Hi[edit]

Thanks for your recent additions relating to the Gambino crime family. Though, I don't think the page you created Lorenzo Mannino merits its own article. I think it should act as a WP:REDIRECT to the Gambino crime family until his page can be expanded. You can also make use of your WP:SANDBOX for these edits at User:Magil8216/sandbox. Hmm, ok. Wikipedia seems to have zillions of pages about obscure sports teams, but the head of a US crime family doesn't merit a page? I have no idea how to use this editor either, why isn't source mode available, can I enable it? What is all the obscure markup for? I'm very confused, I think maybe best if I give up on editing wikipedia, it seems a rather hostile environment. Maybe if the user interface could be improved. Is this a message or what?Magil8216 (talk) 15:29, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Does he have significant coverage though? Do these sources just mention him in passing? Do they actually state that he took over Cali and is the new boss? I don't think you should give up, just become more familiar with our policies and you will be fine. Check out some of the links above. The sandbox is for test editing and editing over time before actually publishing an article live. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:52, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The "The US World Herald" says he took over, although I admit I have no idea what that site is and whether it's reliable. It looks vaguely ok to me. ( I accidentally left that cite out initially ).Magil8216 (talk) 15:59, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The claimed "expert" is Jerry Capeci Magil8216 (talk) 16:23, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
With regard to "significant coverage", the guidelines are vague, but I suggest that although there is not a lot of coverage, that is balanced by the coverage occurring over a long period of time, and Mannino being the alleged head of a very significant crime family. Certainly the US mafia has received very extensive media coverage over many decades, and Mannino is now a very significant person within this widely covered subject area. He is already referenced in several wikipedia articles, and it's useful to readers to have information about Mannino in one place ( even if not a great deal is known for sure ), which is partly why I created the article. Without the article, he is just a name, and information about his status is relatively hard to discover. A gauge of interest in the subject may be the "share count" of the US Word Herald Article ( 19.9k shares). Magil8216 (talk) 18:27, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still not convinced he needs his own article to write one or two sentences of info, but it definitely has the potential to be expanded as time goes on. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 19:07, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's now up to about 8 sentences. As a reader of wikipedia I find it helpful to be able to quickly find what IS known on a person such as Mannino. It's true, there isn't a whole amount known, but considering the importance of the Gambino family historically, I find even that useful, as it places Mannino in context with earlier Mafia figures about whom more is known. Perhaps the article could state explicitly that little is known about Mannino's early years (assuming that's true). I don't know quite what advantage WP:REDIRECT would offer compared to the current article, I have seen one other example of this , and it didn't seem very helpful to readers for a person.Magil8216 (talk) 14:42, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The page looks better, thanks for expanding. Happy editing. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:51, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
