wikidata edit

Hi. I hope you are well.
On the left side of wikipedia window, I have section "wikidata edit". Do you know how to get rid of it? I dont remember why, but I am certain this is connected to you somehow lol. I looked at the usual suspects like common.js, and common.css but all the entries are familiar there and nothing related to wikidata edit. —usernamekiran(talk) 07:56, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

@Usernamekiran: I have a Wikidata Edit as well. It's useful for adding Wikipedia items to Wikidata (though sometimes it doesn't work properly for me on some of the computers I use). I don't remember what I used to add it to my toolbar... I remember adding it, but I can't find it in my common.js or common.css either. It may be good to post this query on Women in Red because a lot of people involved in Wikidata will see your question and can help out. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:11, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
It seems to have appeared around the time the links to the WEF tool disappeared from the main article pages. I must say I much preferred the old system. It's not so easy to edit Wikidata info from the article edit pages. Does anyone have any idea how we can explore this and perhaps suggest improvements.--Ipigott (talk) 09:07, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
Even though I am not sure how did i add it, I am pretty sure I did it by myself; and also that MLG is somehow connected to this. Its strange though, how we cant find a way to remove these options. —usernamekiran(talk) 07:17, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
@Usernamekiran: I'm sorry if I've caused any trouble for you! :( Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:48, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
lol, not at all. It is just, somehow I remember it was connected to you; so I thought you might know how to remove it or how you added it. You dont need to apologise usernamekiran(talk) 18:25, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

@Ipigott: found it. it is from meta. —usernamekiran(talk) 20:57, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

@Usernamekiran: As I suspected, you must once have installed the Wikidata tool so that you could make Wikidata entries while viewing a Wikipedia article. The code you installed is explained here. I've been using it frequently for quite some time but the WEF sidebar entries did not appear in article edit mode until recently. As I mentioned above, I agree that this is a backward step but there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it. If Megalibrarygirl told you about it, it was probably my fault. A few of us on Women in Red have been using the tool (or "the gadget" as it is sometimes known) on the English wiki so that we can immediately provide essential details on Wikidata of the women we cover in our biographies, especially when creating articles on those who have not been covered in other language versions of Wikipedia. I'm sorry the tool proved to be such a bother but am glad to see you were able to delete it. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:31, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Zheng Pingru

On 12 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Zheng Pingru, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Chinese spy Zheng Pingru (pictured), who was executed after an assassination attempt on a Japanese collaborator, is believed to have inspired the novella Lust, Caution, and its film adaptation? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Zheng Pingru. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Zheng Pingru), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Happy holidays

Call a spade a spade

What's this? I pop over here wondering if you can spice up Andra Samoa so it doesn't get deleted, only to find you've taken a week off. This is an unacceptable level of service; when I was on holiday last week, I managed to file an RfA while sitting on Worbarrow Bay and finished off a GA review while playing chess with my kids. (And they say men can't multi task!) I expect a full written report on my desk first thing Monday morning. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:13, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

