License tagging for File:AR New Image.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:AR New Image.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:06, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:AR New Image.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:AR New Image.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Reporting vandalism

Can anybody tell me how do I do to report vandalism on any article? Who should I contact to do it?--Jetstreamer (talk) 17:37, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

See WP:Vandalism for general advice on how to deal with vandalism. You can correct it yourself and warn the vandal; if vandalism continues past a final warning, you can report the vandal to WP:AIV, but read the notice at the top of that page. If there is heavy continuing vandalism on a particular page, you can ask at WP:RFPP for it to be temporarily protected or semi-protected. If you want help to deal with the results of vandalism on a particular page, you could put {{helpme}} on the article talk page with a description of the problem. Is there a particular page you have in mind at the moment? JohnCD (talk) 17:38, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines to Milan/Hangzhou

I know that Ethiopian Airlines announced service to Hangzhou in their press release but Hangzhou is still not bookable yet. Do you know when will Hangzhou be loaded into their reservation systems? As for Milan, where are the IP getting this info? MXP is not even announced in a press release and not bookable. They gave a picture but it doesn't say flights will begin on June 16th and it is in Italian and I can't read it. However, I have added a hidden note saying that ET to MXP shouldn't be added until the airline announces it in a press release. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 00:57, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I guess the hidden note that I made didn't do squat. The IPs are at it again, adding the picture as a source for the flights at Bole International Airport and Malpensa Airport. Can you please watch these pages for a while. I am really busy right now and don't have time to deal with it right now. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 03:55, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Air Afrique

Hi! I see you are doing a great job on that page. Here's an ad on Youtube containing some statistical informations from 1992: 67 flights from Africa to Europe and 345 flights on the African continent per week (and the old slogan, "Nous en faisons chaque jour un peu plus"). --Yaamboo (talk) 07:08, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

On the use of country names in lists of airlines destinations

Hello there. Can anybody tell me the way country names should be used on a list of destinations for any particular airline? Should I use the official name or the colloquial/common one? For instance, should I use “People's Republic of China”, or simply “China”? Is there any policy regarding this particular issue? Jetstreamer (talk) 23:16, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

I looked at a couple of similar pages, and the format, "China, People's Republic of" such as in [[1]] seems to be most common. It allows people to find it with the common name, but also respects the official name. I don't know of any policies that explicitly require it to be done that way, but I think it makes sense. Why single out China for special treatment? SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

I have reverted your edits. Your reverts just show that you are unfamiliar with the project guidelines. Before reverting again, kindly go through these guidelines and other airline articles in wikipedia. Your claim of verifiability is an irrational reason for the revert. Adding a source on the seat configuration for each and every aircraft is unnecessary. There is a reference (the airline website) at the fleet table's title. Please have a look at that. If the airline's website provides all the info needed to form a fleet table, no other source is required. Besides, I had reformatted the entire table and you revert it claiming verifiability. As said above, please go through the project guidelines first. Thanks, Abhishek Talk to me 17:27, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

As told you above, please read the project guidelines first. Besides, the airline you asked me to see does not have anything similar to what you had reinstated at Ethiopian Airlines. Abhishek Talk to me 17:34, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Creating a redirection

Hello everybody. I'd like to know the procedure to redirect the article Austral destinations to Austral Líneas Aéreas destinations, which hasn't already been created (Should I create it first and migrate all the contents from the former article into it?). The reason for this redirection is that the proper name of the airline is Austral Líneas Aéreas, and not simply Austral, which is indeed a colloquial name. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks.

You just need to 'move' the article to the new title, using the button at the top of the page. Just put the new title in the little box when the move window opens, and away you go. If there's a talk page, make sure there's a tick for moving the talk page too. Doing this will move the article and its history to the new place, and leave the old title behind as a handy redirect. Kenya Airways 431

Hi! I looked at your edits regarding this crash

1. We must link to the English reports in all articles, even if they aren't officially the "versions on record" - After all this is an English Wikipedia and readers need to have easily accessible content. At the same time the original French Ivorian report also must be linked as it is the official "version on record"

  • If you felt confusion over the multiple links- they weren't redundant. One was the English BEA translation, one was the original French issued by the Ivory Coast

2. The investigation and recovery need to be described in detail (after all this is done in the Air France Flight 447 article) - If the BEA helped search for the black boxes, that needs to be said. If the BEA published an English language report, that needs to be said too

One thing I'm debating personally is the survivor recollection. On one hand I think it's important to show passenger viewpoints of the incident, but on the other hand I don't want to give a misleading perception of it. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:05, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Kenya Airways

Hi,

I notice you reverted my edit. I dont think it would be a good idea to merge the rows like this. It makes it harder to read. I also think it doesnt look as tidy as it was before, each row has it own seating assignment rather than sharing. Its also over complicating things If you have a look at other airlines for example Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways it isnt done there. If you look on Lufthansa it isnt like that for the two types of Airbus A321. I think it would be a good idea to keep them all looking the same for consistency.

Let me know what you think.

--JetBlast (talk) 22:24, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

  • Hi. Perhaps there is no consensus regarding the way seat configurations should be displayed on fleet tables. I had previously edited some of them the way you did on Kenya Airway's one, only to find them later "tidied up" just the way I reverted your edit. If you think the previous way is neater, you can go ahead and revert my edit. In my opinion, a way to better summarise same seat configurations is to amalgamate them whenever possible.--Jetstreamer (talk) 22:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your speedy reply. I do think if you do that it does tidy it up some what, but if you start doing it in that area it will need doing to the rest then things can look untidy. For example i have taken the fleet table to show what you mean if we merge everything we can. The second one i think looks allot better and is easier to read. --JetBlast (talk) 22:53, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines

Hello. May I ask why you removed the fact that the Somaliland region is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia from the Ethiopian airlines article? You do realize that the airline itself, like the international community as a whole, does not recognize any such country called "Somaliland" and only includes Somalia in its literature (e.g. here), right? In fact, it doesn't even mention Somaliland on its website [2]. So what gives? Is there a second Ethiopian Airlines website I should know about? Also, in your second revert [3], you completely removed the Frequent Flyer Program section that I had just added. What's the point of that too? Why not just revert the Somaliland section if that is all you object to? Why a wholesale revert? Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:30, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. There is an article in Wikipedia for Somaliland where the readers can get all the information they need, including the ones you mention. Wikipedia is simply an encyclopedia, where neutral points of view should be stated. That said, it doesn't matter whether the airline or even Ethiopia recognises Somaliland or not, the only thing that matters is that it flew once to a destination within its territory. Moreover, it doesn't matter to which state (recognised or not even by the UN) Hargeisa is the capital of as to an article concerning any airline, not only Ethiopian. As already stated in the Airline Project guidelines, airline articles as well as pages related to their destinations should only reflect information with neutral points of view. Regarding ShebaMiles, the frequent flyer programme and its description is properly depicted within the codeshare agreements sub-section of the Destinations section, where it is also stated that the company has a codesahre agreement with Lufthansa, as with many other airlines. Scattering information related to the same stuff all through the article renders it disordered. Best wishes.--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:53, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. Articles should indeed reflect a neutral point of view. However, removing clarification of the fact that the city of Hargeisa is internationally recognized as a part of Somalia is not neutral. It's actually the opposite of neutral since all of the other images on the Ethiopian Airlines article that show actual Ethiopian Airlines aircraft in various airports around the world all list country-level destinations (viz. United Arab Emirates, England, Ethiopia). They do not list regional-level destinations; only the Hargeisa picture does and that's the point. Unless one wants to deliberately give the impression that Somaliland is recognized as country of its own on par with the aforementioned actual nations, a clarifying note will have to be added indicating that the Somaliland region is actually internationally regarded as a region of Somalia. This is even more necessary considering the fact that Ethiopian Airlines itself doesn't even appear to acknowledge any such sub-national let alone national entity; it only recognizes Somalia in its literature, as shown above (please leave a response if any here so that the discussion is all in one place). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 21:12, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Do you think the last change I made to Ethiopian Airlines destinations solves the issue? Please let me know what you think. I added the flag of Somalia so as to appear with that of Somaliland, and also modified the caption of the last image. Please let me know what you think. Cheers.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:26, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
That won't do because Somaliland is still listed in the country column alongside actual countries, including the Somalia which it is internationally regarded as an autonomous region of. It is also the only such disputed territory listed on the table and in such a way. That makes the presentation still far from neutral. And that's not even mentioning the main Ethiopian Airlines article, which still requires a clarificatory note, as explained above. Middayexpress (talk) 21:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Kindly removed Somaliland from the caption of the image in the Ethiopian Airlines article. I think we're done with that. Which is your proposal concerning Ethiopian Airlines destinations? Simply removing a terminated destination is clearly not the solution.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:47, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
That's one problem solved. For the Ethiopian Airlines destinations article, I recommend explaining via a footnote that Hargeisa is the "capital of Somaliland, a self-declared republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia." The actual table should list Somalia, just like the Mogadishu entry does, because Hargeisa is internationally recognized as a city in Somalia and Somalia, in turn, is internationally recognized as an actual country (the column in question). Middayexpress (talk) 21:53, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Good effort. That's both issues solved. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 22:20, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Needing help from an administrator

{{adminhelp}} Hello there. A user and I have been engaged in a discussion regarding citation overkill on both Kenya Airways and Kenya Airways destinations articles. The user believes the articles need cleanup, citing that they content too many references, while I don't think so. In fact, we already discussed the matter —mostly for the first of them— and I agreed to remove many references from Kenya Airways, something I did yesterday. I also explained him/her there is no necessity to remove references from Kenya Airways destinations. The user is even threatening me that the matter will be raised as vandalism, as he/she claims I'm vandalizing the articles when removing the cleanup tags (is that correct?), when I actually contributed to their expansion and also to providing the appropriate references whenever possible. I already removed the cleanup tag from both articles, and decided to call for help. Can anyone help in solving this issue? Many thanks in advance to any contributor.--Jetstreamer (talk) 17:40, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Administrators are not moderators, so this is probably not a good way to solve it. Since you and the other user are in a dispute, you should consider dispute resolution instead. In this case, I would recommend that you post a request at WP:3O to get an uninvolved editor to comment. Unfortunately, I'm not a content-specialist, so you will have more luck finding someone with such skills there. If this does not help, I'd suggest you raise the question at Wikipedia:Content noticeboard. To avoid further escalation, I'd advise that you do not revert them again if they reinstate the templates but wait for a neutral user to comment first. Regards SoWhy 19:44, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your time. Really appreciate your help.--Jetstreamer (talk) 19:53, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

I saw your response on the Hong Kong matter at WP:AIRLINES but can you keep an eye on this page (it has been protected for a week until the dispute is resolved) for now because its gonna get reverted again after the protection. I will be trying to take a wikibreak right now until this matter is over so I will be making just tiny edits now and then. Again, thanks for your input on this matter! Snoozlepet (talk) 17:42, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Hong Kong was continuously moved from "East Asia" to "Southeast Asia" without discussing the change at WP:AIRLINES. It was probably one person using multiple IPs and Hong Kong has always been listed under "East Asia" with PRC or independently. So that was why I was asking you to watch the page once the protection expires. I am just trying to avoid things like this until it ends once and for all. Snoozlepet (talk) 04:48, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hidden category

Can anyone tell me what a hidden category exactly is? More specifically, I've been editing Nigeria Airways and it seems the article is listed in a hidden cleanup category that apparently only administrators have access to. Has it something to do with the fact that I am unable to cleanup the article using AWB? Which is the way the hidden categroy can be removed? Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 12:50, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

There is nothing sinister about hidden categories, see WP:HIDDENCAT. They are categories to do with the operation and maintenance of Wikipedia that are normally not visible to readers, but they are not restricted to admins; you can arrange to see them by clicking "My preferences" at the top of the page, and on the "Appearance" tab checking the box marked "Show hidden categories."
Articles get put into these categories by maintenance templates like {{underconstruction}}, {{when}} and {{cn}}. I don't see any reason why they would prevent you from editing the article with AWB. The way to get the article out of one of them is to remove the maintenance template, after improving the article so that it is no longer applicable. JohnCD (talk) 13:14, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks for your response.--Jetstreamer (talk) 13:17, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
My pleasure. A general piece of advice: if you want to find out about something on Wikipedia, it is worth trying typing "WP: " or "Help: " into the search box, followed by the name of the thing. In this case WP:Hidden category takes you to the page I linked. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 13:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Archiving webpages

Hi there! I've seen in many articles that there is a legend close to referenced webpages stating that they had been “archived from the original”. Perhaps my question is beyond the Wikipedia help. Anyway, can anyone tell me how do I do to archive a webpage so that dead links can be avoided in the future? Many thanks in advance.--Jetstreamer (talk) 18:58, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

How I do it is I go to http://www.archive.org/web/web.php, enter the URL of the page I want to archive, and see if the page has been archived (and link to that archive in the citation). About archiving manually, I don't know of any website that will do that for you. I guess if you have your own site then you can archive it though. Thanks, Samwb123T-C-E 19:35, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:05, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
No problem. :-) Samwb123T-C-E 21:08, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

WebCitation.org will let you archive any web page whenever you want. I used it not too long ago (trying to cite a chart position on some obscure European music chart whose website didn't use permalinks) and it did pretty much exactly what you seem to be looking for.
Thatotherperson (talk/contribs) 13:11, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Will try it then. Many thanks!--Jetstreamer (talk) 14:12, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Your Opinion

Hi. I was wondering if you would please give an opinion on the Qatar Airways Talk Page on the section Go-Around Controversy please? Thanks --JetBlast (talk) 21:50, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, I agree with you that the incident is not relevant enough to be included, as per WP:AIRLINES. This argument has also been raised by another editor. In my opinion, it should be removed. I will do so, if you haven't already. It's always my pleasure to contribute. Warm regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 22:17, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I have removed it twice but User:B767-500 keeps reverting. Please can you post your opinion on the Qatar Airways Talk Page so others can see this please? Thanks --JetBlast (talk) 22:21, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Biman Bangladesh Airlines

I could create an edit notice for the article, instructing editor not to add unverified material to the article. Should IP vandalism prove to be a persistent problem, you can ask for indefinite semi-protection at WP:RFPP. Mjroots (talk) 09:55, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

It seems that our efforts to prevent adding unsourced information didn't bear fruit. Instead of reverting the last edit again (the last two ones came from registered users), I have placed a “Citation needed” tag. Thanks for your response. Hey

whats going on? why did you delete my Update? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sasha2881 (talkcontribs) 12:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi. You provided no sources for that edit, thus violating WP:V. I see that you provided a source in your last edit. Nevertheless, the source you provided was already cited, there's no need to duplicate information. You should read the article before editing. Apart from that, anytime you modify fleet tables, please also modify the fleet numbers acordingly —both in the fleet table and in the infobox— so that fleet numbers add up. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia, you're welcome to contribute anytime you want. Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 12:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

IP vandalism

{{admin help}} Hi there. Can anyone take a look at these recent edits made by an anonymous user? I've reverted some of them. It seems that he/she operates from different IP addresses, yet the result is always the same: disruptive edits time after time. Is there any way to prevent such things? I reported the IP user, though all I got was the obvious notice that he/she was “not active” by the time someone considered the petition. I also placed a template on his/her talk page warning that that IP has been used for vandalism purposes, yet I believe we won't get that much from that. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks in advance for your response.--Jetstreamer (talk) 03:25, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

I have blocked 118.216.46.246 for a few days, but no doubt the problem will return from another IP address. Unfortunately the two IP addresses you give are too far apart for a range block. I'm afraid right now I don't have time to look into this further, but if there are some articles which have been subject to frequent attacks then they could be semiprotected, and if the IPs used fall into a reasonably small number of reasonably small ranges then a number of short term range blocks range blocks may help. However, unfortunately in cases like this it is often a case of blocking each IP address as it comes up. Please feel very welcome to contact me on my talk page when further attacks occur. Unfortunately I won't have much time to spend on it over the next two days, but after that it should be easier. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:26, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Got it. Again, really appreciate your help. Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 12:45, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Aeroflot editing

I have edited the mistakenly pointed orders for Aeroflot. Please refer to Boeing's orders and deliveries page and inform yourself that Aeroflot does not hold any outstanding orders for B777-200ER. The ones MOU's earlier were were rolled into a firmly signed deal for 16 B777-300ER. Please provide CORRECT information and stop deleting CORRECT information. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sofianec (talkcontribs) 00:35, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

As of 20 September 2011, neither Aeroflot's nor any other airline's 777 orders are split into -200s and -300s at Boeing orders and deliveries. Hence, your claims are unsupported. Why don't you provide the proper references for yourself if you have them? --Jetstreamer (talk) 02:10, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
On Boeing orders and deliveries choose standard reports from the left menu, then customer. From the drop-down choose Aeroflot and voila! It clearly says 16 x Boeing 777-300ER's. It is impossible to provide a direct link to the information as it requires user action to dig-up which I did and the information, provided with my edit is 100% correct as stated on Boeing's site. The one listed under Aeroflot's Wikipedia page however is not current and incorrect. --Sofianec (talk)
Yes, you're right. I apologize. I'm correcting the information in the fleet table. Figures for 787 orders were also incorrect. Thank you very much.--Jetstreamer (talk) 13:20, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Sure, it is just that Aeroflot provides info on signed orders in the media mostly referring to MOU's not firmly signed orders as they have to receive approval from all shareholders in Aerfolot, namely Russian Government and Mr. Lebedev therefore making the media reports and references not a very reliable source. It is when they sign a "firm order" then we know for sure the order and the model mix. Still bear in mind that most Boeing customers have options to switch models before EIS which is sometimes not reported in the media. As far as the 777 order they originally included in the mix 777-200ER's as those were compensations for 787 delays. When the delays got even worse they were able to order all -300ER's as listed on Boeing's site. (Maybe too much info for you but so you know that I was 100% editing in good faith and based on latest information. I used to work for Aeroflot for 10 years and I still follow them very closely.)
Also note the 737NG for 50 frames is far from certain that these will end up with Aeroflot for sure. The order as listed on Boeing site is not for Aeroflot!!! Rosteknologii did speculate with eventually placing the frames with Aeroflot but it's just speculation at this point - there is no firm decision and Aeroflot does not consider these orders as theirs at all. Things in Russia are unclear most of the time and changes occur often. I did an edit couple a months ago placing the 737NG orders in a separate table as they are officially not Aeroflot's. Please consider this as the public interest in having the most accurate information is paramount. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.126.18.230 (talk) 14:13, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

KLM cargo

KLM cargo serve Almaty and Moscow with Martinair aircraft, but another editor is not allowing these to be included/marked with coloured bars in the list, these are not Martinair cargo destinations, only operated for KLM cargo by them, he is using some rigid industry guideline for exclusion, rather than just letting it be a wiki list for general knowledge, I'm sure to any casual observer its irrelevant they just want to see the destinations not who is operating them on KLM's behalf, and in any case four of Martinair 747F are in full KLM cargo livery making it even more valid, infact Martinair cargo's own two 747F are currently flying as either all white or just one in full Martinair livery, so bulk of the operations in all regions of Asia are using the KLM aircraft in KLM colours, you can check on AF-KLM cargo website schedules for the two cities status. 116.71.17.64 (talk) 18:09, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Please note that KLM destinations is not yet finished, as there are still terminated destinations to be added. Thanks for adding some of them. I will get it finished as soon as I can, time permitting. Another piece of advice. You can save space in the html code in any article regarding flags, as you can use redirects. For instance, if you want the flag of my country displayed with a link to the country's article, you may just write {{ARG}} in order to get  Argentina. Check this out for a complete list of available flags. Separately, it's been a while that you've been active at Wikipedia; yet you did it all the time anonymously. Just wondering: have you considered to create an account rather than editing anonymously? Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 19:02, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
I have one but thought its not necessary so only used it to edit locked articles and others while still logged in, but will do so from now on. Thanks for the info on the flags. Can you help change title of Iranian Airlines article? they dropped that branding and are back to Saha, I have added references and information to the article body clarifying that. 116.71.17.64 (talk) 19:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines: Mahe service

Ethiopian Airlines announced here in their press release 281 that it will postpone the Mahe launch. However, http://www.airlineroute.net says that they will launch the route on 22 January 2012 but the airline's press release mentions no relaunch date and that it has postponed service until further notice. A user added it to the list but removed it saying that the airline has postponed service until further notice. Also, Mahe (or Seychelles) has been removed from the booking engine on their website. Can you find a source saying that the service is postponed until January 22?Snoozlepet (talk) 02:49, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Will try to find a source, but reliable sources are not that many.--Jetstreamer (talk) 10:06, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
The only reliable source I can find is the press release from Ethiopian Airlines itself saying its postponed until further notice. Airlineroute.net is not personal blog and is not a reliable source. I would wait and see if they update the service. Snoozlepet (talk) 16:23, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
I'd stick to official information and just wait, rather than promptly adding the future destination into the article.--Jetstreamer (talk) 19:12, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Recent activity of User:Islomchik

{{admin-help}} Hi there! I'd like to draw administrator's attention to the recent activity of User:Islomchik. I just don't know if this behavior deserves a sanction or not (I believe it certainly does), yet the user has made disruptive/unconstructive edits to a number of articles in the recent past, and more specifically to Uzbekistan Airways and Uzbekistan Airways destinations (both are in my watchlist) in a matter of hours. As far as I can guess from his/her talk page, this behavior is not new. All I did was to warn the user and to revert the changes he/she made, but I'm afraid it won't work for long. Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 22:15, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

If the user is doing simple vandalism, you should report them to WP:AIV, but if they are making more complex disruptive edits, a report at WP:ANI would be more appropriate. In either case, you'll need to provide diffs of the edits in question to facilitate the investigation. If you have further questions, feel free to restore the admin-help template above. —DoRD (talk) 13:54, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Having looked in a little detail at the user's editing, I would say that you were a bit heavy handed with the warnings, as was user:Sven Manguard previously. If you look at the warnings from July 2011, they were both issued within a minute of each other. The second warning was issued for a transgression that took place before the first warning was issued. No further vandalism was carried out. We can assume the user got the message, even if the level 2 warning was, in my opinion, unnecessary.
With regards to your warnings, it would have been more appropriate to assume good faith in the first instance of the Uzbekistan Airways destinations editing. If anything, a level 1 notice would have sufficed. In the second instance, it's not clear at all that the edits made to Uzbekistan Airways were disruptive. I don't believe a level 4 notice was appropriate for that. Catfish Jim and the soapdish 14:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, maybe you're right. I will relent the level of the last warning in the user's talkpage. Thanks to both!--Jetstreamer (talk) 14:18, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism – User:Izzy.neon

{{admin-help}} Can any administrator block the user?. Can any administrator take a closer look at the user's activity? Already warned him/her in the wake of the recent vandalism/disruptive editing at Uzbekistan Airways. Thanks.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:26, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's vandalism (especially not the second changes you reverted), but I'm really not sure what that editor was trying to do there. But one thing I'd say is that you should not have given them an "Only warning" - just a plain level 1, then level 2, would be more appropriate, as those are a lot less condemnatory and are more friendly. And it wouldn't have hurt to just ask on their Talk page what they were doing and why. Anyway, there's no action needed immediately, but if you see it happen again, you should report it at WP:AIV - but as I say, just reverting and then asking in a friendly way what they're doing might be a better thing to try first -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:47, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Aerolíneas Argentinas

Jetstreamer:

Thank you for your interest in Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Recent activity of User:83.104.131.188

{{admin-help}} Hello there! Can you please take a closer look at this user's recent behaviour? He/she has been vandalising articles by deliberately introducing factual errors into many airline related ones. I've recently placed three warnings on their talk page. It seems that a sanction is likely plausible here. Thanks.--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

