Please correct the error for the Image:Mnchippewamap.png as you show only the tribal trust lands of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, one of the six component members of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Just as the Bois Forte Band have 3 Indian Reservations, the Mille Lacs Band have 2 Reservations. If you are using the US Census Bureau's census files, the Mille Lacs Lake Indian Reservation (IR 2270) is found in the Bureau's na99_d00.shp file. As for the Sandy Lake Indian Reservation (IR 3385), I have a copy of its shapefile, so let me know if you want a copy and I will e-mail to you. CJLippert 13:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean - both Mille Lacs reservations are on there. I went to double check the Mille Lacs tribal website and mine seems consistent with the one there. I was missing some Mille Lacs trust lands and have added those (the Lake Lena area). I also didn't realize that Sandy Lake was part of the Minnesota Chippewa tribe, I've changed the color of its reservation and labeled it. I'm not showing portions of the Mille Lacs and White Earth reservations that were lost with the 1889 Nelson Act - I could potentially add those in a different color or something. If showing the portions not lost in the Nelson Act were your intentions, then only the Mille Lacs Lake and Sandy Lake Indian Reservations are properly shown. If showing the exterior boundaries of the nine Indian Reservations of the six component Bands of MCT and not the land status of the parcels located within those nine Indian Reservations, then Mille Lacs Lake and Sandy Lake Indian Reservations are improperly shown. White Earth was modified under WELSA to a fat "L" shape...not the Nelson Act. Anyway, what Mille Lacs Reservation map were about you looking at www.millelacsojibwe.org? There is a visitor's guide that the publicity firm put together, which all the commissioners (except the Commissioner of Natural Resources) approved. If that was the map you've looked at, here are the glaring errors/omissions from that map (which the Commissioner of Natural Resources objected and was then out-voted... yet it is the Commissioner of Natural Resources who oversees the Band's land office):

The Vineland community is not titled, though District I is indicated
Sandy Lake IR is not shown, though the Sandy Lake and Lake Minnewawa communities are indicated.
Sandstone-Rutledge and Pine City-Pokegama communities in District III have been omitted.
Hinckley community indicated as Lake Lena community (though the inset do show them separately).
If the map's intension was to show the Band's administrative districts and the districts' major features, then the Urban District (consisting of Anoka, Hennepin and Ramsey Counties) have been omitted.

Ok, I added the original boundaries for the Mille Lacs. I was using a BIA layer because it was more recent then the Census Bureau one, I've switched back to the Census Bureau data - the Mille Lacs was the only tribe that they differed. I was going for current Tribal Lands, really the point is just to show the component bands of the MN Chippewa as they are today. I had been looking at the visitor guide map, I also checked a couple of commercial atlases (Rand McNally and AAA) and they were also consistent with what I had, but if this is more accurate I'll go with it. If you think I should add the original Sandy Lake boundary on there as well I'll need your shapefile as the Census Bureau doesn't have it (I'll also need a source to cite to meet WP:V). We're getting closer. Other than the treaty (10 Stat. 1165) language that defines the exterior boundary of the Sandy Lake IR, let me see if I can find other sources. Also, a minor point: either list the Bois Forte Band's three Reservations as Bois Forte (Nett Lake), Bois Forte (Deer Creek) and Bois Forte (Vermilion Lake) or as Bois Forte... with the title nested among the three IR sites, with a parallel labling formatting for the Mille Lacs Band as Mille Lacs (Mille Lacs Lake) and Mille Lacs (Sandy Lake) or nestle the lable Mille Lacs between the two sites...because the Sandy Lake IR IS a Mille Lacs IR but Sandy Lake IR is not Mille Lacs Lake IR. (Hair splitting, I know. Similarly, there is a differece between the Mille Lacs Indians and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (which is a composit of the Mille Lacs Indians with the Sandy Lake Band of Mississippi Chippewa, Rice Lake Band of Mississippi Chippewa and the St. Chippewa Indians of Minnesota) and the Mille Lacs Indians are thus called because they are a composit of the Mille Lacs Band of Mdewakanton Sioux with the Mille Lacs Band of Mississippi Chippewa.) Hmmm. OK, I think I see where you're going with this. For the MCT map, are you trying to show the six Bands (which then there ought to be only six lables; Bands being: Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake, Mille Lacs and White Earth) or the nine Reservations (which then there ought to be either six or nine lables, but not seven lables; Reservations being: Bois Forte (Deer Creek), Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake, Mille Lacs (Mille Lacs Lake), Bois Forte (Nett Lake), Mille Lacs (Sandy Lake), Bois Forte (Vermilion Lake) and White Earth)? Since the map clearly says Reservation, maybe the three Bois Forte Reservations out to be listed separately as well. Also, If you're showing Mille Lacs Lake, Red Lake, Sandy Lake and White Earth's off-Reservation Trust, you ought to show MCT's non-Reservation Trust (IR 2285) and Fond du Lac's off-Reservation Trust located in Wisconsin (or maybe you have but the colours are hard to tell?). The intent is to show the component bands of the MCT - it's intended to go with the MCT article, so yeah the labels are meant to go with tribes, not reservations - I think the map would be too cluttered to label each of the reservations. That's also why I didn't have Sandy Lake on there initially, because it isn't mentioned in the MCT article. Should I take that back off? The MCT trust lands are on there, I'll double check on Fond du Lac though - I didn't realize they went into Wisconsin. Do you have a better suggestion for the legend? Keep the Sandy Lake IR highlighted as a MCT reservation, but take the Sandy Lake IR labeling off; move the "Mille Lacs" to NE shore of the lake as it is a more central location among the 3 districts. However, if you look at the Federal Register, it does something strange: it says "Six component reservations" but lists the six component bands, with acknowledgement of only Nett Lake IR of the Bois Forte Band. Fond du Lac Band have lands in Douglas County, WI. I have tried to send you .zip file with what the Mille Lacs Band's land office sent to the US Census Bureau as a shapefile (Mille Lacs Lake IR, Sandy Lake IR, Mille Lacs Trust (both on and off Reservation)) for the 2010 Census preps, but it seems you have your e-mail settings turned off. Duluth Complex[edit]

