History of the ACC[edit]

Regarding the unbalanced article: I agree. My contributions were intended to answer the questions: a) what is the first and b) what is the oldest? I think the casual reader wants to know that (for example, the enduring popularity of the Guiness Book of World Records); more so than a lot of the polity of the church. Locator Maps[edit]

To use a locator map... Go to the lower half of this page about the template usage...Examples which shows the different formats for Croatia and a few other examples. The locator map can use either decimal or degree -minute-seconds of longitude and latitude.

I generally use Geo names to find the locations. Good luck.

All you have to do is change the label, and the longitude, latitude and all should be good to go.

So a copy and paste you could use for Grenfell located at Latitude - Longitude : 50° 25' 00" N - 102° 56' 00" W or 50.416667 (West is always a negative value for longitude in decimal format) -102.933333

So in the infobox under the value of image map, this is the template to paste in. |image_map = ((Location map |Saskatchewan |label=Grenfell |lat=50.416667 |long=-102.933333 |position=right |width=300 |float=right }}

Don't worry about differences in British vs. American spelling. However you guys write things up in Canada, is fine with me. What I was really referring to is the necessity of a good copyedit prior to nominating for WP:GA or WP:FA, particularly to catch any minor grammatical issues, or wikipedia manual of style issues, that the regular editors might have missed. Though overall, the article is very well written, but sometimes the professional copyeditors might catch things you and I might miss,... ;-) Also, two specific guidelines or templates that might help for the article are WP:USCITY and WP:UKCITIES (sorry, there's no template for Canadian cities; you're always free to start one ;-) ... but hopefully the two should help point you in the right direction towards improving the structure of any city article. Qu'Appelle and Indian Head[edit]

Hello there I am so sorry for confusing these two fine places. We traveled home from there a few years ago, and took the pictures. I labelled them as such, as I remembered spending more time in Qu'Appelle than in Indian Head. I will defer to your knowledge of these places as you seem to know South Saskatchewan very well, and me, I'm a Saskatoonian who is trying to learn more about SK. Whenever we pop down to Regina we try to take different route there and back. If you tell me where I took the wrong turn regarding names, I will revise, please and thanks. Kind Regards. Well I think I have things all right now. I tried to find some images, or supporting docs for the other places. There is only for instance an RBC in one place, and the Indian Head community hall is brand new, so perhaps the Lions Community hall does belong to Qu'Appelle. The town hall matches an old Qu'Appelle postcard of the town hall. I have deleted the wrong names, and re-uploaded all the images with better names. Thanks so much for the heads up. Will be starting an article on the Bell farm next, and then revise and add it also to Wikinews as well, as 'tis in the newspaper. I do wish others would see Saskatchewan. I find it so amazing. Our Saskatoon does have a few buildings from the late 1800's which are starting to be preserved, but they are so visible in Qu'Appelle, and other small towns compared to here where you have to dig them out between the houses. Qu'Appelle photo[edit]

Hello there. Re the photo, even though the original photo was taken in 1889 so the Sk Archives who owns it can publish it which they did, we would need to ask permission from them to re-used it as now the copyright date of their website is 2005 as per their terms of use. I will pop off an email to the archives for permission for use.

re discussion on talk page, sounds like with a few more citations, and just a little tweaking, it should survive some of those comments. It is good to have content on it that is from some one from the area and not just a re-hashing of stats, so we should see if we can smoosh it into their wiki format while keeping the info intact. I will see if I have any info around and about here with citations thingies to help out, as the article as an awesome base.

