Sorry, about that. I wasn't even thinking of spelling differneces, I just assumed it was a typo. My mistake, and it won't happen again.

Userpage vandalism[edit]

It's a badge of honor to have one's userpage vandalised. Mine's got its marks[1] :-) JFW | T@lk 04:41, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Given your professional background, will you be doing some neuroanatomy stuff on Wikipedia? It's all very basic at the moment. Parkinson's disease could also do with some help :-) JFW | T@lk 19:20, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Your userpage got vandalized, but I reverted it. All that needs to be done now is to block the anon. user who did it... and yes, they have quite a few warnings on their talk page. Had a 24 hr block for vandalism and a 48 hour block for vandalism. --Chanting Fox 04:06, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeremy! :) Sorry I couldn't reply your message before, I just got home from work. I've read your additions to the Spring Heeled Jack article with delight, and I encourage you to make any additions and edits you want (please, don't "resist" anymore! ;) . Regarding your comments:

  • I already reverted to the previous top image, and I explained why I did so at the article's talk page. What I didn't say there was that, just like you, I didn't like it at all myself! ;) Allen3 is also doing some edits to conform it to Wikipedia's standards and I see he just added a widely known image, that contributes to the "victorian look" of the article. Unlike the other one, I believe that picture is fine - what do you think?
  • I'm extremely interested in your contribution about the Sheffield "Park Ghost". I've found this website, which actually states that the sightings began in Sheffield in 1808, and although it doesn't give much information, it has a very interesting paragraph:
"In 1808, a letter to the editor of the Sheffield Times recounted how "Years ago a famous Ghost walked and played many pranks in this historic neighbourhood." The writer went on to identify this entity as the "Park Ghost or Spring Heeled Jack," and briefly described its ability to take enormous leaps and frighten random passers-by, but concluded, "he was a human ghost as he ceased to appear when a certain number of men went with guns and sticks to test his skin."
Unfortunately, they don't cite any sources. I've also seen a very similar reference at a book, albeit it's just an even shorter sentence. The difference between this date and the one you mention puzzles me, though, so I guess I'll have to do some more research on this Sheffield Park Ghost now! :)
  • Regarding the name "Springald", it is a pity that the person who posted that didn't have a user name, in order to ask him for his precise source. In the bibliography I've consulted, it appears but a few times:
    • According to Jerome Clark, "the press referred variously as "Springald," "Spring-Heeled Jack" or "Springheel Jack". However, this is the only source that claims that he was actually known by that name.
    • Peter Haining has a different idea. According to him, the name "Spring Heeled Jack" was derived from the archaic or literary word "springald" meaning "youngster", but he offers no solid support to this idea.
    • The books of the Role Playing Game "Feng Shui" mention SHJ, to whom they refer as "Springheel Jack". The entry starts like this: Also known as "Springald" or "Spring Heeled Jack".... This appears to me as the source most likely used by the poster.

Currently, I'm doing all I can to enhance the article as much as possible. Someone asked me to nominate it to FA, but it's not ready yet in my humble opinion. I intend to add much more info on the Theories and SHJ in popular culture before even considering such a big step for a newbie at the Wikipedia like me :) I'd love to have you feedback, and I enjoy a lot that you take part in it. So as the Wiki guys say, "Be bold!", and edit as much as you want!

Javier Solana[edit]

Why are yopu reverting to the Beast version and not the correct version of Solana? You must revert to the correct version, not the Beast version? I can't get anything out of the page right now. Can you please tell me what is going on to the best of your knowledge? --SqueakBox 02:40, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

  • I just checked the history—I have twice reverted the edits of 65.4.16.211 to what I believe is the correct (non-beast) version of the article. If some of the beast nonsense has snuck through, then we need to revert to an even earlier version. I must be doing OK though because 65.4.16.211 also vandalised my user page. JeremyA 02:46, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Javier Solana which may just be my computer. I am very confused by the info I get from the site. i think you should revert to the last Curps version, because the latest change that comes up in my watchlist appears to not be the current version. More likely to be this version [2] which the beast worshippers recognise as their version, and has had a lot of input from non beast believers since. it is vital we get the right version, and I for one seem to be cut out of this one article-very wierd. I did realise you are not a beaster --SqueakBox 02:54, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC) I now have what is the right version, last curps, it's all beemn vandalism and reverts since. --SqueakBox 02:58, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC It was Dcoetzee who reverted to a beast version, will try to find out why? --SqueakBox 03:01, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Got your letter. Please keep as is, ie Curps version --SqueakBox 03:03, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

