Adoption or something

Hello. Looking at your thingy (I think that should be a word. I use it alot) on the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters page, I see that out personalities actually (almost) match (no not the thing that lights things on fire). Any way when I look at your user page, you said you wanted to return that adopting favor. And the first user box on my page should show an opportunity for you. Let me know if your interested! Sincerely, Sir Intellegent 20:48, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Aside from you looking at my thingy (you know, there are Peeping Tom laws....), I think we could do this adoption. If you're willing, I can drop a "I'm adopted by the Geek" userbox on your page, and drop a "I adopted this guy who can't even spell his username" userbox on mine.  ;-) Let me know what you think! (and quit peeking at my thingy!) - NDCompuGeek 03:59, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
you are clear for takeoff! (that means yes you can). And I think we should like, kind-of limit our conversations to one talk page (oh, oops....) Sir Intellegent 22:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

re: WP:Musical Instrument template

你好 you know, I've said it for years, but only since corresponding with you have I ever written it! - I finished the rough draft for the first template, let me know what you think: User:NDCompuGeek/WIP/project5. The image is just a placeholder (unless you think a frog playing the guitar is a good representative picture....), so don't shoot me too bad for it.  ;-)) There will be a derivitave of this talkbox for use on appropriate categories, as well as the "real" template talkbox, with all the bells and whistles and trimmings and shtuff. Please be kind! - NDCompuGeek 10:00, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Looks good to me! (Except, of course, for the frog picture. ;) I made a few minor edits. Keep in mind though that I don't know much about coding.. I can only comment on aesthetics. I've created a few of these templates, but I just copied the code of another project's and replaced the categories and picture. Also, I've been spending less time on Wikipedia lately, so if I'm not that active at the project, that's why. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 14:39, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the capitalization correction.... As for your RL issues - good luck! (Don't know how to write it in Chinese, so English will have to do!) I'm sure someone of your calibre will have NO problem getting into whatever school/college/university you wish! Minot State University needs good people too ("my" university).... BTW - almost done with the main template at User:NDCompuGeek/WIP/project4, if you want to take a peek when it's done. Should be later today sometime, I hope.... - NDCompuGeek 14:48, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Hehe.. my RL is going great, and it seems that the more and better things that happen off-line, the less time I spend on-line. So it's a good thing. :) Great job with the WikiProject templates. Oh, if you want some Wikipedia-related Chinese, see my zh userpage: zh:User:Fang Aili. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 18:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
      • I think I'm done with the project template.... - NDCompuGeek 15:06, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
      • Now, what should it be named?.... - NDCompuGeek 16:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
How about {{WPMI}}? --Fang Aili talk 18:39, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

question #1

Is this type of redirect allowable if it is meant to be a shortcut? (oh, and check this out, I made it my self!) Sir Intellegent 01:15, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

    • there is now more to it (aka, clarafirer). Sir Intellegent 01:45, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
      • Even more complicated clarifierer on my page. (sorry about the trouble). Sir Intellegent 19:03, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi CompuGeek, I saw your user page and understood that you are a sort of Computer Techie. I'm a new wikipedia editor and I want to be adopted. Can you consider my request?

Adoption

Hi there! Do you think you could adopt me please? --pizza1512 15:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi CompuGeek, Thanks for your adoption. I've edited many portions of article Windows vista, removed citation required tags, of course by citing them. Now, How should I recommend that article to make it a "Featured" one?

Mugunth 05:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, if it meets the FA criteria (see also The perfect article, Article development, and Featured article advice), the next step is Peer review. After this painful ordeal (the reviewers, though meaning well, really pick apart the article!), the article must be repaired per suggestions made during the peer review. The next gauntlet is FAC - the actual FA Candidate process.
One thing you may want to consider is to nominate the Vista article for "GA" status first. This way you've got some peer review experience, the article is already considered a "Good" article, and with that nomenclature should allow making its way through the trials and tribulations of the FAC process a bit easier.
Hope this helped a bit! - NDCompuGeek 06:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Ya, It helped a bit. I went through the featured article criteria and other links you provided. I think article on Vista should mature further to be a FAC. By the way, how is this nomination done? Anyone can do it? or only Admins? Mugunth 05:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I believe anyone can nominate, though the review process itself is mostly done by a set team of experienced editors and authors. - NDCompuGeek 05:12, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

curiosity killed the cat #1

What time zone are you in? North Dakota is split into 2 unequal halves by the time zone line. I am asking so I know weather you answer my questions immediatly, or later, or in a week, or in a month, or in a year.... Sir Intellegent 19:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Central time zone- Des Lacs is about 15 miles NW of Minot, North Dakota (north-central North Dakota, roughly 100 miles north of Bismarck, the state capitol.) A year? Oh, come on! I haven't taken THAT long to answer you, have I?? (pouting)  ;-)~ - NDCompuGeek 19:37, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

problem with links

Wonder if you can help? I have a link on the tambourine page(and a number of other music pages) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tambourine

Watch a video "how to play a half moon tambourine" <http://blog.drumcrazy.co.uk/blog/_archives/2007/2/22/2756485.html>

It was a very well used link until April 2nd when it stopped working(as did all the others following a similar model.)

