I'm getting a bit tired of this[edit]

Heya, I see you've archived. That's fine. You still haven't actually changed anything to your manifesto page though, even though you are exceptionally biased. At the same time you've removed my comments from the page, before I had a chance to discuss that further with you (as I had promised I would).

This is all quite unfortunate.

Just going to say hey[edit]

I don't know how traumatic your Talk page has been lately ( I can only imagine....very....) but I wanted to chip in and say I support you for what you have done. Undoing an admin action of Jimbo may not be the wisest thing ever, but on the other hand I don't think he should be held to some lower standards than all the rest of us. The whole point of the wiki idea is that we can all edit each other, and the whole point of Admin actions being reversible is to enforce the need for a consensus on Administrative actions....you are empowered by the design of the software as an Administrator to reverse the actions of any other Administrator. The culture that has developed around that on this particular wiki is that you should contact the Admin you're reversing, discuss it with them, blah blah blah, but that doesn't always happen, and imo that doesn't always have to happen. But the point remains that fundamentally, by the design of the software, you can reverse Admin decisions. I don't think Jimbo should be exempt from that just because he's Jimbo...if you're going to build a community that is based on the idea of collaboration, communication, and mutual accountability, you have to live by the same rules that everyone else on the community does, or you'll lose the respect of the community. Best wishes, and should you decide to go to RfA, contact me (I may not be watching Wikipedia that actively, since I'm on Wikibreak) so send me an e-mail or something, and you'll have my support. please remove deletion box[edit]

Admin User:Interiot seemed agree that the revised userbox Template:User CDP-USA is OK, when he replied at Template talk:User CDP-USA, yet he failed to remove the deletion box on the main page. Apparently, I as the creator am not allowed to do so. Would you please do this for me, so I can remain WikiLegal? Thanks.

Apology over manifesto[edit]

I'm sorry for being a snarky dick about the manifesto. I don't think less of you personally and don't doubt your sincerity.

I should outline my problems with it on the talk page. They pretty much go: (1) Wikipedia is a project with a community, not a community with a project. (2) In the US Constitution, the purpose of separation of powers is specifically to keep government from getting too efficient; in a project with a focus, that's grossly counterproductive. (3) I notice that most of the people signing the manifesto are in fact people who've come on board in the last few months, i.e. relative newbies.

I'll think of more, put them on the page and stop being snarky. I'm sorry for offending - David Gerard 07:48, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newbies aren't subject to groupthink or Jimbo worshipping. That's probably the reason, although I noticed the sigs of a couple of veteran administrators. I have a feeling that most admins and veteran editors are opposed to it because it dares to bring some checks into their lives. --Dragon695 04:54, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Welcome Karmafist[edit]

Hi Karmafist, I appreciate your welcome. I was wondering if you and any others that read this could help me by checking out my article which is proposed for deletion and Chime in on the AfD discussion. I have proved that my article falls within Wikipedia's guidelines as a legitimate article, but I'm at a point where I feel the article is being blackballed by certain Wikipedia admins. After I've stated my case and provided what is necessary within the article to meet Wikipedias guidelines, Admins are coming back with statements like "Lastly, by your nitpicking every bit of the rules, you are not ensuring that the article will survive; however, you are finding the flaws in the rules that will likely be tightened up after this AFD regardless of the outcome." How am I supposed to state my case and see which guidelines to go by without referring to said guidelines? I've also read within Wikipedia guidelines "When in doubt, don't delete" So, all I'm asking is for some level headed Wikipedians to read the article and AfD and chime in with a vote based on whether my article truly falls within Wikipedia's guidelines or not. The article is everyonesacritic.net Thanks for listening and again, thanks for the welcome. --Dave 12:46, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate you coming over to the AFD and putting in your 2 cents. I also appreciate the note you left on my user page in regards to all this. I just quickly want to respond to you bringing up violation of WP:AUTO. The thing is, the article is about a website in which my brother Dan is at the helm. I didn't create, nor do I administer the site. I am a member and I do believe in the site, but I don't think it qualifies as Autobiographical. Attempts to expand CSD T1[edit]

There is a movement underway to insert language at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion that would expand CSD T1 to include anything anywhere, including user space, that could be transcluded. Hello[edit]

