Join the drive, and do a few very easy copy editing tasks. I will pass you some easy ones. The reflinks tool is very easy to use. If needed, I do it on articles I am copy editing.

This means that it tries to make the subject of the article (you, in this case) look extra good by advertising your program. You need to just state the facts without adding extra bias. Hello, Heule01! To be frank, I have no ideas on how to improve your article. I get confused just looking at it :D It needs work in becoming more than a dictionary definition, and also needs some help with wording. I'm not sure how you can expand the article. Perhaps User:I JethroBT can help you out (he knows more about psychology than I do), or you can ask your question at the Teahouse Q+A Board, where a lot of other editors will see your question. Source Help

Hi Missionedit,

I'm working on editing a page and had a question about a source that was used for most of the article. The page is Mary Berry (writer, born 1763). The information is from WikiSource... I don't even know how to link it here: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Berry,_Mary_(DNB00). What is WikiSource and is it considered a reputable/viable source to use on Wikipedia articles? Hello, Ahbeall! I'm glad you asked :) Wikisource actually is considered a reliable source for Wikipedia, because it involves actually published public-domain sources, and not Wikipedia's anyone can edit policy. So it's fine that the article uses this as a source. Wikipedia:Wikisource explains this.
Just so you know, if you want to link to something from Wikisource, do this: [[s:Berry, Mary (DNB00)|Berry, Mary (DNB00)]] and it will show up like this: Berry, Mary (DNB00). Hi Dr Anna Smith, I'm glad you've improved your article by adding sources. However, now there is another problem to address. It still needs some work on being written neutrally. Make sure the article has no extra, promotional words in it, and take out the lists of companies products so it doesn't look as if you are trying to sell them. WP:Co-op news for December 2014 – Feburary 2015

Hey Missionedit, it's been a while. The Co-op team has been hard at work during over the winter, so let's get right into what's been happening:

Landing page draft. You know it's a draft when you need to squint at the logo, ha ha.
  • Graphic design work is nearing completion and development work is coming along slowly but surely. The main components of the space, profiles, the landing page, and the mentor landing page have all been built, and we're basically just putting the pieces together. We have close-to-final draft of the landing page, which is currently at User:Slalani/Landing_page, and in the thumbnail to the right. You can check out other components over at User:Slalani if you're curious. Soni, Slalani, and I are working together on some of the front page elements. We've also been doing some testing on test.wikipedia.org for profile building and matching. If you're curious about checking that out, let me know.
  • We've finished up a survey for newer editors to assess their experiences of using existing help spaces (e.g. Reference Desk, Teahouse, IRC, The Wikipedia Adventure) on en.wikipedia. Gabrielm199 is putting together a summary of that survey, and in the meantime, some findings from that survey of 45 newer editors include:
    • On average, editors found contributing to Wikipedia to be easier after using the help space compared to before.
      • However, after using one or more help spaces, only half of editors reported that editing, addressing social challenges, and resolving technical issues were easy or very easy. The other half of editors were either neutral, or reported that these matters were difficult or very difficult.
    • Just under 30% (11 of 38 editors) of newer editors said they probably would have stopped editing entirely had they not received support from the help space they used.
    • Editors frequently reported either 1) that they would not have been learn what they needed without the help space, or 2) That they could have found it, but admitted that it would have been difficult or taken much longer.
  • We will be making one final move of the pilot start date to March 4th, 2015. This is the last move (I promise), because we can't afford to run the pilot any later than that. So there it is: March 4th or bust! But we won't bust, because there are just a few things left on our plate before we can run our pilot successfully. I'll be alerting you about when you will be able to make mentor profiles soon, so when you get a message about that, please take a minute or two to create your profile here (otherwise, you won't get matched to any editors!).

The entry Jeff Cavins

Missionedit,

I'm confused as to why the entry Jeff Cavins is being held up. All of the criteria for notability has been met. A biography has been written about his life, He has created the largest bible study in American History for the Catholic Church. He is a celebrated author and sought after media host and guest. Hi, MKHarden03! Draft:Jeff Cavins (Biblical scholar) not declined because he is not notable. It was declined because the sources in the article do not show that he is notable. The only sources you cited are publications written by Jeff Cavins. Anyone can write a book. In order for your article to be accepted, you must include some reliable, independent sources that someone else has written about this man. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources for what kind of sources you need.

