Thank you!

Hi there! Just wanted to drop a quick note and say "thanks very much" for your support in my current, successful RfA. I'm thrilled with the support I received, and humbled as well. I'll be using the tools with care and for the benefit of the encyclopedia. Thanks again! Tony Fox (arf!) 06:13, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

RfA Thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which closed successfully with 44 support, 4 oppose, and 3 neutral. I will work hard to improve the encyclopedia with my new editing tools (and don't worry, I'll be careful).

"Superstition"

Hi. I believe your comment on the talkpage for Muhammed referring to "superstition" was uncalled for. I agree that the images should definitely stay, but most of those who have called for the removal of the images have done so in a respectful and polite manner, and to belittle their beliefs in such a way probably only serves to inflame an unfortunate situation.

I know that the constant flow of petitioners can get aggrivating, but please, try to keep your cool =). Lankiveil (talk) 02:22, 26 December 2007 (UTC).

I didn't mean to imply anything disrespectful by it. English is not my first language, but from what I understand, the word applies here. Please note the rest of my comment includes a link to a wiki site similarly indoctrinated readers may find less offensive to their beliefs. --NEMT (talk) 02:27, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Isis Balancing Storage

Hi and thanks for closing the AfD. However, you need to remember to remove the AfD template from the article and add {{oldafdfull}} to the talk page. Otherwise, it was a good job. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 10:32, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation in my RfA. I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. For now though, especially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions, I am going to take it slowly -- I'm working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school, double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. I sincerely doubt you'll see anything controversial coming from my new access level. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, though I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. If you do ever have any concerns about my activities as an administrator, I encourage you to let me know. My door is always open. Have a good New Year, --Elonka 21:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Rainhut

So your objections to Rainhut are based on its current notability, not my editing? I'm sure this this will be listed eventually. You should read this book. I'm new to this wiki editing so I hope it's not my fault. It's been a long time since I read a cool sci-fi novel. It's amazing. I also loved the Da Vinci code. It has the same flavor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RainhutFan (talkcontribs) 09:12, 1 January 2008 (UTC) --RainhutFan (talk) 09:18, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

The short twentieth century

Hi. I noticed you replaced the article The short twentieth century, which I created as a part of the process of renaming it from "Short twentieth century", with a redirect to Age of Extremes (as well as at least one redirect page that originally redirected to "Short twentieth century"). I'm wondering if this is really a good idea, as the original article has already existed for nearly three years. I undid your changes. If you still feel the article should be deleted and replaced with a redirect, would you consider opening a discussion on it first, perhaps on the article's talk page? Thank you! --NBahn (talk) 07:12, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Good morning. Your comment in support of Warlordjohncarter's RfA was apparently moved to oppose, due to your use of the Oppose label. I have restored the original comment here, on the assumption that you did indeed intend to support the candidate. If that wasn't your plan, please revert me. I also indented the discussion on the moved comment, if only to prevent another editor from moving it again. Sorry for any confusion, and - incidentally - I got a kick out of your comment. Spot on, that. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 16:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

It was pretty obvious to me, at any rate - but the last time I moved someone's comment, they were less than thrilled, so I try to doublecheck now. I think most people got it, but, meh, what can you do? It looks like a landslide, so of course things will get a little silly, but that's par for the course. Happy to help out. Rudget!

Dear Lankiveil, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 15:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which I withdrew with 5 support, 14 oppose, and 9 neutral. Thank you for your comments! Whether it was a support, oppose, or neutral, I likely got some good feedback from you. I will probably do another RfA in the future, but not until I work out the issues brought up.

How important is discussing some last minute Brisbane '09 Bid changes for you? You're the organiser, right? I think we should work out a date for the meetup, sometime soon. - Zero1328 Talk? 08:13, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't know about "official", but in my eyes you're the primary organiser for Brisbane right now. You arranged most of the bid, after all, and I hope you'll keep up the effort if we manage to get 2009, and lead us a little.
In my own opinion, I think it would be a better use of time to look for any gap in the bid and fill as much as possible, before the 3rd. For example, I can't find any names of the possible sponsors, and I don't see the actual price quotes. Most of the bid's prepared, and doing anything drastic feels a bit foolish now.
Have you seen the Bids for 2007/2008? We have to have reach this level of detail by the 3rd. After that it's final. Only minor information after that. I understand your need to rush, and I'm with you on that. But nothing irrational, ok? - Zero1328 Talk? 13:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey there, I'm writing to inform you that I have withdrawn my request for adminship, which was currently standing at 11 supports, 22 opposes and 6 neutrals. Is there any way that I can get this IP exempted from autoblocking? This is the second time it's happened in a week, and it's getting quite frustrating. Also, the message you get when autoblocked and attempting to do a new page patrol states that I'll be unblocked at {{CURRENTTIME}}, someone should probably look at that. Brisbane bid