Just saw your post on Wikipedia Review, so hopefully I won't be moved to the POTW archive again. I understand you probably weren't yourself at the time you (effectively) banned me from your talk (or at least that's the impression I get from your more recent comments). No hard feelings, right? I just want to explain that I really reluctantly opposed your RfA because while I think that in the long run you will be an asset to Wikipedia, right now some of the stuff in your userspace (i.e. the Wikiphilosophies page) are bordering on ABF (if they haven't crossed the line yet). If you could cut out the 5% that is really ABF, like the insinuation that IRC is a cabal, I won't oppose. (I'm not asking for the total removal of things like your Wikiphilosophies, since I see a lot of useful stuff in there.) Johnleemk | Talk 09:48, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I understand your sentiments WRT "cabalism", since I was never in the loop before I got IRC or joined the mailing list. I still think Jimbo and most of the IRCers/mailing list members do a terribly poor job of publicising decisions made outside the wiki -- if you look back, I have said a number of times that not enough is done to inform people, "Hey, we folks at IRC/the mailing list think this is a pretty good idea, but we want your input on it too". (I think when Jimbo banned anons from creating new articles, I said something to this effect.) Although I think often the decision made is the right one, this eventually ends up wasting more time arguing over whether this was the right thing to do and whether it was done correctly, when all this could have been resolved beforehand. It's also worth noting Demi's law: "There are only two kinds of actions that can be taken on a wiki: those that can be described as unilateral and those that can be described as supporting a cabal." Perhaps you could reword your Wikiphilosophies to emphasise that the cabal doesn't necessarily exist -- it just appears to because Jimbo tends to rely more on the mailing list and IRC than the wiki nowadays. I should probably mention that I find your remarks on policymaking at the same page rather...disturbing. Anyway, there's no need to rush this discussion. Hop on IRC sometime, and we can talk. :) Johnleemk | Talk 15:58, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for your kind words on the graphic for WP:GURU! (Sorry, I'm a little slow right now on answering my messages.) Glad to help, since I used your excellent list of Wiki stuff to build my own list.

As far as WP:GURU goes, I put a slightly similar idea on the pump awhile back... didn't get too much support... it was for something called Senior Editor or whatever, the basic thrust being, its natural for people to want recognition, but at Wikipedia the only formal recognition is to become an admin... which many don't want, which some aren't suited for, etc., so maybe a parallel kind of thing where one can get formal recognition for contributions w/o getting adminned.... enh, maybe if Guru goes down I'll work it up... in my copious spare time... Your RfA[edit]

Good buddy,

I know the (self-censored adjective) arbcom shouldn't have screwed you in the first place, but I think answering the questions with something (maybe short bits, ala Sam Spade at his recent RfA) is still good form. I'm sure you have lots to say anyway; and I hope you don't want the (self-censored, again) opposition to best you on a technicality. Best wishes -- Xoloz (who is trying a long vacation)

When is the city election? I am really into this kind of thing so please keep me updated on what's going on up there in New Hampshire-GOOD LUCK --WikieZach| talk 18:13, 25 February 2006 (UTC)WikieZach| talk 12:23, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I work at the forign desk. We handle stories in and out of certain countries. But since I am also working on degrees, I'm a very busy person. I have twice been the replacement at the desk that handles important trials (Saddam Hussien, CIA Leak, etc.) Sorry, some days I just don't pay attention. ;) --WikieZach| talk 19:20, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

Right now it's no consensus/failing, mate, but don't worry if you don't make it on this try - Guanaco did take 4 tries. I'm sure there's a bunch of people ready to nominate you again in, say, April... Throwing my hat into the ring once again ;) NSLE (T+C) at 01:19 UTC (2006-02-26)

A note from the Admin Coaching coordinator[edit]

Hello, coaches. As you can see, there is a significant backlog at the Esperanza Admin Coaching program. Since we do not want users to have to wait forever to get assigned, I'm asking all of you for a status report. If you feel that you are done, that your coachee is not active enough, or that you could handle the extra load from another coachee, please tell me in my talk page as soon as possible. Thanks! Thanks for the Welcome KARMAFIST[edit]

..though I have been editing on here for quite a long time now lol ;-)

Keep up all your editing though - I don't think I will ever make quite as much of a contribution as yourself. Simmyymmis 13:52, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome man. (Bloodredchaos 17:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Abqaiq terrorist attack[edit]

Please delete the "Abqaiq terrorist attack" redirect. It is incorrect, and a page on the actual attack is more likely to be created if it's a dead link. KI 18:02, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template substitution[edit]

Please substitute your templates by typing subst: in the tag ( {{subst:welcome}} instead of {{welcome}} ). As a general rule, most, if not all usertalk templates should be substituted. Thanks. -Mulder416 18:22, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Substituting places the template directly on the page as if you had typed in it's entire code, rather than loading the template every time a page is viewed. Substituting reduces server load, and prevents vandalism from spreading like wildfire (If someone vandalised a welcome template, the vandalism would show on every page with that template if it wasn't substituted). There is a list of templates that should, should not, must, and must not be substituted, generally speaking, if the template's only purpose is to place plain text, it should be substituted, but if it contains complex code that would break, then it should not be substituted. -Mulder416 18:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. That's a lot of edits. I'm glad I found you when I did. Usually when I tell a person to sub their stuff, I'll go through their contribs and sub the old ones for them, but you've done way to many for me to tackle quickly. You should definitely substitute every new one you make.
Naah, it's just the servers. You wouldn't make that much of a difference in traffic as just one person. -Mulder416 21:35, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Something else to think about[edit]