@Pythonessofdelphi: 1. If a page has been patrolled, that means someone else besides the creator has checked it over and thinks it is OK to include on Wikipedia.
2. For less experienced users, the best way to create an article is by using the WP:Articles for creation process. Go to the page and follow the directions for creating an article.
I'm really too busy to take on a full-time adoptee right now, but would suggest that you look for mentoring help at the newly-started Wikipedia:Co-op, who will be happy to help! @Pythonessofdelphi: That is supposed to happen :) When you type in your name, you are redirected to create your own profile, or "page", in the Co-op. Page Creation

@Missionedit okay, I know you probably get this everyday, and I'm sorry for the repetition,but I am having a few difficulties with creating a page. I would really liked a user page and to have a mentor, both of those things require me to make a page. I am using a kindle to access wikipedia, and I think there is something about the kindle that makes it very hard to make a page, I just can't click the save button. Could you please either tell me how I can fix this, or help me start a user page, be cause I seem to have no problem editing old pages on here, just starting new ones. thanks! I also was wondering how you get those nice user tables on your page that list you name, race, religion, home country, hobbies, etc. And I just wanted to say that I think.it is really cool that you have Star Wars quotes on your page!😊(BluJay (talk) 01:31, 19 March 2015 (UTC))

Hi, BluJay! I'm happy to help :) I don't have a kindle, so I don't know how that works. What I do want to know is how you can leave messages on my page if you can't use the save page button. To create a page, you click the same button as you would to edit a page. Is the button missing when you try to create a page? The box on my page is called a user infobox, which you can find the template for at Template:Infobox user. Just enter your information in the fields, and add it to your page. Missionedit I don't really know why I can edit pages, but not create them. I just know that when I go to create a page, it looks different than when I go.to edit one, and creating a page doesn't work on my kindle. Thank you so much for creating a page for me! I'll just have to talk to people whenever pages may need created, and get help with it if I can't get my kindle to let me. You wouldn't know what I meant by "nerds" because that's not what I typed. Unfortunately, kindles autocorrect things rather harshly, at least mine does, and it only changes the words after I hit save, most times I look back over and can catch any mistakes, but I guess I overlooked that one. Adoption

Hiya Missionedit! I was recently looking at the adopt-a-user program and saw that you are on the list of users who are currently accepting adoptees. If you are still looking for someone else to adopt, I would be glad to learn from you about Wikipedia. I joined several days ago and took the Wikipedia Adventure, learning about basic editing. In the future, I would like to be able to take my Wikipedia experience to the next level by being a regular (and valued) contributor to the site. To be able to do accomplish this, I have learned that being mentored by another more experienced user can be very beneficial. I have been reading Wikipedia articles for a long time and understand the time and devotion it takes.


If you cannot currently accept another student right now, I understand, being a very busy person myself.

@JameswoodSK: Your question is perfectly justified :) The difference between Lynne Truss and Draft:Martha Brockenbrough is how you had your draft sourced. All information which is not common knowledge needs to be backed up by a reliable, independent source. Now that you have added more sources, the article definitely has a better chance of being accepted. Also, the Lynne Truss article was not submitted to Wikipedia through Wikipedia:Articles for Creation, so it may not meet all of its requirements. Hi Spyder212! I am so sorry to tell you that I cannot take on any more adoptees as of right now. My schedule completely is swamped. need help, very confused, first post

My fatherOtto Kuhni is a notable Illustrator He is 88 and ill I am trying to do something special for him and get him listed on wiki Many of his friends are listed people have the opinion that i am posting a resume That is silly I was listing his accomplishments: The original and only Hot Wheels illustrator til late 1980's when it went computerized Die Cast Hall of fame 2012 To honor him Mattel named a Hot Wheel "the Custom Otto" only one other person has received that honor. Hello Alkuhni, and welcome to Wikipedia! I can't read what you had written because it was deleted, but I can try to guess what the problem is. Peter Max is not a resume, but an article. It has a lead section, body paragraphs about his life and work in the middle, and reliable references at the end. The difference between an article and a resume is the presentation. Resumes present the information about a person in a favorable light, listing their accomplishments in promotional manner and exist only to summarize a person's life employment and education. Also, resumes cite almost no reliable sources. On the other hand, a Wikipedia biography article briefly covers all important areas and time periods in a person's life, cites reliable, independent sources, and contains no promotional tones (if possible). Again, I can't see your work, so I have no way of knowing exactly what was wrong, but be assured that the editors who reviewed your draft knew what they were doing. In the first place, Wikipedia extremely discourages editors from writing or contributing to articles about themselves or people close to them. creation of Wikipedia Page for a Pastor

Good Morning MissionEdit!

