This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Harry H. Goode Award, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/awards/harrygoode. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Your contributed article, Harry H. Goode Award[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Harry H. Goode Award. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Harry H. Goode. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Harry H. Goode - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Eeekster (talk) 20:56, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2010[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Harry H. Goode Award. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 21:01, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I redirected it to Harry_H._Goode#Harry_H._Goode_Memorial_Award and semi-protected the redirect for some time. Unless the award is really famous, we merge the articles for memorial award and the person for whom it is named. Bearian (talk) 21:36, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I replied to you on the article talk page, but since it has been deleted I will repeat the comment here: The prose (everything but the list of recipients) needs to be rewritten so that it is no longer a copy of the source. It must be a substantial change in order to avoid simply creating a close paraphrase which would still violate copyright. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:47, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So basically, I have to re write using my own words? I have to so many other pages.. I thought this was going to be relatively easy to create or obtain the info from already created pages. Since I have re write the information with my own words, leaving the same message and tone of voice.. makes this task a very long to accomplish. Any other thoughts?

I'm afraid that's pretty much how copyright works. Straight facts (e.g., the list of recipients) are fine to copy since there's no creativity involved in it, but as soon as you get into explaining something using writing that someone else already did and copyrighted you have to rewrite it pretty extensively. You don't need to say the exact same things, but the facts should be supported by your reference. If you read the essay on close paraphrasing I pointed you at earlier it should help explain some more of what not to do. As far as it taking a very long time to accomplish I'm afraid I don't have any good answer for that, it's just work that has to be done in order for the content to be acceptable.
