Reference Errors on 8 December

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Burden of Sandwich Generation

Hi friend, chanced upon your recent article, Burden of Sandwich Generation. It would serve better if you convert those references inline, or else chances of early deletion are more. Happy editing!! --jojo@nthony (talk) 09:51, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry friend, I hit on the wrong talk page, please disregard my above message. You dont need any advice, you are more than capable. --jojo@nthony (talk) 10:01, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Because I just like your kind of all-round performance as an editor. Now if you could keep it up every month...

--Masonsmusics (talk) 02:49, 12 December 2014 (UTC) HI thank you for reaching to me! Quick Question, how do I get the general information that usually sits to the Right in a blue box containing a photo and general information? I'm looking everywhere for it!

Thanks :D

@Masonmusics: Do you mean Help:Infobox or MOS:INFOBOX? There are a lot of them in Category:Infobox templates depending on what the article is about. — kikichugirl inquire 03:28, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Hey

Hey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyron25 (talkcontribs) 05:42, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello, just a friendly reminder to look just a little more closely at the page history before reverting edits that aren't obviously unhelpful (in relation to this revert). In this case the editor you reverted was removing trivia (and the names of Diaz's children, which is arguably a BLP violation) that an IP had just re-added to the infobox after I'd reverted a sequence of edits by the IP. I've not used STiki, but I know anti-vandal tools (as wonderful as they are) give you a limited perspective and sometimes it's necessary to examine the situation a little more closely. Or, on a well-watched page like that, you could leave it to somebody else if you preferred. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:58, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell: thanks for the feedback! I reverted it with AGF because looked like it was breaking the template, I do realize sometimes I miscalculate (which is why a lot of my Stiki reverts are AGF reverts too). Will keep an eye out in the future. — kikichugirl inquire 00:01, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

HackerNest

Hi! Sorry about the references section being clunky, I am using the new beta "edit" feature and that's how it spits out stuff >< — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vindicati (talkcontribs) 22:27, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

@Vindicati: No need to apologize! I fix that sort of thing all the time (and Visualeditor is silly sometimes). Although, your article still reads like an advertisement. Consider reading WP:NPOV; I've restored the tag so that another editor can help you with it too. — kikichugirl inquire 22:31, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you :) About the promo-sounding text, the word 'largest' is descriptive rather than superlative. I thought pointing out their size would help establish notability.. definitely not selling anything! (their events are free as far as I can tell, well maybe not the hackathons) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vindicati (talkcontribs) 22:38, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

@Vindicati: Notability is actually not because something is big. WP:GNG asks that you have WP:Reliable sources to see that it is well-known. It's difficult to compare the size of something; you can have the largest in a certain way, and then the largest in another way, it seems like a subjective criteria. I'd suggest working on talking about what HackerNest does, and its history (basically don't brag about it haha). Good luck! (and don't forget to sign your posts by typing four tildes) — kikichugirl inquire 22:43, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Ahhh, I think I meant 'significance' instead of 'notability'-- Touché! Thanks for the tips ^_^ Vindicati (talk) 22:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

@Vindicati: WP:SIGCOV redirects to a subsection of WP:Notability though :P Also, you can use the word largest, as long as you have a WP:RS to support it. Like, for music articles, you can say, "According to This Critic Person, so-and-so's song was the biggest hit of the year." Try breaking it up into sentences/paragraphs instead of using a list. A lot of these articles have a lead, then a Background/history section that explains what the organization does, and then finally at the end, it talks about awards. See Dragonair, Union Bank of Switzerland, and Operation USA, which have all achieved good article status. Good luck! — kikichugirl inquire 23:03, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Kikichugirl

Complement of the season. You seemed a brilliant author, I just review the article, A Tear in the Eye Is a Wound in the Heart you created in 2013 and it looks very good. Will you consider creating more music-related articles? Wikigyt@lk to M£ 08:26, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! :) That was my first article and it took me quite a few hours to make... I looked up comparable GA/FA album articles, uploaded files, researched how to use infoboxes... hit preview over and over again... perhaps I'll make another one as soon as the semester ends. Sorry, but I've declined your speedy. Being elected as an MLA passes WP:POLITICIAN, and therefore also passes A7. It's unreferenced, of course, so a prod-blp would be in order. Peridon (talk) 14:05, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Margaret K. Butler, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page American. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey I saw you initially tagged the List of stations owned or operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group page I just created for a speedy deletion, only to withdraw it seconds later. Was kinda confused, but if you would've left it up I would've used this discussion on a split that has been up for over a year. The listing had gotten longer and probably will get longer in the near future, leaving the article too long.

In any case, thanks for revoking the speedy deletion nomination. Jgera5 (talk) 07:31, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

  • I saw "largest" and kinda long article and it seemed spammy. Has been a long day, spammers sometimes make me jaded... Further investigation revealed my error. Sorry about that. — kikichugirl ? 07:33, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Michael Guerrero

Hi Kikichugirl,

Why has the Michael Guerrero page been flagged as a hoax for speedy deletion? I have spent a lot of time researching Michael's history with his consent and feel aggrieved that you keep marking this for deletion.

