PANTyRAiD. They are a significant artist and are more popular than other artists that currently have a wikipedia page (See Kid Sister). Seriously, just give some time for articles to develop.

  • The article (and the two previous articles, deleted by another administrator) -- unlike Kid Sister -- did not indicate how the band was notable per our standards at WP:MUSIC, and did not cite reliable independent sources per WP:V. It's not enough for you to simply say that they are "significant" and "popular", or that we should "give the article more time to develop". We probably delete 50 articles a day on bands that don't meet our guidelines. If we left them all up in hopes that they would "develop", the site would stop being an encyclopedia of notable topics, and would become MySpace. Can you please take a look at Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports#86.6.51.126? This report is related to a sockpuppet filter, about a sockpuppeteer I'm not familiar with. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:01, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • While this is not the sockpuppet that the filter is aimed at, the edits are nevertheless inappropriate (though not vandalism) and I have so notified the user in question. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 14:12, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