I'm not really sure on what kind of input you want me to put in, though.. All I can say is that the bid pages of the previous years are good examples, and that more detail is often appreciated. There's only a few days left before we have to finalise the major info. Oh, and I can understand not letting the competition know about our details too early, but it also means that you're keeping the work all to yourself, so no one can really help you in those areas.. Don't forget that the point of a wiki is to be open to all information. - Zero1328 Talk? 01:27, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Unless you plan on pulling an all nighter, don't forget that today's the last day to put in major information for the bid.. and you're the only one who can do it. - Zero1328 Talk? 21:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Do you think the current Brisbane water shortage could cause problems? I don't think it would be a weakness, but it might raise concern somewhere.. - Zero1328 Talk? 04:26, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

The IRC meeting's in #wikimania in a half hour! Please be there soon. - Zero1328 Talk?

The Alibi Room mentioned for Brisbane meetup #3 seems to be a perfect place for the VIP party. If you have a list it should probably be added. It has great Wi-fi, and can have functions that support around 50 people. - Zero1328 Talk? 08:56, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hm, I didn't really think about it being bohemian, I was just looking at the technical side of it. Wi-fi and food variety is a plus for me. For both VIP and in general, this definitely isn't the place to find Aussie tradition. Still, those two conditions make it suitable for the meetup. - Zero1328 Talk? 11:48, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, that gets me thinking.. The "Aussie BBQ" might be a decent analogy to Wikipedia's structuring.. Everyone mingles with everyone, the dividing lines of social status become blurred and aren't as significant. Everyone brings in some beers or something and it becomes this great gathering. Just my thoughts on it. - Zero1328 Talk? 11:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok, having flunked high school English, seeing you call it poetic was a pretty big surprise for me! This is how I think/write half the time... - Zero1328 Talk? 12:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

On the Q&A page, the reason I didn't mention what was discussed bid-wise and all that was because I don't think it was relevant to the question. They were asking about the people involved, not the bid itself. I don't know what you mean by the BCEC and others pledging "behind-the-scenes support". Initially I thought you were referring to the meetup, which got me a bit confused. Could you either refine or remove that? I believe today/tomorrow is the last time to add stuff to the bid page/Q&A. - Zero1328 Talk? 10:59, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Thomas Ponniah

I just wanted you to see the new article with an entry at WP:AFD, and wondered if you think notability is now established? (Mind meal (talk) 07:12, 13 February 2008 (UTC))

Thanks for the reply. The references are not self-referential in that they are there to demonstrate he has written for Znet and been interviewed by openDemocracy. Being published in academic journals, mind you, is no small feat. According to Wikipedia:PROF, he passes several given examples.

1. An academic who has published a book or books of general interest, a widely used textbook, or non-academic articles in periodicals with significant readership is likely to be notable as an author (see WP:BIO), regardless of their academic achievements. Similarly, an academic involved in significant current events is likely to be notable as a person under the general WP:BIO guidelines.

2. An academic repeatedly quoted in newspapers or newsmagazines may be considered to meet criterion 1. A small number of quotations, especially in local newsmedia, is not unexpected for academics and so falls short of this mark. (For this, he is quoted in multiple books).

Also, I believe him to be a "significant expert in his or her area by independent sources" given the amount of references to his material. That does it. I respect your opinion, but certainly do not agree with it. I'm not easy on notability, but he does pass. (Mind meal (talk) 10:29, 13 February 2008 (UTC))

Visoki napon

Hi! I don't know if I can help you much, but here is what I know. In cyrillic it's written Високи напон, it means High voltage, we on sr.wiki do not have that article (though you might find an article about the TV show with the same name).

About the article... I don't know, but it doesn't look very good to me. I live in Belgrade and hang out on those places (and listen that kind of music), but I haven't heard of them. But then again, I don't follow underground scene very closely. I've asked couple of friends via IM now, and no one was like Yeah, I know them, they're great! (I got one I might have heard of them.. but I'm not sure.) Everything what I just said doesn't have to mean much (I am NOT expert on the field), but if the article appeared on sr.wiki, it would probably end up on AfD. Cheers. -- Obradović Goran (talk 14:41, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

And just to mention, sr.wiki supports multiscript search. If you type Srbija in the search field, you'll get Србија article. And you can set in your preferences (or on each page) to view it in Cyrillic or Latin script. Notice two extra fields to the right (near the move and watch). Not that you'll understand anything when it's in Latin, but it might feel a bit less confusing :) -- Obradović Goran (talk 14:48, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

RFA Card

I can has thankspam?