and who will look after kitties while you are away mmmmmmmmhhhhhhh?:)) Coolabahapple (talk) 15:28, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
Ritchie333 She's working. She's off traveling to get a book for the Wilma Mankiller article we are working up to GA :) SusunW (talk) 16:25, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
@Ritchie333, SusunW, and Coolabahapple: thanks for the vacation wishes! Today is my slow day on vacation, so maybe I'll look into some Wiki stuff. (Can't stay away too long! I loves it!) But you should all know that I have been duly suffering 94 degree Florida humidity in EPCOT (Every Person Comes Out Tired), the beach (where I got slightly burned) and Universal Studios (where I was soaked on many of the rides and came out of the place with significantly less funds than I went in!) See you all later today (If I can get away from the pool.) ;) (PS, I have hired teh cat sitter.) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:45, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Well in my humble opinion one of the best family days out you can have over this side of the pond if you're a Wikipedian is a trip to Longleat. Kids can feed giraffes, get lost in the maze and go on some rides. Grown-ups can explore the treasures inside the house, see the straightjacket that Charles I wore before he went on a dramatic weight loss programme, and discover the delightful eccentricity, dress-sense and "wifelets" of Alexander Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath. For the Women in Red crowd, there's an eight-foot portrait of Emma Thynn, Viscountess Weymouth which screams out "I'm the boss, now!" along with her extensive cookery exhibition. How many family trips do you come away from thinking, "I should really expand one of the articles on that?" Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:29, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Ritchie333 that sounds awesome! For reals, down here in Florida we had an actual heatstroke scare (my stepmom was severely dehydrated) and I have no interest in improving any of the articles on Disney, Universal, etc. On the other hand, I did get to have Butterbeer and pumpkin juice at Hogsmeade in Universal Studios. So... on the balance? :P All the same, I'm glad to be with family and we're all drinking lots of water now! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:34, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
It's been baking hot here too; temperatures reaching the 30s (that's 90s in Fahrenheit), although everyone who's old enough to remember the summer of '76 thinks it's not as bad. Over the holiday my eldest son managed to beat me at chess, which suggests either he's pretty good, I'm rubbish or (most likely) both. I've not tried pumpkin juice, but I did get Sarah Frey's article to DYK some time back; she makes it on an industrial scale, apparently. If I ever go to Florida I want to roadtrip the Overseas Highway from Key Largo to Key West and back again. Oh, and pass whatever resort Trump stays at and stick two fingers up at him as I go past. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:41, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Well, if we are making vacation recommendations, I suggest skipping Cancun and coming to Merida instead. Cancun is a tourist-filled spot, not resembling Mexico in any way. I would also suggest bypassing Chichen Itza, (yes I get that it is a world-heritage-site, but also it is a tourist mecca) opting instead for Uxmal or Palenque, where you can actually enjoy your learning experience without hawkers or jostling from the masses. While there are lovely beaches throughout the world, cenotes are pretty unique and amazingly different, depending on whether they are fully open, partially open, or fully enclosed. As for heat, same here as in Florida for you right now, Sue. Not remotely baking, I hate cold, but always drink lots and lots of water, lime juice, chaya smoothies (ch-eye-uh) or jamaica (hum-eye-ka) and have learned to always walk on the shady side of the road. We also have Sikil Pak, a roasted pumpkin seed and charred tomato/onion dip that puts hummus to shame. Far better than drinking juice ;) SusunW (talk) 18:48, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
SusunW your area sounds lovely and delicious! I am in tourist central right now, but it's a family vacation where we all get together and everyone voted Disney, etc. Ritchie333 once they start winning at chess, it's all over. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 20:08, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Glad to have you back, even if your mind is still hangin' on the beach :) SusunW (talk) 16:17, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
"I must go down to the sea again // to the lonely sea and the sky // I left my shoes and socks there // I wonder if they're dry?" [1] I do admit I thought of Megalibrarygirl while making this edit, except substituting "guitar player" and "bass player" for "librarian" and "Wikipedian" respectively. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:43, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
That's good, Ritchie333 since I'm hopeless at music. :P Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:44, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Aretha

Soulful.....

I'm struggling to get Aretha Franklin's article completely sourced so it can get on the main page ASAP. Surely as a librarian you must have at least one decent biography of her lurking around? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:20, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: We do. I'll have to track them down before they're checked out. I can help with the sourcing today most likely. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:42, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
That's great. I've added sources from whatever I can find as a stopgap to get it on the main page, but they're all a bit of a mish mash at the moment. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Monica Valentinelli

Hi there! Do you see any sources that can be used to improve the article for Monica Valentinelli? BOZ (talk) 12:08, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

@BOZ: I can look. If I find any, I'll add 'em. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:40, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you kindly!  :) BOZ (talk) 18:19, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Rescue Barnstar

The Article Rescue Barnstar
Thank you for adding references and content to Lois Combs Weinberg, ultimately helping preserve the article from deletion. And bonus points for the line "she could be an antique potato chip collector for all I care", which made me laugh. Great work. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 14:29, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)@Acdixon: The truth is stranger than fiction! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:38, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: That's... I mean... Sometimes, there just aren't words. When someone in their 30s has collected 9,000 empty potato chip bags for no good reason, it's one of those times. (I say that like there could ever be a "good reason" for collecting empty potato chip bags. *sigh *). Thanks for somehow making MLG's comment even more funny, and also somewhat more disturbing. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 15:38, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
@Acdixon: I was totally thinking of Ritchie333's potato chip bag collecting lady when I wrote that. ;) Thank you for the barnstar! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:18, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

