AfD nomination of Noel B. Salazar[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Noel B. Salazar. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Noel B. Salazar. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:16, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Noel B. Salazar.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Noel B. Salazar.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B (talk) 12:46, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mundomundi. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Noel B. Salazar, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. You stated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Noel B. Salazar that Salazar is your academic supervisor, so you should not be editing this article. PamD 23:16, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Pam, I never finished my PhD (I found a more interesting job outside academia), so this comment is kind of outdated. However, thanks for checking the integrity of Wikipedia pages. Kind regards, MM Mundomundi (talk) 19:23, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MM, your edits are 100% about this one person; your relationship with that person constitutes a conflict of interest in Wikipedia, as PamD noted. You have turned that page into a personal website for the person; it is not a Wikipedia article.

Dear Jytdog, Thanks for your concern. I really do not see the problem here. I have no personal relationship with the person described. As explained before, I indeed started this page when I was beginning a PhD program but I dropped out (so there may have been a conflict of interest then, of which I was unaware... I actually don't think these Wikipedia standards were already in place at that time). However, I decided to maintain this page up to date. All the information is obtained from publicly available sources. The person in question has a personal website. This Wikipedia page is meant to indicate the role of Prof. Salazar in the academic community (as he has various representative roles and his scholarship is impacting various disciplines and fields). I'd certainly welcome any suggestions to make it even more "Wikipedia"-like. MM Mundomundi (talk) 19:22, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please disclose if you are also being paid to maintain this page? Once you answer, we walk through the conflict of interest management process in Wikipedia, which involves disclosure at your userpage and at the article page, and a form of peer review prior to publishing. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 20:18, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am most certainly not paid for maintaining this page (which I do rather infrequently). MM Mundomundi (talk) 19:22, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Noel B. Salazar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable per WP:ACADEMIC: fails quite resoundingly to meet any of the listed criteria.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bishonen | talk 23:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Bishonen,

I was quite surprised to see that you propose to delete this page. I had a careful look at the WP:Academic criteria.

1. The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources. This is clearly the case. Prof. Salazar even has a personal entry in a scholarly encyclopedia. C. Smith (Ed.), Encyclopedia of global archaeology (pp. 6446-6447). New York: Springer.

2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level. Prof. Salazar was elected, as youngest president ever, of the European Association of Social Anthropologists.

3. The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the IEEE). Prof. Salazar was elected, as only anthropologist, as member of the Young Academy of Belgium.

4. The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education, affecting a substantial number of academic institutions. The impact of Prof. Salazar can be measured from his citations (which are quite high for an anthropologist). See https://scholar.google.be/citations?user=FtaUWzYAAAAJ&hl=en&inst=1273811514435761252 He has also been a keynote speaker in over 20 academic conferences/events.

6. The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society. Prof. Salazar is Vice-President of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences.

7. The person has had a substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity. Prof. Salazar is an officially registered consultant with UNESCO, UNWTO and ICOMOS.