Did you notice that today's FA was History of Portugal (1777–1834)? I think that it's more important right now that you think about things like that rather than the competition with yourself with which you seem to be engaged. I feel badly about your RfA and your car problem (or whatever) but the best thing for you right now is to leave the past behind. Give things a rest, and by that I mean don't be overly upset about your RfA or overly eager for your next nomination, it's better a month late rather than a minute early.

Do your good work, don't try to break any stupid records, play by the rules and do some significant article work and then (better a day late than a minute early, oops, did I already say that) c'mon back for RfA if that's important to you. Your value here isn't measured on whether or not you're an Admin or how many newcomers you've placed a template upon but rather the overall measurement of your substance and worth here. It's subjective and not gauged by so much by metrics as impression. Fair or unfair as that may seem to you, that is the way that it is. Please don't consider adminship as some kind of bragging right, it isn't, it's a so what. Most folks don't consider Admins as superior (especially after having dealt with some) so don't let your merit here seem to depend on whether or not you are one. Don't let this setback take away you ideals for a better WP, but rather a learning experience as to how to better nudge things along. Best wishes for your successful comeback, hydnjo talk 23:00, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From one Jerk to another[edit]

I find your comments here to be nothing less then personal attack aginst me, so you have basically violated WP:NPA, WP:AFG, WP:CIVIL, as well as WP:DICK. I am not so much dissapointed at that you made the jerkish comment, but that you will not repremanded for it in a way that i have been for far less. If you have a problem with me, i rather you take it up with me, and be a jerk to me direclty, then put up your jerkish attitude w/o confronting me. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 23:22, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I did a few months ago, but you wouldn't remember that considering your impressive record. I'm fairly honored, you've become legendary for your rudeness(you've become a meme on here), and you're saying i'm rude. Thank you, you just made me smile :-) Karmafist 23:25, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No i am not saying that you are, it seems apparent from your comment that you are. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 23:40, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, i'm just rude to rude people. It's a slight weakness, but i've seen worse ;-) Have a nice day, bud. Karmafist 23:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Would not think anything less from an Esperanza member, whats the charter state now, it's ok that we violate the rules that we enforce aginst useres we dont like, typical. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 23:45, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, actually i'm following the spirit of Esperanza to the letter. We're about niceness, and I try my best to defend niceness from its' enemies, and with your reputation, i'd say you fit into that category, but it's not too late. You can always change. Anyone can change and become a better person. Karmafist 23:47, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhhhhhhh okkkkkk i see, so it's we defend niceness by not being nice about other users who are not like us, instead we decide to "act like they do" to defend the niceness of the community. Well you sure are the poster boy for that. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 23:52, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
SO what am i supposed to feel sorry for you now. You know nothing about me, and you only think you know what i do and whom i am by the accounts of other users, i am not out here to make people feel happy bad or what ever, and for the most part i could care less if they are or not. Your comments havnt shown anything represenative of what Esperanza should be, and are more of what its not. Ulness its know lets foster a community of like minded people, and people who dont act like us we will just berate to other mebers of the community so that their contrubutions are disregarded as nothing but "trolling", what ever the fuck that is anymore, or "vandalism". Your contrubutioins have also shown that you are complety ingnorant abount me outside of the "conterversal" aspects. Oh and your comments about "sabotaging" you, give me a break. You know it attitudes like yours that arnt any much better for "fostering a commuinty", as for my self i could care less about fostering a commuinty here, at least in the way that it being done. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 00:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Subsection[edit]

Just look at your talk page. I thanked you first off, then I wished you a nice day, then I offered to help you, and all of this from a statement of an accepted opinion -- you are renowned for being rude and obstinent on Wikipedia. And in return, you troll, and yet i'm still not angry at you. Hell, like I said before, if anything, i'm honored by your trolling, usually you don't talk to people at all. I must be worth your time since you keep on talking to me. Hold on, be right back. Karmafist 23:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thats wonderful, do you want a cookie now, and i dont asept your help, as i dont see anything you could ever help me with. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 00:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Boothy, given that you are famed -- one might even say "renowned" -- for usually ignoring people who ask in good faith why you act the way you do, I really don't see what you're complaining about here. "You should have made your complaint directly to me, so that I could ignore it?" Please. You have made your bed, and now you are sleeping in it. Any lumps in the mattress are entirely of your own making. Nandesuka 23:26, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPA violation on Booth443[edit]

