BBC 12-hour Editathon - large influx of new pages & drafts expected
AfC Reviewers are asked to be especially on the look out 08:00-20:00 UTC (that's local London time - check your USA and AUS times) on Thursday 8 December for new pages. The BBC together with Wikimedia UK is holding a large 12-hour editathon. Many new articles and drafts are expected. See BBC 100 Women 2016: How to join our edit-a-thon. - You will love this (I was reading through the journals AfDs bit above). It has the potential to be a PR disaster where articles are created on people considered non-notable. I wonder what articles will actually get created, which will be kept, and what feelings will be left unhurt at the end of it all? (The idea of a Wikipedia 'profile' as opposed to an 'article' is one that, while true in practice for some 'articles' (which are really profiles), will make many people queasy.) That is only the English Wikipedia. I have no idea what the inclusion standards are like on other language Wikipedias. Carcharoth (talk) 14:01, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
- That reminds me, I need to find out the username of one of the participants (a friend of ours) so I can offer some help if they run into... trouble in the future. - On a related note, Mary Gillham is not on that list but had some activity on the day in question - its been on my 'to do' list for a long time. Sadly she suffers from a lack of coverage in reliable sources despite being way above the notability threshold. I was surprised to see Guy on the talkpage... My wife met her through her work, and her current employer has the Mary Gillham archive (basically all her notebooks, notes, wildlife data records etc for last 30 odd years) but she just was not covered as much as she deserved by third parties. We tried to swing the Boaty McBoatface vote towards naming it after her... Only in death does duty end (talk) 16:05, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Lulu Press
Idly browsing your user page (I know), I saw that you have marked Lulu Press down as "masquerading as an academic publisher". I have published a couple of other things through them (a biography and some SF shorts) and have seen no suggestion that they might do this. - That refers to IGI Global, per comments like this. Lulu is a self-publishing shop, as you know, and the majority of links here seem to me to be added by the author, in the hopes of selling some copies. Guy (Help!) 20:14, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

- Guy, it might have helped if you'd told Xtremedood where they could appeal, and then perhaps they would have done it in the right place (WP:ARCA). I never thought I'd hear myself recommending a template over humanspeak, but I find the AE sanction template helpful, and (with practice) easy to use. It unfolds into a storm of useful information and links, for instance to where they can appeal. (Guess what, they have a threefold choice.) Admittedly, there's so much information that I generally find myself having to repeat the salient points to inexperienced users, but at least the template tells me what to tell them, if you see what I mean. Kiwi Farms article
Hi there, I made a minor edit or two to this article before it was deleted and saw your post at AN/I. Even though it seems the subject is related to some troll group, I think the subject is notable enough to have an article.
