Sock

Perhaps next time I report a sock to ANV, you can be a little more understanding of the long term abuse I've suffered and block. Special:Contributions/Papererzop CTJF83 19:35, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

I know BJ is a problem, but you literally presented NO evidence at all. LadyofShalott 19:57, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
WP:DUCK, ya, I know it's an essay (which I always badmouth). Like I said here, you gotta use common sense in these situations, if the user had even 5 or 10 other edits before editing my page or fisting, I wouldn't have reported it right away, would have warned first, because that's not his MO. When the first edit is to a page I've been discussion or my talk page, it's clearly him. CTJF83 20:01, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
That's why SPI would have been appropriate. LadyofShalott 20:10, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
This is why I removed this post, cause you have no compassion. As I already indicated on ANV, SPI takes too long. 22 hours here, meanwhile I'm being bashed that whole time, and most of the time the user is blocked before SPI, due to several warnings, so tell me the point of waiting 22 hours when I can usually wait less than 22 minutes for an admin to block on ANV. CTJF83 20:20, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Ctjf, come on--"you have no compassion"? I can understand you're upset at being the brunt of these ridiculous attacks, but that's unwarranted. The Lady has more compassion in her pinky than I have in my entire body. Drmies (talk) 20:56, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: Scheunemann.joshua

In regard to the AN/I re: User:Scheunemann.joshua, you were wondering who he might be a sock of. I have provided some possible clues at AN/I regarding this. I know you've marked it as resolved, but thought you might be interested. Lhb1239 (talk) 03:16, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Please take a look at the relevant RFC page before responding and be sure that you are willing and able to enter that environment and contribute to making the discussion a calm and productive one focussed on the content issue at hand. See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Suggestions for responding.

Greetings! You have been randomly selected to receive an invitation to participate in the request for comment on Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals). Should you wish to respond to the invitation, your contribution to this discussion will be very much appreciated! However, please note that your input will carry no greater weight than anyone else's: remember that an RFC aims to reach a reasoned consensus position, and is not a vote. In support of that, your contribution should focus on thoughtful evaluation of the issues and available evidence, and provide further relevant evidence if possible.

There are paraphrase/cut&paste/(possible) copyright vios from the keithwease.com website to Franklin Library by [1]. A few are:

  • The books were designed and bound by The Sloves Organization, Ltd., an affiliate of the mint, whose bindery was one of the few in the world devoted exclusively to the crafting of fine leather bookbindings.
  • Its books were designed and bound by The Sloves Organization, Ltd., an affiliate of the Franklin Mint, whose bindery was one of the few in the world devoted exclusively to the crafting of fine leather book bindings.
  • Franklin Library's policy was to contract for the first printing rights with both the author and the mass-market publisher, thus making the Franklin edition the "true" first edition, published prior to the trade edition, adding greatly to the value of these books.
  • It was standard Franklin Library Press practice to contract first with the author, and then with the mass-market publisher, for the printing rights of all "First Edition" titles, thus making a Franklin Library first limited edition a true first edition (published prior to the trade edition).

There is no clear copyright notice on the keithwease.com website, so wasn't quite sure if these issues were reportable, but noticed you had done some editing on the article and thought you would want to know. Shearonink (talk) 07:11, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. If you think the whole (or vast majority) of it is a copyright violation, go ahead and slap a {{db-g12}} on it. Otherwise, it may be a few days before I can devote significant time to investigate it further; it does sound very problematic from what you've presented here. Drmies, have you checked this out? LadyofShalott 03:30, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I saw it, though I didn't investigate in detail. I have no doubt that our editor and the web editor are the same person. But if indeed it is a copyvio, then we should purge the history--and our editor won't have a leg to stand on either. Maybe I can have a look tomorrow. Drmies (talk) 05:44, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Lady (or tps'), you have a little experience with this situation so would you mind looking at this article and the edit-warring going on? If you have to just block all of us for a while, that's fine, but I'm not going anywhere and need more eyes. Roughly, a bunch of IP's and two editors have popped out of nowhere and begun reverting everything related to this article, Ehsan Mehmood Khan and the since-deleted Babar Malik. EWing on the second and third articles have since died down, especially since I decided that I was going to AfD them regardless, but now I'm talking to a couple nonnative-english speaking walls at Sehgal's article. More discussion here and here. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 14:10, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Oop, that reads badly. "not going anywhere" should be "not getting anywhere". Nolelover Talk·Contribs 14:38, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Our house