Hello there. Tried to add a few more statistical sections..weather, government, education, geography etc. from online and book sources....as I have never had the benefit of staying/living here. I found notes about high school being taught in Qu'Appelle but it doesn't seem to be taught there any longer, do you know about secondary / post secondary education in Qu'Appelle? I don't think that the Qu'Appelle Indian school in Lebret needs mention here, even though it has a name overlap, but the location is different. I couldn't find anything online about any sports or sports teams current or previous to have a sports section. Is economy covered in the section Qu'Appelle today or should there be mention of commuting and that the loamy soil produces cereal, oilseed, forage and specialty crops in the area. The geography section could use some of the geographical sentences in other areas of the article perhaps. What is your opinion on a Sites of interest section? The historic land trail markers are not close to here. The Troy-Prince Albert trail marker is located 9.6 km w of Humboldt. The Wood Mountain-Qu'appelle trail marker is located at Oro Lake Park north east of Ormiston. No, the Qu'Appelle Indian school was, as you say at Lebret (actually on the opposite side of Mission Lake from Lebret) and had nothing to do with the town of Qu'Appelle. Thank you, I also see you have commuting, and thank you for the note about the high school in the article. I missed it being in the image notes. Is it possible in the article to make the image notes smaller, and put the long text of the images - which is really quite interesting - in the prose of the article so tis not missed by silly folk like me. I think some folks only read image captions, and some only the prose of the text. I tried to read both, but missed that tid bit of info. Me again. ahhh the Qu'Appelle school taught grade 1 to grade 12, and it is in modern history that James Hamblin School stops at grade 9. Where do students go now a days for grades 10-12, do they have to go all the way to Regina??.... I added a note on the Qu'Appelle talk page about the fact that there was even press coverage about the unscrupulous nature of chosing a literal pile of buffalo bones for a capital city rather than a major distribution center. If you could plop in some citations or references to answer this point...Inadequate sourcing for much of the article, especially in the media, churches, cultural events, and economy.... and fix whatever else you were commenting about....we could again offer the article into a GA review...If you were leary about putting in that there was a hudson bay company post or fort at Qu'appelle as there were several more historically famous ones at Fort Qu'appelle, but I did find a website source outside the local history book that Bill Barry wrote about the Fort at Qu'Appelle. Another source was not listed was for Ka-iu Fung, Professor of Geography, at the U of S who was editor of the Atlas of Saskatchewan, Celebrating the Millenium edition pages 34 and 35. Images[edit]

I have put the full description on the actual pages that hold the images, so that the description is not lost until it can be incorporated into the article. The detail o knowing the buildings and their evolution is very invaluable, and I didn't want to loose the information while making the captions smaller. When the article is re-read then the fuller captions can be added where they make sennse to be popped back in to the article prose. Indian Head, Saskatchewan[edit]

Hello there. Thank you for your comments re the Indian Head, Saskatchewan photos. Sometimes I miss the obvious like the main streets, but if the community goes to the trouble of erecting and paying for a plaque or monument, it usually is a memory they wish to preserve of some import to that community, so that is why I usually take those photos, if I can find them. They are usually unique to each place as well...so their claim to fame. Most of the Indian Head, Saskatchewan photos are on the article except for the museum pictures, and I added the commons category link today as well. I've made some small edits; One to Moti's legal limbo (As I think it's fair to say that even though he's under arrest, his legal state is innnocent until proven guilty, so he's not in Limbo, he's simply awaiting trial). The other was about an article from 'The Australian Newspaper' that I think is relevant to the circumstances around the 1999 Vanuatu case. I've inserted text with citations on that, but haven't touched any text from the Marr quotes or other information you've got in there. So I hope that's ok by you.

Hmmm... Your point on the ramifications of not being tried is well taken, and certainly quite true. It's unfortunate but a reality that the legal concept of burden of truth sometimes doesn't stop people from leaping to conclusions; and there are plenty of examples worldwide where wrongfully accused people have later been vindicated, only to be left to try and pick up what's left of their lives. I haven't been back to the article since my edit of the other day... I'll try to think of an improvement if you haven't put one in already. I also definitely agree about the chronology and I think Tony's posted a tag to the same effect - it is a little disjointed now and hopefully it's just a matter of swapping text around. Thanks for the note. I was going to talk to you about this as well. I took a picture of the location of the signing 2 years ago. The picture is called File:Treaty4.JPG and it is in the Fort Qu'Appelle category. Maybe it was called the Qu'Appelle treaty in reference to the area, but the main locale would be as you say Fort Qu'Appelle North West Territories. So the Treaty 4 article should be indeed corrected. Qu'Appelle distances[edit]