And should explain why he unilaterally trashed consensus in doing so? I have asked them why? --SqueakBox 03:08, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thanks for helping me out with my vandal problem. —ExplorerCDT 04:12, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • A serious stalker plagued by a case of mistaken identity. —ExplorerCDT 04:20, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • BTW, I know about the date syntax, I just like keeping the articles I write uniform, so I went back and reverted the changes knowing they were a waste of my time too. :) —ExplorerCDT 04:23, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • Already beat you to that one...put a note on ViP while the madness was going on. But thanks for the suggestion. —ExplorerCDT 04:25, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

School stubs and Edu Stubs[edit]

Jeremy

How do people distinguish between a school stub and an edu stub? I've created two pages about colleges recently and one person changed my stub to school-stub while you changed my stub to edu-stub. This is obviously related to the American understanding of the word school ("School" to British people, except in specialised uses, is a place for children).

Tagging an image[edit]

I don't know how to tag this image I found. [[3]] I saw your name listed on the tag page so I thought you could help me. Thanks very much.

This looks like an excellent article. I like what you have done with the infobox, too. As for redirects, I think they make sense in this case, as we have only short section on Bents Green and Ringinglow, while Ecclesall is also the ward name. Perhaps it might make sense to move the new article to Ecclesall? But in general, where there is a substantial article on a location which is not the name of the ward, it could be kept - for instance, I'm not sure it would make sense to merge a substantial article on Sharrow into Central ward (Sheffield). Bulimia nervosa[edit]

Jeremy, watch out when reverting, you just got the pt: interwiki erased... Nuno Tavares 02:15, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Boku[edit]

Hey, you just reverted the changes I was in the middle of making. Just wanted to tell you that I wasn't vandalising the page. Though I wasn't really using the proper procedure, so I guess I was wasting my own time making the changes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Boku

Darwin[edit]

I have no objection to the way you phrase it on my talk page mdash; it is "Darwinism" that I really can't stand. But can you tell me (or just add to the article) who before Darwin claimed descent from a common ancestor? Working within natural science? We aren't talking about Lucretious are we? I have heard philosophers of science argue how Darwin's theory requires common descent. If it was just one of many ideas kicking around before Darwin, I think we should credit Darwin. Or was Darwin himself explicitly drawing on earlier work? If so, we should cite that earlier work. Slrubenstein | Talk 23:13, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Section headings above the election result tables may make for easier section editing, but what do they gain apart from that? Note also the advice in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings) not to make headings into links. (Even aside from that consideration, there are already hyperlinks to the general election articles in the table headings themselves. There's no need for duplicate hyperlinks.) Work on UK Parliamentary constituencies[edit]

Hi there, firstly thanks for your great work. The only thing I have noticed is that you have left a hypen (-) instead of a − (−). It's only minor issue, and I'm working my way through all the entries to double check anyway.

I'm going to work on the main project page and create a "style guide" subpage from it later today so people don't have to scan the talk page to know what style to use. I just thought you should know for any future pages you create. Greg Robson 09:09, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CSD[edit]

I removed your deletion request on Jefferson Food Mart because I couldn't figure out what CSD reason it fell under. I don't even know if it should be VfD. Is it a joke that I don't get? Please, excuse me If I am mistaken. BrokenSegue 02:25, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw your message as I posted. If it is a hoax, but a non obvious one, then it should probably be Vfded. BrokenSegue 02:28, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Alright I believe you I'll delete (shh. don't tell anyone). Just to be complete, however, your definition of patent nonsense doesn't match Wikipedia:Patent nonsense. BrokenSegue 02:38, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

George Bacovia[edit]

Thanks for writing something, the former article was extremely idiotic. I'm Romanian, but I don't know that much about Bacovia. I have to talk to my father, he might know more. --Matei Tache 19:45, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism revert[edit]

Just thought I'd tell you that I just made a revert to your main user page due to vandalism by an anonymous user. If you have any questions about this please drop me a note Jtkiefer 01:51, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)

List of legal terms[edit]

I think it's possible, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Redirect#Interwiki_redirects_and_redirects_to_special_pages. I think it may have been turned off. There is a bunch of legal terms all of Wikipedia, and I think they need to be moved to the Wikibooks. Wikipedia is not a law dictionary.... Oops sorry 68.17.133.137 05:02, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I see your point. Perhaps a non-US generic legal book /glossary belongs somewhere. I'm struggling with the concept of where to put this list; the same issue exists for medical terms, and I guess any jargon dictionary. See my message I just put on the Village Pump. Thanks for the feedback! - Ethan 68.17.133.137 05:09, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
By the way, your user page doesn't mention your favorite football team. Mine is Aston Villa... 68.17.133.137 05:11, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks...[edit]