Please remove this tag as Michael and his family back in Ecuador will be very disappointed if is deleted.

Kind regards, Wallace1982

It might not be a hoax, but it was awfully negative. We don't attack people here, just as you wouldn't yell 'fire' in a crowded theater for everyone to get really confused and panic. — kikichugirl ? 17:18, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Pyotr Kapitsa

You don't speak or read Russian, do you. I do. I made the parenthetical "(incorrectly)" notation because "Kapitza" reflects neither the pronunciation nor the spelling of the name. "Kapitsa" reflects both. The character ц is transliterated and pronounced "ts", not "tz". The name is pronounced "kah-PEET-sah" not "kah-PEET-zah". The sound is a hiss, not a buzz. You could have discovered that for yourself rather than vandalising my perfectly accurate edit, which I'll thank you to replace where you found it. 72.70.20.169 (talk) 13:50, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Please see WP:AGF before you accuse me of vandalism. I reverted your edit because it didn't constructively follow the MOS, and your explanation reflects WP:OR. The "or" does not imply any sort of transliteration or pronounciation guide, it is the alternate name that he is commonly known by, and that's how it's spelled. People most certainly have last name Chang, but the common transliteration is Zhang and it's actually pronounced something like z-aahng. In the future, it'd be helpful if you explained your edits with an edit summary (tell the edit summary what you're telling me now), so I know what your intents are. If you'd like to restore it, you're welcome to do so, though it is likely your edit will be reverted again for not following WP:MOS.— kikichugirl ? 20:48, 20 December 2014 UTC
Seconded. I do read Russian--or rather, Cyrillic--and I can attest to the veracity of 72.70.20.169's claim, but there is no sense in pointing it out unless the sources do so as well. ekips39 20:55, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Finnvera

Hello. Thank you for your patrol of the Finnvera page. May I ask why you tagged it as sounding like an advert? Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 15:43, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

@NHCLS: Hello! I tagged it because it had some very very high numbers that might be construed to be reading on the advertisement level, without explaining the significance of the stats or how they were achieved. It's only a little bit advert-y, so if you disagree with the tag, feel free to remove it. — kikichugirl ? 20:51, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't speak Finnish, so the amount of information that I could find (in a language I can speak) was minimal... I will leave it to another editor to judge the removal of the tag. Thanks for being alert! Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 05:54, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

centillion

Hi, I was the one who added what centillion looks like in short scale. I am messaging you because I wanted to know why you removed it. I actually calculated it, so it is not just a large number I put to mess with the page. I put it there because while looking for its size written out I came to Wikipedia and it was not shown here, so I calculated it and decided to add it. While it does look out of place considering it's size I think overall it will be useful for people who want to see the size of the number. Thank you for your time, and for the work you do to make Wikipedia a better site for everyone. - 96.235.220.27 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.228.85.142 (talk) 20:35, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I know you meant well, but such a large number doesn't generally look good for the page, and it's going way off into the margins which is never good :/ I removed it because it didn't seem to follow Wikipedia's manual of style. I think that if anyone wants to know what it looks like on a page, they could go offsite and calculate it. Thank you! — kikichugirl speak up! 21:52, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Hack video game soundtrack album cover.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Hack video game soundtrack album cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 09:23, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Objection of recommending the article, Salt spoon (unit) for deletion

@Kikichugirl: This article consists unit conversions and the definition based on the based unit for US unit of capacity used in food recipe and the usage and also it includes references while providing the fact that this article is differed from an dictionary entry. Wikipeadia also includes articles for other units of US unit of capacity used in food recipe, including drop, tea spoon, tablespoon, etc. Before doubting the reliability of the source, all the references in the bibliography list must be pursued properly. Articles which can be enhanced by other authors in future and which enhance the knowledge base of Wikipedia, should not be nominated for deletion. Shevonsilva (talk) 03:35, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

(I've reformatted your comment to make it indent correctly) Thanks for your argument, you made a similar one on the deletion page. Unfortunately reliability is not for you or me to decide. While articles can be enhanced by other authors in the future, these articles look like permastubs as they are non-notable (teaspoon and tablespoon are notable, per WP:SIGCOV). In fact, I think taking it to AfD is a good idea, because if everyone !votes to keep, then there won't be any more related AfDs in the future - we'll all know where the community stands. — kikichugirl speak up! 03:43, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

"Thanks" for deleting my user page

Hello Kikichugirl

Aside of the highly motivating fact that I researched user pages and templates and it says in Wikipedia that there are nor rules for such (as they are not Wikipedia articles but user pages), I do not understand why you apply "article" rules and deleted my page. I've rewritten it, if it's deleted again with such nonchalance, I know I am not welcome.

