Welcome[edit]

to the club of real names, John ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:29, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I appreciate your support. The goal from here is to "keep it real", or my name isn't Neal.—John Cline (talk) 20:10, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What prompted this?[edit]

I was all, like, getting used to My76Strat. --Lexein (talk) 22:50, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is something I've contemplated for quite a while. The impending removal of renaming capabilities from bureaucrats accelerated the timetable of available means. When neither Eeny, Meeny, Miny, or Moe ever caught Tom Dempsey by his toe, I picked the name that had to go—and by-the-way, I wasn't allowed to use Eric Clapton.—John Cline (talk) 04:04, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your hidden messages expressing endurance, and hopes that came true, helped by holding the torch and Sanddunes Sunrises, - repeating: you are an awesome Wikipedian (28 June 2012)!

Not a test[edit]

Hi, you reverted my edit at: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Isra_and_Mi%27raj&oldid=560394406, because you believed it to be a test. It was not a test, so I will be reverting it back; please post on the article's talk page before reverting again. (WP:SAWW is quite unambiguous with regard to this situation). 130.95.77.97 (talk) 04:08, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had noticed where your edit introduced an incorrect spelling of the prophets name, "supplemental writings about the life of uhammad." I felt it was unintentional but nonetheless inappropriate. I apologize if my action alarmed you in any way. cheers.—John Cline (talk) 04:26, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I actually only noticed your revert when I went to correct my error and got an edit collision. No harm done. 130.95.77.97 (talk) 05:04, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IP Comment[edit]

Please don't change my edit to The Purge. It was constructive. Those masked assailants were racists. They wanted to kill a black man for being black. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.248.22.100 (talk) 22:12, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You need to add a reference and use a neutral voice for the content.—John Cline (talk) 22:52, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ripu Daman Handa[edit]

I am not sure if I placed the right tag. The article seemed as if written by someone who is totally drunk. Kindly read the article. It makes no sense at all. Seems like a poem. Hence I placed the cleanup tag. Kindly review. I placed the tag as I wanted the community to be aware that the article is in horrible shape.

I did look at the article and I agree it need a lot of work. You are welcome to revert my edit if you feel strongly that you've expressed your intent clearly. It isn't for me to dictact your prose. If I may however, I'd enchorage you to consider using less confrontational prose. Cheers.—John Cline (talk) 04:27, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Superstar K4 editing[edit]

Hello. This is Shimdohee. If I bothering you, I apologize you. I just wanted to link "DickPunks" from the page. I didn't change any contents from it. If you don't like it, you don't accept it. Shimdohee (talk) 05:14, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You are not bothering me at all; I am glad you notified me of your concern. I remember that edit and that I realized that I was mistaken. I reverted my own edit as soon as I realized my error. If I may recommend that you use the "edit summary" to briefly describe your changes it helps to prevent misidentifying a constructive edit, as I did. Thank you for the kind manner and understanding you exhibited to me in discussing this edit. Cheers.—John Cline (talk) 05:51, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did a general copy-edit of the article. I should tell you that we don't link the article's title within itself; only from other articles. So the DickPunks link should not be in the DickPunk article after all. No worries however, this is how we all learn.—John Cline (talk) 06:40, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm so sorry again and replaced it as you said.

If I make you angry, I'm really sorry. Shimdohee (talk) 12:19, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • No I'm not angry. I don't understand your question or concern though. Everything seemed fine when I had a look. Talk to you later.—John Cline (talk) 12:39, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ETF Securities[edit]

Hi John, I notice that you wrote on my talk page. I'm trying to update the ETF Securities page which is out of date, however any editing that I do is deemed to be a conflict of interest or biased. I would really appreciate some help in determining how I can make just simple updates to the page without it being deemed cherry picked. Tammy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tammy Shephard (talkcontribs) 09:58, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tammy Shephard, I'll certainly be glad to help. Give me some time to look over your contributions, and I'll post a message where I think it will help. I'm pretty sure things will be fine, so stay relaxed and don't get too stressed if someone misunderstands your intent. Things like that will happen at times. But you're doing well by asking, I'm sure of that. I'll have a reply soon. Cheers.—John Cline (talk) 12:09, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I remember your edits, I could tell you meant well, but clearly were editing with a conflict That is why I posted on your page, to alert you of some common problems. Currently all of your edits relate to your main goal; editing for ETF Securities. It's a worrisome singularity of purpose. Here is what I suggest; Take a break from editing the EFT article for a few weeks. Edit something else and broaden your editing interests. Use the {{edit request}} template to request edits to EFT from the talk page; like you did, except don't <!-- comment the content out --> like you did. Forget about content that is only sourced in publications controlled by the article subject. That form of verification isn't acceptable. make smaller edits/edit request's for the EFT page, and always remember to include an edit summary to briefly describe your changes. And feel free to ask any questions if you are at all in doubt. Good luck.—John Cline (talk) 14:01, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IP block exempt[edit]