Admin?[edit]

Jeremy, are you at all interested in becoming an admin? I keep running into you on RC patrol, and it's much easier to deal with the vandals when you have the rollback button. Joyous 04:36, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA is up. Please go accept the nomination and answer the candidate questions. Best of luck! Joyous 05:13, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
Jeremy, I'll be out of town when your RfA ends, but things are looking so good over at the polls that I'm giving you some advance congratulations. Enjoy the keys to the mop closet! Joyous 22:55, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

RfA[edit]

I just noticed that you're on my temporary blacklist in CDVF, which means you were recently reverted by an admin. Do you know what edit of yours was reverted? I'd like to see why an admin would feel the need to roll back one of your edits. Kelly Martin 05:58, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

That's interesting. I'm not aware that I have ever been reverted by an admin, but I will check my recent contributions to see. How recent does it have to be to still be on your temp blacklist? I had a run-in with Ed Poor recently, but I reverted him rather than the other way round. JeremyA 06:09, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The revert in question would have been in the past few days, certainly not earlier than last Saturday. If there's an admin who is using rollback irresponsibly I want to know so I can take him off my whitelist. Kelly Martin 06:12, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your support[edit]

Thank you for your support of my candidacy for adminship. Kelly Martin 15:27, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

And just exactly what am I vandalizing? JarlaxleArtemis 02:14, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

It's a proven fact that he is a pedophile. He slept with young boys; therefore, he is a pedophile. Look the word "pedophile" up in the dictionary. JarlaxleArtemis 02:22, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations![edit]

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 04:31, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You're more than welcome, Jeremy, and congratulations. Be good with it! SlimVirgin (talk) 05:45, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

  • Congratulations, Jeremy. Ombudsman 06:13, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Congratulations, Jeremy! I see that you've already put your rollback button to good use. --Canderson7 13:01, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Discussion at Talk:Pakistan[edit]

Would you like to join the animated discussion on the Pakistan's talk page? The current issue is whether "Pakistan is famous for its support of Taliban and 9/11 terrorist" is a suitable sentence to start the article's first paragraph. Your contribution would be much appreciated, as the current discussion seems to be more of a dialog between Ragib and SamTr014 (talk • contribs). Thanks!--PrinceA 06:08, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox[edit]

It may have been a one time thing, but you didn't need to revert the sandbox. You can't vandalise the sandbox, that's kind of what it's for. Howabout1 Talk to me! 04:22, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

I didn't realise the sandbox header was removed, it didn't show up on the history. Howabout1 Talk to me! 04:30, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion: Haunted[edit]

Maybe English is your second language? As I stated in both the talk page for Haunted and in my entry of it on the speedy deletion page, another page for the exact same subject exists at Haunted where the entry is more structured, less messy and better written. What part of that did you not understand when I mentioned in the first two times? Furthermore why in the hell did you delete my speedy deletion tag? Did you even BOTHER to visit the speedy deletion page to see where I listed it for speedy deletion? Did you even BOTHER to check the discussion page to see if someone explained why the tag was added?! With as much respect as I can muster, you need to fine tune your usage of wikipedia if you're going to be making decisions like that. I'm re-adding the deletion tag until someone gets around to doing it.Pacian 02:28, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sarcasm and blunt forthrightness does not equal incivility. You should have waited until you knew exactly what was going on before removing the tag. You don't take the tag down and THEN find out whether or not it belongs; you do the reverse. In this case you were apparently correct in it's removal, but that doesn't change the fact that you didn't follow procedure. Say you were a librarian: if you found a book shelved in a section where you did not think it belonged, but you weren't certain, you wouldn't take the book and throw it on the floor until you found out whether or not you were correct. You wouldn't PRESUME. Anyhow, no, I don't know how to do a redirect, though I suppose after 2 years of contributing it's about time I learn, so feel free to leave instructions on my talk page. There is no information on the page I tagged for deletion that is not already on the other page, so the entirety of it's contents can be removed. However, I believe in this case a DISAMBIGUATION page for "Haunted" should be made instead, as there are other pages that someone typing "haunted" may be looking for. Pacian 02:50, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The joy of being two clearly intelligent people is that we can heatedly disagree in every concievable way and still work together effectively. Hell, as an entertainer is a cornerstone of my professional life. Thank you for teaching me how to do an effective redirect. I will utilize this in the future. Pacian 03:07, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
