Orphaned non-free media (Image:FlTechCOA.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:FlTechCOA.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:35, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

October 2007 Alum Rock earthquake, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that October 2007 Alum Rock earthquake satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/October 2007 Alum Rock earthquake and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of October 2007 Alum Rock earthquake during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:11, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

My signature

So... this is for people who randomly end up on my talk page...

I'd like my signature to be this:

 -  Jameson L. Tai  ( talk  contribs

However, that signature has too much code for Wikipedia to accept... anyone know how to shrink the signature down without compromising the color of the links? - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 02:02, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

I think it confused to you and me also. But I think, may be I know, that category is not created in main namespace!

That user is new and newbies has capacity to baffle even Jimbo Wales. TRIRASH 09:58, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

i dont know who jimbo wales is. but , i can assure you that "Rich Camarillo" is a "national football conference" pro bowl player in,(89, 91, 92 & 93)... he was for whatever reason? not included in "that catagories" wikipedia listing... but you can look it up in any NFL record or fact book or official NFL encyclopedia, NFL football register,etc.. the wikepedia listing has missed on this and has omitted it, but it is absolutely true! (Preceding comment was unsigned by User:RJMLNLERC)

Please... use spell check. the spelling errors are killing my eyes... X_X And just a friendly reminder... please sign your comments. Thanks. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 23:37, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your contribution. First, please list all images used for this ad, in order for this ad to not violate using fair use images. Second, please rename your file to Image:Qxz-ad106.gif instead of Image:Image-Qxz-ad106.gif, because the Image:Image gif won't work well with the template. Thanks. Your userpage

No problem, although the first revert did cause me some trouble - have a look at the diff [[1]] and you'll see what I mean - never seen anything like that before! Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 07:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Specific ad scripting

Is there a way to only display certain ads on the list? I'm part of several projects right now and it would be nice for me to only display ads of the ones I'm a part of (hoping I'm not coming across as a complete douch3bag when you read this...) Is there a way to do this? Thanks a lot! Happy editing! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:42, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes. Do you grok the way I modified the code here? Λυδαcιτγ 05:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Alternatively you can use the ad parameter, (this saves having to copy and modify the whole template). To view just one ad, use for example {{Wikipedia ads|ad=50}}. To choose randomly between more than one, use a {{#switch:}} statement; for example to choose between ads 6, 25, 67 and 92, use
{{Wikipedia ads|ad={{#switch:{{#expr:{{NUMBEROFEDITS:R}} mod 4}}|0=6|1=25|2=67|3=92}}}}
Gurch 13:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
OMG that is so much easier... lol Thanks... I was looking at the code last night and I have been putting it off until this morning to deal with because the code was slightly giving me a headache... (migranes don't help... lol) - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 16:09, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Tagging Articles for Maintenance

I noticed you beat me to tagging a few articles for maintenance already today. Since you're a Twinkle user, you may want to check out Friendly to make tagging easier for yourself. I'd also appreciate any feedback you could give since I think the usage is still pretty low at this point. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:43, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Tagged for deletion

Jameson- my wiki entitled "De Soto High School" was tagged for deletion. I want to use the page as part of a class assignment for my students. I understand the reason the page was tagged- can you help me understand how to edit/adjust the page to allow it to stay? Or- can the page be placed somewhere else in the Wikipedia website?

Thanks- I appreciate it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Integrated3 (talkcontribs) 16:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Crashplan

Okay. I've modified the Crashplan page to remove what you might have thought as spam. Please take a look at it, and if you still think it's not relevant, please let me know why and how I could make it more acceptable. I'm trying to find a way to publicly post more information about this software as the company's website doesn't have enough information, and there might be misinformation which others should know about (IE: not able to make local backups as they claim). Thanks. TazzyTazzy 19:38, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Okay. Rewrote the entire page. No more FAQ. It's in article style, or comments by me or whatever within the article. I wrote at as NPV as I could. What else? ;-) TazzyTazzy 20:19, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Jamesontai. In regards to your addition of a fair use image in Template:FloridaTechTemplate, templates cannot contain fair use images per WP:NFCC#9. If a free version can be obtained or created, that would be appropriate for use in the template. Regards, LaraLove 18:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