Hello KM-- Could you prepare a version of this map with better labels? The base image is found here. That image graphically shows how the Duluth Complex, an intrusion, literally intruded into an archaic mountain range, splitting it into the Mesabi and Gunflint Ranges. (The article's text and image caption give more detail.) More appealing labeling of those features, and of the Duluth Complex itself, would improve the appearance of the image. New Columbia basin dams map[edit]

Hi Karl; just noticed the new map when PeterForsythe added it to the page. Coupla comments:

you might as well pull the title of the Duncan River out; where it's situated it's actually "labelling" Kootenay Lake and Trout Lake/Lardeau River; only its second "n' is anywhere near the Duncan River. Better to label the Kettle River instead I think.....
not sure about the BC Hydro colour scheme simply as a "utility" (so is FortisBC...); the BC Hydro dams are inherently provincial in nature as it's a crown-operated-and-governed utility
I see the Lower Kootenay dams between Nelson and Castlegar aren't on it, presumably because there's no articles for them? As noted elsewhere, a local map from the Pend Oreille up to Nelson/Keenlyside would probably help in describing that area....also for dams on the Canadian side of the border, the spelling is Pend d'Oreille.
all the little green dots all over the Okanagan basin, and the red/dun ones there and in the Similkameen basin - are those irrigation dams or what? If so they're under provincial jurisdiction, I'm pretty sure (though not provincially owned, at least not all of them; some may be municipal or Indian-band owned, I'm not sure.

Pittsburgh International Map[edit]

I think the map you made for PIT is great and is very useful in the article. I would like to ask however, with the rumored return of multiple cities and definite return of Portland and Manchester, is there any way this map could be easily updated as new destinations return, or do you have any thoughts on that? My plan was to review them every year or so to see what's changed and update them, or to update if there is a major change (like an airline adding a hub). The map u made of British India is great but i happened to see one little factual flaw in it. The southernmost kingdom of Travancore doesnt cover all its area on ur map. U have excluded Kanyakumari and several other Travancore districts from that kingdom and included it in the British territories. Take a look at the Travancore article. Keep up the great work. Alaska borough/census area boundaries[edit]

However, on your Alaska rivers maps there seems to be a problem with your depiction of the border between Yakutat City and Borough, Alaska and Valdez-Cordova Census Area, Alaska. Map request[edit]

This one is kind of tricky, for Greater Los Angeles. Because of the abnormal size and shapes of some counties, people usually don't include the desert regions as part of the metro area, but they must be included as part of the combined statistical area, so there should be a special line along these parameters, and the Cities of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Riverside, Oxnard and Pasadena should be pointed out as they are the main centers for their regions. this is a map (boundaries are approximate). Indian Territory[edit]

I too found your maps, but was wondering if you could improve them by doing vector versions. Specifically I would like a vector version of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Okterritory.png

You could, if not too much trouble, to include new services from FLL and specify which are offered on a seasonal basis with a different colored dot.

These are the new destinations: Barranquilla, Lexington (KY) there are also new seasonal destinations: Halifax, Milan-Malpensa, Hartford / Springfield.

The destinations are seasonal: Ottawa, Salt Lake City, Kansas, Punta Cana, Flint

You could also fix the code of Santiago de los Caballeros is STI not CAP as it appears on the map.

Windsor Locks BDL no longer serves.

Hi Karl, thank you very much for sharing your works! your map of pearl river basin (china) is the most nice one I've ever seen! may I ask you for the original GIS files of the Pearl River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zhujiangrivermap.png)? It's easy for me to draw the river system but I find it impossible to add the lables of the rivers and the cities. you did a great job!