Ha, notability is not inherited, but Wayne Greenhaw's house was built by Hartley Moon. I need to get my own notability to make this joint famous. We found the old photographs of the colonel and his wife and some letters from family members to the previous occupants (one of whom is possibly also minorly notable, haha)--fascinating stuff. I'll need to beef the colonel's article up, obviously. Did you have a nice Christmas? I got a Kitchen-Aid mixer! Fiery red! Drmies (talk) 16:17, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Drmies, that's very cool. Can you add one of the photos to the article? They must be out of copyright, yes? I had a nice early Christmas celebration, and was able to enjoy Christmas itself despite being sick. The Solstice stunk - I was home sick with "the crud" instead of even attending the choir service in which I was supposed to be singing. Now it's turned into bronchitis and I'm not a happy camper.</whining> What are you making with your very pretty-sounding mixer? You know about my Kindle - I've been having fun finding all kinds of free books I can download from either Amazon or Project Gutenberg. Know any other cool sites I should be using? Did both Santa Klaus and Sinter Klaas visit the girls? How do they differentiate themselves in your household? LadyofShalott 23:53, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict) As a prof, are you not inherently notable? I suddenly realise just how low those standards can be <g> More seriously, User:Doncram might perhaps be the saviour of the WP house but has just been given an enforced leave of absence. The US, btw, had far too many Generals of that period - it makes for very hard work in the Wikipedia context, and surely they should have thought of this at the time? "Custard" is one who had the title in his rank and that I can recall from my childhood, but then I was born deaf and I stand by my Lancashire roots. - Sitush (talk) 00:03, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Regarding article on Abdul Qavi Desnavi & your Remarks

Hi Lady of Shalott, Regarding article on Abdul Qavi Desnavi & your Remarks “Undid revision 468045545 by Bpldxb (talk) No, the edits were not vandalism. Please discuss on the talk page how you disagree with them.” First, I appreciate if anybody give his/her time to improve the quality of Article written by me, Corrections, edits or additions of matter with genuine references is good for the health of Article & I think it is the one of the objective of Wikipedia. Second, I thankful to Mr. Ehsan, who has edited the article & made some technical corrections but at the same time he made lot of mistakes due to unaware of Topic & not able to make difference between Research work, Bibliography & compilation work such as 1. He merged Bibliography under compilation 2. Writing (author critical work) into Bibliography 3. Desnavi was retired in 1990 & was hold mostly honorary positions during service (see in my article, dates mentioned) but Mr. Ehsan edited that after retirement he was holding many Honorary position. 4. Abdul Qavi Desnavi was Teacher (Prof.) so I mentioned few of his student’s names who are famous writer, Lyricist, Poet in Urdu world to show how Desnavi was dedicated teacher. 5. I mentioned the list of students, who got PhD degree under his guidance to show the quality of his teaching that inspire other teachers & students. 6. Desnavi wrote more than 300 Articles few of them I mention to show his work in the literary field. Mr. Ehsan deleted all. 7. Desnavi books translated in other languages, I mentioned with references & citations but Mr. Ehsan deleted 8. I mentioned the articles & poems of famous urdu language writer who written on him to show how other writers think about him.

These tags on article got only after the article edited by Mr. Ehsan At last I mentioned his illness & death to keep everything in record. It might be I have not given all matter with references but tried my best to give complete link. Also I have given references on Abdul Qavi Desnavi, scholarly articles on life. I would ask you to review my article & comments. Regards Bpldxb.' 16:57, 29 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bpldxb (talkcontribs)

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Dominic·t 01:05, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.

