Sorry about that. I am so new. Clearly. The removal of the Facebook link may be a bit of a problem. The entire nonprofit/foundation is based on getting started by a FB posting and the subsequent use by many people over the Philippines to ask for help, provide help, and bring communities together. [1] I would like to revert if it's possible but am not sure how to do it and don't want to break anything, including faith. Can you advise? Thanks.

A tag has been placed on Ofelia M. Samar-Sy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ofelia M. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you so much for catching my errors and omission. I added a citation for a quotation by Dr. Lim, and reformatted all citations using the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:REFB#Good_references page, templates. I appreciate the links on the submission page.

If there is anything else I need to do, I stand ready to do so. Again, thank you for your contribution.

Thank you for reminding me to use solid writing tools. I have made a number of changes and eliminated many words and phrases that were not necessary. Thank you for reconsidering. Judy Vorfeld 17:54, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Judy. I received your e-mail, but I prefer to discuss Wikipedia article improvements here on the Wiki so as not to fragment discussions. Sure, you can submit the article as many times as necessary as long as it's a little better each time. Actually, it's a good way to learn about Wikipedia policies improve your editing skills, while getting to know some other editors that you later may want to work with to improve articles.

I did fix a few of the formatting errors; I was kind of hoping that you would take the hint and do the rest of the list yourself. It's fine to keep working on it while it's waiting for review.

I would like to give you some advice:

  • You have figured out that Wikipedia requires references to sources to verify the information, and that's great. However, the preferred sources are the independent ones, such as news reports, magazine articles, reviews, etc., by journalists and authors not connected with Mr. Mahinay and his organizations. You have some of these, but you've put them in the "Further Reading" section, and are depending instead on the closely connected sources, such as organization web sites, to verify your facts. The more acceptable way is to reference as much material as possible from the independent sources, and to add the web sites of Mr. Mahinay's organizations to the External links section.
  • Your use of the table with the further reading is an unnecessary complication, since it leaves some of the info about a particular document in the reference section and some in the Further reading. It's simpler just to use bullet points, and also less susceptible to formatting errors. However, drafts are not turned down for unusual formatting; they are just changed later.

I hope this helps. I know that Wikipedia's article development process can be frustrating at times, but the result will be a much more encyclopedic article, and you'll have much less trouble if you decide to write another. —Anne Delong (talk) 03:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anne, and I am so grateful for your advice. Now that I've heard from you, I will go in and make changes accordingly, including completing what you started. Examples help me so much. Once I have completed everything, I will submit the article again. Judy Vorfeld 04:47, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Re https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Josh_Mahinay Hi, Tim. Thank you for taking time to review this entry. I did use some of the further reading sources as references within the body text. But there are two specific, important reasons I have a number of further reading excerpts. The values of Josh Mahinay, the subject of the article, are reflected in his generosity and business ethics and cannot be easily separated. They define his business life. Many large companies practice philanthropy, but perhaps not so many small companies. So what he does is still evolving. He has a Facebook page for himself and another page for his business. His personal page is almost nothing but photo stories of ways that he, along with NGOs, gives his manufactured product to various (often disadvantaged) schoolchildren.

As he partners with NGOs, he is always on hand to ensure that these children feel important. He constantly makes presentations to small and large audiences to raise awareness of the needs of thousands of children who need reinforcement and encouragement to continue going to school despite many difficulties:.[1]

A little San Francisco girl, Cassie Eng, raised money for Josh's product on GoFundMe so they could give bags to [2] and subsequently she and her mother flew to the Philippines to help present full BAG943s to 300 kids, mostly of the Badjao tribe. This was just covered in the Philippine Star, July 14:.[3]

The second reason is that while on many levels the use of social media may be questionable, there is a growing place for it in countries like the Philippines, particularly with the NGOs. Its proper use is making it possible to help hundreds of thousands of children and adults, often (but not always) following a disaster. The Philippines has over 7,000 islands, and a powerful need exists because of the inability of children to get to school or get other needs met. Josh was in the thick helping survivors or Typhoon Yolanda, but at the same time, he is working to help children from all around the Philippines (as identified by partner NGOs). Again, rather than intending this as an advert or pseudo-reference, I consider my article's further reading links as important relative to his credibility so people from around the globe, including many OFWs, may see what this young man is doing for his country.

What other vehicle than Wikipedia to show a businessperson's support of the educational system by giving away needed, useful products to disadvantaged school children? Social entrepreneurship. If you can help me find a way to re-write and/or change the slant of this article, I would be grateful. Judy Vorfeld 22:06, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

MfD nomination of Draft:Josh Mahinay[edit]

Draft:Josh Mahinay, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. You are free to edit the content of Draft:Josh Mahinay during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Josh Mahinay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.cfo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2032:leaving-los-angeles-to-pursue-greener-pastures&catid=109:overseas-filipino-new&Itemid=840. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ~KvnG 16:34, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you. On the topic of copyright violation, the original article was published by [1] on August 9, 2013, and Rappler apparently gave permission to republish to others. One example is the Philippine Government, who republished the article on August 12, 2013.[2] You will note that at the end of the article, the government gives credit to Rappler and a link to its site.

