Thanks for your help![edit]

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to TeXify the equations on the nondimensionalization, and the creation and annihilation operators page. I'll take a look at the links you gave me, and hopefully will become proficient enough to write the math equations out nicely! HappyCamper 01:07, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

WikiReader[edit]

Firstly, thanks very much for showing an interest in the project! I, similarly not an historian, considered that the vast resources of wikipedia could probably put together a comprehensive textbook, though you are the first respondent of any kind I've got! I will certainly stick your suggestions on the page, and any other thoughts you have, please feel free to put them there.

I am in the middle of exam season at the moment, so I'll have very little time to do anything over the next couple of months. I think the WikiReader Projects hold great potential for raising the profile of all things wiki, much like the recent German DVD release was reported and rose to bestseller on amazon.de Ta for your input, --Mark Lewis 10:47, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Physics[edit]

Physics has always been an interest of mine but I am unsure how one can apply it in real life, careerwise. I was wondering if you could suggest some possible options, seeing as you have already graduated from college. Thank you --Vincent Gray 01:56, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Laura, please don't move articles back in. Instead, I suggest creating a nice introductory article that introduces a number of topics at once. I've moved almost 200 articles out of this category, I want to have a core of 20 or 30 left. Between the category leaders, and the remaining articles, there's about a hundred links that will remain. Adding things back to the general category doesn't help in any way. Things like Zeeman effect don't qualify. Its one of hundreds of topics that undergrads will learn about ... moon tides due to gravitational potential wells are just as interesting (and the physics of which are similar to zeeman effect) ...but that's not listed. Instead, focus on improving a few articles that are category leaders, such as atomic physics which currently pretty much sucks as an intro to that topic. linas 17:23, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes, I'm thinking that we need a Category:Introductory physics for things like potential well. I ran across a number of topics that are taught to undergrads as "general concepts" (such as potential well), but don't have legs, don't go anywhere; aren't talked about as a topic of current physics research. ("Oh, what do you do? I study potential wells") ("Did you see the new book by Wolfram on potential wells?") I found it hard to figure out wha to do with some of these topics linas 17:39, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, apearent weight was one of those that were painful to categorize. Care to create the Category:Introductory physics? Or can you think of a better name? "Elementary physics" nahh .. "Basic physics" Hmm Basic physics could work ... linas 17:51, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Covariant, et al,[edit]

Hi Laura,

Please feel free to join the party at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mathematics. I think I agree with you, the current structuring is a mess. But I didn't bring this up, and I don't want to do the work myself. Only one tiny bit of practical advice: *first*, merge all the articles into one. Get that one article to work. Then, because it will end up being too big, split it out into pieces. Then it will be clear what the pieces should be, and whether or not we actually need distinct articles on covariant and contravariant vectors, or tensors, or whatever. linas 07:07, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To Do[edit]

Hi Laura,

I've looked over the articles in your to do list. I plan to work on some of them if that's alright. I also noticed you have Einstein model on the list, I assume you are referring to Einstein model of the solid? If so, then I have written that article some time ago. Check it out -- Einstein solid.

Thanks for the phonon polarization language, my undergraduate degree is in optics -- completely forgot to explain where the mysterious 3 comes from.

Max Planck[edit]

Hi, thanks for your nice work on translating my German article on Max Planck. I did some minor corrections and changes. I will by and by try to continue the translation, or maybe we can do it jointly somehow. Nullstein 15:38, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Regarding other's name-calling on talk:feces[edit]

SlimVirgin has said she will ignore the results of an IP check, and she has said she will unilaterally ban me from editing the article for being 'disruptive'. Please see the bottom of the page for her OWN words.

And, nobody will do an IP check. My name is being smeared and I'm being denied due process. Eyeon 11:55, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Galveston Hurricane of 1900[edit]

The file Media:Galveston hurricane of 1900.ogg appears to be corrupt. At least, I can't get it to play, and other spoken articles work for me. -- Cyrius| 14:27, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Whatever you did seems to have worked. I'm not actually going to listen to the whole thing. It was weird enough seeing the article translated into German, I don't think I could take hearing someone else reading the whole thing. -- Cyrius| 23:37, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

texas rangers refs[edit]

LOL. thanks! i noticed the things were flipped, but had written it off to changes in the template; i'd seen them arguing about what symbols to use, whatever. ha. appreciate the fix and the note. now i need to flip them all in the bonnie and clyde page. what an idiot!

yeah, the refs on the texas rangers page were meant to be mostly general, i guess, though one might be able to find logical points to put them. they were the refs i used, but i don't think it makes much sense to assign them to one fact. any suggestions, please let me know. thanks. SaltyPig 02:08, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

just got around to really looking into the ref/note system (via the link you provided -- which i'd seen before but just skimmed). probably not going to use it anymore. i think it's a disincentive to providing references, and a system that won't be around much longer. if it's your preference, please don't hesitate to zap those tags entirely in the texas ranger refs. Galveston Hurricane[edit]

Hey, I wanted to let you know that I just finished listening to your recording of Galveston Hurricane of 1900, and I think you did a fantastic job. Contrary to what you wrote on User talk:Cyrius, I think you have a great voice for this sort of thing =). --Spangineer (háblame) 18:14, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Fantastic recording. Thanks. I'm listening to the 75 most recent spoken articles (currently 439 MB) and it's nice to hear an expressive female voice in the mix. DanielHolth 29 June 2005 06:45 (UTC)

I'd like to "third" the above sentiments. Nice reading. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) July 5, 2005 14:55 (UTC)

Eightfold way[edit]

Hi, I'm translating your article in to the italian version of Wikipedia. I ask to you the permission to edit your images on my translation. Could I? Thanks. Huatulco 18:55, Jul 02, 2005 (CEST).

Feel free to use and edit them as much as you want! That's what the GFDL is all about. If you use LaTeX I've left the source code I used on the image talk pages. Make sure to add an interlanguage link on eightfold way (physics). --Laura Scudder | Talk 2 July 2005 23:32 (UTC)

Pics on San Antonio Texas[edit]

Hi. I just finished uploading 6 or 7 pics onto the San Antonio, Texas page tonight after receiving permission to upload and display them on wikipedia. Im not sure what tag to put on them though.--Zereshk 6 July 2005 23:56 (UTC)

Are you sure that you know what you're getting yourself into here? If so, I respect your courage (but doubt your sanity). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 8 July 2005 08:05 (UTC)

Private negotiations[edit]

The private negotiations were really aimed towards being able to get them to a point where they could discuss the a compromise civily on Talk:Texas rather than actually decide one. I tried to accomplish this through encouraging mutual apologies and discussion of possible compromises. There is no compromise, per se, that has been agreed on, only ideas I threw out to them for getting feedback as to what might be acceptable to them. My intention always was/is to get them to remove the uncivil diatribe and replace it with a more civil conversation (with an understanding of what each of them would and would not agree to, hopefully avoiding another flare up). Any policy proposal will be posted on Talk:Texas. -JCarriker 04:47, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

Herbil the Gerbil Hermann the German[edit]

The article says it's the local name. Do you know if he/it has a different official name? — Sebastian (talk) 05:20, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

I've never lived anywhere near the monument, but simply always heard Herman the German as an alternate name for Arminius. This says the official name is Herman monument though. --05:26, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll put that in the article. — Sebastian (talk) 05:40, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
