overlinking

I noticed that you added some wikilinks in the Skyhook article. This is generally not done with disambiguation pages. Quoting from Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages), Unlike a regular article page, do not wikilink any other words in the line, unless they may be essential to help the reader determine where they might find the information. --rogerd 18:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Mongol invasion of Central Asia

Hi, you placed a {{cleanup}} tag on Mongol invasion of Central Asia, without any explanation. After the article has gone through extensive peer review last year and is listed in Wikipedia:Good articles, there may be some misunderstanding involved. Care to elaborate? Please note that in general it is considered good style to explain the placement of maintenance tags on the respective talk page. Otherwise people may not be able to correctly identify and address your concerns, which renders the tag alone rather useless. --Latebird 22:39, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Computer science

Hi, I think you have a misconception about what Computer science covers. It doesn't cover commercial products or most applications. Those would be properly covered under something like Computing or Information technology. Computer science is really about research and the academic discipline. I'm going to revert those edits; you can try adding them to another project if you wish. --Ideogram 05:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Question about Talk Page icons

This is going to sound like a completely stupid question, but is there a centralized, comprehensive repository of Wikipedia SVG icons, such as those you have on your Talk page? I'd love to be able to find some that are relevant to my Talk page, but I don't know where to look. (By the way, just as an FYI, in order to respond to a post on your Talk page, you have to reply on the other person's Talk page, thereby triggering a new message notification. Else they'll probably never see your response.) --Nonstopdrivel 18:31, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you kindly for your extremely prompt response. I've asked a number of people this same question, but you are the only one who has taken time to respond. It's editors like you who make Wikipedia an enjoyable place to spend time. --Nonstopdrivel 18:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Talk:Norbert Ceulemans, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Talk:Norbert Ceulemans fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

page was deleted, talk page stayed

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Talk:Norbert Ceulemans, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Talk:Norbert Ceulemans itself. Articles about the works themselves and the forms and genres.

We look forward to welcoming you to the project! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Please remember

( talk:Raymond Hood ) to fill in the edit summary slot - even/especially when doing assessment - which is something that many of us are not that thrilled with to begin with. If you were NOT doing an assessment, will, fill it in anyway, please. Carptrash 02:40, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

No, no. please don't stop what you are doing. But putting something in the Edit Summary helps me out a lot while I am patrolling my articles. I have 1,000 or so on my watch list and i use the edit summaries to decide what edits to check. I am also not happy with a lot of the assessing that is going on because it is being performed by the uninformed. I would rather folks corrected or improved what they think needs work rather than leaving a TAG stating that someone else should be doing it. I have gotten into hissy fits with some types about this, though none of us has managed to change each other's minds. Discovering that there is (how it looks to me) a competition among the assessors to see who can do the most assessments has not helped my mood as it is pretty clear to me that Speed Kills - as we used to say in the 1960s. So I am sorry if I accused you of being a part of that nefarious plot when you are not. Life is good. Carptrash 14:45, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on The sleepover disaster, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Peter Tobin article reversion

Your reversion of this edit was marked as having broken references. I couldn't see what you meant, as this revision seems to work just fine for me. What problems did you see? I'd moved the coordinates into a reference because they referred to the text at that point, rather than the page as a whole. I'd be interested to know what you saw broken. TimR (talk) 14:12, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

You wrote "When I viewed the page last, the references had disappeared entirely along with the categories, after (and presumably somehow as a result of) your edit. I didn't have the time just then to figure out why, hence the revert."
Thanks. I'll play around with it again to see whether I can get it to break as you saw it. If it seems to behave itself, I'll put the change back, but keep an eye on any comments. (Just a thought, I'll log out and check it. It may be something in my own account which is making it work for me. Perhaps if it looks OK for me and you're still seeing no references you could also try logging out to see whether that changes anything.) Thanks for your time. Hello Katharineamy, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended use of reverting vandalism: I do not believe you will abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. Rollback use