Hi there I usually go to two sites for distances, one would be mapquest, where you can type in the two places, and it calculates the distance and give the actual driving route as well. The other is Geographical Names of Canada (geonames) where you can request the closest geographical places names within either a 5, 10 or 20 km radius of the places you originally looked up. I can find on the above geonames site the location of B-Say-Tah which is 4 km or 2 mi from Fort Qu'Appelle. The Map sources/GeoHack tool server is down on wikipedia right now, and map quest does not find B-Say-Tah. It is further than 20 km from Qu'Appelle for the geonames site. Ah ha I found it on expedia.com...and plopping it into the conversion template thingie...33.6 kilometres (20.88 miles)^*

Qu'Appelle[edit]

Hello there. I think you are right about what the post would have been in that era, that kind of building/s. . ...You know reading over your wording ....southwest of the future site of the town from 1854 through 1864...maybe the Qu'Appelle town archives or library archives or RM archives would have a planning map of the town which may have info about it....I was at the railway museum by Saskatoon the other day...and an early map of Saskatoon was amazing as to what it had on it for past localities and future plans...some of which have indeed materialized...perhaps the Qu'Appelle town planners had some sort of similar map. I looked at the satellite map on wikimapia, no ancient markings, and the TC 1 is south west, so any evidence may be under the highway. Wikimapia .... I have added some to the article, but I think what I can do has been added now. You seem to have an innate knowledge that adds a richness to the article past the dry bones. The government section may be trimmed down of the riding/constituency histories if the article proper gets too long. I don't know where to find some sectional information, but will keep an eye out for sections lacking from the article still, added the two outline formats on the talk page which help me out as to what sections have been included in WP articles in the past. RE towns[edit]

Hi there The part I do is very similar to the genealogy research I have been doing for quite a while, but using more web site resources than microfiche. Microfiche are not quite so much fun, sitting in a dark room peering at poor handwriting, and then the dataset you want, that photo is blurred, or a page is put over top when the photographed the content or some other Agrrh thing, but they do give information. I find with SK anyways, once I find the source for stats, weather, politics and the various sections, the sources pretty much also suffice to glean the data for the other placenames as well unless the placenames get too small and become part of the rural municipality. It has been really quite pleasing to see Saskatchewan come more and more online, about 8-9 years ago when I started looking up genealogy abroad, lots was online, and then I peeked around for SK, and it was pretty slim pickings, and it is so awesome now. I will see what I can do about the other places around and about which you mention. I, personally, would also like all thirteen cities to be beefed up as well to look like city articles instead of just 2 or 3 of them.SriMesh | talk 19:26, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You had added a large amount to this article by the time I visited! I will get out the atlases and start again today. It is cool to the see placename articles fill out. I did a little more on Grenfell, and I think I am nearing the end of my sources. I think the article still needs some tweaking as mentioned on the talk page where I think you and I doubled up a little in separate sections ie military. I think I will make an ethnic pie chart from the census yet. There was no weather station, so no weather chart :-( So weather can only be added by prose. ABB Grain[edit]

Hi, may I ask why the fact that Viterra was "(formerly the Saskatchewan Wheat Board)" is relevant to the section in the article ABB Grain about the merger? Besides, was it not a merger between the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Agricore United?

In the Viterra article, it does not say "ABB, the most part of which is made up of AusBulk" or anything of the sort. This is because most readers of these sections do not particularly care what's happened in the companies' history, and if they did, they could simply follow the link to read a bit more about that company (the fact that Viterra was formed between two companies is mentioned in the lead section of the Viterra article). --timsdad ^(talk) 08:01, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The French Counts of St Hubert, Saskatchewan[edit]

Did you see the new article The French Counts of St Hubert, Saskatchewan created by a new wiki-editor Gating? They may indeed also be of some help in that neck of the woods of Saskatchewan.

