Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Cribbs Causeway, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Thornbury (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Talk Talk[edit]

Hi Mark, I'm not convinced by the page move on the talk talk article. Its not a big thing, but can you engage me on that article's talk and come to an agreement. As I say, no real big deal. Ceoil (talk) 23:55, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Schools[edit]

Nice work on the schools as always. A couple of observations - please give references where you quote pupil numbers, the best place to get these is the EduBase link. Also, with the UK education project I would spend some time establishing the project and getting some members before you start rating articles. It seems crazy that you are rating every school as mid or higher. I would say all schools are low with only stand-out ones such as Bristol Free School (important as one of the first schools) being mid-importance. High importance has to be for some really exceptional reason. So grow the project, get consensus on the ratings, document the ratings, and then start adding them to articles. --Bob Re-born (talk) 22:24, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Various[edit]

Please follow WP:MOSNUM when formatting numbers and dates. UK, for example uses 1 January 2012 not 1st January 2012, or January 1st, 2012.

Also, please do not abuse the {{Under construction}} template. You have a tendency to put the template on an article, have a short fit of editing, then you leave it in place. If you intend to do major work to an article then by all means use the template, but do please remove it in a timely manner when you have finished.

Finally, please consider properly formatting reference. Preferably you should use the {{cite web}}, {{cite news}}, or {{cite book}} template. If you have any questions please ask. --Bob Re-born (talk) 16:33, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Establishment dates of schools[edit]

Hi there, I have noticed that you have updated some establishment dates of schools that have become academies. I just want to inform you that although an academy is technically a new school, because they start off in the same buildings as the old school AND they take a direct transfer of the old school's pupils, on Wikipedia we do class them as the same school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Bleaney (talk) 12:15, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind explaining to me why you moved the article shortly after a discussion which established no consensus for a move? Also, what was grounds for the proposed title - the article calls the company/brand/operator "Wessex", not "Wessex Bus". CT Cooper · talk 19:01, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

September 2012[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to List of bus routes in Gloucestershire. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Charles (talk) 22:56, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion[edit]

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Bristol Airport.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! Emptying categories[edit]

When you empty out a category and then want to have the empty category deleted, please use {{db-c1}}. This is a template for this specific situation. The key factor here is that categories must be empty for four full days before they can be deleted. The DB-C1 template automatically counts down this time and then makes them visible for admin deletion after the four days are past. So you can just mark it and not have to worry about coming back later. The delay allows time for someone else to protest the emptying of the category. I have no idea whether or not your emptying of these specific categories is valid or not. But the delay gives time for someone else to make that judgement and then protest, if they disagree with your actions. The four day delay is part of the rules for deletion of empty categories. I have moved the ones you have currently tagged over to the DB-C1 template, and would request that you use this template in the future. - TexasAndroid (talk) 14:50, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your category changes for education in Bristol[edit]

Hi there,

I'm sorry but i'm a little baffled at your recent drastic category changes for Bristol. In particular you seem to have emptied Schools in Bristol, Comprehensive schools in Bristol, Sixth form colleges in Bristol, and Further Education colleges in Bristol.

Firstly, Schools in Bristol is needed as essentially is the category for schools that offer education for children in the compulsory years (5-16). All other counties, and indeed unitary authorities in England have their own version of this category which all link to the wider Schools in England by county category. A useful collection of categories which is part of the wider web of Education categories for England.

Secondly, Comprehensive schools in Bristol is needed as this lists all secondary schools that are under direct Bristol LEA control, and that essentially offer the comprehensive English national curriculum, unlike Academies who can offer a specialised curriculum Or grammar schools who can have selective entry (though Bristol doesnt have any of these). Again, all other counties, and unitary authorities in England have their own version of this category which all link to the wider Comprehensive schools in England Category.

Thirdly, Sixth form colleges in Bristol is needed, as Sixth Form Colleges proper have a special designation from the Department for Education as providers of sixth form education for students aged 16 to 19. They are different from School sixth forms and sith form 'centres' as they have their own management, and are independent from any school or local authority control. They also cannot be academies. Yet again, all other counties, and unitary authorities in England (which actually have Sixth form colleges proper) have their own version of this category which all link to the wider Sixth form colleges in England Category.

Fourthly, Further Education colleges in Bristol are again of special designation from the Department for Education as providers of a wide range of education courses for people of all ages and all abilities (Not just 16-19 year olds). Again, all other counties, and unitary authorities in England have their own version of this category which all link to the wider Further education colleges in England Category.

I have largely reverted your changes as I strongly feel these categories should remain. If you disagree, please start a discussion on the resepective category talk pages where a wider consensus can be reached on the matter, as per the Bold-Revert-Discuss protocol. Bleaney (talk) 21:38, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Further education in Bristol[edit]

I did initially empty Category:Further education in Bristol, and nominate it for deletion. However I have reconsidered, and think its a useful category to contain the different types of education provider sub-categories. Sorry! Bleaney (talk) 22:10, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