In regards to this image, I am following the precedence set by the University of Florida. Please refer to Template:University of Florida and their use of a non-free image. Its copyright information should be the same as the Florida Institute of Technology logo. Free image will not be possible since the image is copyrighted by the university, but the version I am using came out of the University Publications office of Florida Tech. Please advise. Thanks. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 18:18, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Neither template should be using a non-free image. WP:NFCC#9 reads, "Non-free content is allowed only in articles, and only in article namespace." Not templates. If there is no free equivalent, there needs to be no image. Also, you can reply only here, I'm watching. :) LaraLove 18:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
OK. I'll replace it with another picture. I'll just follow how UC Berkeley does it then. Thanks!  :-) - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 19:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Way to go slapping tags on this article.

You know, none of this is new to this article, it's all copied from other places, which I agree, need more silly tags from people like you. Anyway, this is the point of that article - put all the stuff in one place so the weasel words won't be able to survive where people might actually read it. -Theanphibian (talkcontribs) 19:55, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Before you accuse me of "slapping tags", please actually read what that tag states. If you believe that I have made an error, you may discuss it on the article's discussion page. Please do not spam my talk page when you have not read what the WP:NPOV standards are. Thanks and happy editing. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 19:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I came here to explain what I'm doing and hopefully prompt you to explain what you're doing. The text you read in that article was not written by me, and I have been editing it. I know what NPOV is, and I hope you know the etiquette for using tags. The reason the tag was added should be addressed on the talk page, epically when requested. The article is currently a conversation between me and myself right now, and I would be delighted for you to join. If you want the issues to be addressed or even want the tag to stay, you need to say something there - that is, if the reason you put it there is even relevant after the most recent changes. -Theanphibian (talkcontribs) 20:49, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I placed the tag as your article appeared in the new pages patrol. When I read the article, it looked like an article that may have NPOV issues. The tag says "may", not does, and I admit that I do not have the enough background knowledge at this time to properly assess the article. I'll come back to it when it does. Keep waiting. Happy Editing! :-) - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 02:27, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
umm, okay. The original text did have POV problems. That's because it came from Environmental concerns with electricity generation, which probably should have the tag on it... I guess that's what frustrates me, that the articles that need this attention still don't get it. -Theanphibian (talkcontribs) 17:23, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

bump. -Theanphibian (talkcontribs) 07:03, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Great. I'll keep Environmental effects of nuclear power on my watchlist. Please move discussion regarding my thoughts of improving the article further (not just the NPOV stuff). Thanks for the bump! :-) - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 08:55, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Deleting my page

You deleted TimeWasters, while there are many many other webcomic pages out there with no reason why it is notable. Please tell me why. Lord Mark(talk) 18:39, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I came across your webcomic page when I was performing new page patrols. Please review the notability standards of Wikipedia as well as what Wikipedia is not. Your page was not deleted by myself. I only nominated your article for speedy deletion. It was the author/main contributor's choice to not add the {{hangon}} script to the article for preservation. I applied the speedy tag within 10 minutes of the article's creation. It should not have been hard to monitor the article for 10 minutes. Again, I hope you have already read about the notability guidelines. Please review your article and just because other webcomics are on Wikipedia does not mean your webcomic will be as well. You must prove the notability of the subject with verifiable sources with neutral point of view and without conflict of interest. May I suggest the new editor's guide on writing articles for light reading material before you start another article or attempt to resurrect your webcomic article? Tip: If you are not ready to deploy a fully complete article for other Wikipedia editors for review, comment, tag, etc., please don't put it up until it's ready. If you need a place to test your work, coding, etc., you can use the Sandbox in your namespace. Ex: [[User:Lord mark/Sandbox1]]. Happy Editing!
- Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 08:13, 12 November 2007 (UTC) Note: I clear my watchlist frequently, so if you need further correspondence, please send all messages to my talk page.