That sounds very neat, and I wish you all success. I wonder how I got on the invitation list, as I don't live in, or even very close to, any of the listed locations. I'm glad to know about it anyway. LadyofShalott 01:11, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Ehsan Mehmood Khan

Hi LadyofShalott! Happy new year and thank you for your valuable comments on discussion page of biographic stub on Pakistani defense & security analyst Ehsan Mehmood Khan. Reliable sources, citations and references have now been provided and properly explained as guided by you previously on the talk page of the said article. I just request you to kindly visit the page for a while and give concluding remarks to end the on-going discussion so that the article could be further developed with peace of mind, please. Kind regards.--182.177.249.155 (talk) 19:45, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

    • Really thankful for your positive intervention. Kindly also take notice of continuous reversions by one editor User:Ehsan Sehgal who has now changed his user name to User:Justice007. The said editor is continuously vandalising the article for the reason that he (unfortunately) belongs to the same region of Pakistan yet having least knowledge of defense & security analysis. I seek your kind help to stop the said editor further vandalising the article on Ehsan Mehmood Khan. Kind regards.--182.177.249.155 (talk) 20:49, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
      • You are welcome for the formatting help. I don't believe Justice007 (let's use his new username) is vandalizing (which means deliberately causing harm) the article, although you may well be in a content dispute. I'm not going to address that now though. I'm not feeling well, and while I can do some cleanup tasks, I'm not currently up to dealing with content disputes. There are other editors, such as Drmies who would be glad to help with that. LadyofShalott 21:04, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
        • I don't want to judge the COI tag--I don't know enough, and the history doesn't tell me enough. But I do have an opinion of my own: even if those references are correct, the sourcing is pretty bad. This attempt to get at notability via citation can work if the bibliography is impeccable and the references are given not to simply say that he was cited but to say something substantial ("Mr. X's opinion on blah blah was vindicated in publication Y" or something like that). I don't see that yet, and if I had to tag (which I would if it weren't nap time) I'd go for "BLP sources", for starters. Now, accusing Justice of vandalism, that's not OK, and IP, I want to urge you to take their edits on good faith and stop casting dispersion. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 21:19, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

    • I'm sorry, there's not a speedy deletion criterion that would be applicable - especially since it's survived an AfD discussion already. What you can do is nominate it for discussion at WP:AfD. You would need to make the case that (a) the subject is either not notable or only marginally notable as far as Wikipedia criteria go and that (b) therefore the wishes of the subject (you) should be respected. I can't guarantee the discussion will go the way you want, but if you really want the article deleted, that's the way to proceed at this point. Let me know what you do. Just an FYI, at that page I hid both your "please don't accuse" comment, and the reply ([3]). My initial inclination was to hide just JCBills' comment, but it broke the conversation - such as it is - and seemed somewhat unfair-ish-esque. The type of short procedural comment you left initially should have ended the discussion and I'd normally leave it be, but given the potential for drama, hiding both seemed justified. I'll be leaving a note on JCBills talk page giving more detail on why his responses were inappropriate and general wikiquette. Feel free to remove my divhide if you prefer. Hello! Just a heads-up, I reverted your revert on Kim Kardashian. This is regarding the wedding date. The article itself gives the August date in the relevant section, and the linked references also say August. The actual divorce documentation shows the marriage date as August 20, 2011. Just wanted to give a reason for my rv. Happy Editing! --Tgeairn (talk) 01:47, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

This is all my fault. The October date has been there for a while, I checked things, missed the August bit and started reverting. When User:MC32 - who has a somewhat awkward history - continued a revert war, I took it to User:Drmies for review. I screwed that up, but LadyofShallott will have picked it up from there. Apologies all round. - Sitush (talk) 01:50, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I have now looked at the People article and realize that MC32 was correct. I'll post a note on their talk page. Thanks for the kind note, Tgeairn. LadyofShalott 01:52, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Counsel

Would you please take a moment to look at this topic on my Talk page? In my view, it's a personal attack, even though it doesn't fit the usual parameters. Indeed, for me personally, it's more hurtful than if he'd told me to go fuck myself. I should probably be less thin-skinned about this sort of thing, and if it had come from a newbie, it wouldn't bother me all that much, but it comes from an experienced editor (whom I don't remember ever encountering before). What's your view? Let it go? Take it to WP:WQA (I've never posted anything there yet and am not sure I want to start with this)? I really don't want to have it out with the editor himself, so that's not an option. Feel free to comment on the merits of the issue if you wish - the dilemma of unsourced articles at Wikipedia is problematic and stirs up a lot of editors in different directions. Thanks for any advice.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:44, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I have looked only at the comments on your talk page, not the article's history or talk. I agree with you that the other editor's comments are inappropriate. I think though that they are borne out of frustration. While that doesn't excuse them, I think it can be understandable. It sounds like the two of you are working from different editing philosophies, and that is what has given rise to the situation. What I therefore suggest is that you ignore the tenor of the comments - let it go. Instead, go to the article talk page and seek wider input into the content dispute. Start an RfC there as to whether the content in question is useful or not, can be sourced or not. See what consensus develops. The result should help settle the matter. I hope it will also help settle nerves on all sides. If, however, they are not, you have at least started from a conciliatory position. LadyofShalott 02:03, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
I agree with your assessment about the editing philosophies. Some editors think that patrolling, protecting, removing, etc. is non-constructive; the only thing that counts is building. Although I believe that creation is essential to growth, without pruning the encyclopedia would become a monumental mess. I suppose, ideally, the best editor is one who does both, but we don't live in a perfect world, and we each have our roles to play. As for your suggestion about the Talk page, it's a good one, but I'll only do it if the editor reverts me yet again. Otherwise, I'm going to let it be. One of the problems for me and Wikipedia is I have only so much time I can spend here, and I have to prioritize my editing. As it is, I spend far too much time here (addicted like so many). Just going through my watchlist each day takes a major chunk of my non-real-work-personal time. The passage of time plus talking to you has been therapeutic - I'm not as upset as I was, so I'll just let the editor's comments go. Thanks, as always, for your kindness.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:48, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
Glad to help. LadyofShalott 05:06, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Get well soon!

Hi, Lady. Sorry I hadn't noticed til now that you were sick. I hope you're completely well very soon. I know all too well how miserable this kind of thing can be, so I hope you're being taken care of properly. My thoughts are with you. Best wishes for a new year filled with good health and happiness. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:47, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Mandarax, I do appreciate it. The good news is that I do not have pneumonia (they looked for that today). I'm ready for this to be gone though. LadyofShalott 21:17, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks God. Justice007 (talk) 22:45, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
    • Yes, much good health! (Did I tell you I have arthritis--in my middle finger??) Drmies (talk) 17:15, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
      • Thank you! (Better be careful with that finger... could be awkward) LadyofShalott 17:19, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
        • How are you feeling? Are you all well yet? I hope so! BTW, after I was "cured", I was a little worried because I still felt that my lungs were not back to normal. It took many months, but eventually they did return to normal. So if you're feeling any aftereffects (which I hope you're not), don't worry; it will get better. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 00:12, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for asking, Mandarax. I've just the past couple days started feeling a little closer to human again. I can't stop coughing though: as long as I sit quietly, I'm mostly ok, but any activity at all makes me try to hack my lungs up. Then that winds me. Thanks for the reassurance that this will go away eventually. LadyofShalott 01:47, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Sorry to hear that it's still going on. But I'm glad it's at least starting to get a little better. Renewed wishes for your return to good health soon! MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 02:46, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Further update: I had an appointment with my doctor today (I'd been to the doc-in-a-box previously) and got several different medicines for asthma and reflux. Cross your fingers that they do the job. (I'm really effing tired of coughing.) LadyofShalott 20:57, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Sometime cough is terrible,I have some herbals (harmless and no side effects),just like a tea, give relax and cure in cough, cold, cattarh, irrition of throat and fever in instant form, etc. And no problem using with other medicine. If you want to try,I can send you.God bless you.Justice007 (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
  • That's a kind offer, Justice. I'll not take you up on it, but I'll remember that. LadyofShalott 02:34, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Standard practice when linking to a disambiguation page on purpose is to link to the title containing "(disambiguation)", even if that page is a redirect. See WP:INTDABLINK, subsection "How to link to a disambiguation page". Cheers—Ketil Trout (<><!) 19:03, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Well, that seems like a rather silly rule to me, but thanks for pointing it out, Ketil. I wasn't aware of that one. Regards, LadyofShalott 19:07, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your additions. Devereux designed the building or in some cases redesigned and rebuilt existing buildings. Wading through that many sources can be problematical, I know. If that basic fact is not evident, than we really screwed up. Hope that's not the case. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen () 01:53, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