I tried to wikify the somewhat, but it is rather a new type of area, a historical ethnic settlement, but I don't believe it is a provincial or federal historical site, .... may have to write to the Saskatchewan heritage society or folklore socity for a designation or if there is a cairn,plaque in the area. From the sounds of it on the talk page, he got permissions to use an old article of the Whitewood Herald, so it was that editor probably which chose the spelling style. It could probably be cleaned up to be consistent with the use of only one convention which would be grammatically more accurate. It sounds like the folks from St. Hubert went to horse races with the folks at Cannington Manor. I'm thrilled that the French Counts article has generated some interest. The author of the original article, (Larry Smeets) and I grew up in the St Huberts area. I now live in Manitoba and Larry lives in BC. We both have relatives in the area and ancestors buried in the St Huberts cemetery. The article was part of a commemorative book "Memories of St Huberts" that was written for the 90th anniversary of St Huberts parish in 1980. The book was printed but not published by the Whitewood Herald. I would look forward to adding more material to wikipedia generally and about this area of Sask. vISITS to Saskatchewan[edit]

I find your comments interesting re photos and the seasons. Of course, as I live in Saskatoon, that is the majority of my contributions, but I have tried to run here and there when I can. But doing other SK work, it is amazing the # of times asked by other folks in the WWW what here looks like in winter, so I have had to click a few of those here and there, but travelling is easier in the summer - and the football games are summer and fall so they entice us around and about a bit better. I wish you luck with you new job. Will continue to peek in at the article of Whitewood here and there, things a bit busier now, and our poor little puppy is in at the vets :-( but we should get her back home tommorrow. :-) Take care. An editor inserted the business about his being a member of the Royal Families of the UK and Canada and reverted my deletion of "and Canada." That deletion was predicated on the basis that if it were appropriate to add that detail it would also be necessary to include all the other "British Dominions Beyond the Seas." The editor indicated in so-reverting that there was no citation for the other "Commonwealth Realms," as they are now styled, having the British monarch as their heads of state, whereas this is the definition of a Commonwealth Realm. And indeed the lede of the article specifically says that the Earl himself served a term as Governor-General of South Africa before he was Governor General of Canada. PNG question[edit]

I think the problem can be readily solved by being bold with merging and redirect. There doesn't seem to be any editors actively maintaining the pages. So, create a new page with the proper name and merge and redirect to them. Any editor can do this. See:Help:Merging and Wikipedia:Redirect. I've done this on other occassions and it usually goes well. If you want, you can give 5 or 7 days notice of discussion. I doubt it will lead any where. Sometimes it is best to be bold and do it. He was Lord Denning MR for 20-years or so, but he was also Denning J, Denning LJ and Lord Denning at various points. We shouldn't base it on a single form of professional notation. Respectfully, I would maintain that the analogy does not hold. In Quebec, "Episcopale" is routinely used in church literature as the French equivalent of "Anglican." Umm, yes, I do, as I thought my previous post made clear. In English Canada, church signs in high-tourism areas often add the "Episcopal" tag to be helpful. I don't think that this is at all the same as the situation in Quebec, where "Anglicane" while official seems to be dis-preferred outside of legal and canonical contexts. I would argue that a closer analogy would be the Scottish or American churches, where "Anglican" is likewise avoided out of historical sensitivity (although there the legal name matches the common one, while Canada has opted for a characteristically muddled - Anglican? - solution). My own city's cathedral uses the word "Episcopal" on its sign, but no one calls it "the Episcopal cathedral." By contrast, in Quebec, the change to "Anglicane" just doesn't seem to have caught on, or at least has done so highly inconsistently. I was looking at your image (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brisbane_CBD_from_Chatsworth_Road_at_Cavendish_Road,_2009.JPG) on the Coorparoo, Queensland page, and noticed that the location you gave didn't match up (I'm a local to that area). I had a bit of a look around and I think you took it from Upper Cornwall Street, not Cavendish Road.

Do you have any idea as to whether this is the case? I'm pretty sure I'm right, but I thought I would double check before I go editing anything.

Images in Regina[edit]

Images should be as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images#Forced image size and Wikipedia:Image use policy#Displayed image size. If you thought there was a problem with the one image then you should have fixed that one rather than reverting all of them. The images were being displayed at various sizes and there was no gap between the end of the image and the sentence making it very hard to edit.
