Re: your question

If it's an issue relating to Wikipedia in general, I would recommend bringing it up at Wikipedia:Village pump, in the appropriate subpage. If this is the case, check to see if it's been suggested before so you aren't suggesting something that's been rejected a few times already. If you want to change something with a group of articles, I'd recommend bringing it up at the relevant wikiproject. If it's just one article, bring it up on the talk page if you haven't already. I want to be able to gather consensus from a wider range of editors on an article talk page (note that I am not necessarily conservative, but I opted to assist in the editing of that article to ensure maximum cohesiveness). Master&Expert (talk) 02:02, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

In this case, my advice would to be bold and change the page yourself - I agree that it needs better sources, and could be more neutral (though with an article like Conservatism, this is an ongoing struggle). The paragraph on North America that you mentioned is pretty bad, and it needs to include the other countries too. I might help you clean this article up if I have the time. If you'd like, thank you for helping me out. :) In general, with only 19 sources, it needs a few more citations. And certainly, such a controvertial topic will obviously attract POV statements and general difficulties. Liberalism FAC withdrawn

I appreciate you're acting in good faith but it's best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. This way they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar with the sources to make any suggested improvements. Per the WP:FAC instructions:

Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FAC process. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article prior to nomination.

I've withdrawn the FAC for liberalism. I see you initiated a peer review, but then closed it before it got any feedback, and significant contributors don't seem to have been consulted. There are tips at WP:FCDW/March 17, 2008 to help locate editors who might help out on peer review, which is a good way to prepare the article for FAC. I see, thank you. But there doesn't appear to be any particularly significant contributors to Liberalism - I figured, well maybe it could stand for an FAC. As for the peer review, I didn't find it particularly helpful. The automated review, which I can barely make heads-or-tails of, seems to indicate areas that don't appear to have any real problems. The link I gave you above explains how to locate interested editors to conduct a successful peer review and help you bring the article to standard. FAC doesn't function as peer review, while editors invited to a peer review, which typically takes about a month, may be more willing to invest leisure time to help you bring the article to standard. Making new articles on video game subjects is extremely difficult, primarily because of our strict guidelines on notability, writing about fiction, and so on; most topics that warrant complete articles have been created. Thus, the main focus of most video game projects is to improve existing articles. Re: UNDO

No, it was perfectly ok to use the undo button for that. Pretty much anything can be reverted using the undo button, but if you aren't positive the edit was vandalism, you should add a note in the edit summary after the automatically generated portion explaining why you undid the edit. Yes, you did the right thing reverting that edit, though I don't really understand the warning about adding large amounts of content (since the IP user removed a small amount, not added a large amount). Also, just so you know, you aren't required to leave a warning/message on someone's talk page every time you revert an edit (though it is highly recommended in cases of obvious vandalism). If it helps you, what I probably would have done in the case of the edit you mentioned would be to revert the edits with an edit summary of something similar to "rv good faith edit", which basically means that while we're assuming the edit was done in good faith, I/we still think it should be reverted for whatever reason (in this case because the old revision was more comprehensive/professional). Also, don't worry if you make a mistake with your reverting. Be bold and go out there and clean up this place! I can assure you that you are doing just fine with your vandal-fighting and I have to say you are by far the most careful and considerate vandal-fighter that I have ever seen. So don't worry too much if you goof up once in a while. Everyone does it sometimes. Even I do, (*gasp*) and more than I'll ever admit to in public. ¬_¬ ... wait..... ;-) Thingg ^⊕^⊗ 04:51, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey again. I just looked over your contribs a little more thoroughly and I hve to say I'm very impressed with your reverting accuracy. Because of this, I've given your account rollback rights. Basically, rollback adds another button (labeled "[rollback]") next to the undo button that allows you to revert edits with one click. (you can try it out here if you want) However, unlike the undo button, you should only use the rollback feature for vandalism reversions. (and based on your contribs and your questions tonight, I don't think you would do that, but I just want to make sure you are aware of that restriction) More info about rollback is in the above link. BLP privacy policy for limited public figures

I think that the current deadlock on Joe the plumber is due to unclear BLP policy on limited public figures. I've made a proposal to clarify the policy here. Thank you for notifying me of this. That proposal is exactly what we need. It identifies the problem that we're facing with Joe the Plumber and gives future reference for articles that face the same problem, so editors will have a better idea on what to do. I must say it's unfortunate that no overall consensus could be built on what to do with the article, particularly the BLP concerns, and it is especially disappointing how much drama has come of this. Well, My 'WikiCollege' teaches anti-vandalism/wikimatinence (pardon my spelling), Wikihistory and comprehension(non-relavent, I teach it anyway) and college level formatting. This is one-on-one for a week, open twice in december, once in feb, once in mar, and four times a month in the summer. I see. I have to admit, this is something of a constant interest for me (along with science, and video games). Lately my focus is on Turkey and The Middle East, where I've been doing some WikiGnoming to try and improve the articles to good quality standards. It is somewhat hasty - most AfD's run for a while longer before a consensus is reached. However, the commenters there were able to establish that the anime satisfied the relevant notability guidelines (namely WP:OUTCOMES#Entertainment and WP:ANIME), and that it needs cleanup, but not deletion. Though it might have been a bit premature, I figured the consensus was unlikely to change from that point, so I opted to close it a bit early. Don't feel at all discouraged, though - the article is not of particularly good quality (it's a stub) and needs more references.