Users get the message:

access from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/tambourine has been denied

Now I don't know if my blogware is blocking it or if there is some other problem any ideas? Freddythehat 10:02, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hmmmm.... It seems that ALL the whois servers are out this morning (checked w/internic, NetSol, register.com, and a couple of other regional providers). I tried to check to make sure "drumcrazy.co.uk" is still legit, or if its registration ran out or something. Didn't find anything, so I'm going to try some more today, maybe make a few phone calls (it's good to be connected!).
When I initially clicked on the links, it gave me a "cannot connect to server" message at first, and then gave me a "you cannot connect with these credentials" message. I parsed the URL to "blog.drumcrazy.co.uk" and it works OK, and I looked for the video and played it OK, but I'm pretty sure it could not sense that I am still connected to Wikipedia in another window. As for the inability to directly link from Wikipedia, I can only guess that the site has blocked external linking from Wikipedia, possibly due to too much traffic, or spamming, or who knows why. I would suggest you go to the contact page (http://blog.drumcrazy.co.uk/blog/contacts) and talk with them to find out what's going on. You'll have to copy the URL, open a new window, and paste the address in the address bar to get there, by the way....  :-(
On a side note, the video subject is definitely worth having, the sound quality is good (I like the "building-up" of the rhythm), but the video is kind of grainy - if you made the video, can you maybe make another one at a faster bitrate (to show the cymbals moving better)? If you upload a video to commons (of course, it should be your own work), that should take care of any linking issues. Personally, I thought the video interesting enough that it should be attempted to keep. As for my abilities, that's another story. There's no mouthpiece on a tambourine, so I can't play it!
By the way, sorry if there are any spelling or grammar errors - it's 5:30am here, and I still haven't gotten to sleep yet. It's gonna be an interesting Monday for me!
I don't know if that answered any questions for you, but I hope it helped a bit. Any more questions or issues or anything, feel free to drop me a line! - NDCompuGeek 10:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

talk page template overkill

Thanks for letting me know about the {template:talkheaderlong} thing. I didn't do due diligence and check the usage of the template before I used it.... My VERY bad.... Anyway, thanks for catching it! - NDCompuGeek 00:41, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I just find {{talkheaderlong}} et al. highly redundant and silly, so naturally I want to see as little of them as possible. :p ¦ Reisio 17:58, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Bell-Cot

Hi, ND, I noticed your edit to bell-cot and wanted to run something by you. I think of a bell-cot as more of a structure to hold a bell rather than as a musical instrument. It is a stand, shelter, or shed used to house a bell, but I've never really thought of it as an instrument. I wonder if the article should be in another category....

Also, what do you mean by being a mentor? I rather need one for an article that plagues me.

Proposed Baptist group

There now is a proposed project to deal specifically with articles relating to Baptists at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Baptists. If you would be interested in joining such a group, please indicate as much by adding your name there. Thank you. John Carter 19:07, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

help

Hey, Geek, Someone have played with my user page, and it shows some new boxes, though the history remains untouched. What could be the reason? Mugunth 12:26, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Musical Instruments WikiProject

Thanks for hailing me on the above. I'm definitely interested in working on pages involving music, though more capable when it comes to biographies of composers and musicians. (I particularly focus on the latter in interwiki work between English and Hebrew). As my Wikipedia editing activity is largely devoted to my main sphere of expertise (the Holocaust) plus fairly regular patroling of the Humanities and Language reference desks, I won't take on full-fledged involvement in the project. However, I've signed the guestbook, suggesting how I can be of most help. Do feel free to call upon me when there are new articles in need of a skilled editor's eye and hand :-) -- Good luck! WP Christianity

Hi, I saw your name on the WikiProject Christianity Membership page.

I've made some changes to the WP Christianity main project page, added several sup-project pages, created a few task forces section, and proposed several more possible changes so that we can really start making some serious progress on the project. Please stop by and see my comments on the project talk page here and consider joining a task force or helping out with improving and contributing to our sub-projects. Thanks for your time! Unbrella nom

Hi. I would be happy to help you to set up your first umbrella nomination. For starters, can you please take a look at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion#How to use this page and let me know if any parts look tricky to you? Basically, you will tag all the cats that you want to rename with {{subst:cfr|ProposedName|CfdSectionName}}. For each one, "ProposedName" is the new name for that cat, and "CfdSectionName" (something generic, not an actual category name) should be identical for all of them. After you do this, you then need to do the Part III. This is the tricky part, because it looks like the template is not correct to make it work properly. Instead of trying to type out how to fix it here, may I suggest that you copy the markup from Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 April 7#Subcategories of Category:Animal births by year and modify it to meet your needs? The name of the section that you use here should be the same "CfdSectionName" from above to make the category headers link to it. Let me know if you have any quetsions, or if something goes wrong and I can lend a hand. --After Midnight 0001 02:26, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
