Howdy[edit]

Hi, KerryKing666, welcome to Wikipedia!

Howdy — hope you're having a good Tuesday. I just wanted to drop off a quick note to welcome you to Wikipedia, and to thank you for creating an account and for your recent contributions to the project.

If you haven't checked them out yet, you might want to check out some of the things your new account lets you do, such as customization (more) and your watchlist (more).

There are a few things you probably want to keep in mind as you traverse Wikipedia:

  • If you need somewhere to goof around with things, try the Sandbox — please don't edit articles just to test them. But when you feel ready to, you don't need to hesitantly ask permission — if you think you've got a solid contribution to make, we encourage you to be bold.
  • Please sign any message you leave on a talk page (not your contributions to an article, but any personal messages you might leave on an article's talk page or a person's talk page) with four tildes. This will sign your name. Four tildes look like this: ~~~~

More rules of the road can be found here, and a full list of policies can be found here.

If you'd like to learn more about Wikipedia, there are a few good places to start. Check out the welcome to newcomers, the introduction, and the tutorial.

If I can be of any help, please feel free to drop a line on my talk page by clicking below (if you do so, though, be sure to add my talk page to your brand-new watchlist to make it easier for you to check back there for my response). But since I'm not always available, you may get a quicker response by typing {{helpme}} on this page, and an experienced Wikipedian will shortly come around to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks ... and again, welcome! — Mike

Thanks for uploading Image:Jim LaMarca chimaira.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

License tagging for Image:Jesper Stromblad.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jesper Stromblad.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:07, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi KerryKing666, I recently saw your change of the clapton image from an earlier picture to one of his modern day pictures, do you think it would be possible for me to revert the change. Their was a consensus discussion on the talk page and a unanimous agreement that an older picture of clapton needed to be found to use instead of using a newer one of the tsunami concert. If you feel that this would be a problem please tell me and contribute to the picture discussion on the talk page so we can better a better community opinion. Thanks again - Patman2648 07:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto Jack Bruce. The more recent picture is still being included on the page next to the relevant information, so could we please leave the early picture in the infobox where it's next to the early information? Thanks. MightyMoose22 >Abort, Retry, Fail?_ 14:00, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I opened a discussion re:Jack Bruce on the articles discussion page. Feel free to express an opinion there before altering article images away from editor concensus. 156.34.142.158 15:16, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Charlie Watts.jpg)[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Charlie Watts.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:38, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On M Shadows image[edit]

Please don't use that image. It has a visible, ugly copyright thing on it, and we try not to use images like that on wikipedia. Note that I already brought this up on the talk page. --Improv 18:51, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Layne Staley picture[edit]

Please stop adding the picture of Staley to his article. It does not meet the specific Wikipedia guidelines about the use of copyrighted pictures:

"It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the music video in question."

Are we making critical commentary about Unplugged? We cannot use this picture solely to identify Staley. It's a clear violation of fair use guidelines. -- ChrisB 22:30, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You keep adding video screenshots to articles related to the subject...but screenshots can only be used in articles about the video source itself. You're putting a lot of work into uploading images of limited use and all your edits just keep getting rv'd because you aren't following the rules. Also, you keep changing lead images in articles without posting on the article talk pages to see if the regular editors are in agreement on the changes you wish to make. Which is bad protocol and....like the Fair Use issue...will simply see all your hard work be for nothing as your edits will likely be deleted. Be bold, but also try to work with concensus too or else you'll get blacklisted and your edits will all be scrutinized good or bad. Just a few friendly words of advise to help you. Read WP:FU it'll help you in the future. 142.166.244.19 01:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another warning about Fair Use images[edit]

You've already been given several warnings before. Read Wikipedia Policy WP:FU. Video screen captures cannot be used in articles that are not specific to the video in which the screen capture was taken. The Vid cap that you keep putting in the Ozzy Osbourne article is NOT Fair Use and cannot be used there. If you continue to keep rv'ing the article it can be seen as vandalism and a Wikipedia Administrator will be notified which could result in a block. Read all of the Wikipedia policies before you try to edit anymore. They are easy to read policies and you will benefit from reading them.

Image:John_Campbell.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:John_Campbell.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 06:49, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Andrew_WoodMLB.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Andrew_WoodMLB.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
