Just a note to say thanks for your contributions to Iraqi Kurdistan legislative election, 2009. As the election approaches, we'd like to get as much info there as possible - and particularly get some pictures if you have any? Please contribute whatever you are able and put a message on my talk page if I can help at all. AndrewRT(Talk) 02:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kurdistan[edit]

Hi KRG Editor - thanks for your reply - very encouraging! Photos on Wikipedia are quite hard to get - the easiest if you could go out and take some pictures yourself - even relatively mundane things like polling stations, campaign posters, queues of voters would be great illustrations. Pictures of candidates are also great if you can get any. News agency photos unfortunately are generally copyright, which is a pain. If you can contact the photographer or agency and get them to release the photo under a free copyright license that would be ideal - but not always easy to do! Flickrs a great source, particularly as you can search for free content and contact people to ask them to release them under free content.

Any edits you could do to the election article would be great - particular adding referenced content! Btw, you can add references to "offline" content (i.e. books, magazines, newspapers that aren't on the internet) and to non-english sources.

My background - I'm from Britain and took an interest in Iraqi Politics after the invasion. I've always been interested in politics and democracy and I think Iraq is a fascinating case study in the development of a new democracy - which way will it go? Back to dictatorship, theocracy or evolve into a liberal democracy? We wait and see!

You're right about the Baha'i connection too - the founder of the Baha'i faith actually spent a few years in Kurdistan - mountains of Sulaymaniyah from what I remember. Baghdad is one of the holiest cities for the Baha'i Faith and would be a place of pilgrimage if the government allowed it! One day, maybe...

Let me know if I can help at all. AndrewRT(Talk)(WMUK) 14:57, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
