ESC and Flagicon templates[edit]

Kapitan,

I noticed you've altered a string of Eurovision articles by changing the {{Esc}} template with {{flagicon}}. Per description at Template:Esc, this is not desirable as the ESC template was designed to better improve the need of having to use 2 different templates. For example:

Your version

{{flagicon|France}} [[France in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999|France]] → France France.

ProjectEurovision's version

{{Esc|nation|y=1999}} →  France

If you notice, the project's version is simplified but does the same effect. There is a full list of simplified templates that have been specifically designed for WikiProjectEurovision which can be viewed at WP:ESC, which may be of help to you. Thanks. I hadn't really looked around the WikiProject nearly as much as I should've, but I will make sure to check it out soon. I must say I'm impressed with the level of detail on the WikiProject page - certainly a lot better managed than some other WikiProjects I've encountered.
You may've noticed that I've been tying up what I perceive as loose odds and ends around the older Eurovision pages. I'm doing this simply because the older pages, as freuqnelty happens, seem to be a bit lost in time compared to the newer ones. I very much like a bit of history, so I've been going through Eurovision history, and thought that I may as well tidy things up a bit. I've only come into Eurovision recently (only really coming into it after watching the 2013 contest) so I'm very new, so please forgive me if I screw up.
In the future, I'm guessing Eurovision history will be where I'll be spending most of my time (though my interests are great and varied) so I hope I contribute well. Kapitan110295 (talk) 11:13, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not to worry, I wasn't 100% sure if you were aware that ProjectEurovision has its own "simplified" templates, which do make the jobs of valued project members like you and I, a lot more easier to update articles. I've made a start adding the template to 1956 to 1964. Another good one that I've come across whilst doing that is that some are using |-bgcolor="gold" followed by ''' to make the winning entry on the results table become bold in font-weight. A simpler version for this would be to use |- style="font-weight:bold;background:gold". This does the same job of making the winning entry be bold in weight and gold in colour. And yes, the older articles do seem to have become lost in time and forgotten about. Ideally while the Eurovision season is quiet, this is when project members should be doing what bit they can to tidy-up these areas, but with real-life schedules, then they are easily forgotten. I am impressed with the work you've been carrying out though. Feel free to drop me a message any time if you need any assistance with anything project related. And thanks for the compliment regarding the level of detail within the project. I went through a major revamp of the entire project space to make navigating around and finding things much easier for everyone. Wesley Mᴥuse 11:22, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not sure if you know that the project also published a monthly newsletter (which appears on talk pages as follows):
Issue XXXV Project Eurovision
monthly

Click here to read the latest newsletter

At the time of publication the project statistics were as follows
Total Number of Members Active Members Inactive Members Total Number of Articles Number of Good Articles Number of Featured Articles Require Improvements
66 48 18 4906 16 4 1368
8 3 5 23 708

To discontinue receiving Eurovision newsletters and mini memorandums, please remove your name from here.

If you click on the newspaper icon of that, it will take you directly to the entire newsletter, which provides information about importance work going on within the project such as major project discussions and any new changes being rolled out. It also provides a list of "older" articles that get lost in time which require minor maintenance work. It may or may not be of help for you, but the option is there if you feel it will be beneficial. Wesley Mᴥuse 11:39, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Germany absence from Eurovision[edit]

Hi Kapitan, I just wanted to clear up an error on Eurovision Song Contest 1982. Germany were indeed absent from the finals of Eurovision Song Contest 1996. Wesley Mᴥuse 22:03, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