Hi. For what reason do you think this article (which I just created) is not noteworthy? There are much more articles about smaller places, and much shorter place-related articles. And how do you think can it be more wikified? --escondites 09:32, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

General notability is in question here. I understand that you are trying to create articles for every single municipality and area in Algeria. However, if your articles are really only three sentences each, then perhaps a table of all of your combined articles you've created.
For example, you can sort the table by name, Arabic name, lit. name, type of area (municipality, province, etc), location, country, population, representation in PMA, postal code, and municipal code. I believe that should cover your articles' bases. Consider it. If you believe this is not necessary and you believe you have enough information to expand every single article you've created with your three sentence template, feel free to remove the notability tag. However, if you're not, I would suggest you merge all of them into one big table listing.
- Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 18:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC) Note: I frequently clear my watchlist, so if you have further correspondence, please continue to send messages on my talk page. Thanks! :-) Happy editing!

Thank you for tagging my article. I don't want you to think I'm just a newbie being sarcastic, I'm actually saying thanks; I didn't expect it to get a tag so quickly. That's the first article I've created, and hopefully in the near future I can make it more than a couple sentences. I also am hoping to build and expand other geology articles as well. It's definately not to standards yet, though; I'll fix it if no one else does soon. Thanks. Professor Chaos 03:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

The article was already deleted. If you're not ready to place your article for review, please keep your work in your Sandbox until it is completely ready for review. Hm... I was well aware that Calibri isn't installed on all systems, but I figured with the deployment of Office 2007 that Calibri would be a more common font. "No meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent" yet Shameless (TV series) is considered meaningful or historical?? I'm afraid that these terms are not only incorrect but they are insulting. Please consider asking first leading-with questions such as, "what is the history of this" and/or "I do not know much about this topic. So much is my ignorance that I want to use the word 'incoherent' . Please tell me what this subject is about".

That will net you many fewer upset replies in your talk, sir. Till then you're just upsetting people and I'm sure that's not your goal, is it?

Wow, you're complaining to me now? 13 days after I replied? It is up to any editor on Wikipedia to consider whether an article is within reason to post as speedy deletion. Since I was not the person who actually deleted the article, only the person who suggested to have the article deleted, please do not gripe on my talk page telling me how I should or should not contribute to Wikipedia. If you have further questions, please contact the administrator responsible for deleting your article. Please also note: If you have problems with other people editing or deleting your material, don't post it. I didn't come up with that either. It's one of Wikipedia's many policies. mideast minute

The time it took for you to post the tag was 1 minute. How do you even have time to research it? You would need a time-stopping stopwatch and an unimaginable broadband speed to do this (which I find highly unlikely).

Anyway, I'm not sure (it's been a while since I read the rules), but I thought CSD was only to be used for articles that were blatant vandalism and/or about obviously unnotable events, people, or things. Afd (as I recall) was for articles that you suspect to be false or unnotable. How is this article different from many others? It is a simple informational page with zero advertising? Blandish 08:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

