Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ramesh Chindia cover.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ramesh Chindia cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Old Dunelmians[edit]

Hi, You added to the list of Old Dunelmians, thanks for this. I have, however, undone the addition since you didn't reference it. I have done a lot of work referencing the alumni and it makes matters worse if people add unreferenced entries. If you could reference the addition perhaps? Thanks, --Teach46 (talk) 16:50, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reference that you put on my talk page, I've reverted my deletion and added the ref. You're right about many of the entries not being referenced, there are something like 45 of the entries referenced. However, before I started a programme of referencing the list there were zero. When I asked for the Durham School article to be assessed for quality one of the reasons why it was only C class was because the alumni list was unreferenced which is why I am keen that we improve the situation not make it worse.

Thanks again, --Teach46 (talk) 12:07, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Jairam Ramesh[edit]

I double checked and the removal was correct, it was only expanded 2.5x. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 15:10, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK calculates solely prose, not the entire article. So, before expansion started, there were 3079 characters of prose. Now the article is 11kb of prose, nearly a 4x expansion (so not a 2.5x as it was written earlier). It's closer to the requirement, but it's not quite there still, and seeing that the 28th has long been cleared, it's not going to be placed back up. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 16:19, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see now, you counted the large number of quotes. You can ask for a third opinion on the DYK talk page, but at this point I can't guarantee it getting promoted even if it is accepted. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 20:17, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you remove the tags now, since the merge has been completed? It is not a good idea to use the tags for long when the article is being featured on Main Page. --BorgQueen (talk) 21:27, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, you are using two tags that conflict each other: one tag saying "You are welcome to assist in its construction by editing it as well." and the other "do not edit". You can use only one of them at a time. I removed one of them. --BorgQueen (talk) 21:36, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CSS Shenandoah[edit]

Please discuss your edits instead of instantly putting them back in violation of this policy WP:BRD. It is the general consensus of WP:SHIPS that an entire list of a ship's crew is not notable or allowable for inclusion in an article on the ship. Please discuss this at WT:SHIPS. -MBK004 01:51, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you add it back in again in a slightly different arrangement? You know that this addition has been challenged, yet to willingly put it back in again. I'm beginning to think you are not editing in good faith and have no desire to comply with our policies and guidelines for ship articles. Again, please discuss this or you risk being blocked for edit warring and refusal to discuss your edits. -MBK004 03:23, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We make a few exceptions, one of which is for Titanic, another is for when we can ascertain that the majority of the commanding officers of a vessel are notable for things other than commanding the vessel (i.e. their latter career's achievements). As to where the consensus is, I know it is in the archives of WT:SHIPS, but I am unable to find it at the moment, I suggest you start a new discussion topic on the matter to gather the most up-to-date consensus of the project members. As to BRD, you were bold, I reverted, discussion was placed in your court via my talk page message to you, which you did not take heed of at first. As to the policies and guidelines: WP:NC-SHIPS and Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Guidelines. Also, there is a clause in the MOS which states that we should avoid lists as much as possible within articles and integrate that content into the prose of the article itself. As to notability, frankly, we all assume that the family would think that, but there is a certain standard of notability which is laid out at WP:MILPEOPLE for military people in a sub-page of the MOS. -MBK004 04:16, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as petty. You've done a great job with the article and serve the credit but if I tried to expand it further on what you've done I can't! Thanks for the expansion. Excellent work. I would rather than we had detailed articles on every Burma article, short stubss are intended as a start towards something better. Thamanthi[edit]

Thanks for the greetings. I did send you some messages some months back but you had probably taken a break from wiki. Glad to revive old assoication on wiki. In fact, I saw the Tamanthi dam site on the Chindwin River in 1973 as part of a bidding process for the project report preparation. I know NHPC of India have been involved with this project in the past few years. I will write on this in course of time as I am presently busy with 15 articles on monasteries in Tibet with Dr. Blofeld. In fact, my present consultancy work is only on Hydropower development. I have also written a few DYKs on PAs recently. Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary is right now on DYK for review. We will be in touch. Regards--Nvvchar (talk) 12:31, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

infoboxes in Yeywa Dam and others[edit]