Instead of putting totals (the hostel, specifically,) I'd suggest putting it in a $/day basis. More information on the Translink fees might be a good idea. There's Weekly, Daily, One-use, Concession, # of zones, and Off-peak(weekends/holidays) for all of the above. I don't know about foreign public transport systems, so maybe there needs to be more explanation for this, maybe on the bid page itself? Or a link to the Translink pages at least. - Zero1328 Talk? 23:22, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

The UQ Library has offered use of their meeting facilities for satellite events, but could you obtain more info on costs and such? Also, the letter is from the Library specifically, not UQ as a whole, just from looking at that letter. Maybe more support can be secured? - Zero1328 Talk? 03:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Eventually, some part of the quote will have to be revealed, for fundraising purposes. At the very least, displaying a total cost, anyway. When do you think it should be put in? - Zero1328 Talk? 05:27, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Not sure if "13.40AUD for a weekly zone-one Translink pass" is accurate, but then I may be wrong as I'm 3 zone concession. Food price is really subjective and this should probably be noted...give more of a range, perhaps. Doesn't WMF work out the conference rego fee, at least to some extent? That's all I can think of now... dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 07:36, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Because of the unpredictability of costs (just look at those Translink tickets!), putting the average estimated cost along with ranges alongside might be better. If putting an average estimate, remember to note what assumptions you're making, like how long they're staying, where, etc. - Zero1328 Talk? 11:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. The supports were wonderful, and I will keep in mind the points made in the useful opposes and try to suppress the Larry David in me! Now I'm off to issue some cool down blocks, just to get my money's worth!

Kidding btw. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:36, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

More Brisbane bid comments

The Brisbane Backpacker's resort seems to be closer to BCEC, and it looks like they handle group bookings up to 200 people, and include meals and transportation to venues. Could you share a proper list of who you've contacted regarding Wikimania via the mailing list or something? Sometimes I feel like I'm left in the dark, and I'm sure having people lend a hand in securing stuff wouldn't hurt. - Zero1328 Talk? 11:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I thought that there wasn't that much left to cover, so I didn't think much of your absence. Oh well, no harm done. I didn't think of that confidentiality issue, but we could probably form a private mailing list, or just send personal emails to offering helpers, hoping they won't rat us out. (No reason to, either...) Also, I've seen a couple indications that these are limited to real backpackers only, in some hostels.. I'm not sure about other hostels, or if they'll overlook that if they want to sponsor us. - Zero1328 Talk? 12:05, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

You said you sent an email or something, right? has Bastique responded at all? Somehow, I'm still holding some sliver of hope that 2009 is still possible... There's gotta be a reason for why we got eliminated like that, instead of normally. - Zero1328 Talk? 10:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Cripes

Javanese Wikipedia - and N - if you want a long and coherent explanation I'd rather do it off line - thanks and cheers SatuSuro 00:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh well, if you wanted - you could march through the Indonesia wiki project, and had the time - you could easily pick off over probably 80+ % of the project with one hand tied behind your back if you were to apply such well reasoned argument. Thanks for putting the energy in, to the explanation - cheers SatuSuro 10:53, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

sorry I have allowed some issues in the way (too many threads only one life) and five puppies arrived today - its off line i go :) SatuSuro 12:56, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

there is a gmail that explains the nub of the issue as well - looking forward when we can solve the problem - i had meant offline to throw the explanation in a email - i seem to be confusing all and sundry this evening - back to tagging categories before the new category bot out does and walks over my manually created chaos :| SatuSuro 13:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Trio of Doom

Hi, I accept that the members of this group were notable in their own right, but I don't think a group with only one live performance warrants its own article. At best, a mention in the article of each member. Regards, WWGB (talk) 10:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Since amazon.com describes this performance as "one for the ages" [3] I'm happy to let it ride. WWGB (talk) 10:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you for your support in my RFA. The passed with a final count of (73/3/1), so I am now an administrator. Please let me know if at any stage you need help, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an admin. Have a nice day! :) Aleta Sing 18:21, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. I was just wondering if you were removing the CSD tag on The Weber Brothers or just didn't reinsert it when the article's creator removed it. I couldn't quite figure it out from the edit summary, but I didn't want to re-add it if you had removed it. JEB90 (talk) 13:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, that was weird. I guess we left each other messages at the same time. I'll AFD it, I suppose. I don't anything about such things, but it looks non-notable to me.JEB90 (talk) 13:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
I poked around a bit and it actually looks like a copy of http://www.weberbrothers.com/enter.html so I G12'd it. I'll try to keep an eye on the tag. JEB90 (talk) 13:54, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure that Paddy Lawlor was a valid CSD A7? I would say that being captain of a GAA club is a fairly significant assertion of notability. Lankiveil (speak to me) 14:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC).

Not a two-bit one like Emo. Feel free to DRV. Stifle (talk) 14:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

A Prune Affair

Ah - I marked it as nonsense because it seemed to be lacking importance...i'm new to Wikipedia. Your edit is much more appropriate :). Appellative (talk) 03:38, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
