The Bolus revert

Hi Matt - to be honest I don't recall the statement (and it is the kind of thing a vandal - from an IP address - might get up to!). As to whether it's appropriate on the page you put it on I really am not certain - wiki can be very anarchic as well as co-operative! So maybe (unless someone else "reverts" it) it's up to you. Get back to me if you like (& do sign any stuff on talk pages).

Cheers -- Nigel 07:09, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Style note

Hi. Just a note. Per WP:MoS#Sections and headings, one should write

==See also==

rather than

 ==See Also==

(and analogously for other headings, one should use lowercase).

By the way, perhaps you would consider merging Down (game theory) and Up (game theory) into one single article, say called Up and down (game theory). I think it may make more sense that way as those two existing articles basically say the same thing up to some words. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Foyle's War

Why did you move The Funk Hole? WP:Name specifically states to only disambig when necessary.. Please reply to me on my talk page. Illyria05 (Talk  Contributions) 03:24, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, it's okay, at least this is my viewpoint. Some people have a different one than I do, and could argue differently.. Anyway, I apologize, but I did not understand this sentence: "work with the Torchwood stuff btw.". Did you mean good work with the Torchwood stuff? Sorry, just did not know.. I hope you're referring to the new Battlestar Galactica :P .. Hey, did you hear about the BSG DVD movie in development? Illyria05 (Talk  Contributions) 03:23, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I do mean the new series. Don't think i ever saw the original. And no I hadnb't heard about a new BSG movie. More interested in the stargate ones really. mattbuck 11:57, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

"Missing image" in DST page?

Your recent edit to Daylight saving time reverted some vandalism but also removed an image, with the comment "Removed missing image". But the image isn't missing, at least not for me. Is it possible for a vandal to temporarily remove an image? Anyway, I reverted that change. Eubulides 16:28, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

It was red Xed for me, even after refresh, so I removed it. No big deal. mattbuck 16:32, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I noticed that you have been doing Newpages patrol. You may want to take a look at WP:CFSD to take a look at some deletion templates, and use the suggestions at the bottom the bottom of the templates to put on the user's talk page. Thanks! BlackBear 21:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mattbuck. I notice you recently added an infobox to Forti FG01. In case you're not aware, there is a template available racing car infoboxes: template:Racing car - you may find it more convenient to use in the future. Regards. -- DH85868993 00:04, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't write the stuff about the sing-along. I just made a few edits in order to look more "encyclopedic", but I agree with you as it is not. Maybe a little inline mention would worth at the end of the Black Holes and Revelations section.--Fluence 22:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Neveron

The article Neveron has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 12:34, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I am so sorry; my computer screen went blank for about 10 seconds. What I was trying to put right was "Hislop's replied with" It should be "Hislop replied with." You wouldn't say "Ian's replied with," but "Ian replied with." Again, very sorry - mistakes happen. INXS-Girl 14:36, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation of Lola

Hi Mattbuck. I notice that you recently disambiguated a lot of links to Lola. Good work! In my experience, when most people do a "disambiguation run" like this, they don't update links on User or Talk pages. In fact WP:TALK suggests that editing comments in Talk pages is generally not allowed. Maybe something to keep in mind for the future. Regards. DH85868993 01:34, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not doing anything of the sort

You havn't given any reasoning on why you gave it the speedy deletion tag other than "it looks fake" which can be undermined by the external links at the bottome of the page. therefore, give good reasoning and the notice can stay. whateverisclever 3:32, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

TBH, I think there was one there before, but it got removed when I redid all the references. And unfortunately, the comment won't stop people. There's a quote on the Russell's Teapot page by Richard Dawkins which on its own doesn't quite make sense, and even though there's a comment there people still change the damn thing. People are idiots. Still, thanks. mattbuck 15:40, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

McFly/TakeFly

Can i ask why you took that off? Harry from McFly mentioned us at the gig, the fact we were a tribute band to them and that we were there. We are included on their myspace, have our own myspace, promotes the fact that we did a charitable act by helping raise money for Comic Relief, plus gives us some recognition for working our backsides off! We even got mentioned both on Radio 1 and our local radio along with local newspapers.