Corrections

I've noticed your google searchs but would like to suggest a few changes that must be made to them (if you don't mind the suggestions):

Change the 'Samaria' searh to be X or Y or Z rather than X and Y, which is the current format. Here's a sample search with the added, rarly used in English term 'Yesha' (translates to: Judea, Samaria and Gaza) - [3]
Change the 'West Bank' search to be "A B" rather than A and B, which finds all the B's and all the A's regardless if the context is relevant to "A B" -- in this instance, all the pages that include a mention of a bank and all the ones that say west are included; Here's how to do this - [4]

p.s. there's more ways to write down the names of the area and while Shomron bumps up the findings another 300K, Google doesn't know how to handle "Iudea" and finds 470 million pages using the word 'Idea' instead. Warm regards, Jaakobou^{Chalk Talk} 08:27, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Master&Expert. :) I personally think it's fine for non-admins to decline blatantly incorrect reports (such as an account with no edits). M&E--I think you should file an RFA. You'd be a great admin. You have keen insight, judgment, and fairness. I even think you are arbitrator material. I'll nom you but the choice is yours. Though at this time, I don't know if the community would entrust me with the tools, based on edit count (I think I have around 1600 edits total, I'm not sure though). I admit I have thought about it quite a bit, though, and I could see myself accepting an offer in the future - it would certainly make maintenance work a lot easier. That edit count is a bit low for RFA, so I'd say work to beef it up, work in admin areas, and work on good and featured items and you should be fine. I'd say get at least 2000 edits and then file and RFA. Feel free to ask Julian and I to conom you. — Rlevse • Talk • 01:41, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Believe me, as an RfA regular, I am well aware of how RfA go-ers frequently "look at" (viciously scrutinize, over-analyze, etc.) a user's contributions, and I'm well aware of the standards they use. ;) I'll try my best to follow your advice, though. Though be warned - I am not the type to stay focused on improving an article for too long (I've made attempts before). Are there any strategies for getting an article featured? Be thorough, write well (someone like Julian copyedit if you are not good at it --I bug him all the time ;-) ), solid refs, good formatting, good image documentation. Pick an article related to what you want to work on and follow that as a guide. Ask others for help. Maybe I should ask others to gather refs, considering I find it hard to search in books for them. I find myself pretty interested in Mediterranean history these days, specifically the Ottoman Empire. I wonder if I could find somebody who might share that interest, and who might have references to put in an article I've been working on (or was, I haven't worked on it in about a month). The article in question needs more images and references, and needs some expansion. Is there anywhere where I could find somebody who might be willing to assist me in editing the article? Libby Booth

I am very new to wikipedia as well and hope I am doing this correctly.

A few weeks ago you helped to approve the deletion of an article I wrote on a local artist named Libby Booth.

Not only did this article take me a very long time to write (as I said, I am new to this), but I was quite annoyed that it was removed so quickly by simply "googling" her name to see if she is a notable artist.

Perhaps I am naive about how this sight works, and perhaps I need to explain my own credentials in writing this.

I am a history professor who has lived in the Central Michigan area for nearly 25 years. Booth is by far the best artist I have ever seen in all of this time, and in terms of her local notability, she is considered the top artist of the Michigan tri-city area and is hopefully going to be known nationally quite soon.

While her name may not produce many google hits, this is NO WAY reflects how popular or well known she is in this area.

Outside of publishing books, I have published over 20 professional encyclopedia articles and am well aware of who should or should not have documentation about their careers and life.

This whole evaluation and deleting process seems rather haphazard (perhaps it is not and I am naive about this format), but I would appreciate it if you could possibly remove this article from its current deleted status.

I would really like to contribute more to this site in the future, but this initial experience is leaving me very frustrated.

Any advice or comments?

Hello Mr. Lewis, and welcome to Wikipedia. I am sorry to see an article you worked hard at has been deleted, and I understand how you feel. I assume the deletion discussion you are referring to is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Libby Booth. I cannot undelete or view deleted content — these technical functions are limited to administrators — and I have a very poor memory of the article. It apears it was deleted due to a lack of reliable secondary sources. Wikipedia adheres to rather strict notability guidelines (particularly on people), and as such we can only include biographies of people who have received enough coverage in the press to verify their notability. I'm sorry for the abruptness of my comment to the discussion as well. I hope you don't feel too discouraged by this unfortunate event, Wikipedia values your contributions a lot.
