Richard Strauss infobox etc[edit]

Hi! Just a note to say that I have replied to your questions on the Richard Strauss page. Also to say we would be delighted to have your participation in the Opera Project. Best wishes. --Kleinzach 00:02, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kleinzach! Thanks for bringing the Opera Project to my attention! I will try to help out whenever possible! Matthias Röder 07:14, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you may know, the German WP has a lot of information on opera that we don't have on the English one. If you are in touch with anybody who might be interested in translating we'd be very pleased to know about it. Some examples are here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Opera#Can_you_translate.3F. Regards. --Kleinzach 07:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will see what I can do! May I also ask a favor? Right now I am working on Music in Berlin. It might be good to add relevant info in Opera in Berlin to the article. I am looking for experts on the development of opera in Berlin after 1945. Anybody in group who could help? Matthias Röder 11:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Unfortunately we seem to be weak on German opera at the Opera Project. Most of us know more about English. French and Italian opera. In fact most of the German stubs were started by me and I am no expert! --Kleinzach 13:35, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fasch[edit]

Thanks for your news on this. Best regards, --Smerus 12:21, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing! Thanks for your work on Music in Berlin!! I'm very excited that someone else is working on the article too now! Matthias Röder 12:46, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hiller[edit]

I took that from my reading of the Corina Schroeter article. Please do correct it! Bis bald, Angus McLellan (Talk) 13:35, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this information. I will try to find out more from 24fan24 who wrote that article! Matthias Röder 15:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. I have done an edit. It looks good. I see you have already joined the Opera Project. You can leave a note here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera but I can also see if I can find some information in Grove on the individual operas in order to produce some stub articles. Best. --Kleinzach 11:00, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits on the article! They look great! Matthias Röder 08:41, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matthias! I am happy to help you out with this. The book out of which I got that particular piece of information about Hiller, is called Women Making Music. It is edited by Jane Bowers and Judith Tick (1986). The information on Corona Schröter is located in the chapter by Marcia Citron, entitled "Women and the Lied, 1775-1850." The paragraph states that his educational facility was co-ed, but it was founded on the principle of inadequately trained female. Hope this helps you! ~Liller

Thanks, Liller! Will take a look at this book! Greetings, Matthias Röder 08:44, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Schlesinger[edit]

Hi Matthias! Great to meet an(other) musicologist here!

It's a delicate issue, just how a subject's Jewishness is addressed, as I'm sure you've noticed, and in three years on Wikipedia I've seen more fights on Wikipedia over whether "Jewish" should be in the first, defining, sentence of a biography than I care to count. It's a little bit ridiculous how people fight over these things, but it's a reality here, and there seems to be a consensus to keep it out of the first sentence unless, say, the person's accomplishments directly involve Judaism. Usually the issue can be handled by good writing elsewhere. Look at how Leonard Bernstein is done, for example: it's in the first sentence of the second paragraph, and the information flows nicely. The Albert Einstein article does it the same way. (Alfred Einstein doesn't mention it at all: that needs to be fixed.)

Looking at the biography of Schlesinger in Grove, I don't see a single mention of Jew or Judaism -- yet the Beethoven references in the Wiki article make it quite clear that his Jewish heritage was significant for his career. Maybe a workable compromise would be to not put it in the lead, but put an explanatory sentence below it, for example in the paragraph regarding Beethoven's correspondence, e.g. "Schlesinger's Jewish heritage was sometimes an obstacle, for example when ..."

If you think this would be better put on the article's talk page, that's fine with me. Cheers! Antandrus (talk) 23:59, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your help and your nice welcome message! I'm glad we're getting a good group of musicologists together here at WP! I tried out Citizendium for a while but that place is really dead... Concerning the Schlesinger article I will try to find a good compromise. It's just sad that there are editors who seem to go around WP "fixing" articles in subject areas that they obviously have no clue about. Ah, well.... Matthias Röder 00:14, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And now something else...[edit]

Mathias, thanks for your help, we now seem to have cleared up the problems with Schlesinger. Following from that I started to look at the WP articles on 'Music publisihing' and began to clear up the existing article which was only about publishing recorded popular music. I have made a start by renaming the article 'Music publisher' as Music publisher (popular music)', editing it extensively, and creating a dismabig in Music publisher. There really needs to be a 'Music publisher (sheet music)' article and I have created this as a stub to start with.

However, my move and edits have prompted an objection; so if you are interested you might care to visit Talk:Music publisher (popular music) and cast a vote (hopefully against moving back) for the reasons I have given. Best regards, --Smerus 15:34, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smerus! Thanks for your message and sorry for not getting back earlier! I have cast my vote but instead of agreeing I proposed something new.

Besides the reasons I gave on the article talk page, the original addition of this link is part of a larger dispute. See: Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#User:Bookuser. -- Ronz  00:47, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, Ronz! I'll answer it on the music and maths talk page! Matthias Röder 10:10, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Berlin Singakademie[edit]

Hi Matthias! The article is looking good - I made a couple of very minor copyedits. I will check for a ref re the London AAM - I think I meant this to reflect that the AAM was the first European musical institution to seek to 'revive' older music as Fasch did, but I am sure I have seen comment about this elsewhere....The article has very little on the period after Mendelssohn - is there much to say about the Singakademie in the 19th and 20th centuries? Best regards, --Smerus 08:23, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help, Smerus! Well, my plan is to add more information about the post Mendelssohn period later. Right now I though, I'd concentrate on the early years. There is a good book by Gottfried Eberle on the history of the Singakademie which I have flying around somewhere. In fact, let me add it to the bibliography... Collaboration rewrite[edit]

Thank you for prompting me to explain that rewrite tag—this sort of 'check-and-balance' is the very embodiment of collaboration! :-) —Parhamr 08:30, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! I'm eagerly awaiting the new revision! Matthias Röder 23:02, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mozart[edit]

I think it is obvious to most people who are interested in classical music, but curious beginners who look him up on wikipedia would want to know how acclaimed he is. Kind Regards--Awenty 11:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Awenty! I agree with you. Many people who are reading the article about Mozart would like to find out more about how he was and is regarded as a comoser. For this reason we included the sentence about him being "among the most enduringly popular of European composers." If you think that there should be more about this topic, feel free to edit the section on his influence. In my personal view that part still needs a lot of work. Thanks for your message, and sorry for not getting back to earlier! All the best, Matthias Röder 22:00, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @HapHaxion, I am not sure why my page was deleted by you. I am not very active on wikipedia now, but I can tell you that I have always been trying to create good content here and being supportive of the community. It is extremely dissppointing to see that my page is deleted for supposedly being misused as a webhosting etc. A quick internet search would have shown you that I have multiple websites for my project, companies and myself and I surely don't need to "misuse" wikipedia as a webhost. That said, if you can re-instate my user page I would be grateful. If not I will create a new one. Thanks! Matthias Röder (talk) 20:25, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