The company's notability in this case would rely on the amount of players of the specific games and/or publicity of said games to the public. And since the games aren't even in the Wikipedia system (or the author has not linked them... I refuse to do the dirty work), notability guidelines dictate that this is an unremarkable company. Oh yeah...no press = zero notability.  :-) Have a great day! :D - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 08:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
There is publicity for this company. Plenty reviews, including the Washington Post, televised interviews in Canada and thousands of customers. I must therefore be misunderstanding exactly what is expect and I've read the guidelines. The products were linked, but the page was still marked for deletion and so I removed the links thinking it was misconstrued as advertising. I'm confused as to what exactly is lacking. Links to all the press articles? Thanks for taking the time with this. Blandish 08:42, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I didn't tag the article for deletion when there were product links. In fact the only article history (the first one) is "04:20, 4 December 2007 Blandish (Talk | contribs) (614 bytes) (Removed all links to product pages)" So... I don't know what you're talking about. However, I meant links as in internal Wikipedia links to already established articles, not just external links you can pull up on the company's website. If you cannot justify the individual games as individual articles on Wikipedia, then the company producing them shall most likely be considered as not notable. Also, the claim that there are numerous reviews, tv interviews, and what not have not been tagged as references for your article. If you want your article to survive the speedy deletion, I'd suggest you dig up those interviews and reviews and start writing more about the company...which for you, it shouldn't be hard since you have a business affiliation of some sort with them anyways. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 08:57, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the info. That clears things up for me. I will do as you suggest and put together more information. My main reason for keeping it simple was to avoid it being seen as advertising, but I will put more info on and hopefully next time it won't get flagged. The links were added to the page before the first time it was deleted. Not all products have pages on wikipedia, but a couple do. Thanks again for your input. Cheers! :) PS. Sorry about screwing up the talk page. Blandish 18:24, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Tolstoj quadrangle

Hi, I'm curious what you think needs to be expanded on in Tolstoj quadrangle. You flagged it as needing expansion only a minute after I submitted it, so it must be something major, but I'm just not seeing it. Bryan Derksen 09:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Expanding your article as it is may not be necessary. However, as you are publishing this to Wikipedia, not necessary academic publishing, you are opening this article up for editing and as a new article that may trigger professionals in the field to evaluate and expand this article, I have tagged it for those purposes.
Wikification is to put the article up to par. Have you tried adding any pictures? As this is an encyclopedia, it is also something on the internet as well. As an average internet user only has an attention span of about 15-30 seconds, you may want to add any type of mixed media into this article as well.
I would also like to see the red links either be removed, fixed, or new articles be written. Red links are eyesores. :-)
Last but not least, your sources section is very extensive (I like it). However, can you please tag the specific sources you used with <tt><ref></tt>? It makes it easier for users to evaluate your sources to the paragraph(s) you wrote. Peer editing is key here on Wikipedia. Also, it makes your reference section uniformly formatted.
Glad to be of help. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Copyright status on my photos Tuesday Dec. 4th 4:30am

I own the copy rights to my photos. Seeing as the option I was looking for was not on the pull down bar, I simply put "Unknown". Can we please edit this? Thanks so very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SheRocksItOut (talkcontribs) 10:27, 4 December 2007

I'm only responsible for tagging your article, not pictures. As you can see from other posts on my talk page, it is apparent that I may not know as much about image rights compared to my knowledge about new page patrolling. Please talk to the person who tagged your pictures instead. Good luck. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:49, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! I was about to move the above-named image to the Commons (to make it available to other projects), but I have a question about the copyright status. You noted on the upload that the photographer is Rodd Newcombe of FIT, but you don't indicate how the photo came to be in your possession. That is, you've not listed a source (if you got it from a website) or any other sort of information that indicates how you got it and why the copyright holder has released it as a GFDL image. In addition, the GFDL copyright tag you used was {{GFDL-self}}, which is fine if you happen to be Rodd Newcombe (and if that's the case, you can disregard the above concern about a source). If not, though, you'll have to switch to one of the other GFDL tags. Cheers! Esrever 16:49, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm not Rodd Newcombe. However, I got this image after he emailed it to me for Wikipedia upload. I mean I have the email still, I'm just not comfortable with copy and pasting the entire email conversation just to prove fair use purposes. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:39, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. Just make sure to note that the image isn't {{GFDL-self}} and perhaps put somewhere in your summary on the image's page that copyright information was given to you by email. If someone objects, you may eventually have to forward that info on to someone, though. Esrever 17:54, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Great... I imagine it won't get to that point...considering the person who sent me the image is the Director of Academic Support Services at Florida Institute of Technology.  :-) But then again... hahahhaah Thanks! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but I've got another image question. The above image is listed as being available under a Creative Commons license. However, as a logo of the university, it is almost certainly copyrighted. I've changed the tag on that image and the other FIT logo to reflect that fact. Given the restrictions listed here, it's safe to assume that the university has not released this image under a free license. That being the case, you'll have to remove it from your userpage, as non-free images can't be used in userspace. Sorry! Esrever 16:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Likewise, the high school logo on your userpage probably needs to go as well. Though it may have been your efforts in Photoshop that extrapolated the logo, the logo itself remains copyrighted by the original creator. Thus, you can't release it under a free license. Cheers! Esrever 17:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
The Florida Tech logo was released to by Florida Institute of Technology University Publications, as stated. The Lowell logo, since it is a photoshopped piece of art, it should be ok. However, noting your comments, instead of battling out who's right on this (I don't have time for this) I might just switch to random photos of the university and high school instead. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

ScenioSitter

Jamesontai: You speedy-deleted a notable article: ScenioSitter. I think you were wrong to do this. You did not give me any time at all to fix the article, it was deleted after a few hours without giving me a chance. This is not right. I will work on making it better formatted, please do not delete again without giving me a chance to fix any concerns. Thank you. Billsstory (talk) 16:23, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. I did not delete your article. An admin did. I only tagged the article for deletion. For future reference, please read the talk page instructions, generally you are to post talk threads in ascending order (newest posts to the bottom). - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 19:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Just a heads up. I think you're doing great work for WP:UNI, but just be careful when you are referencing the article guidelines. As the tag on the top of that page states, they are not policy nor guidelines yet but rather are proposed guidelines. Until consensus is gained and the guidelines are approved they are not much more than some ideas that a few people have about university articles. If you are going to reference something I would suggest using WP:ORG and WP:N for deleting student union articles. This is what the WP:UNI guidelines are based on anyway, so it should have the same effect without the contention that you seem to be getting. If you have any thoughts or questions just let me know, but I thought I'd clear that up. Keep up the great work! —Noetic Sage 22:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Sphinx Head

Jameson L. Tai, I kindly request that you please reconsider your evaluation of the Sphinx Head Society article. The Society is an well-established institution on the Cornell campus, much like Quill and Dagger, whose page is untouched with such threats of deletion. Also, I do not know why the Sphinx Head page receives so much criticism when a great deal of the articles on the List of collegiate secret societies are much more poorly constructed and cited. As a co-creator of the article, I feel as if a free-standing page is deserved by a group who has committed over 117 years of service to one of the greatest Universities in the world. I know you have considerable qualms with the page, but I ask that you please help us to improve the free-standing version as opposed to just asking us to delete it and put it somewhere else. Your consideration, guidance, and support would be greatly appreciated. User:GoBigRed1865 (talk) 03:52, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for keeping a clear head when you sent me the message. Although I appreciate you keeping that message kind, my mind has been set on the deletion of the article, simply because it is what it is. Your mention to the list of secret societies as well as not having AfDed other student union articles is really not supposed to be targeted towards your organization and I understand your frustrations.
Two of my earliest articles were deleted when I first started Wikipedia back in 2003 in my old account, and again when I proposed two student organization/union-related articles in 2005/2006, respectively. Trust me, I've tried to argue policy, notability, even pleaded with one of the editors to not speedy tag my article, and I thought that my article would stick, but two weeks later when I was bogged down with finals and other schoolwork, my organization article was deleted by another editor.
It is understandable and believe me, I've tried, but after weeks of researching those notability and now this set of university article guidelines as well, it really narrows down to what is acceptable and what isn't. Instead of going through with this battle that may end up wiping out your work (when they delete the article again, you won't even get the old history to retrieve the information to merge into the Cornell article), I suggest that you back up the current copy of the article, condense it into an acceptable length and just place it into the Cornell article. Hindsight's 20/20, and for someone who's done this twice now, it's just easier to accept the rules and begin merging. For an alternative approach to listing student organizations on campus, see Florida Institute of Technology#Student organizations.
And by the way, we're really not targeting you guys. WikiProject Universities is pretty small, we've only got about a handful of editors who actively participate in editing and discussing improvements on the potentially thousands of articles that are already listed that are affiliated with the project already, and possibly thousands more that haven't yet been affiliated or written. We have no control over the secret societies, but we'll eventually get to the other student union/organizations.
Happy editing and good luck! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 09:14, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
  • I believe this article/ stub should not be deleted because it is a noteworthy sports venue in Hamilton and other sports venues and golf courses already have stubs & articles created here on wikipedia. Hello, first of all no one is "whining" and my name is not "dude"...you can call me Rick. I figured if the three that I listed for you as examples never recieved a request for article deletion then it would be ok to create a stub for the local Hamilton, Ontario golf course like I did. Did you have a look at those 3 that I gave to you as examples? Why don't you place a request for article deletion on those as well while you're at it? I just finished AfDing all three of them. Don't think I'm attacking you or anything, Rick. Trigger-happy!