I started a DYK nomination about the 2,500 aluminum can ring-pull suit here. I'm not going to make some cheap joke about its owner being "on the pull", I'll leave EEng to do that instead..... Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:02, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Va-va-va-VOOM!
I must be losing my touch, because I'm coming up dry as far as lewdly suggestive hooks go. I like the bit about low-caste riders being required to wear special clothing, but the source sets my spidey-sense tingling – a statement like this will surely be be found in a high-quality academic source. EEng 12:40, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
"The pants were worn tight to prevent snagging on brush" .... well, if there's one person who can get a DYK hook out of tight pants, it's this one. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:05, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
If we can find a source saying that Charo wore Charros, then I think we'll be able to come up with something. EEng 16:46, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Ritchie333 and EEng#s you've both made me smile! I wrote the article because it was driving me nut to figure out what a "charra outfit" was because there are some on display at my library! I think I do have a better source for the low caste riders from JSTOR if you think I should go back into the sourcing. :) Thanks for nominating for a DYK! :D Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:12, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, it's true, we are the real chuckle brothers, and along with Mr Pants we are available for all pantomimes (provided you've got the charro outfits), children's parties, bah mitzvahs, state visits, Trump protest marches. I see Susun with a 'U' has done some work on the article, so I think she should probably get a credit at the DYK too. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:17, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, that's pretty much all I can come up with on short notice without resorting to racial stereotypes about Mexicans that I would look down upon anyone else for making.
To be fair, my goth days back in the 90's taught me that my first suggestion is pure bullshit. You... Probably don't want to know the details. Apologies to anyone with a visual imagination. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 03:35, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
.... or for those of us who read user talk page edit summaries. Pants, does the phrase "too much information" mean anything? :-D I've stuck these rib-tickling ALTs in the nomination, so we'll see what happens. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:30, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Pants, does the phrase "too much information" mean anything? :-D Yup. It's the line, past which, anecdotes start to get funny. ;) At least for the person telling it. To be honest, I figured admitting to knowing the truth of the first hook would make for a worse visual. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 13:10, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Lolcat - I'll get you for this
@Ritchie333 and MjolnirPants: you are both very silly. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:59, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Thanks for doing the heaving lifting again, putting together all the September templates and event pages for Women in Red. And congratulations on your promotion!

Rosiestep (talk) 05:58, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Ditto to all of that from me. I know you've had a lot on your plate this month, so good to see you rewarded for your skills. SusunW (talk) 14:03, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks to you both, Rosiestep and SusunW. It has been a crazy month. But I'm always happy to make the pages anytime. In fact, if October looks good, I'll even jump on those. LOL. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:44, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
My 2 cents, if you want to go ahead and draft them that's good. What we definitely need is to make sure the redlists have been prepared, as I'm not sure we have exiting lists for any of October's offerings (unless we go with organizations for women). SusunW (talk) 19:08, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
@SusunW: I think for the clubwomen, I can glean some names off of other redlists. I'll take a look and after I wrestle though this article I'm looking at, can put together. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 20:01, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Cool. Just let me know when and how I can help. SusunW (talk) 21:00, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Cadell

Thanks for the information. I'm not a fan, and I'm not even sure how I came across the article in the first place, but I'm glad I did - she sounds interesting. :-) --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:38, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

No problem, SarekOfVulcan! I love working on these types of articles. So many women who were once popular, just sort of disappear after their deaths. It's nice to bring their stories to light. There's way more info in the archive, too. I'll keep working on it with you. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 22:00, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
Looking forward to it. I want to find out what happened to the Gay Pursuit movie, those snippets I found were frustratingly truncated. :) --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 03:25, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Agreed, SarekOfVulcan! It seems like it wasn't made. :( I wonder if they still have the rights? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:00, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
