User page vandalism[edit]

Joanne, Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. What I did to offend the editor, I have no idea, but I'll take it as a complement. :o) EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 09:41, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin coaching[edit]

Hi! While User:Titoxd is on a Wikibreak, he gave me permission to do some leg-work concerning Esperanza admin coaching. I was curious how your coaching with User:Aaron is going. If it is finished (or even if it isn't), would you be able to take on another coachee? Don't feel guilty if you don't have the time- I perfectly understand, and wouldn't want anyone feel overworked. Thanks for all your time! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:33, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Names[edit]

Sorry about that. What I would like to point out, though, was that I had checked the page history, and, aside from the original Britannica text, it only had additons to relevant categories (so, no original contributions). Otherwise, I would not have attempted the move at all. I was also promted by the fact that a name of this length makes the category pages barf (especially in this case, where it is likely to meet name mastodons on either side), and because he is cited with the shorter version on French wiki. I did not mean "have it your way" as a way to attack you. Dahn 23:06, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Download Is Now Available[edit]

I just wanted to let you know that a download of VandalProof has recently been made available. AmiDaniel (Talk) 09:49, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted some of your dab edits yesterday, please see Talk:Master of Arts for an explanation. u p p l a n d 17:04, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm sorry, I thought I read that talk page (the top part of it looks familiar) but apparently I somehow missed the most essential stuff. I think it'd be a good idea to point to that Talk page on de project page, since it now says explicitly:
* Master of Arts — Links
— 399 main namespace links remain
— Just establish which university the degree comes from and select from the three options.
I've changed it on the project page, I hope that'll help. --JoanneB 18:34, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I changed the dab page a couple of days ago to be clearer about the fact that there are/have been other M.A. degrees, but it should really be a historical summary-style overview, once all subarticles are written and well-referenced (I won't hold my breath...). u p p l a n d 04:46, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's going to be quite a challenge, I assume, I noticed that there's much updating to be done. I hope to start on the article about Education in the Netherlands soon, since that's what I know most about, and work from there. --JoanneB 09:50, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's difficult. I have started working on an article on Swedish academic degrees. The problem I encounter is that most secondary sources, such as encyclopedias, give only information current at the time of publication, with a historical background limited to the immediate preceding decades. There is stuff on the topic spread all over the major multi-volume university histories, but it will take me time to sit down and distill that into an article. u p p l a n d 10:38, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for moving comment to proper spot[edit]

IRC Bot[edit]

Hi Joanne. Would you take a look at my talk page? Cool Cat informed me that his IRC Bot will no longer be running because of difficulties on IRC, and asked me to delete all of its files from his user space. I'm not sure why he wants them deleted, but he does. I am hesitant to proceed, though, now that I've discovered that some of the pages have edits by other users. VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download[edit]

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Stalking weirdness[edit]

I can't imagine Wikipedia has a policy regarding this, but some very weird person has made a defaced copy of my userpage at User:HashimLopa. Could the copy be deleted or something, and the IP of that user blocked? I suspect User:Hipi Zhdripi due the same style of broken English used on the defaced copy of my userpage and on his userpage, as well as his past behaviour, but I can't be sure. Anyway, please do something, it's not pleasant to have someone impersonating you. --estavisti 18:10, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Umm Yea.....[edit]

Hello, I am answering you in regard to the comment you left on my user tak page. Can you please let me know in a detailed manner, what is the direct causes for deleting the images that i contributed to some pages? If it is a copyright issue let me reassure you that i have the copyrights privilege over those, that is why i put them there. Other than that please tell me why they are not allowed. Lalalulu

There were several reasons for your images to be deleted, but yes, copyright issues were the most important ones. Can you prove that you hold the copyrights for every single one of them? As some of them are from Playboy, I can't imagine that, but if you have proof, that's another story I guess. Also, some of the pictures were quite redundant: having one picture for a short article is generally enough. --JoanneB 22:22, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

?[edit]

What do you mean? I only put like one picture up for each of the articles and some of the articles didnt even have any pictures. I am i photographer for Playboy, and yes i can prove that i have rights to those.

Most of the pictures you added, were to articles that already had a picture. Regarding your rights to the pictures: in that case, I was apparently mistaken: I was under the assumption that the copyright to such pictures, in those cases, were transferred to the magazine with the contract between the photographer and the magazine. If you can prove otherwise, please do so. Magazines like Playboy, however, have sued multiple websites over the last couple of years, and won. I'm sorry to be so cautious and skeptical, but in many, many cases like these, Wikipedia could get into trouble for having pictures like these on the site, so I'd prefer to err on the site of caution. --JoanneB 00:19, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Permission to publish IRC logs.[edit]

Hey there, I was wondering if I had your permission to publish some of your IRC chat on Wikipedia, specifically:

< lines removed - isn't this the whole point of asking permission first?? --JoanneB 20:19, 25 April 2006 (UTC) >[reply]

I previously had these up in accordance to m:IRC Channels, as the channel you said it in #vandalism-en-wp did not have a rule against logging visible on a related website or on WP:IRC and related pages. However, despite the fact that the logs were related to a ongoing discussion, and they were trimmed to size, a administrator with personal involvement to the issue deleted the content. As such, I am seeking permission of use from every user I am quoted. Your cooperation would be appreciated.

