Hi, I'm sorry I'm not sure how to start a new thread. I have a problem : I just received a notification about someone on this IP ADRESS having vandalized a page of a school in my city. Now I haven't an account and didn't know that it was possible for me to edit pages on Wikipedia. So I'm confused, firstly is this possible that another person with acess to this IP ADRESS having done it? Or is it people who only have acess to this particular device? I'm quite a newbie on tech so please help me out. Will it be a permanent stain on my IP record? Amd what exactly is an IP address? Hello, and I'm sorry if this is a little confusing. I think the issue here is that your IP address is a shared IP. A shared IP means that multiple people share one IP address. In your case, the IP is registered to Emirates Telecommunications Corporation. The warning I gave to the IP address may not apply to you because you didn't make that edit. Your speedy deletion nomination of Underx

I've had to decline your speedy deletion nomination of Underx. Even with the one sentence that the article had when you nominated it for speedy deletion, it still had enough context to determine what the subject of the article was- in this case, it said that the subject is an internet relay chat network. This makes the A1 speedy deletion criterion not applicable in this case, so I had to decline the nomination.--Slon02 (talk) 16:37, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Five

Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteers who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.

Hi LuK3, thanks for helping out at WP:RPP, a quick tip when noting (as a non-admin) that a request has already been fulfilled by an admin we generally use the "Already ... by" templates {{RFPP|ad}}, {{RFPP|ap}}, & {{RFPP|au}}. Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 2451 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?

Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
Are you autoconfirmed?
Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

His conviction was already stated in the 3rd paragraph of the lead. I don't think there is a need to add his conviction to the lead section according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section#Biographies of living persons. -- Luke (Talk) 14:48, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism? I was just adjusting the flags of his opponents. Matyushenko doesn't have a flag, so I put the Belarus one for him. Also André Gusmão is Brazilian, and not american, as indicates the flag on this page. Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.

Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.

I will choose to stay anonymous for this conversation. I know you meant well when you undid my changes but I spent a long time finding current info on Todd Witteles and I thought appropriate to show the screen shot I took from the FBI website and the current info on this person. This is a dangerous person and I thought it totally 100% appropriate to post what I did. Many people I know personally have been scammed and have had their lives ruined by this individual and now he is a fugitive. I thought I would edit his wiki page because I had a good conscience and thought it was the right thing to do to further protect the public and families that have been hurt by the actions of this criminal. I do not think the wiki page should be pushing him out as some sort of hero although I did leave the correct current info about him on the page about his poker career. This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. While it didn't turn out like we hoped, there are a few things to be learned here. First, even those that opposed, praised your work and efforts, only feeling you need more experiences in other areas. While this means a delay in receiving the admin bit, my confidence in you in still complete and absolute. The opposing votes were mainly constructive and sincere, so I don't think anyone could hold any ill-will against anyone who felt a little more time is needed. I want to say thank you to everyone who participated, regardless of their !vote. There is no doubt in my mind that you will make an excellent admin, even if it isn't this week. As I've told you privately, I am still willing and wanting to work with you on the issues they raised. Everyone there discovered what I already knew, that you are a tremendous asset at Wikipedia. Greetings LuK3. I wanted to check in and say hello. I think Dennis has been pretty thorough with his summary; it's all good stuff, and I mostly agree. Dennis, I know you mean well, and so do I. I had a thought when I read the opening sentence; "it didn't turn out like we hoped". I would not advise anyone to ever place hope in the outcome of an RfA. Everyone "hopes" they get the bit at RfA, otherwise, you wouldn't put yourself through the stress of starting the process. Disappointment is part of life and we don't get what we want every time, but we learn from the experience and it makes us stronger. We both did hope he would get the bit, for Wikipedia's sake as well as his own personal growth and life experience. The hope hasn't changed, only the time line. I know it happens Dennis, I've done it. But it's a mistake! It ain't worth the emotional investment. The best approach is to be willing to serve, and as willing to not serve, Heck, if a hopeful is not careful around here, someone will twist that to mean "you want it to bad" and slam you from that angle. First of all, I gladly noticed that you made some changes according to more reliable facts and the purposes of Wikipedia. As I said before, I am the responsible for Mr. Joao Carlos Pereira and I really appreciate your job!

I am really sorry to be doing this, but I still do not agree on the fact that you are mentioning a name of another coach in Joao Carlos Pereira`s page. If you take a look at other coaches sites, they do not mention other coaches (competitors). It is very obvious and clear to me...

I will be glad to put an end to this and stop changing things, but PLEASE stop mentioning another coach.

My two cents: this person, who seems to be some sort of agent/publicist for the manager in question, does not want any other coach to be mentioned in Mr.Pereira's page, even though in this case Pereira and João Resende Alves' career are intimately connected at Servette FC: ALVES started the season, was fired and replaced by PEREIRA, who was also sacked with ALVES taking his place - the user in question is having none of that, and i have already messaged him telling him his approach is 200% wrong.

If you're not already aware, a Request for Comment on the future of the Article Feedback Tool on the English-language Wikipedia is open; any and all comments, regardless of opinion and perspective, are welcome.
Our final round of hand-coding is complete, and the results can be found here; thanks to everyone who took part!
We've made test deployments to the German and French-language projects; if you are aware of any other projects that might like to test out or use the tool, please let me know :).
Developers continue to work on the upgraded version of the feedback page that was discussed during our last office hours session, with a prototype ready for you to play around with in a few weeks.