(s)he has not edited since the final warning, so I suspect they have logged off or they may have taken heed of that warning... The best way to get attention in future is to report them at WP:AIV - ideally when you see a bad edit after the final warning.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:56, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. According to their talk page, this is not the first time s(he) acts this way. S(he) will see the warnings in their next login. Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:00, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
And it's showing as a static IP at http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/83.104.131.188, so I've added a static IP template to the page - means it's less likely to be multiple users (but can still be more than one user at a single address).  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:19, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

This is just a heads up. I'm going to do some work on this very good article to neaten it up and make it sound better. I did one such edit yesterday. All I did was make minor word changes.[4] Like changing on to in and on to of. I just did another edit.[5] Most of what I did was rewording and clarifying. I made a small factual fix also.

Aviation accident articles are frequent edits of mine.(I've also created six to ten accident articles, Viasa Flight 742 and Northwest Airlink Flight 5719, are two examples) I do keep up with plane crash history though I am not overly familiar with Aeroflot's. So I will check the citations when doing the edits so to prevent me from making mistakes.

You have done a great deal of hard work and I acknowledge it. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any feedback on what I did. Sometimes I commit a typo in my fix, feel free to correct them if I don't catch it.[6] William 15:54, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello there. Despite I regard it as one of the most important articles within the subject, it unfortunately is far from being complete, but I believe it can be taken to a featured list once it is finished. Of course you can contribute to the article, as any other editor can. For the time being I committed myself to completing the table for accidents occurred in the 1970s in order to get it finished asap. Following its completion, I will continue with another decade, and the final step will be merging all tables into a single one. I propose you to expand/copyedit the rest of the article, but you can contribute to it with anything you want. Please feel free to drop me a line with any of your thoughts regarding the page. Thank you.--Jetstreamer (talk) 23:18, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

New York

I'm very sorry but you are confused, I live in Buenos Aires, and LAN doesnt fly directly to JFK, and if you dont belive me try @ Lan's website or @ http://www.aa2000.com.ar/ (the offical page of "Aeropuertos Argentina 2000) Saying Lan, connects EZE-JFK is a mistake, and confuses people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.105.51.171 (talk) 01:21, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, you should check the airline's website, not the airport's one. That said, I've checked LAN's website (just for fun as I'm already aware of the flight schedules), only to find that Flight LA532 operates daily EZE-SCL-JFK, without connections, it's a direct flight. There's a change of plane for the inbound flight.--Jetstreamer (talk) 01:29, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

If there is a change of planes, it's not a direct flight, if not, we will fly "directly" to many other destinations, and of course I will keep erasing that inexistent flight to JFK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.105.51.171 (talk) 01:46, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

You don't understand, do you? The outbound flight is a direct flight, with a stopover at Santiago.--Jetstreamer (talk) 01:49, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Isn't Santiago a LAN hub? Per WP:AIRPORTS content, we normally don't list flights that contain a stop at a domestic hub. 68.113.120.216 (talk) 20:58, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, Santiago is a hub for LAN Airlines. The flight departs EZE, makes a stopover at SCL, and continues to JFK. No change of plane at all. Hence, it's a direct flight, and it makes perfect sense to list JFK as a LAN Airlines destination that can be reached from Ezeiza Airport.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:16, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

The London Southend Airport article states that it serves east London. One solution is to request protection for the pages you mention, but that will make IPs unable to edit such pages.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