DYK... that the Charleston Female Seminary was founded by an expert in silk worms?

What do y'all think? LadyofShalott 04:08, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

This article needs to be renamed. As your category suggests, this was hardly novel, and it was hardly the one "female seminary". 7&6=thirteen () 14:44, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Well, note the case. That may well have been the name of the school. A general article on the phenomenon should be at Female seminary - the case makes the disambiguation. LadyofShalott 14:54, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
I renamed this article. Best wishes. 7&6=thirteen () 02:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure that was the best move. According to the references, the school was named Female Seminary. We can't just make up names, and disambiguation wasn't even necessary. LadyofShalott 03:08, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
There are lots of "female seminaries." And "Female Seminary" in whatever locale. Far more than we have created articles on. That name should be a generic article on the subject. It should have (IMHO) a place name on it. I am certainly not trying to confuse the issue. Rename it if you like. But this was occupying a space that has a much greater destiny. 7&6=thirteen () 03:30, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I've already pointed out that the cases would make the disambiguation. The general article, which we agree should exist, needs to be at Female seminary, not Female Seminary. LadyofShalott 03:34, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Good point. I think you are right. Forgot about the small "s" and the case sensitivity of articles. You should put it back. I was wrong, but well motivated. 7&6=thirteen () 04:01, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Cheers! LadyofShalott 04:06, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear you are sick. Hope you feel better soon. If you are up to it, we have a few days to find a hook. Best to you. 7&6=thirteen () 23:35, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the well wishes! LadyofShalott 14:44, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Drmies, I'm not well yet, but I am feeling better finally (a solid month after all this started). The coughing has slowed down significantly. It looks like you've gotten the pictures straightened out already - or is there something I'm missing?
  • I wonder if you got the same thing Sippi had. Her coughs are getting less, though. BTW, you're not missing anything--in fact, you must be bored, since I saw you at ANI again. Hey, I tried to write a really short hook at Template:Did you know nominations/Keeley Electronics--really, I should leave "effects unit builder" out of it also. Now get better. Honey, bourbon, lemon, etc. No bacon. Drmies (talk) 04:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Oh, the poor kid - I really hope she has not had the same thing as me, and I hope she's well soon. She was coughing at Thanksgiving time. Does she use inhalers? This weather seems to be affecting me today. Did you see Robert Keeley (instrument maker)? It doesn't link back to your article yet. LadyofShalott 14:44, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
  • NO, I hadn't! Thanks! And I did look around... Also, no, the doctor said she just had a cold. But she was coughing then, yes, and I personally think it's the same cough. Are you inhaling? Drmies (talk) 16:26, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
  • You're welcome; it was linked from the disambiguation page Robert Keeley. Yes, I am: I have a history of asthma (in which my major symptom tends to be coughing), and this was a bad cold that turned into bronchitis, and made the asthma active again, hence the inhalers. LadyofShalott 22:37, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
13, I'll look at the article and try to think of a possible hook. (BTW, even though I suggested one for the Charleston, SC, article, nominating articles for DYK is not really my thing. I know you and Drmies both do it - and y'all can if you like, but don't count on me to do that.) Actually, there's a possibility of a double hook here: something along the lines of DYK... that female seminaries were a trend in the late 19th century US, and both Charleston, South Carolina and Charleston, Massachusetts had one? I don't know - is that intersting or lame? LadyofShalott 03:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Hey, yes, of course! Drmies (talk) 04:49, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