Thanks, Avillia 19:43, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, I find this way of asking these permissions very odd: by asking, you're already quoting it, aren't you? Also, I've seen the page you had that was deleted, and I seriously don't like the way you're using these logs. I know I've said these three lines on IRC and although it's not something I'd take back, it's not all that significant: not as fact (because as I said, I'm not all that knowledgable about it) nor as opinion, since you'll be using it in another context. So, no, sorry, you can't use those quotes and I strongly advise you to rethink the way you're going about this. Regards, --JoanneB 20:19, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question concerning a possible copyright issue[edit]

Hi there. I recently looked at Henry Ossawa Tanner and found that it is an exact copy, verbatim, of [1]. I'm not quite familiar with the Wikipedia policy around copyrights, or about the existence of copyrights in the White House website, so I was wondering if you might know who I could ask if you don't know what to do about this (or if there's anything to do at all). Thanks. Cowman109Talk 02:05, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about taking so long to respond! I've done some searching on that site, and it seems to me that it was a website created by government employees. If so, the text is in the public domain, which means that we can use it. However, as is often the case when something is copied verbatim from somewhere else, the tone and style is not exactly fit for Wikipedia, but that's another issue :) Kind regards, --JoanneB 08:13, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks! Cowman109Talk 14:34, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image[edit]

I'm terribly sorry, I should've checked more thoroughly; I know this rule, and I can't really think why I would use a fair use image on prohibited grounds. It has been removed now. My apologies, _-M o P-_ 21:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you vandalize the Bob Dylan article? Huh?[edit]

Why did you remove the link to the Monica's Dude site from the Bob Dylan article and make it impossible for me to put it back. It is one of the 2 or 3 best Dylan sites on the Web & even Dylan's record company pays attention to what he says. You and your weird friends may hate the guy who runs it because he fights against the bootleggers but that's no reason to pretend it doesn't exist and keep Dylan fans from reading about it at Wikipedia. Visions 1965

To my knowledge, I did not vandalise the article. The only thing I did, was remove a website, the "Monica's Dude" site that you mention. Even if the information that is on it, is correct and useful, the rest of the content and the presentation of it is completely inappropriate for Wikipedia to link to. The very first thing you see when you click the link is a huge George W. Bush parody picture. While Wikipedia is not censored, the sites that we link to should be of a high quality, and that site is just not it. Furthermore, I did not protect the article, the article was protected by someone else. --JoanneB 14:30, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Like Bob Dylan says, "I don't believe you." What, is Wikipedia a George W Bush Worship Club? Do you really think putting political stuff on a Bob Dylan Site has nothing to do with his music? Don't you know that Bob has revived his antiwar songs In Concert since GWB stole the Y2000 election? Do you know anything about Bob Dylan?

High quality sites. Ha ha fucken ha. Here are some of the High Quality Sites wikipedia links to on other articles.

www.roccosiffredi.com (Rocco Siffredi article) Porn site where ugly man abuses women. "The image of Siffredi dunking a gasping female performer's head into and out of a water-filled toilet bowl has become a key graphic in the promotional artwork for many of his European releases." Wowwy wow wow, Joanne, that just screams High Quality.

www.ashleyevans.com (Ashely Evans article). Porn, porn ,porn, even on the front page.

www.cndb.com (Nudity In Film article). Soo-ey, this one's really high quality. The Celebrity Nudity Data Base. Wikipedia, the Internets Guide to Masturbation Aids. Along with WWW.NUDOGRAPHY.COM. Nothing says class like lots of ass.

Here's another classy site. SHIT AS ART. art.enonym.com it's in the "shit" article. Pictures of SHIT = HIGH QUALITY. Criticizing George W Bush = low quality. I guess Wikipedia = NO QUALITY WHATSO-f'en-EVER.

Your pants must be on fire. You just fucked up the Dylan article coz you're a bootlegger's friend, aren't you? Righty-O! Visions1965

To my knowledge, I've never be incivil to another user, and I won't start now. But I must say you're stretching my patience. Could you please tone down the language a bit and stick with the facts, rather than insulting me or the encyclopedia? Thanks! Now, about your examples. I'm not saying, and I never have said, that Wikipedia only contains links to high quality sites. What I wrote was: "the sites that we link to should be of a high quality". So yes, when I find links that I think are of questionable quality, I consider removing them. The examples you mention: feel free to mention your objections to them on the talk page, or consider removing them yourself if you think there are good reasons for that. And yes, articles about porn stars will have links to porn sites - to a certain limit. Articles about music stars will have link to music sites - to a certain limit. --JoanneB 20:23, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