Hi Katharineamy, as you know, I'm the admin who granted you rollback, as I believed that you would use it for reverting obvious vandalism. However, I came across this edit, which didn't look like you were reverting vandalism, and then I found a few more edits that I wasn't happy with: [2] [3] [4] Can you please explain why you reverted those using rollback? None of them looked like obvious vandalism, and should have been reverted with a proper explanation. Thank you. Acalamari 18:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. No, I won't remove your rollback for those diffs, as I prefer to discuss with a user first rather than remove rollback rights from them: I had a look at some at some of your other reverts later, and they looked fine, so yes, your reverts have mostly been good, but I still wanted to ask about the other diffs. Anyway, I accept your explanation, and if you plan to be more careful in future with the rollback tool, then you'll be fine. :) Best wishes and happy editing. Acalamari 19:10, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Fruit Loop

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fruit Loop, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?Lincolnite (talk) 17:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Biography Project banners

Hi. This is just a note to say it's unnecessary to add Biography Project banners to Opera Project-scope articles (e.g. Talk:Yvonne Gall) as the Opera Project is now doing assessments. All the best. --Kleinzach 00:54, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. No, the Opera Project decided not to be affiliated with the Biography Project. (The Biography Project Musicians Group does popular music which is something completely different.) Obviously multiple banners are on many pages now - and there's no law against it - but the original reason for this was because a lot of projects did not do assessments (or so it was claimed). Best. --Kleinzach 08:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Two points, Katharine (if I may), (1) banners that are not functional are just spam - of course if they are properly nested it's much less of a problem (2) if you really want to work on opera articles then you are most welcome to join the Opera Project. It's one of the most dynamic, rapidly developing projects on WP. Most editors are multilingual and copyediting standards approach those of print. Best. --Kleinzach 13:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Biography stubs

Hey. I've noticed you've been removing assessments where the article is no longer a stub. That's fine, thanks for doing that. However, I think it would be move constructive to just uprate the article on the projects to start-class, rather than just remove it. This way it's still assessed, and our backlog of unassessed doesn't continue to increase. Thanks, Wizardman 18:06, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Comment

Hello Katharineamy. How should we proceed to delete the stub for Grace Bible College (Ohio) since there's no college there. There is the church Grace Cathedral - Akron, which does have classrooms for study groups, but it is not being called the college. It is now a functioning church since its refurbishments have been completed. The Ernest Angley Ministries does offer a strictly online Bible college through it's website, so I think there's been some confusion with some of the stubs/articles and some third party misreports in the past. Ernest Angley now has two functioning churches, the main branch in Cuyahoga Falls and the smaller and recently refurbished church in Akron where they're to have weekly youth services as part of the youth ministry programs. There is no 'Grace Bible College' anywhere on that building. So I suggest the deletion of the stub titled 'Grace Bible College (Ohio). WalesJM1970 (talk) 03:05, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm a BIG Hughart fan (have multiple first editions including one signed and inscribed - to someone else) but was bemused at your creation of this new category. Given that he only wrote three books ever, this may be one of the coolest micro-categories extant! I'm kind of bummed that several Hughart external links are now dead (e.g., to the original draft of Bridge of Birds). Anyway, keep contributing - the world needs to know how wonderful these works are, and accurately, neutrally, and thoroughly chronicling them here in wikipedia is a good thing to do. -- Quartermaster (talk) 23:16, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Cansei de Ser Sexy songs, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

duplicate (Category:CSS songs)

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Category:Cansei de Ser Sexy songs|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