I am blocking you for three hours for calling Boothy443 a jerk on Setanta's Talk page[4], in violation of WP:NPA. I am also blocking Boothy443 for three hours for calling you a jerk. Please refrain from name calling, and try to keep it civil. Thank you. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 01:04, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You've got to be kidding me. --Cyde Weys 01:08, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently. The admins are out of control now that i'm away, Cyde. Karmafist 01:12, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Jerk" is hardly a personal attack. This is ridiculous. I so badly want to unblock you, mate, but I am not going to wheel-war. NSLE (T+C) at 01:13 UTC (2006-02-27)
It isn't, especially considering that the arbcom is about the indefinately block him for being a jerk. Oh well. What do you think, NSLE? Sockpuppet? I was just replying to Boothy with this message...

Of course you don't care about fostering the community, that's how you've gotten into the state you're in. As for the non-controversial aspects, why not tell me about them? Your controversy isn't all that hard to solve, just stop being rude to people. Also, I proposed that idea since you seem to be a hateful person and enjoy being hateful to others, thus giving myself some good karma by helping you do what you enjoy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Karmafist (talkcontribs) Karmafist, you should sign your edits just like the rest of us do. hydnjo talk 03:47, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WTF? This is ludicrous. Blocking is preventive, not punitive. Warn people before you block them. Only block if the behaviour continues. Johnleemk | Talk 14:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why block him and not EVERYONE ELSE who calls someone a jerk? Hell even jimbo himself used the term jerk to describe people. Are you going to block him too? I think this was a) an abuse of admin powers and b) you were making a WP:POINT. Mike (T C) 17:59, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • This is a blatant violation of WP:AGF. Please don't make Karmafist look worse than he already does. See Hanlon's Razor (although a more polite word than "stupidity" should probably be used). Never ever ever ever ABF unless you're dealing with a confirmed troll. It's bad enough that it's common to ABF admins like Doc glasgow or Kelly Martin, but don't ABF somebody who has no record of being a jackass. Johnleemk | Talk 18:10, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Award[edit]

I award you this barnstar for standing up for the misunderstood and otherwise abused users of Wikipedia.

I've been meaning to hand out some barnstars to several especially outstanding Wikipedians lately, and I realized when Moe Epsilon declared an indefinite wikibreak that I'd better go ahead and do it before it's too late. I know you're in the middle of the userbox wars (or the larger underlying dispute between the merciless cabal and its victims) and you're apparently very busy in your life outside Wikipedia, but you still find the time to contribute to the community by welcoming hundreds of new users every day. I wish you good luck in your efforts to reform the project's power structure and to help the oppressed users and former users of Wikipedia. Whether you succeed or fail, I know for sure that you're intentions are noble and that you're acting in good faith. I sincerely appreciate your tireless efforts to improve the project. Not many Wikipedians would put their reputations on the line for selfless goals as you have. I hope this barnstar inspires you to continue editing boldly and carefully. You have certainly inspired me to do my part in fostering community spirit. Thanks for your contributions. --TantalumTelluride 05:24, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advisory Council Elections[edit]

I know that things haven't been going well on Wikipedia for you recently, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like, thanks to me, you will not win a seat on Esperanza's Advisory Council. You were tied with JoanneB but... well, read for yourself. I know it's not really my fault because I didn't cause the tie (because if another Wikipedian voted you'd still be tied after the problem), but still, I know how it feels to get one's hopes up only to have everything crumble later. --M@thwiz2020 20:53, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS - I read your responses on your RfA, and your are an extremely eloquent speaker :) --M@thwiz2020 20:53, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching-pending[edit]

RFA reply[edit]

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you what to do I'm just giving you my perspective. So, starting from there: you decided that in the first days of your re-Admin voting that it would be a good idea to do an edit marathon. Oh, sure that makes sense, not. You also decided to get into a troll-baiting dust-up with Boothy, oh sure, that makes a lot of sense not (whether or not you are an RfA candidate). Listen or not; you are at the edge, no need to push any further, do not at this point try to make a point.

So Karmafist, it finally does come down to your own decision. I believe that you can succeed here but you can't compare being an influence here to a rag-tag blustering effort in holding back Wal-Mart for a bit. So long as you put idealism above all then my friend you will continue to fail at WP (this ain't Merrimac NH). Learn perspective and patience. If you intend to influence, then politicing and bold brashness are not the way. hydnjo talk 23:52, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
