David Noon (composer)

Hi from me too. All in all, a very good start for a new Wikipedian! I made a few changes to the article. "Reviews" sections with quotes are never a good idea, especially when they are cherry-picked (that is, all positive). Better instead to list the compositions (with any extra information re premiere, recordings etc.) and reference them to a review. You can see how I did this, if you take a look at the article now. Noon is notable, but the sourcing needs improvement. Remember, sources don't have to be online. If the Longy library has a copy of The ASCAP biographical dictionary of composers, authors and publishers, you can use that. Just give the exact page number and the full bibliographic information—publisher, editor/author, date of publication, ISBN (if available). It looks like there's also something in The new music connoisseur: Volume 13; Contemporary American composers: a biographical dictionary (ISBN 0816111170); Pan pipes of Sigma Alpha Iota, Volumes 71-74 [1], etc. etc. Voceditenore (talk) 08:19, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Works list

I was looking at the article history for David Noon (composer) today and noticed that before I edited it, someone else had removed the entire works list. I think it would be appropriate to re-add this, as these are common in composer articles. But if it is re-added it must be formatted correctly. Titles of works are italicised never in capital letters e.g.

• MOTETS & MONODIES, op. 31 ....

should be

• Motets & Monodies, Op. 31 ...

Also, to avoid inbalance and to help the reader contextualize the works, it's a good idea to have an introductory prose paragraph to that section highlighting some of the more important or typical works (properly referenced, of course). Take a look at an article I've recently written, Stefano Bernardi, to see what this would look like. You may not have time to re-do all the formatting now to enable the list to be re-added, but it's something you might want to return to later. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 08:27, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Wow, I just looked closely at the list. It's mighty long. ;-) I think it might be better placed at List of compositions by David Noon. It would need a very brief intro:

This is a list of the works of the American composer David Noon (born 1946).

You'll also need a Sources section for that page. Then in David Noon, you should have a brief prose paragraph in a section called Compositions highlighting a few of his more important works in the various genres, referenced to reviews if possible. Just above the paragraph put:

{{main|List of compositions by David Noon}}

This produces:
