Help needed at the Jobs sub-project of WPFF[edit]

I see that you're on wikibreak; I hope you won't mind helping me out when you return. A new user, User:ShadowKinght, has come along and created articles for the Gambler and Engineer job classes, and has added a link (currently red) for a no-doubt planned Morpher article. I left a note on his talk page explaining the planned merges into the main character class article, but I don't think he read it (or he's chosen to be obstinate; I don't know which). He found the sub-project to add his links but apparently didn't read the talk page. I'm trying not to bite the newbies, and to not be as frustrated as I am, but I'm trying to handle this with no apparent response. Do you have any advice on how to handle this, or shall I just go ahead with the merges and eventual AfDs? Thanks in advance. -RaCha'ar 04:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia MTG set[edit]

I just stumbled upon Image:COTW MTG Card.png and Image:Jimbo mtg card.jpg and see the first mentions there is a 'set'. Is it linked on any page? There should be a template or category for them, so one can easily view all of them :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, I've returned too, and I just wanted to say welcome back. I still remember the original WPFF lot :) How have you been? — CuaHL 11:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block this computer[edit]

I'm not entirely sure if you have the capability, but this a computer at a high school, and you're likley to get nothing but vandalism from it. It is connected to a central server, so I'm not sure if blocking the IP adress from editing will cause the entire school to be unable to edit, or if just this computer will be blocked, but it's something to look into.--170.158.74.101 17:51, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Guy_FC_menu.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guy_FC_menu.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Non-free use disputed for Image:Mad pacman cover large.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Mad pacman cover large.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:03, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Manic Miner Screenshot.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Manic Miner Screenshot.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Pak21 11:52, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems with Image:Union jack proposed.jpg[edit]

An image that you uploaded, Image:Union jack proposed.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Amazon links[edit]

I reverted your revert of my edits to Elektra and Wolverine: The Redeemer. Links to commercial stores should be avoided following WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided #6 "Links to sites that primarily exist to sell products or services. For example, instead of linking to a commercial bookstore site, use the "ISBN" linking format, giving readers an opportunity to search a wide variety of free and non-free book sources."

There is nothing on Amazon that can't be found in reliable sources. (Emperor 11:49, 13 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

But that's where I got some of the information for the article from! (Stuff that wasn't included in the other references.) Yes we should avoid it, and if you can find the information elsewhere, go ahead and replace it. But for the moment, we must cite to the source of the information! --JiFish(Talk/Contrib) 09:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I didn't get back to you on this (it is usual to reply on someone's talk page so they know). The bottom line is you just can't link to it. If there is an issue with this feel free to take it up on the Comics Project talk page. (Emperor 16:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]
That's the last straw. I'm done editing wikipedia. If guidelines aren't flexible enough to allow me to link to my references, then screw it. I'm too tired to argue. --JiFish, Former editor 2005-2007.
I really think this is a very minor issue. I know it can be a pain but what I do when I find something useful on Amazon or a blog/wiki/forum (which usually can't be used as a reference either) is use the information to find a reliable source, the big issue is not necessarily listing everywhere you got the information from but providing enough sources to satisfy verifiability guidelines - so if you say the ISBN and creators are something then people checking the sources can confirm this. I did a quick look around and found the following [2], [3], [4], [5] and [6]. I often use places like Amazon as a quick way of tracking down information but anything they have is available elsewhere and so you can always find a way to source the information. I wouldn't let this put you off editing Wikipedia (for the record I've removed similar store links from dozens of articles so it isn't anything personal. (Emperor 18:42, 1 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Ashida Kim, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
