Novelty songs

Hi, How are you determining which pages to categorize as novelty songs. The few I looked at didn't mention their being novelty or comic. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 03:14, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Quite right Jwy. Looking at their contributions it's pretty obvious they do not understand the term "novelty song". Wikipedia says... A novelty song is a comical or nonsensical song, performed principally for its comical effect. As such I am reverting these disruptive mass edits. Robvanvee 07:39, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Quite. Novelty songs are about intent, not reception, which is where the the wires are getting crossed IMO. "Tubthumping" for example may have been mocked and parodied, but it was released by the band as a serious, straightforward song. Conversely, Tom Lehrer is (still alive at 90 god bless) the king of novelty songs, intentionally satirical and humorous fare like "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park".
