What is the source of this article? I live near Lake Winnebago and I am familiar with almost the whole lake. The article gives no clue what city the bay is nearest. Royalbroil 01:01, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. I looked at the coordinates and determined that it was just north of Oshkosh. I went through several other lighthouse articles that you created and noted the nearest municipality. Royalbroil 01:08, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention that you took BEAUTIFUL pictures of the lighthouses! Royalbroil 01:11, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comments on the pictures. I have plenty more for those lighthouses and for ones that aren't in wikipedia yet. If people are interested, I could create articles for other lights that don't exist yet. I'm still new to wikipedia and trying to figure out how much information to post. Keep up the great work! I do agree with the suggestion of uploading these beautiful images to Wikimedia Commons so that Wikipedia projects in other languages can use them. Let me know here on the English Wikipedia if you need help there. Everythings there needs to be categorized so anyone can find them, so you should place all of the images to the category of Wisconsin lighthouses. Categorization there works the same as here in the English Wikipedia. I created a category of images that I created Category:Files_by_User:Royalbroil_from_en.wikipedia I notice that many of the lighthouses are in my general vicinity. By the way, you should use 4 tildes to sign your posts (~~~~). It will automatically sign your name along with the international time. Do you live near me in Eastern Wisconsin, or were you on vacation/travelling? Royalbroil 02:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone point me to what to do to post them to the commons? I've heard of it, but I don't understand why all pictures aren't posted there already. And there seems to be categories and other things in commons that match similar things in the English, but not exactly, and it seems to be a mess, with different namings for the same thing.. So I've just stayed away from it. Help! I live in Wauwatosa (near Milwaukee). PS. I thought I was using the 4 tilde thing to sign my posts, or do you mean I need to do that on my page edits (not just talk pages) PSS, do you automatically add this page to your watch list, or how do you know to look for a reply? Why Commons? So that all the Wikipedia's in different languages can share the images. In theory we should all be uploading all free-use images like to Commons - but casual contributors aren't aware of it - so we let it slide. Only fair-use images should be uploaded to the English Wikipedia, not free use images like albums covers, screenshots, magazine covers, etc. Another big advantage of Commons is that the images are categorized so they can be found later. There is little organization of images in the English Wikipedia. You can find out general information about Commons by reading the article Wikimedia Commons. You can find a tutorial and discussion for Wikipedians at Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons. Good or Feature Articles are expected to have their free use images uploaded to Commons. Here is the main page for Commons: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_page . You upload there the same as here in the English Wikipedia. There is a tool to have your images uploaded from the English Wikipedia to Commons. The tool unfortunately requires you to upload the image a second time. I would wait for an automatic tool that's a lot quicker. I anticipate that someone will write one soon. I check two things to determine which categorizes to use in Commons: 1) start in Category:Wisconsin and navigate down the category structure to the closest fit and 2) type in the name of an major object that is at least somewhat close to the subject, making sure that I use the plural of the objects name. So for a lighthouse I search for Category:Lighthouses, and navigate from there. You could always start at Category:Buildings if you want a broader search. You could question me on my talk page otherwise before you upload it, and I'll get you started. I am familiar with most of the structure under Wisconsin as I have created most of it for images that I uploaded over the last years. It parallels the other states.
You should NOT be using the 4 tilde signature on articles, but you should always use it on talk pages. Your signature isn't working right then, since it should wikilink your name to your userpage. You can check how the signature is working by going to "My Preferences" on the upper right hand side at the VERY TOP of your screeen when you are all the way scrolled to the top. The "user profile" tab should come up. Make sure that the "Raw Signature" box in the middle of the screen is unchecked. I have customized mine, which is what the Raw Signature box is for. I could help you set up your own signature if you want otherwise. My signature uses the colors of my (first) college alma mater - UW-Oshkosh.
We would be happy for you to join us in Wikipedia:WikiProject Wisconsin! We can always use good writers or photographers like you. I find out about all new articles that contain the word "Wisconsin" from a bot that monitors all new articles. We have a custom output for WikiProject Wisconsin. I live near Chilton, but I plan to move to somewhere in the Lake Winnebago/Green Bay area as soon as I get a job. I recently graduated from a state technical college in IT-Networking.
