but you can't just repurpose an article to become something else. If an article gets too long (which the Marshalls article hasn't) then it can be split, but there is a proper way to do it: WP:SPLIT. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 13:34, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Conflict of interest?

I have no idea whether or not your interest in the Marshall Group is just because it is a major business in your local area. But just in case may I draw your attention to policies Wikipedia:conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

My remark requires a quid pro quo declaration: I have no interests financial or otherwise in the Marshall Group or any of its subsidiaries. I watch the article because of the possibility that Marshall Aerospace will move to Cranfield Airport, near where I live. Hi, thank you for flagging that. I am new to this - so your steer is very helpful. I do have a connection to Marshall but am not being paid to do this. It is a personal passion project. Yes, you did the right thing but in the wrong place. You need to put that flag in talk:Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group and talk:Marshall of Cambridge . On your personal page, you could just write exactly what you have said above: I do have a connection to Marshall but am not being paid to do this. It is a personal passion project. Minor edits and citations

As most new editors do, you have misunderstood "minor". It means grammar or spelling corrections that have no effect on the meaning of the article. The size is irrelevant: a change from "now" to "not" is jus one letter but certainly not minor. See WP:MINOR.

Can you also look at WP:citing sources (which is very long so for now you just need to read template:cite news and template:cite web. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Copyright violations

I'm not sure why you haven't been informed but I see from the history of the Marshall of Cambridge article that most of what you added has been expunged as copyright violation. You must not copy or close paraphrase external sources. See WP:COPYRIGHT. This is a serious matter and, if repeated, could well lead to your right to edit being removed. I am not sure what was flagged as a copyright violation, or what has been removed, but from my perspective, the Marshall of Cambridge page is identical to the version I have written on a Word document on my computer - so nothing I added appears to been expunged. Yes, there was a portion of the Marshall Fleet Solutions section that appeared to be lifted directly from their website. I removed it and applied for revdel. I don't recall exactly what from the website was copied, though, but it doesn't appear to have been re-added. Bensci54 (talk) 20:26, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

There was a string of six (technical) words sourced from a different news website (referenced as the source) - the wording of which had originated from a Marshall Fleet Solutions' press release (and which also featured on the Fleet Solutions website). Legally, press releases are free of any intellectual property claims; this principle has been confirmed in both the US and UK. So am I not sure why this a) merited a copyright violation notice and b) if you don't accept the legal arguments in this case, why was the whole history of edits expunged for a few problematic words? I am new to Wikipedia - but that felt like a disproportionate response - and one that discourages people from making contributions. MardiGrasCantab (talk) 12:11, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