Mostly, anyone who adds a link is spamming it. If you want to repost it, ask for comment on the Talk:McFly (band) page first. mattbuck 18:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I added disambiguation link on the Perry Cox article because perviously Dr. Cox would redirect there. Recently Wikiproject:Motorsport has being working on a universal template to replace National_Circuit, F1_Circuit and Nascar_Track as well as allowing for dragstrips and other types of venue to be included. As such Template:Motorsport_venue was created. All uses of National_Circuit in the main articlespace have now been replaced with the new Motorsport_venue, therefore I wish to ask you if you have any objections to National_Circuit being nominated for deletion as a redundant template. Automated reversion

Howdy! In this edit, you appear to have used a form of automated reversion (looks like the Undo button) to revert a non-vandal edit. The undo button is reserved for vandalism, please don't use it for casually reverting an edit that just doesn't flow right or somesuch. - CHAIRBOY () 16:56, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't normally block users for 3RR if they are discussing contentious edits on the talk page and your last edit on the talk page was towards brokering a compromise. (finally)! However, I can't believe that after recording your fourth revert you then went back and calmly reported another one! This demonstrates blatant disrespect to the other users editing the page and a disregard for the editing standards of the project. I feel that a block is the only possible outcome in order to register a clear signal that your conduct has fallen well below the expected standard. You have been blocked for 24 hours. Finnish Podium Finishers

You asked in the Fuji GP thread whether it was true. I can't produce a source off the internet saying what is claimed is true or not - however using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Finnish_Formula_One_drivers, you can eliminate all possibilites.

All Raikkonen's podiums came after Hakkinen's last race. Salo's two podiums came in races where Hakkinen crashed. Lehto shared his podium behind Senna or Berger, not checked that, but no Finn. Keke never shared a podium with a Finn as the remainder never have scored one, apart of course from Heikki who scored his first and shared with Raikkonen so, to answer your question it is true.

Average points per race

Hi Mattbuck. As you may know, before 1990, drivers could only count the points from a specified number of races towards each year's championship, e.g. in 1988 Prost scored points in 14 races for a total of 105 points, but could only count his best 11 scores (= 87 points) towards the championship. But when calculating average points per race, it makes sense to use the total points scored, not just the number that counted towards the championship. That's the approach that was used in the Career points table. DH85868993 15:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

The total points are listed in brackets in the drivers articles and in the points tables in the season summary articles - I didn't realise they weren't listed in List of Formula One drivers - we should probably fix that. DH85868993 15:31, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Here's the list of all the drivers who dropped points - in case it helps. Feel free to delete it from your talk page after you've used it. DH85868993 15:43, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Category:Guests on The Colbert Report

Hi Mattbuck - I nominated "Guests on The Colbert Report" for deletion. You probably didn't realize it, but categories don't work well for this kind of information, for a lot of reasons: One major reasons is that information can't be footnoted in a category, but this kind of information isn't always notable enough to be included in the person's article. So for this reason we don't categorize performers by individual performance. This kind of information is much better maintained in an article in list format (although it would have to pass notability requirements for an article). The categorization page, Cat FAQ and the Categories, lists and series boxes documents do a great job of explaining some of this. ... You should feel free to add your commentary on the CFD discussion ("categories for discussion"), although you'll be in a better position to understand people's references to policy if you've read through the links I gave you. Cheers, Laura --lquilter 11:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Colbert on FaceBook

Hello Mattbuck,

How do I message you back? Is this correct?

Why is the following spam? Does it need to be formatted differently?

An election is a "popular" issue (in the "of the people" sense of the word). This link demonstrates the magnitude of Colbert's popularity in a meaningful way. It's an example and a participatory access point. The above group grows my the hundreds and thousands as I type this (literally, it's at 574,785 members as of 6:08pm Eastern) and is among the fastest growing groups on the second largest social network in the world, FaceBook.

Unless I've missed some technicality, I believe the link is appropriate and relevant. Please explain to me what I am missing.