Hi. I was wondering why you changed this individual from Category:Possibly living people to Category:Year of death missing? Cheers, CP 14:55, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Right, and I agree that you are most likely correct, but that's not how the WP:BLP policy works. Unless there's evidence that they are deceased, we cannot just assume that they are, unless they're over a certain age. Take Sam Dana for example. It was only until about a year before his death that people realized that he was actually still alive! As you can see here, there's plenty of (as far as I'm concerned, non-notable, but protected by WP:BIO anyhow) Olympic athletes that are so obscure that their dates of birth and death are not likely to be known. I've been riding on the assumption that, so long as they are younger than Signe Johansson-Engdahl, who was declared the oldest living former Olympian, that they should at least belong in "Possibly living". I do agree that, yeah, he's probably deceased, but I made that mistake with Betty Tancock, and her relatives emailed the Wikipedia Foundation to complain that she was listed as deceased! So, per WP:BLP, he should be moved back to "Possibly living". Cheers, CP 15:03, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Lily Allen

I just wanted to leave a note of thanks. I recently made a few edits to the Lily Allen article which, in my opinion, lacked grammatical accuracy and professionalism in only a few instances in a small paragraph. User Rror reverted the article back to the previous edit - for reasons that I am having trouble imagining. I did receive a message suggesting that I maintain a neutral point of view when editing, and that I not introduce bias. I can't find the connection.

At any rate, I wanted to say thank you.

Hello

I noticed you added the category "Living persons" to a couple of articles I edited. I seem to recall there was a discussion about this awhile back and I was under the impression the category no longer is in use. Am I mistaken? (IMHO, it's so ridiculous it shouldn't have been created in the first place!) 209.247.22.161 (talk) 21:28, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

It is a mistake to shoehorn Arabic names into the English style of surnames

No offense, but I think it is a big mistake to shoehorn Arabic names into the English style of surnames. Geo Swan (talk) 07:48, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your additions on James B Aguayo-Martel. How best to add to this entry? How does one increase "links" to page.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Category:DÅÅTH albums has been superseded

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:DÅÅTH albums, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:DÅÅTH albums has been superseded by a similar category (typos in name, expanding abbreviations, fixing capitalisation, renaming to comply with the "by country" format and conversions from singular to plural or vice versa). (CSD C2).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:DÅÅTH albums, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Calling all active WP:NOVELS members

WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 17:50, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Guy Martin

  • Hi, you reverted a minor edit I made to this article. I was trying to a add a bit more of an introduction to the person of Guy, rather than leave the gibberish you reverted to. What the heck is "one piece tier 6"? . I am sorry that you think the previous gibberish is more relevant than what I wrote, and I will refrain from adding any more, including adding any much-needed references. Best wishesSpoilydoily (talk) 12:36, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
    • You obviously don't know Guy Martin. it has been known for hundreds of fans to turn up at race meetings wearing false Guy sideburns, and bring him kilos of Yorkshire tea. It is part of the legend of the man, and therefore, in my opinion, relevant. Like I say, you obviously don't know him. One thing for sure, well as I 'know' him, I have never heard of 'one piece tier 6' so could you please reference this gibberish seeing as you reverted it ?Spoilydoily (talk) 14:17, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
    • Seeing as you don't wish to debate this subject, and you refuse to interpret your previous drivel, I will revert the article to read sense. What was inappropriate about my tone?? BTW, I don't expect an answer, given your history of random edit reversalsSpoilydoily (talk) 18:42, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
      • You are really beginning to annoy me. Please give me the Wiki policy on 'casual or inappropriate tone' when writing an article. Are you referring to formality, referencibility or notability? A bit of advice...give up the 'random page' thing (i.e finding and patrolling); that way you won't find so many pages you know nothing about.Spoilydoily (talk) 09:40, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
        • Well, nobody's enlightened me yet which begs the question "Why do revert additions when you don't have a clue what they are about?" Again, give me the Wiki policy on "casual" tone in articles, or, more to the point, "reverting just because Katharineamy doesn't think it interesting?"Spoilydoily (talk) 14:15, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
        • So, instead of reverting it, why didn't you either move it, or suggest it be moved (on the discussion page) to a bulleted trivia section as per the policy?Spoilydoily (talk) 14:46, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
          • Harassment is someone exercising their POV without discussing it first, funnily enough, just like you did.Spoilydoily (talk) 15:00, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
