Is it possible to remove older versions of files that are non-free? This would benefit Wikipedia by reducing the amount of non-free content located on the site.

Yes, this can be done. If you add {{subst:furd}} to a file page and save it, it should display as a message asking for the older versions to be removed. See Template:Non-free reduced for more detail. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:17, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Use Rationals[edit]

No problem! There was nothing wrong with the way you did it, I just added the fair use rational template specifically designed for DVD covers ({{Non-free use rationale video cover}}) to the page instead of the generic one ({{Non-free use rationale}}) you had used. This way, if the fair-use requirements for DVDs ever changes we can update ever DVD FUR automatically. You can find all the specific FUR templates for various types of media here: Category:Non-free use rationale templates. But if in doubt, you can always use the generic one. If you're having any problems with other images, feel free to drop me a line and I can help you out with the often confusing rules wikipedia has for images. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box.