Jamesontai, I find your action in applying a speedy-delete tag to a sub-page that I made at my user-page ridiculously fast and thoughtless! See User_talk:Noetica/ActionMOSVP, where I have put this text:

Speedy deletion???

This page, a sub-page of my own user-page, is being set up as a location for discussion by MOS editors. See recent discussion at WT:MOS for details. I think the application of this speedy-deletion tag was very precipitous, and I would like it removed as soon as possible. Note that the page did have content, so the tag is technically incorrect. It had the annotation coming soon – which says it all, if you give the matter a moment's though!

I expect you to remove the tag immediately, and I await your apology. – Noetica♬♩Talk 04:51, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Twinkle placed your userpage article as a new page patrol. I could have sworn it wasn't on a user page (did you place a redirect?), but it might just be me trying to do WP:NPP right after taking final exams... -_- In the middle of typing this, I was simultaneously trying to remove the speedy tag, but it looks like some one beat me to it. Orphaned non-free media (Image:The Crimson.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:The Crimson.png.

Nonsense?

Hello Jameson. I have noticed at least two new pages that you have tagged with {{db-nonsense}} that do not meet the definition of WP:NONSENSE, which states:

1. Total nonsense, i.e., text or random characters that have no assignable meaning at all. This includes sequences such as "akdjaioodjosfd5sdgjgdsiu489eh4 ohe89dsgjoisdjgo4dgsjha[j'z", in which keys of the keyboard have been pressed with no regard for what is typed (or typed with the eyes closed).
2. Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no reasonable person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever.

I would like to suggest that you more thoroughly familiarize yourself with the speedy deletion criteria before continuing on new page patrol. Thanks —Travistalk 00:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Interesting. I see your examples, yet I don't see examples of what I did wrong. Please enlighten me with those examples. I have been doing NPP for months now. I'm pretty sure I didn't screw up NPP categorization, but in the slight chance that I might have clicked the wrong category, I apologize in advance. - Jameson L. From Gunnar Doyle:

Gunnar Doyle was the best all time wrestler. Even know he is only 9, his efforts behind the camera, he can pin any WWE superstar including the Undertaker. He a and Hornswoggle make an amazzing team. Those two little guys can pin Big Daddy V easy. Gunnar Doyle- Ring Name: Gunnar the Great -Debut: 2006 -Birth: February 19, 1998

A dubious “biography,” but not nonsense as defined above. I believe that the other article I noticed was also a dubious bio. I agree that these articles are/were nonsense in the colloquial sense, but not per WP:NONSENSE. Cheers —Travistalk 00:47, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for holding the WP:NONSENSE to the letter. I would see how you do new page patrols, but I don't have the time to review your logs. However, that example is in fact nonsense, like you said, may not be how the policy is, but it is still nonsense. A nine year-old wrestler to go into WWE? Come on, it's also violating (if you're taking the article for face value) WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. I understand where you're coming from, but it does not warrant me re-studying Wikipedia policies before performing NPP like you're stating. Anyways, I'm going on a WikiBreak. Hacking article

I noticed that you put a {{notability}} tag on the new Hacking article I am working on.