And many other people on blogs and websites have used his article as the basis for encouraging grit and education.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you as time permits. Judy Vorfeld 20:37, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

I've read the Government page, which claims copyright on its content. That claim is only invalid if the attributed Rappler text is itself public domain. The Rappler terms and conditions do not state that the text is public domain, and require permission for reuse. They also claim the right to withdraw permission, so that does not establish that the text used by you and the government has been released as public domain, and there is nothing on the Mahinay page in question to indicate that it has been so released. The fact that it has been widely copied doesn't change that
In any case, a page that is effectively written by Mahinay, or a copy of it, is not a independent verifiable sources

Libel[edit]

Anonymous contributor continues to change initial page description for Ofelia M. Samar-Sy, MD to mention that she took bribes. Here is the text :Medical Director of Ibalong Medical Center in Legazpi City, Albay, in May 2014 she was additionally appointed Dean, College of Medicine of Bicol Christian College, also in Legazpi City. She was later dismissed from her position as Dean from Bicol Christian College as she was rumored to be taking bribes from students to graduate them. Currently, she is the Dean of the Bicol University College of Medicine, Legazpi City. This anonymous person has repeatedly used "undo" to change my text, much to the distress and dismay of Dr. Samar-Sy. The latest revision leaves out the "bribe" issue and removes a good portion of her initial biography. Judy Vorfeld 23:39, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

We cannot identify the person making the changes, but since the statement has no reference, we can infer that there is an issue that the person may want to address personally to Dr Samar-Sy----

November 21, 2002. There appears to be two Wikipedia pages for Dr Samar-Sy, and both are identical except for a libelous statement. One page is the current page that is pulled up on Wikipedia, one can pull up the second page (Otherwise the libelous page is identical to the one we can pull up on Google. Here are the Urls I took from each one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofelia_M._Samar-Sy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofelia_M._Samar-Sy

I found the libelous page after a deep search on Bing, and have had both pages in my browser at the same time to verify I wasn’t losing my marbles. The statement in the second page: ” She was dismissed from her position at Bicol Christian College for solicited corruption. Currently she is the Interim Dean of Bicol University College of Medicine.” This is the second time someone has inserted similar material; Wikipedia took care of it in January.

Unless this can be investigated and dealt with, Dr Samar-Sy has directed me to delete her Wikipedia page. Thank you.

We don't delete articles merely because a subject demands it unless that subject is of marginal notability to the point where the privacy concerns would outweigh the benefits of any article. And even if the page were deleted, as long as the sourcing exists nothing prevents someone from writing a new article with good sourcing. That being said, the article as it presently sits is woefully undersourced, and I am tempted to go through with a pair of shears and remove everything that has no source what-so-ever. —Jéské Couriano (No further replies will be forthcoming.) 04:01, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On top of what Jéské Couriano just said, if the harassment flairs up again, a request for page protection from newer editors is more likely to be successful than a request for deletion. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:04, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Lim's article has been deleted without any notification. His humanitarian work is legion, and he continues to receive awards for highlighting the need for more and better education in the Philippines. His coordination with many institutions within and without the Philippines continues to the benefit of many isolated areas of the Philippines...places that do not have publishing houses or PR people on hand to publicize.
Somehow this action by Wikipedia doesn't reflect the magnificent work it does to highlight and encourage many small communities to learn independence so their children may receive an education.
What must we do to get this action reversed, and to ensure that I receive notifications? And be assured that I will get other references for him and clean up the article. Thank you so much. Judy Vorfeld 18:26, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

ON RECONSIDERING DELETION FOR ANTON MARI H LIM. I take responsibility for not asking Dr Lim to keep me informed of his PR notability. The editors rightly said, “…find that this article is verifiably about a veterinarian from The Philippines who is active in philanthropic work, particularly as a Rotarian…” Well, he is so much more than a modest Mindanao veterinarian who also kindly adopted Kabang.

Dr Lim just finished a course designed for leaders at the London School of Economics, and had in the recent past completed another leadership course at Harvard, but I did not know of his talk at TEDx (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUema95G5ZA), or that he was featured in a Washington Post article, or that he was recently the campaign manager for Leni Robredo for President of the Philippines. I also knew of his powerful support where he is coordinator for the Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and that in 2016 he was awarded “Heroes of Philanthropy” by Forbes.

I did know that he builds yellow boats, educational opportunities, and civic pride wherever he goes, but many such feats are accomplished in outlying areas, and these are difficult to express if required to provide references. One of his slogans is: “Where no children have to swim in order to get to school.”

I am now verifying all the sources he sent me, and hope that my lack of initiative might not penalize a Filipino who is an enthusiastic leader and determined to help build the quality of his country. Where no children have to swim in order to get to school.

May I be allowed to edit his page, update it, and follow every Wikipedia guideline before presenting it?
