Wikipedia user pages[edit]

Your user page says "This page was created to share knowledge and comments from articles and collections during a course of Technology Strategies and Strategic Technology". However, this is not the purpose for which Wikipedia User pages exist. You can read in detail about what user pages are for in the user page guidelines, but the essential points here are "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a general hosting service, so your user page is not a personal website. Your user page is about you as a Wikipedian, and pages in your user space should be used as part of your efforts to contribute to the project". Much the same point is made in the policy on what Wikipedia is not, which says, amongst other relevant things, "Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia.".

You are, of course, welcome to contribute to the development of Wikipedia, and if you do so you are welcome to use your user page in the course of doing so, but you should not use your user page to share information not related to working on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions about this please feel welcome to contact me on my talk page. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:50, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
