Speedy deletion nomination of OCOA Platform

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on OCOA Platform, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. Sockpuppet investigation

Request reason:

I was blocked some time ago due to sockpuppeting, related to my efforts to post an article about my company, Solodev. It is true that I created a second account with the company name; but I did so not out of malicious intent, but due to a misunderstanding of Wikipedia policy. I now understand that role accounts are not allowed, and that multiple accounts per user are not allowed. I also reached out to several colleagues for assistance; I did not realize that was improper at the time either. I have no intention of working further on content about Solodev myself (though it's possible a colleague will make further efforts to submit a properly disclosed and referenced article), but I now that I better understand the standards around corporate accounts, sockpuppeting, and canvassing, I hope to have this "black mark" removed from my user page, and I would like to be able to explore Wikipedia editing around my various interests, if and when I have the time. In addition, I hope that the Solodev account page could be deleted (like User:Microsoft). I understand the account needs to remain blocked, but I think it's excessive to have a permanent negative notice attached to my mistakes early in my Wikipedia editing efforts. Thank you for the quick response Just Chilling. The account "Techcto" was the CTO of our company, Shawn Moore. Several of us were working to get the article posted, and we did not sufficiently understand Wikipedia's policies. As you can see from his username, while he did not fully disclose his connection, he was also not going out of his way to hide it, as "CTO" was part of his username. We regret running afoul of those policies, and we did not wish to impose on the good will of Wikipedia editors. Since last December, we have made an effort to better understand the requirements around disclosure, sock puppeting, and canvassing. We plan to observe them rigorously going forward. • I just blocked Mattgarrepy (talk · contribs · count) and MarilynVaca (talk · contribs · count), both of whom are using the same IP as Mattmclaren. It's impossible to tell whether we're talking about one or more persons, meaning socks or meat, but the pattern described by Mattmclaren continues, and apparently no one at Solodev has learned anything, despite Mattmclaren's claims to the contrary. The two new accounts apparently think that making a disclosure on their userpage is sufficient. It's not. Wikipedia is not a platform for one or more editors to promote affiliated companies, bands, whatever. I will not consent to this user being unblocked.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:36, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for looking into it, Just Chilling and Bbb23. I do not understand, though, why my colleagues are being punished for my mistakes. I understand (now) the issues around canvassing and single purpose accounts, etc. I've sought out advice and information based on our experiences, and I see the problems with our approach that led to the sock puppet label. However, I want to emphasize that I never intended to deceive anybody about my identity. The only sock puppet account I created was Solodev, and I did it under the misunderstanding that having an official company account would be viewed as helpful, not harmful. I never used that account to vote, only to seek information from other users on their user pages and at the help desk. All the other accounts tied to my IP address were simply colleagues voicing their own views. We all understand now that "stacking the vote" with multiple accounts is unacceptable, and I am confident my colleagues won't be repeating that mistake, nor will I.

I'd like to reiterate my request to have my own account unblocked, not for the purposes of working on Solodev-related content, but to be able to work in other areas of Wikipedia. I'm not sure whether I will do so, but I don't think it's fair to have a permanent block notification on my account when I have learned the lessons and have no intention of repeating the actions of the past. I believe my colleage Matt Garrepy will be submitting an improved version of the Solodev article in the future, but I am no longer working on that, and I won't be chiming in if he does so.

In case it's relevant- my name is Matt McClintock. I chose the name "mattmclaren" because I'm a fan of the McLaren Formula One team, and because I saw that it's common for people to use pseudonyms here.