Thank you for taking my question! I have attempted to create a page for a client of ours who happens to be a pastor. The first article was deleted due to it being taken directly from his bio.

I took a second attempt to creating the article from scratch and "telling his story" and that also was deleted. This time, it is saying that it is deleted due to "promotion". I know for a fact, I did not write anything related to promoting the Pastor.

We tried our best to mimic the pages of some other Pastors we saw here on Wikipedia.

Any direction you could provide would be great.

Hi, TMarie Media! The first thing you must do to create a Wikipedia article is find some reliable sources to back it up, especially a article about a living person. Citing these sources in the article will definitely help it pass review. From what I saw before your article was deleted, the wording of your writing did sound a bit promotional. Although this was probably unintentional, it is very hard to write about someone you know from a subjective point of view. Completely promotional articles have no place on Wikipedia. For more information on writing articles about your own clients, I would suggest you read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. @Claire Morgan1: I'm sorry, Claire; I think you misunderstood what I did :) I did not mark the article for deletion; rather, I tagged it with the {{linkrot}} template to notify cleanup editors that the bare urls in the references were not formatted properly. This tag alerted another editor to fix the problem and, as a result, remove the tag. This in no way whatsoever has anything to do with the notability or deletion of the article. Depending on who you have as a mentor, adoption usually merits lessons of some type, assignments, and maybe some tests. The whole time your mentor will keep an eye on your progress and activity on Wikipedia, being available to offer advice and answer your questions. Yes, I am not currently accepting new adoptees because the five active ones I have already are quite a handful :) However, my real-life schedule is winding down now and I will probably be able to accept one more by sometime next month. After finding a reliable source, you cite it by placing the citation (name of the source, date, author, ect.) after the information, and then placing <ref> right before the citation, and </ref> right after it. Missionedit, it's istrigo. Thank you for your input. I think I have fixed the issue now. The article now satisfies both of the criteria below.

1. The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.

The most typical way of satisfying Criterion 1 is to show that the academic has been an author of highly cited academic work – either several extremely highly cited scholarly publications or a substantial number of scholarly publications with significant citation rates.

2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level.

Dr. Craig is cross referenced in at least two wikipedia pages (Pain and Homeostatic emotion).

Hi Istrigo! I think that Craig is notable enough for Wikipedia, but only 3 of all the sources cited in the article are considered both independent and reliable by Wikipedia's standards. If you could find perhaps another source, that would be helpful. Anther thing the article needs work on is the style of writing. On Wikipedia, we try to make all our articles as neutral and unbiased as possible. Some of the wording could use some work (e.g. instead of "Already during his postdoctoral work", "During his postdoctoral work" is more appropriate) and according to our naming style, prefixes like "Dr" are not used. Just so you know, you should sign all your posts on talk pages with 4 tildes (~~~~) at the end. Hi Mithilan 72! One thing you should do is not cite Wikipedia articles as sources in your draft. Wikipedia does not consider itself a reliable source, however ironic it might seem :) You can, however, place links to other Wikipedia articles in the article's text, as I did in this sentence. To make the word "Softron" into a link that leads to the Wikipedia Softron article, put double brackets around it like this: [[Softron]]. The result look like this: Softron.
You also are going to need some more sources that are considered both reliable and independent (meaning not paid for, written by, or promoted by the subject of the article) to show that TaxTron is notable. See Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything for more about this.
Another thing you need to fix before the draft can be passed is the promotional tone of the draft. Promotional writing can be anything that makes the article seem like it's trying to sell you something. For instance, remove the parts about the different languages, and the software packages. sSome of wording could be changed, too.
