Wikiproject Montana[edit]

Hi again...you're keeping busy for sure. I added the Montana WikiProject to the list of projects page here. I started the WikiProject glaciers and have done all the assessments on glacier articles. At some point in the future, assessments of Montana related articles might be a good idea, but there is definitely no hurry. I can set the pages up for that if you wish, then all we will have to do is rate each Montana related article as to whether it is a stub-->featured article.--MONGO 18:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amtrak accessibility[edit]

Hi! Those edits you mentioned were based on data from the Amtrak routes/timetable book -- specifically summer '07. The book can be picked up at most stations.

The book actually has two different types of "accessibility": One is if the entire station/facilities are accessible, the other is if access to only the train/platform is accessible. Yes, the Libby, Montana article needs to be overhauled. Needs a nice history section. A short economy section. The IP address, says Apple, but this person's mother must work for the Chamber of Commerce or their dad must be the mayor or something. Or, they own 5% of W.R. Grace. I don't know which. Carry on. National Historic Landmarks in Montana[edit]

Hi -- I liked how you developed the article on Chief Plenty Coups (Alek-Chea-Ahoosh) State Park and Home, using the NHL Nomination text that you found. It's the first article in a long time that I have come across that had used that source, while such is available for most NHL sites. FYI, I added more to the article, including a link to the photo set that accompanied the NHL nomination, which you had not found. I have been adding similar texts and photo set links to other articles covered in List of National Historic Landmarks in Montana, but I have not been doing the kind of article editing that you did so well in this article. Feel free to develop those other articles more, if you are interested in Montana sites; most of them need it. FYI, I have some notes on finding NHL documents and other resources for NHL sites, generally, at [User:Doncram/Recipe]. I reverted your edits to Colstrip Montana. I grew up in Colstrip and put the external links there for a reason - it is difficult to find good information online for Colstrip. I reverted your image edits. The text describing Castle Rock Lake goes with the picture. There is nothring wrong with the larger picture of the lake at the bottom of the wiki page, other locations have done similar - see the page for Stanford University... The image of the Colstrip sign belongs at the front (start) of the page - this is the City of Colstrip's sign. Also the links for the Gazeteer and U.S. census that you have added are not specific to Colstrip when you follow them, so I have removed them. Skinner Building[edit]

I see you knocked off the Ned Skinner reference on the 5th Avenue theatre and have edited the Skinner article itself. The historylink.org on the Skinner article has the reference to his ownership. I agree the wording sort of stretches credibility given the age of the building and Skinner's birth in 1920. A way to work around it would be something to the effect "named for the Skinner ship building family which included Ned Skinner who was an active patron of the theatre." Reed and Stem[edit]

I noticed you created Reed and Stem and mentioned that they built Wulling Hall at the University of Minnesota. I did a little more checking, and it looks like they've built some other buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places besides the ones you mentioned in your article:

Livingston Depot in Livingston, Montana -- I think this is a contributing property to the Livingston, Montana Commercial District, though we don't have an article on that
Fort Yellowstone
Morris Park Station in The Bronx; I'm not sure if this is part of Morris Park (IRT Dyre Avenue Line) or not
Northern Pacific Railway depots in Bismarck, North Dakota and Ellensburg, Washington

It also looks like here in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, they built several houses and other buildings that are contributing properties to Lowertown. They also built the Saint Paul Hotel which is pretty ritzy, but not listed on the National Register.

Yup, created Reed and Stem. From what I've read they designed more than 100 railway buildings. The list of buildings could become extensive. Not having an article for them has been an annoyance for a long time--and became overwhelming recently when I noticed someone made the assertion in an article that a historic plaque at King Street Station in Seattle had miss-spelled the name Reed and "Stern" as Reed and Stem. --Ltvine | Talk 06:18, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a member of WikiProject Montana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Montana State University - Bozeman, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

The University of Washington Research Commons, Cascadia Wikimedians, iArts, & iQueeries will jointly host an Art+Feminism event in March at the Research Commons.

Join us for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism! Our focus is on improving Wikipedia's representation of North American Indigenous art, Indigenous womxn artists, and Indigenous feminism.

We will provide tutorials for beginner Wikipedians, childcare, refreshments, and live streaming for those unable to attend.

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Despite its wide reach, content on Wikipedia suffers from the bias of its editors: white, technically inclined, English-speaking men that live in developed, majority-Christian countries. This represents an alarming absence of voices in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

In an effort to change this, the Jake is organizing a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Saturday, May 6th, 1 - 5 pm. Our mission is to bring together diverse communities to participate in Wikipedia editing, and improve its coverage of queer people and women of color in the arts.

We will provide childcare, snacks, and tutorials for the beginner editor.

Bring your laptop, power-cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. No previous Wikipedia experience required!

Hello, Ltvine. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Wikipedia is one of the most wide-reaching repositories of shared knowledge, yet a 2011 survey found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female, suggesting an alarming absence of voices. What and how information is shared is skewed by this gender disparity. To help change this, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery is organizing a quarterly series of Edit-a-thons to improve Wikipedia's coverage of womxn artists of color.

This Saturday afternoon's gathering will focus on creating, editing, updating, and expanding pages for womxn artists from Latin America and the Caribbean. The Edit-a-thon will feature a talk by Dan Paz, Lecturer in the UW School of Art + Art History + Design, an artist, and an educator who explores the labor of digital imaging production as a collaborative site where the intersections of the image-idea and lived experience are produced and contested. Through videos, photography, and sculptural projects that query the ability of documentary processes to be manipulated—to be multiplied and replicated, stopped and started, rewound and advanced—Dan works within the impossibilities of absolute replication to question the very ability of the image to truly represent.

Everyone is welcome. Access to UW WiFi will be provided for non-UW affiliated participants. All you need to bring is your laptop, power cord, and ideas. No previous Wikipedia experience required! Wikipedia Day 2019 — curating images from Asahel Curtis and older Seattle photos[edit]

Wikipedia Day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Wikipedia. This year in Seattle, Cascadia Wikimedians' celebration of Wikipedia Day will focus on a different closely related project: Wikimedia Commons, which (among other things) functions as the media repository for Wikipedia. When you see a photo or map in Wikipedia, or hear an audio clip, etc., it usually is hosted on Wikimedia Commons and "transcluded" into Wikipedia.

Wikimedia Commons is a mix of users' own works and curated third-party content, either public domain or free-licensed. Our event is a hands-on workshop in curating third-party content, mostly early 20th-century photos of Seattle and other West Coast locations.

Currently, Wikimedia Commons has two intersecting sets of older photos, one from the Asahel Curtis Photo Company and the other a more general set of Seattle images. At this meetup, we will celebrate the 18th anniversary of Wikipedia by further curating these images by the creation and addition of categories, adding ImageNotes where useful, linking other versions of the same photo, enhancing the descriptions, and identifying and correcting errors. User:Jmabel has already categorized over 1000 images and corrected several hundred wrong dates, misidentified buildings, and etc., but there is much more to be done.

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women.