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Huon (talk) 15:30, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware of that and will immediately file it with my good to know information. I am mostly familiar with seeing your insight at UAA and honestly have been repeatedly impressed by your competence and steadfast diligence. You have never rubber stamped a report and identified a few shortcomings of my own reports in cases where I would have sworn admin intervention was necessary only to be extremely thankful that you saw the better approach, sparing the inevitable face palm that I was in line to endure. Query[edit]

what were the two times that I failed to act? I am genuinely curious. If you don't feel comfortable stating them onwiki, you can email them to me. --Guerillero | My Talk 05:45, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will certainly reply to this very soon, within 36 hours unless my higher authority has other plans for me. Until then, lose no sleep over this; you are no less human for erring, and no closer to God for erring less. Your desire to do your best however, does identify your honorable station; and I wish only the best for you.—John Cline (talk) 21:58, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The two examples I alluded to in suggesting you appeared lackadaisical involve this example first, where you identified a problem to me but did not follow up on the matter where in fact I did request some clarification. I truly believe if you had responded, we would have reached an amicable solution, without adding measures that tested each others resolve. Instead, as it happened, I felt backed to a corner, requiring that I speak with a candor I would rather have avoided. Review this thread to see how the misunderstanding developed.

The second example involved this post to your talk page which I did not see acted on or replied to even after returning several times to your page and verifying that you responded to posts by others; coming after mine. To be honest I felt ignored and wondered what I had done to earn your chastisement. I did just realize that you made the correction on March 12, 2013, though I had stopped checking by then.

I feel badly for mentioning this on your candidacy page, but withholding it would have bothered my conscious for not !voting in truthful proportion. I hope you understand and do not feel I had intentions of undermining your efforts; I certainly did not and in fact support your faithful service to this encyclopedia.—John Cline (talk) 07:43, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

I should have thanked you for your support sooner. ```Buster Seven Talk 12:21, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

John, regardless of the outcome of the RFA (or whether my answer to your question moves you from neutral to oppose), I really wanted to thank you for your question at the RFA. I've always prided myself that I take time with new articles, and try to not unintentionally bite new editors, but your question still shows there's room for improvement. I wanted to write this message away from the RFA (because I don't want this to be directly connected to the RFA) to just let you know that I plan on taking your constructive criticism to heart - even in my normal, every day patrolling of the new pages. Thanks, again! Singularity42 (talk) 00:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're certainly welcome, and moreover entitled to my thanks, which I hereby extend. I am glad that you understand the intent of the question; seeing its nuance. Your answer showed some of your depth; refreshingly so. Do also consider that the counsel, though useful for editors and various page patrols, was tailored more-so with hopes that it would carry with you in becoming an admin. The admin who deleted the page did no favors by wielding a rubber stamp. I hope you will see the importance of your new user right, in maintaining Wikipedia's second line of defense, and how your role should include rejecting deletion at times, especially to share proper counsel with the next generation of vandal fighters, coming behind you. So much of my own understanding has come from admins who were willing to share their insight and explain areas where my zeal and enthusiasm was lacking understanding in anyway; or just to show a better way. I remember once when an administrator created a stub article, creating a third notable entry on a disambiguation page opposed to deleting it for only having two included terms. I thought that was a creative solution. And I think you have the wherewithal to do wonderful things as an administrator. That's why I vested my own time, creating replies, that effectively charge you to discharge your admin duty, not only well, but even up to the fullest extent of your ability; having myself observed of its surplus within you. Cheers.—John Cline (talk) 07:35, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
One thing I did raise, though, and perhaps we could discuss it here (unless you think there's a better forum). In a true A3 situation (where there is absolutely no content, and no history) where is there the concern about loss of attribution? I agree with everything else you raised at your question (and I think you have raised legitimate reasons why the redirect was better than my A3 tag), but I'm struggling with loss of attribution being one of the factors. If there is no content, and there is no history, I would think by definition there is nothing to attribute... Singularity42 (talk) 01:00, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice these comments and the ones on your RfA. A longer reply is at the talk page for your consideration. For the record, I did notice the timestamps between the page's creation and the tagging under CSD; it spoke well of your desire not to rush in and be seen biting new users. I wish you the best from here, and I am thankful for having met you, and seeing your love of the project which I share.—John Cline (talk) 06:51, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