Thank you for protecting Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThomasGHenry (talkcontribs) 22:09, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

GTA merges

Hi, thanks for adding the merge discussions that I forgot. About the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack that I initially proposed for merge; I reverted because it appears to simply be a list of all the tracks in the game, rather than an article on an actual soundtrack album like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Official Soundtrack, so I was going to AfD it rather than suggest it be merged into an article about an actual album. Miremare 17:46, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Do you know if there is a regular Official Soundtrack release as well as the box-set edition for Vice City? If so, we could replace the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack article with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Official Soundtrack and merge the box-set into that, like the San Andreas ones. Yeah, might have been confused. Was doing a lot of vandal reverts/warnings. I see two disruptive edits, just one of which was "Gay" related. Kovalainen Renault contract.

Hey there, I probably should have posted on a discussion page before that edit but put simply the Autosport article is incorrect.

This is the article you mentioned which was cited: Autosport contract confirmation
And here is a later article from the very same site stating otherwise: Autosport test news/disconfirmation

Several other sites have recently noted that he has not been confirmed. It is important at this moment that Kovalainen isn't assigned since he could well end up at McLaren.

I request to change the primary Renault seat to TBA since I am 100% Kovalainen is not signed for 2008.

Thanks! Tombag 21:00, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, since there's a source. Better put the url in a comment to make sure no one else reverts it. mattbuck 21:26, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

McFly article

Hey! I nominated the McFly (band) article for a Good Article status again. I went through the article just now and managed to find references for some things (especially in the "Formation" section) - do you think there are any other statements I missed that need references? I also made some other changes, notably merging the "Tours" section into the actual text. I think it makes it less messy and less list-like. It was easier to add a sentance or two to the album sections while still being relevant. Hopefully the article will get the status this time! And if not, at least we'll know how to improve it. --Stacey talk 22:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't think things like their date of birth need to be referenced though... --Stacey talk 17:34, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Because then every tiny thing would need to be. For example, the Lindsay Lohan article was featured article once before and even that doesn't have her DOB referenced. --Stacey talk 19:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Gillian McCarthy

A tag has been placed on Gillian McCarthy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Horse stuff

Hey, saw your comment on Dana boomer's page, just an FYI that if you see a horse article with a problem, give me a shout, I also can probably lend a hand too, been at this a while now. Montanabw(talk) 08:34, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Stargate

I noticed you like Stargate Atlantis. Are you insane? There's no plot. They have everything, nothing can go wrong that's why its shit. Stargate SG-1 is much much better.

Sorry just had to get that out of my head!

Karni

I think it's fair to say it is a competition! That's rather the whole point, each 'hall' (or group, I suppose, since medics have a team, and most of the 3rd party accommodation not-actually-halls do) is motivated to raise more money than the others - the winners recieving the Karni Cup at the end of the year!

But nevertheless I do agree that in the context of the article, it was irrelevant, just making a point :p

Ajp06u (talk) 19:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC) (former karni rep (2004)... I have hence renounced charity, if it makes you feel better (and I certainly wasn't one of those karni reps, if you know what I mean, I was quite civil usually!))

Signature

You recently brought up my unnecessary signature habit here; please see the discussion here for further information. Again, if there is a technical - or other - reason why it is not a good idea I have no objections to stopping. Regards, [[Guest9999 (talk) 16:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)]]

Giving birth in a coma

Hi Mattbuck. You recently asked whether a woman in a coma can give birth, and not a week later this woman goes and takes a bullet to the head, and subsequently delivers an underweight but apparently healthy baby! --Sean 18:24, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

RD deletion

You might give newbies like Tracker8888 a heads up on the user talk page when removing their question .... unlikely they've sussed out the existence of the History listing for an article. I've dropped him a note in this instance. --Tagishsimon (talk) 19:32, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

WHR(P)

The reason this page is being created is the fact that the WHR page as it stands contains details of three diferent railways - the original, the WHR(C), and the WHR(P). Three entirely different entities run by entirely different people.

