Six edits in the month of October--sorry, but in a writing class that won't do. I moved the tuner article into mainspace after cleaning it up a bit, so you have that, but right now that's all. Hi! I saw your DYK nomination and wanted to ping your instructor, Dr Aaij. I do have some notes:
- Some parts of the article comes across as editorializing, such as the statement "despite the outlandish undertones". This is a personal statement and will be very subjective to the reader, as some may see it as outlandish while others may not. There's an overall issue with tone in the article that really needs to be dealt with - it doesn't really read as neutral.
- I'd leave out the name of the persons who destroyed the trees. The vandalism is worth mentioning, but generally the names of the perpetrators aren't really necessary per WP:BLPNAME. Essentially, since these individuals are really only known for their own single events and would be considered, at least as far as Wikipedia is concerned, low profile individuals. It poses an issue of privacy as well, since there's a question of whether or not these individuals would receive any harm for being mentioned in the articles. (There's also a good argument to make that naming them in the article would really only serve to perpetuate any feelings of martyrdom or infamy that they may want to cultivate, so not naming them also kind of robs them of this - although this isn't a policy based argument per se.)
- I've actually re-written these sections into a single section on vandalism since I'm concerned that it could pose a potential issue.
- This has several run-on sentences that need to be edited for flow. Here's one example:
- Toomer sold his pharmacy 1952 to a family outside of his own and nearly a decade after the pharmacy's purchase Auburn fans and students began to celebrate away games in 1962 by rolling the power lines outside of the pharmacy and the trees directly opposite, creating one of the oldest American football traditions there is.
- This should be split into two sentences. I'd also either name the family or just mention that Toomer sold his pharmacy, as it would generally be assumed that the sale would be to someone unrelated. Also, be careful of repetition as far as names go - this isn't a huge issue, but it's something to watch out for in general when it comes to writing. I've fixed this sentence for you in the article and it now reads like this:
- The pharmacy was later sold in 1952 by Toomer to Mac and Elizabeth Lipscomb, who chose against renaming the pharmacy. In 1962 Auburn fans and students began to celebrate away games by rolling the power lines outside of the pharmacy and the trees directly opposite.
- Google map results like this are not reliable sources and I'd recommend that you use something like the official website or a secondary reliable source since Google results aren't always accurate. In this situation you were using it to back up the claim that the pharmacy and bank are landmarks. They're on the map, but so are a lot of other buildings and features that aren't necessarily landmarks. Also be careful of sourcing like this since it's seen as a self-published source and as such, we can't really verify what type of editorial oversight they use. There's also an issue in that the site is set up to sell the reader something, which is problematic in and of itself.
- This could generally use more coverage as a whole - it's notable, but right now the bulk of the coverage deals with the trees and you need more that specifically cover Toomer's Corner.