Especially as I find my old user account simple gone with the pages I created and updates I did (all approved) simply being no longer attributed. No, not "you" killed that account, but you may understand my frustration of being a editing user. Much easier to simply be a using user, despite my believe in "give and take" and not leeching. But what goes around, comes around. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isochrones (talkcontribs) 11:36, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

@Isochrones: Sorry you've been having trouble. I'm not an admin so I can't delete pages but I did tag it for deletion under WP:G11 which isn't just for articles (see section starting at WP:A1 for a list of article criteria) - I was not applying article rules because G11 is a sitewide rule. The relevant userpage rules are at WP:UPNO which is you can't use it for promotional stuff or anything promo-y ("stuff not closely related to Wikipedia's goals"). Your current userpage is much better.
I'm not sure what you mean about your old account since you didn't provide a wikilink to it, but if it was something similar, you can always request unblock and username change if that applies to you. We're all trying to build an encyclopedia, so in light of your "what goes around, comes around" statement, please feel free to have a look at WP:AGF. Let me know if you have any further problems or questions and I'll be happy to help you as best as I can. THIMUN Foundation G11 complaint

Hi Kikichugirl, I have just seen that my sandbox page on the THIMUN Foundation was speedily deleted (G11), and want to question the decision. I accept that I possibly over-ellaborated in places, and not all the citations were yet in place (it was a work in progress), but was it so egregious as to demand a complete re-write from the ground up? I would like to point you in the direction of a few live articles of other nonprofit organisations which I believe adopt the same tone:

  1. REDIRECT UNA-USA
  2. REDIRECT Harvard International Relations Council

If you have time, could you please highlight where I went wrong in contrast to these two articles. Many thanks, Moseley101 (talk) 21:11, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

In the future, providing a link to User:Moseley101/sandbox would be helpful :) Unfortunately I don't remember the specific content of the article since I see many of these every day, and it must have been written in a way that said the organization was overly good, or i wouldn't have tagged it. Wikipedia isn't a place to talk about how good, great, or awesome something is. Let me ping User:Cryptic who deleted the page. — kikichugirl speak up! 01:33, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
@Moseley101: Your draft reads to me like the sort of blurb that one would find on the organization's own website instead of in an encyclopedia article, so much so that I was surprised it wasn't a word-for-word copy. It's so laden with puffery that I'm having trouble finding so much as a paragraph that would survive unchanged in a neutrally-written article. The long list of external links is also especially objectionable.
The two articles you compare it to really aren't much better, but see WP:OSE to see why that isn't a very persuasive argument. If you're looking for articles that are legitimately worth emulating, try looking through the lists at Wikipedia:Featured articles or Wikipedia:Good articles/all. —Cryptic 02:54, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

I didn't delete it, I redirected it. You're welcome to undo me, I guess, but I felt like it was a case of WP:A10 where it didn't really add much to the encyclopedia that couldn't be included in the main article. — kikichugirl speak up! 07:37, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

I am not sure why you have nominated this article for WP:CSD. This is one of a large series of articles on notable aircraft manufacturers that is being created, along with articles on all aircraft types by editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft as noted on the talk page. From the refs cited the subject is clearly notable. I have asked for a project review of your nomination, but in future when articles are being written as part of WikiProject it might be better to make a query on the article talk page rather than rushing to try and have it deleted 16 minutes after it was created.. - Ahunt (talk) 21:31, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

@Ahunt: Facepalm Facepalm Sorry about that. Upon closer examination you're right. I don't know what I was thinking... a long time on NPP may have made me a liiiitle bad at AGF, and I thought it wouldn't be notable since it's a small company. Do not restore the thread. He is banned. His edits should not have been made. It does not need to be archived. I am not "involved" as he should not be allowed to edit at all.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 08:49, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

WP:INVOLVED is about the use of administrative actions. Removing the content of a banned editor is not an administrative action. Since the IP admitted they were banned in an edit summary then I think it is fine if Ryulong makes that conclusion. Chillum 08:53, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Ryulong and the other editor have been fighting both on and off wiki for a while. I just wish they would stop. — kikichugirl speak up! 09:00, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
It is easy to see from the removed post that it is better that it be removed without fuss because it is a content-free moan, and the way to stop the fighting is to apply WP:DENY. Johnuniq (talk) 09:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

THIMUN article

Okay, I give up. I will repost the article on my user page if you would kindly highlight the specific sentences that are unacceptable. I'm bored of second guessing what might be deemed acceptable. I appreciate that you guys have standards to uphold, but compared to the vast majority of organisation articles, mine is pretty objective as far as I can see. Wikipedia isn't a place to talk about how awesome a foundation is. This includes their many many achievements. Things that are an exact copy of a previously deleted article will just get deleted. Tone it down, maybe introduce any controversies that exist, have third party coverage (news coverage) about the article, and you'll be good to go. — kikichugirl speak up! 21:34, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