<--See Template:Did you know nominations/Charleston Female Seminary. Feel free to tweak or change. Also, I found a nice little thingy on Martha White (who might deserve her own article) and added it to Charleston Female Seminary (Massachusetts). I'd like it if one of you could read Martha's memoir (starting maybe with p. 101) to add to the article (and maybe trim the "cultural phenomenon" section a bit...). I'm going to bed! and I may not have much time over the weekend. But these two articles are great, and it's an important topic. Drmies (talk) 05:20, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

That link about her memoir didn't lead to the text. I haven't yet search GBooks for it - do you have a link for the text itself? If we cut the overview section as you suggest from CFS(M), it could be used towards a start on Female seminarywhich you have already started. Would it leave the article long enough for DYK? LadyofShalott 22:37, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Removing the entire Overview section would still leave 1696 prose characters, so yes, it'd still be fine for DYK. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:58, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, M! LadyofShalott 23:01, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

all of this content is new (it was added to Wikipedia within the last five days). Of course, some of it I had put into other articles within the last five days, and it is now here. Character count is 4116. DYK? 7&6=thirteen () 04:14, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

It's more fun to rag on you. What's even more fun, actually, is this, especially after this. And did I call you Shallot? Usually I catch myself in time! ;) Hey, if you have anything to add to LMA, go for it! There's another DYK right there. We are putting Southern women back on the map. OH! Mrs. MOS, I find that I type "Southern" and "South" with a capital, but the modern source in the LMA article does not. Whichen is correct? "The South will rise again" or "The south will rise again"? Drmies (talk) 04:14, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
<g> I'll have to think about LMA; I don't have anything to add at the moment. I think it should probably be capitalized if you're talking about a region, similarly Mid-West, North-East, but I would not swear to that as a rule. (It's ok; I try to turn myself into onions about half the time I actually have to type my own username.) LadyofShalott 04:39, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I usually don't mess with dashes, unless they need to be turned into em- or en- dashes. If I did, I think I would tend to add too many. Thanks, Drmies, for taking care of my oversight of... uh... your oversight.

While on the subject of members of the onion family, did you know that there's a holiday on which people wear leeks on their heads? I sure didn't, until I saw it, appropriately enough, at Did you know. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 23:15, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

That's a new one for me. Have you seen the Leekspin video? (I prefer Loituma instead.) LadyofShalott 23:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
No, I had been blissfully unaware of that. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 00:28, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh my, what temperature was the water? I just got back from seeing the Bob Hay Band play their annual Burns Night concert. LadyofShalott 04:37, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Nice--I hope you had fun. The Burns Night link probably needs tweaking. ;) Was it an outdoors show? Is it warm there? The water was a brisk 57. Drmies (talk) 14:10, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
It was fun, and the fiddler/glockenspiel player is a good friend. They played inside, and I had a seat inside, but it's a tiny bar with a garage door, and I'm quite sure that the people sitting outside could hear just fine. It was not a dinner (and definitely not of the sort described in the Burns Night article), but there were a couple toasts to Burns. The whole first half was songs by Burns, the second songs by Hay, then they closed with a couple more Burns songs. I'm not sure Burns ever imagined them played rocked up quite the way they were. ;) The weather here is not terribly cold, but we're nowhere near as warm as what you're getting. 57 degree water does not sound pleasant to me! Seydell papers, including extended biography of Mildred Seydell at Emory University. I have not tapped this source. Good stuff. I also have not been able to find information on her biographical book (mentioned in the University of Iowa material), and have not yet put into her published works the poetgry she wrote about Belgium. 7&6=thirteen () 04:50, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
FYI, I pulled a couple of facts from the Emory bio, and there is now a cite for it in our article. Thanks for jumping in. 7&6=thirteen () 05:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
I think this is about done. The only thing that is missing is the scope of her interests and reportage. The biography above has some of that. So does the Iowa citation. Somewhere I read she was involved in some kind of a committee that was studying correctional institutions, which was funded by Hearst. Sigh. Can't remember where. 7&6=thirteen ()
Please take a look at the first sentence, which I rewrote. 7&6=thirteen () 16:31, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
I do like that formulation better. I tweaked it slightly. LadyofShalott 16:53, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

