Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William Everleigh‎[edit]

Actually, I ended up nominating the article myself. I have to agree with your suspicion that this is complete junk. But still not patent nonsense. :-) Pascal.Tesson 01:03, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas[edit]

Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.

As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].

For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.

If you do not wish to receive further notices about the COTA please remove your name from our notify list. --Cspurrier 20:59, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to speek with you[edit]

Hi, I've noticed you seem to be trying your best as an admin for the wellfare of others, and I'd like to thank you for you're work, and it appears as you said, we did meet before. But I want to get to the point, so I wish to clarify my charges, for specification's sake, and ask a few questions myself. First, I wouldn't consider myself a former vandal, but a former semi-disruptive editor, first I messed with my buddie of 6 year's page and second I we together made 25 or so accounts, though I'm not sure we edited the mainspace with them (don't remember). If you want another checkuser to see that Kkrouni and Rocco made none or fewer than at least 3 edits together, do so, and if you think I'm some 35 year old weirdo, you'll see some edits made from my school. I do appoligise for what I've done, and realise making all of those accounts was a bad idea, but to my memory, I never vandalised in the article space, or Wikipedia space (though Rocco used an account to remove chunks of stuff off of the main talk page). I'm sorry if I seem to be harassing other editors like Marlith and I'm sorry. I tried to do my best at editing . So now I've lost most of my care for here, I'll let you do checkuser on this account, and my IP, and Rocco's IP weekly or each day, for I'm going to try to leave, and move on to forums, where there are slower politics. I'm sorry for annoying Marlith, I'm sorry for what I've done but sorry changes nothing and I did make those accounts as a joke, although we seem to differ in oppinion about what's funny and acceptable. I don't see what I've done wrong, and you could have taken away my tools if I got up the ladder and did something stupid, but alas, I've got no more fight, I give you win, you may do checkuser, by all means, this place truely does stink. Sincerely, YДмΔќʃʀï→ГC← 10-15-2007 • 21:59:09

But I'm currious, what makes everyone hate me here, and enjoy me in real life? Is it I'm more casual and less defensive? Do I know people better? Is it my stubornness. YДмΔќʃʀï→ГC← 10-15-2007 • 22:09:09
There is an adage...
"If we didn't like you, we wouldn't talk to you." People do not hate you around here, and certainly neither Raul nor I want to see you gone or you would have been a long time ago. I don't need to file a checkuser to prove something that we all know is true. All that I ask is that you edit using a single account and disengage in the sockpuppetting, which is why I blocked Kkrouni. There are legitimate uses for socks, but pretending to be different users while communicating with a single user is disruptive. Keep up the good work that you've been doing and settle down into regular editing. And do your best to remember that Wikipedia is not a social networking site, and the community only exists to aid in the building of the encyclopedia. Best wishes, contact me any time for help. Protection of Henry Hudson[edit]

Hi - thanks for protecting Henry Hudson again, but are you sure that 2 days is long enough? Last time round, it was protected for 3 weeks, and the vandalism started up more or less immediately the protection expired. I wouldn't have thought that 2 days is long enough for IP editors to get bored / get the message... Just a thought. Regards, BencherliteTalk 22:32, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good stuff. Hopefully in one month's time, the school curriculum will have moved on to something else! Regards, BencherliteTalk 08:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Question[edit]

I was wondering if you would do an article on 2 things. An article on S.K.Y. feat Stephanie Konkas & Trance Airwave. S.K.Y. feat Stephanie Konkas has been known all over since 2005. It has come up numerous times in search engines Google, Yahoo and others. You must type in Stephanie Konkas in the search engines for most of the sites. Trance Airwave is another one I'd like you to write about. It has a myspace page where you can get information and I'm currently working on an official site for it as well. Please write an article on these 2 projects of mine.

Successful RfA - Thank you![edit]

Thank you for participating in my recent RfA. It was successful, and I was promoted to Administrator today. I appreciate your comments and will take them to heart as I learn the ropes. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:10, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thanks for that essay; now that I have the tools, I find that I'm very, very nervous about using them! I assume that goes away with time and practice. Dppowell 03:54, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a ton. Dppowell 03:58, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...[edit]

...for the kind words, I appreciate it. It's kinda unclear how much free time I'll have to devote to the wiki, but I missed being part of the liberal / conservative / atheist / fundamentalist / whatever cabal, so I've been polishing the banhammer (um... I mean, the kind, welcoming templates... yeah). It's nice to be missed.