WAAC Picture

Hello Jetstreamer. I've just checked my archive for WAAC pictures, but, alas, I do not have any. My first visit to Nigeria was not until 1970, so by then it was Nigeria Airways, I'm afraid. Sorry! RuthAS (talk) 20:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Never mind. Thanks anyway!--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:30, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi again! During 1958, at least, WAAC operated Boeing Stratocruisers, leased from BOAC, on their service to Heathrow. A picture showing G-ANUB at Heathrow shows it wearing the full titles of WAAC and a small elephant on the fin. Source : Stratocruiser & C-97 Pictorial and Production, Airline Publications & Sales Ltd, 1978, page 8. No ISBN. The leases carried over to Nigeria Airways and G-ANUA is shown, oddly wearing Nigerian Airways titles - not Nigeria Airways. Photo copyright for both images is commercially owned, unfortunately. RuthAS (talk) 20:58, 3 January 2012 (UTC).
There is a photo of a WAAC Marathon on the Ed Coates Collection website. Search for VR-NAO. I do not have the skills to put a link to it in the WAAC article. RuthAS (talk) 22:46, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help, Ruth! I will contact Russavia, who is an admin at Commnos. He'll surely manage the whole thing of permissions much better than me. Regards.--Jetstreamer (talk) 00:19, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Mombo (disambiguation)

Hello there! Can anyone please tell me if the disambiguation page I've created is ok? It is the first time I do so. Thanks.--Jetstreamer (talk) 18:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. The page about this is WP:MOSDAB. JohnCD (talk) 18:16, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Milan Malpensa Airport: Years for start dates

Can you help me explain that a consensus was reached in the discussion. I pointed to the discussion for August 2011 when all in favor of adding start dates but a user reverted my edit here [7] and stated there was no consensus reached in the discussion. Thanks! Ataturk Airport

Can you take a look at this page? I am sensing some minor IP disputes/vandalism here. IPs continue to dispute whether or not if TK is flying to VKO in the future and we have provided reliable sources to back this up. Also, Qantas is continued to be added that they will fly to IST on April 5, 2012 however, i just looked through their timetables and found no indication that the airline is running flights and can't book any nonstop flights between IST and SYD. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 18:56, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Will request protection for the page.--Jetstreamer (talk) 19:17, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

LOT Polish Airlines to Beijing

I was suprise to see the edits made at the PEK, Warsaw Airport, and LOT destinations pages that LOT is to begin service to Beijing on May 30, 2012. However, their website does not have Beijing available for booking and there was no source provided for such services. Can you take a look and if you can, see if there are any sources saying that LOT is to begin flying to Beijing on May 30th? Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 02:54, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

I actually added the source for PEK as a terminated destination, since it provides start and end dates. Despite it claims LOT will resume services there, no firm dates for the resumption are provided, but someone has taken the service for granted and added 2012 as the year for that resumption.--Jetstreamer (talk) 03:02, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

KLM Destinations

I did not introduce incorrect information into the KLM destinations article, and my edits are not vandalism. London is in England, Cardiff is in Wales etc, etc. I believe the information I added was correct because it is, but it's so obvious that I did not add any references; try looking at a map for a start!

Just for your knowledge, the United Kingdom is a unitary state, not a country. 78.86.37.131 (talk) 19:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Jetstreamer, you said 'please do not introduce incorrect information into articles' but Aberdeen is in Scotland, Cardiff is in Wales, etc etc. What is the actual problem with this? 78.86.37.131 (talk) 19:32, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
This matter is being discussed here.--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:54, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

East African Airways

Hi Jetstreamer, I noticed you have been updating EAA page recently - looks fine, perhaps you would like to include a link to my historical EAA website www.eastafricanairways.com if you think fit. Regards David — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.241.216.112 (talk) 02:18, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Correct Main page

{{admin-help}}

As pointed out by an IP (in the lead of the article itself! - [8]), the aircraft involved in the crash of Kenya Airways Flight 431 plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, not the Pacific. Please someone correct the "On this day..." section of the Main page. Thanks.--Jetstreamer (talk) 00:46, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I raised this issue at ANI, here - [9], since it appears to require an admin to address it. Thanks. Begoontalk 01:26, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Fixed. Thank you for the error report. --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:32, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Just for future reference, you can report such things directly under the correct section of Talk:Main Page. It will generally be handled faster that way. Regards, CharlieEchoTango (contact) 03:59, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
See, we live, we learn... Thanks for that. I wouldn't (obviously) have considered that as a quick route, but now I know. Thanks again. Begoontalk 04:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you both.--Jetstreamer (talk) 13:08, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Wikimedia Stories Project

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Victor Grigas