But my confederate (no pun intended) was a credible source and an awesome help (and professional writer and journalist), whose identity I will keep to myself. 7&6=thirteen () 17:09, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Bummer. We're being held up on a "copyright violation investigation." I am frankly appalled.

Tick tock

Just wondering.... Do you plan to nominate Mildred Lewis Rutherford for DYK? The five day clock is ticking.... MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:41, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh, man. I'm so lazy about that. (I find the DYK process intimidating, and I haven't done it at all since the new method started.) OK, I'll try to come up with something. LadyofShalott 22:03, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
OK, I've created it. Please check behind me to see what I've done wrong or omitted. (I've not yet done a review, and probably won't be able to do that today.) LadyofShalott 22:21, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Hook line "Miss Millie" Rutherford, United Daughters of the Confederacy historian general, led the Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage when Georgia became the first state to reject the 19th amendment. 196 characters. 7&6=thirteen () 22:31, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Post it as an Alt hook on the nom page! LadyofShalott 22:41, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
I did. Could wikify it more I suppose? OTOH, I did like your oratory in hoop skirt idea. 7&6=thirteen () 22:44, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
"Miss Millie" Rutherford, United Daughters of the Confederacy historian general, led the Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage when Georgia became the first state to reject the 19th amendment. 7&6=thirteen () 22:48, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Everything looks fine with the nomination. The article was moved to mainspace an hour into January 24 WikiTime, so technically it should go under that date, but I think 23 is fine. The only change I made was a technical one which only the gnomiest of DYK gnomes would be expected to do (and, in fact, I'm the only one who ever has).

I have a possible additional hook which I think is very hooky, but I'll clear it with you first, in case it doesn't portray the subject in the way you'd like: ... that Mildred Lewis Rutherford thought that the only problem with slavery was the burden it placed on white slaveholders?

Also, normally, for an article written around this time of year about a woman, I would recommend that it be saved for International Women's Day (March 8), but I don't know how appropriate that would be for this anti-women's-suffrage, pro-slavery woman.... MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 23:05, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Ironically, This paradign of conservative values was the namesake of and Great Aunt of Mildred Seydell, who espoused everything she hated. They are 'book ends' in the same family.7&6=thirteen () 23:10, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I've no objection to your hook, Mandarax, in fact, I considered that fact for my initial suggestion. Go ahead an post it. As far as IWD, well, it could be interesting. She certainly was an accomplished woman, despite her anti-feminist views. If Seydell weren't already nommed, I'd suggest we do a double hook, with the two of them. LadyofShalott 03:13, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I'll add my hook. But if you want to combine two noms into a single double, that could certainly be done. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 03:46, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm working on expanding the article some more, and I wonder if some of what I've just added might make it seem somewhat more appropriate to IWD, no matter which hook gets chosen? LadyofShalott 17:52, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
My prejudices about who makes for an acceptable IWD representative may be based on outdated ideas. Although IWD's original purpose may have included the promotion of ideas such as women's suffrage, I think now it may be more of a celebration of all women. I would have no objection at all if you wanted to go for it, although I think I'd prefer my hook not be used on IWD, but, again, anything's fine with me. And a double's also fine. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:06, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Something about the paradoxical nature of her views relative to her prominent career could be interesting maybe. Also, I've actually used an ndash, and have an edit summary question to you about its correctness. LadyofShalott 20:19, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. And your en dash usage was perfect. Often, people tend to put a space before {{ndash}}, which is wrong, as the template already adds a non-breaking space. (My personal preference is always for spaced en dashes, but I never change to them without reason. Spaced em dashes are wrong, and they can be switched to unspaced em dashes or spaced en dashes. I always opt for the latter, unless the article already consistently uses the former elsewhere.) MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:47, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. And thanks for doing the article. She was an important historical figure. Best to you. 7&6=thirteen () 12:24, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