Any big changes to policy over the past few months that you can think of which I may have missed? Tijuana Brass 00:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Noomie[edit]

What is your conflict? (Note: that wasn't supposed to sound condescending; sorry if it does.) The article was unsourced, and I don't see anything on Google that makes me suspect it has any sort of notability whatsoever. But if you think otherwise, I'm certainly willing to listen. -- Mike (Kicking222) 06:15, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ooooooh, "deletion conflict"! Hahaha, my bad! Clearly, I'm quite new to the whole admin thing. Of course, "deletion conflict" is like "edit conflict" but a different kind of conflict. Anyway... it's also late. :) Thank you for the kind words. I like wielding the mop. It's fun, and it benefits this spectacular project.
That picture was really scary. -- Mike (Kicking222) 06:22, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Same to you. Also, dear god... the pages needing speedying are coming faster than I can delete them! GAH! -- Mike (Kicking222) 06:28, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you bunches![edit]

Thank you so much for suppporting my RfA. I was promoted with a total of (44/1/0) - a vote of confidence from the community that I find humbling and motivating. I will not abuse your trust. Look forward to working with you! (Esprit15d 21:28, 5 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:N24680.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:N24680.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA nom[edit]

Wow, thanks for the offer. I know that some RfA regulars think that too many co-noms is a sign of something or other, but I'm sure one co-nom won't hurt. I'm holding off transcluding as the next 7/10 days are going to be busy for me at work and (especially) at home, with limited time on the computer allowed when I get home. I didn't want there to be an unfortunate situation where I was unable to answer optional questions (c.f. some of the comments on Majorly's RfA and he's far better known round here) - particularly as at the moment Wikipedia is a "banned" website at work as too many rude words on one page (Talk:Main Page, would you believe?!) tripped the pornography filter yesterday - so there's this embarrassing delay in formally accepting and getting the ball rolling. Thanks, and I'll let you know when I'm going live. Regards, BencherliteTalk 08:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.

Thanks![edit]

Howdy Keegan, thanks for the nomination and many kind words of support in my request for adminship. I am happy to say the nomination was successful, and I am looking forward to getting wot work. I greatly appreciate your vote of confidence. By all means, feel free to check in on my work to come. Suggestions and advice are always appreciated. Thanks again,

My RfA[edit]

Hi; thanks for your support to my RfA, which closed successfully at (51/1/2). I'll keep this brief since I don't like spamming anyone: I'll work hard to deserve the trust you placed in me. Thanks again. — Coren (talk) 23:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, once again[edit]

Thanks for your co-nom of my RfA. I hope that my adminship is as uneventful as the RfA proved to be! I'll be sure to ask you for help / guidance if when I need it, and please let me know if there's anything I can improve about my use of the tools. Regards, BencherliteTalk 08:50, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Has been some reversion taking place on that page (in which I was involved). The article could certainly use some improvement, but it's good to get that sorted out. Thanks- John Nevard (talk) 06:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright on Stanislav Petrov[edit]

You stated in [4] that there was no copyright violation in the revision of Stanislav Petrov which you restored, but is a derivative of a revision which is pure copyright infringement. Do you doubt that the base version is a copyright violation, do you think that copyrights on the Internet expire more quickly, or what?--Chealer (talk) 13:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't blank a page with a copyvio notice based on a three year old revision. If you'd like the revision deleted from the logs that's fine, but do your best to not disrupt the entire article. Keegantalk 06:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but copyright for this kind of works last over 10 years in most countries, and Wikipedia respects at least this duration.--Chealer (talk) 13:39, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm saying is that revisions that are direct copyright violations can be wiped from the logs. The current revision of the article is not a copyright violation even if there once was in the past. The article is completely reworded- the owners of the original copyright do not have a claim against the current article (which is properly sourced by the way). The entire article and its history do not merit deletion as copyright violations because of an old revision. Keegantalk 18:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let's suppose you're right; from which revision is the article completely reworded?--Chealer (talk) 23:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Official thanks, slightly delayed due to post-RfA crash (who knew?)[edit]

Hi! I can't call out on my phone until I pay the bill, and I don't get paid until Friday. But, you might be able to call me. :(

re:Canadian Classifieds deletion[edit]

Hi. I wish to appeal the deletion of this article from last week but see it's gone and a hangon tag cannot therefore be added. I believe this entry is noteworthy due to the Usenet technology employed alongside Web technolgy. There are thousands of sites providing these Web services but none of them use both technolgies. Are you aware that the Web and Usenet are different things? If not, would you be able to refer this appeal to someone with more of an I.T. background to review? Or did I just word the whole entry incorrectly, can youu recommend any style changes? This is the only site among 1000's of others in its class bridging both technolgies, it is both unique and distinct, if that's not noteworthy I really don't know what is.