Hi Marcus334, it looks like you are doing great work in Yeywa Dam and several articles in sandboxes in your userspace. I notice that the articles have used embedded template:infobox nrhp NRHP infoboxes within other infoboxes, perhaps to get a nice map display. However, the fact that these sites are not United States places listed in the NRHP (National Register of Historic Places) causes them to show up in a WikiProject NRHP cleanup category and other U.S. categories. So, I wonder if you could use template:infobox historic site or another infobox for the same purpose. The embedding feature and mapping aspects for both the NRHP and Historic Sites infoboxes have been programmed by User:Dudemanfellabra, so i think they work similarly, and I think also that Dudemanfellabra would be able to help you if have any questions about making transition. Hope you don't mind if I change from NRHP to Historic Site in each of the articles. Again, nice work! --doncram (talk) 00:15, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article G. D. Agrawal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Copyright violation; my computer cannot access blogs so unable to ascertain whether it's completely copyvio. Looks very well written, for sure.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SS(Kay) 07:31, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I will try to read the article on dams that you have cited but tanks in Tamil Nadu has been written about a good deal. May be some day soon I will start a big article on Tanks in India. As regards Makara, I will collect some book references on google books and add text. It needs more references to be cited. Thanks for remembering me. Cheers. --Nvvchar. 12:38, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Mary Irene Curzon.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Mary Irene Curzon.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:18, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have done a bit of editing as desired by you. I have shifted external references to the end. Some of the maps are dead links, which you may like to delete. You have quoted R. Soundarajan extensively but the reference is not properly refeenced either under references or under external links. --Nvvchar. 10:45, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the additional inputs to Idamalayar Dam. Do you want me to mention that the reference 4 used in the above artcile is correctly referenced first and then by page numbers wherever the same reference is quoted.--Nvvchar. 14:51, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mahavriksha Puraskar[edit]

Thanks for the greetings. I was born in 1939 and I completed 72. I had not heard about the Puraskar. I will see if I can add some more text in the next day or two. One small comment. Probably, you could avoid giving the proforma for the award.--Nvvchar. 11:08, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

However, I also suggest one small change in the format for creating articles in your User Page so that every contributor who contributes to the article is recognised in the history when the article is moved to the mainspace. We have been adopting this procedure for the last few months and after we finish our inputs one of the authors request an administrator to move it to main space from the user page. You may consider starting one for the Mahavriksha Puraskar article in this format User:Marcus334/Mahavriksha Puraskar.--Nvvchar. 13:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have added some text. I tried to find sources on the evaluation report of each species but could not find any except on Kannimaram. May be you could get it from some of your friends in India! This information would further add weight to the article with information about the species. I hope there is no hurry to post it on DYK.--Nvvchar. 03:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Marcus, I was doing some "fine tuning" of the article but noticed most of the information you added was copied near word-for-word from their respective sources. They were all copyrighted and I had to remove the information while salvaging some of it. I see you aren't new to Wikipedia, but copyright violations, not surprisingly, are prohibited. Take some time to read over the copy and paste info page and the one on close paraphrasing. If you have any questions let me know. I also highly suggest you consider whether you did this with past articles and clean those up if need be. By using much similar wording as the articles, it also injects the source's bias into the article. I understand you care about those that are affected by dams but articles need to remain neutral.--NortyNort (Holla) 02:52, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Top Station.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Top Station.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 05:52, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marcus334! Just wanted to see what's going on with User:Marcus334/Lists of Environmental Organizations and Resource Persons in Tamil Nadu. There was originally a consensus to delete this article back in 2009 ([Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Directory of Environmental Organizations and Resource Persons in Tamil Nadu]]. It was userfied at your request so that it could be improved, but nothing has really changed since that happened. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:21, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Tigerreservesmap2011.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip (e.g. a Word document or PDF file) that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:

Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.

Notice

The article Sairandhri has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article is full of original research. No reliable sources provided despite being asked since 2012. Two citations provided are one is a mail group and other one was a (now nonexistent) self-published photography site. Both are unreliable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 99v (talk) 05:58, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