I think the lead paragraph is truncated, and fails to preview the whole content. Just a suggestion. 7&6=thirteen () 20:48, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
You're right - it does need work. I'll do so later when I can focus more. LadyofShalott 21:25, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
You've got it! Much improved. 7&6=thirteen () 19:04, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Cool, thanks! LadyofShalott 19:07, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
FWIW, I have some reason to believe that she may be added as a "famous grave" to Find a Grave in the near future. The matter has been called to their attention. 7&6=thirteen () 03:26, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Accountred

I don't think I want to plow through all the Gbook hits, but this one is interesting--Sir Walter Scott, in a sentence also containing the word "yeoman"--which means "free man", of course, which would sound nicely to a Southerner. And note also that the original we were looking at contained the word "foeman" in the same sentence--and that rhymes. Drmies (talk) 03:37, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I would say that's a strong attestation to the word's use! LadyofShalott 04:04, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Foeman also came up in our translation of the Aeneid, yesterday. Hey Lady, do you remember the name of that gospel lady's wordy article we worked on? And the hotel in Bangkok, or Hong-Kong? Drmies (talk) 16:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Not off hand, I don't. I know there's a tool somewhere that lists articles we've both worked on. I don't have any idea how to find that tool though. (Of course, it will be a long list, but it's a place to start...) LadyofShalott 17:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
910 total pages, but just 466 articles. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 17:25, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Mandarax! LadyofShalott 17:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Was it Fanny Crosby? MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 18:37, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Yep!
Holy moly, that's still 136,114 bytes! Drmies (talk) 19:32, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Fanny

I see that there is another series of attempts relating to tweaking of Fanny Crosby. Good stuff. My intention is to return to it but I keep getting waylaid. I got your mail, btw. Yesterday. For some reason it ended up in my spammy thingummy-doo-dah-wotsit. I am really, really pleased that things are improving and will reply when Drmies etc stop being so pernickety (sp.?) at the FAC that I started. Fair do's, though: he and others are proving generally to be correct ... and I am humbled. - Sitush (talk) 00:35, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Sitush, thanks for your note. Yeah, as Drmies noted above, FC is still way too long. There's no telling what tripped the spam filter; oh, well. I didn't know you were going through FAC. Good luck! I've not yet run that gauntlet. LadyofShalott 01:04, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Drugs probably tripped the filter, not that I want to diss you or have just cause. <g> I did not spot the thread above. Perhaps I am not spreading myself around articles sufficiently, since the FC connection is blindingly obvious to me. It is definitely not that I have a superior memory because ... oh, I forget the reason. Or maybe you are both suffering the effects of old age? <g> I am reasonably confident that my age exceeds the pair of you, but there is no harm in getting that dig in there. FC needs work, and a lot of it. I've nibbled on a couple of occasions since the big clear-out but there remains much to be done. It is quite sad, really, because the main contributor put a lot of effort into it. I have a similar issue with Jiddu Krishnamurti, although in that instance there was clearly a tag-team/meatpuppet type of situation going on and they seemed to me to be deliberately using overly complex templates/mark-up etc in order to get their way. It made (probably still makes) FC look like chicken feed. - Sitush (talk) 01:25, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