You will note, as the page expands, it will not be duplicating but will refer to the main page as required

what am I am allowed to deleat of you see it as vandalism? Jenzzyuk 09.31 Jenzzyuk (talk) 09:31, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I think the "strange" {{1ft11.5in}} template was there to ensure that an '11½' was displayed for the distance rather causing a calculation (the same is the case for {{1435mm}} and {{4ft8.5in}}. —Sladen (talk) 16:18, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

deities

Honorifics for deities, when used alone in reference to a specific figure of veneration, start with a capital letter (God, Allah, the Lord, the Supreme Being, the Great Spirit (from WP:MOS). I think you were confusing it with the pronouns- He and She etc. not being capitalised for deities? Merkinsmum 01:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Referencing question

You've probably noticed I edited the lead in McFly (band). I didn't reference some of the statements in the lead as they're referenced in the main article already e.g. ROT3F going platinum. Do you think that's okay? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Telescope (talkcontribs) 15:07, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I thought we were meant to *always* link when it's formatted as "December 23, 2006". -- Stacey talk to me 15:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
I added more to the lead, although I'm not sure it's relevant but at the moment, it's probably too short for GA status? I'm not particularly sure what would be good to go in it though. -- Stacey talk to me 16:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
The article is still up for peer review but I guess no one wants to do it. -- Stacey talk to me 17:14, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

dougie poynter, danny jones, and harry judd pictures

i think i changed the licencing option, i chose it wrong; it was supposed to be "i found it somewhere". i found it on google. so sorry for the mix up. but id really wish the pictures could still stay on because none of those pages (dougie poynter, danny jones, harry judd) has a picture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fran mcfly (talkcontribs) 12:19, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Danny Jones

I'm sorry but whats your problem? Why do you constantly delete what i write on Danny Jones' page when there's nothing wrong with what i have put? —Preceding unsigned comment added by X Charli (talkcontribs)

Direct Insult of user on The Stig talk page

I've just reverted a comment you made regarding the user who described The Stig's African cousin as African-American. This is not the first time I've noticed you make rather intemperate and very inappropriate comments regarding users on a talk page. Please consider refreshing your memory of the Pillars, particularly the one regarding assumption of good faith. There are any number of other, more reasonable and less insulting explanations for a simple error such as was made by the user. I would also urge a bit of caution regarding flinging insults ridden with uncapitalized proper nouns that open you up to similar criticism. Judge not, lest ye be judged. --Drmargi (talk) 11:48, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

If I just blank it, vandals can simply click "undo". If the page is deleted, the vandal actually has to type the whole thing out again (i.e. work), and most won't bother. J.delanoygabsadds 00:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Neologism

The tag is used to remind editors of the page to remove content violating those policies as per WP:NEO. It does not say that the article does contain those problems, and it does not intend to. Have a nice day! :) asenine t/c 13:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Thong

Sorry, that I didn't notice you post to my talk page earlier (what a shame). I really appreciate your additions to the thong article (awesome show of organizational analytics). I was actually planning to do that to the article that's up for deletion. Wikipedia presents us an wonderful opportunity to bring things under the fold of an encyclopedia that was unthinkable in the age of paper encyclopedias. Hundreds of Pokemon characters? Simpsons episodes? All that may look unencyclopedic to editors of a traditional encyclopedia. But, visitors to the Wikipedia access these articles as much as Quantum Mechanics and the Iraq War. These are the articles that make Wikipedia a revolution, a phenomenon, and puts it on the path to growth. Knowledge is not bound to what academics think as important, but what the people, the contributors think as important.

I had split the mother article, and created this one, to do exactly what you proposed - a deletion through consensus. But, over the time I have come to see the merit in such articles, as well as their growth potential. I have started to work on the article. Check out tomorrow, and let me know what you think of it (and, please, ignore the shabby English when you do, I don't write good copy yet). Though we have divergent solutions at the moment to the problem this currently-atrocious article presents, I sincerely hope we shall reach a point of convergence that would benefit the Wikipedia quite optimally. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
