Uploading images[edit]

Yes, that is the correct link for uploading images. However, you have to wait a few days until you are considered an established user. This takes around 5 days from your first edit, and you need to have I think more than 10 edits. Until then, be sure to read the Wikipedia:Image use policy if you have not already. Generally if you find a picture on Google Images and upload it, it will be deleted. The vast majority of images located through the internet are copyrighted, and generally Wikipedia does not accepted copyrighted works (see the use policy). Images that are generally not copyrighted are those "published" (not taken/created) before 1923 or images created by the U.S. federal government (not state). Hopefully this helps. With your latest question, it is maybe. First, the fact that they are press packet photos doesn't really matter, unless you can find somewhere that the copyright owner has released the photos into the public domain. That aside, regarding fair use, generally, Wikipedia does not allow fair use images of living people. The thought is that if the person is alive, someone can go take their picture still, thus the copyrighted work is replaceable. The exceptions have to do with showing people in specific, important instances. For example a copyrighted image of George Clooney on the set of ER circa 1995 might pass, as that would be nearly impossible to replicate, and ER was a major point in his career (this would then have to also be discussed in the article). But using that image just to demostrate what Clooney looks like would not work. In general see Wikipedia:Non-free content. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Olivia and Natalia Forge a Friendship Possible Deletion[edit]

So the article is about two women as a couple on a television show. The storyline summary provides a written account, but by it's very nature, television is supposed to visually convey information. So, I would like a television picture from the show in each section. The storyline section in which the above described screenshot is found describes these two women having tough times and the two women being there for each other as friends. Though the screenshot is of the faces of the two women, it is a different type of screenshot which contrasts with the first photograph. In the first photogragh, they are both looking away into the distance and smiling. In this screenshot, they are not smiling. Olivia has a concentrated look on her face which conveys great concern for her friend. Natalia is visibly upset. There are different emotions being conveyed by these women in this screenshot and it contrasts with the first photograph. It also shows a specific moment from the storyline summary. Would a differnt description tag, one that ties in with the storyline, help with the fair use rationale?

The issue always with non-free images is that, unless the text talks about the image, most images are deemed to fail the significance criteria. Also, if the image could be described in text, without significantly decreasing reader's understanding, then it will fail the replaceability criteria. Though I appreciate that the sections may look better with more imagery, the non-free content system is designed to exclude all but a very limited range of non-free images. All 10 of the non-free content criteria must be met and often, with multiple shots of a TV show, it is deemed that this is excessive use. What would be best is to find critical, independent commentary about a particular scene. Without such commentary it is hard to argue that the image is significant, as reliable sources have not stated it as such - Peripitus (Talk) 12:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Your" Olivia Spencer and Natalia Rivera Aitoro article[edit]

I've somewhat fixed up that article for you. It had the type of formatting and wording discouraged by Wikipedia, such as weasel wording.

Looking at supercouple articles such as Bianca Montgomery and Maggie Stone, or even another fictional lesbian couple article, like Reese Williams and Bianca Montgomery, should help you improve the article further.

Just remember that you should not have any contractions (such as isn't or she'll), unless it's within a quote. Make sure that the punctuation complies with Wikipedia's rule about "logical quotation." Plus, you need to cut down on the plot section a little bit...due to WP:PLOT. Or transform the plot section into out-of-universe form, like the Pauline Fowler article, if you want to keep all that.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I put "your" in quotation marks in the title of this section...it's just to show that I'm aware of the Wikipedia policy WP:OWN.

I didn't see where they are called a supercouple in that Eclipse reference. Thus, I removed that part from the lead (intro) of the article. If I'm mistaken, though, then put it back in, or find a valid source who has titled them a supercouple. I would suggest mention of them being a supercouple being placed at the end of the lead, though, where it should state that they have been called a supercouple, like I did before removing it, since them being a supercouple already is cause for skepticism from many fans of the show and since they are not currently listed on the List of fictional supercouples as a supercouple. Response to Non-Free Use File: Natalia fights to keep Olivia alive.jpg[edit]

In my opinion, this File:Natalia fights to keep Olivia alive.jpg does meet the criteria in question and listed below.

Criterion 3a, because multiple non-free images are being used when one would suffice

Criterion 8, because the image does not significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would not be detrimental to that understanding.

In my opinion, Criterion 3a is met in this article because the one photograph is not sufficient. The first photograph represents the couple Olivia Spencer and Natalia Rivera Aitoro in an abstract sense. Together but not interacting. It is in the article to show the two women as a couple but nothing more is conveyed by the photograph. It is a sufficient photograph for the introduction of the article but does not convey the more concrete aspects of the couple. One photograph is not sufficient to increase the reader's understanding of the couple discussed in the article because the unique aspect of this couple is their progression from mutual hatred to romantic love. Therefore, there needs to be more than one photograph to convey the development of this couple.

The photograph in question, File:Natalia fights to keep Olivia alive.jpg, provides a concrete representation of the couple in their phase of mutual hatred. The looks on their faces are in great contrast to the first photograph; they are expressing hatred in the photograph in question. Alos, the photograph is critcal to the readers' understanding because without Natalia fighting to keep Olivia alive, there would be no couple for this article to discuss. The photograph allows the reader to understand how sick Olivia is, the position Natalia is in to keep Olivia alive, and the hatred between them. Considering that the topic of the article is that they overcome their mutual hatred and become a romantic couple because Natalia first fought to keep a despondent Olivia alive, then this photograph significantly increases the readers' understanding of the topic. Thus, in my opinion, this photograph does meet Criterion 8 because it significantly increases the readers' understanding of the topic and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

To help convey the situation better, I propose putting in the tag: A bitter Natalia helps to keep a despondent Olivia alive.

Correct formatting for uploading images[edit]

Hey, to upload fair-use images correctly, especially for fictional characters and television shows, take a look at the way the information for the image File:Version 2 of JR and Babe.jpg is formatted.

Of course, depending on what type of image it is, you'll put different information and different licensing. But this example should give you a pretty good idea of what to do in that regard.