I personally feel this tag is controversial, since a Wikipedia article can be about any topic, as long as valid references can be provided. I know there are valid references on hacking. The most memorable one I have ever seen was one in the Baltimore Sun some years ago that described in detail the practice of hacking, its pitfalls for hacker and customer alike, and how local law enforcement was cracking down on such activity. As I have searched on Google for other sources on the topic, many of the articles I have found that are suitable as references also describe the city of Baltimore, which leads me to believe that Baltimore takes such action very seriously, perhaps more than many other cities.

In order to be more global, I am considering renaming the article to "Illegal taxicab operation" or something similar, and expanding its topic to also include the unlicensed operation of a marked taxicab vehicle (sometimes known as a "gypsy cab"). There are plenty of online references available on that. Hellno2 (talk) 20:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

In order to establish notability, please list the sources like the Baltimore Sun article you've mentioned. It is easy to believe a topic to be notable, but until you list the specific references per main point you're writing about in the article, it is not only technically not notable, but also unsourced. As to renaming the article, I believe you should rename the article's title, but have the term hacking still in reference inside the article. You may also want to establish a disambiguation for the term as well. Happy Holidays! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 21:05, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Syracuse University

Jameson,

I am not "blanking out" content from the Syracuse University website. I am a student at Syracuse University and I know for a fact that Syracuse is no longer affiliated with the Methodist Church. In fact, the school's website says that it cut ties from the church in 1920. Please visit this link and scroll down to 1920: http://www.syr.edu/aboutsu/chronology/1906.html.

Also, what gives you the right to block me from Wikipedia? My edits are as valid as the next person's, especially considering the fact that I am correcting errors on this page.

Actually, you were removing lines and lines of content from the article. And every administrator has the right to block you from editing Wikipedia. The blocking section was part of a standard message automatically generated from undoing vandalism towards an article. Please do not take offense, instead, try to understand this article's content and improve it. Three articles accessed on June 30, 2007 pointed that SU is still in relations with the Methodist Church and your comments are uncalled for. Please clear your head before approaching me again. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 03:55, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Jameson,

The only "lines and lines" of content that I removed was the content that referenced Syracuse University as related to the Methodist Church. The three sources that you cite are Methodist websites. The actual Syracuse University website, however, states that the University no longer maintains relations with the church. Given this conflict, I would imagine that the University's official website has precedence over third party sources.

Actually, although Wikipedia does accept .edu sources, it is better to use verified sources that are not the article subject's own website. However, noting what you're saying, Syracuse is still considered Methodist (if you know what I'm saying). Just because it's no longer sectarian doesn't mean it doesn't have affiliations. I'm not sure if I'm getting through to you or not... Anyways, please establish a Wikipedia account, as anonymous IP accounts are known to frequently cause endless amounts of spam, and remember to sign your comments by typing four tildes (~~~~). This way people know where the comments came from and where to reply to. The four tildes will act as a signature, which will indicate your username/IP address, a link to your talk page, as well as the time and date you posted the comment automatically. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Jameson,

Notwithstanding the fact that Syracuse is a member of the International Association of Methodist-related Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU), Syracuse is NOT "considered Methodist." Mere membership in the IAMSCU does not make the school Methodist. For example, Northwestern University is a member of the the IAMSCU and was originally founded under Methodist auspices but is no longer affiliated with the church (please refer to Northwestern University). The same history holds true for Syracuse. Furthermore, Syracuse University maintains a chapel on campus and provides Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist services for it's students. There is no strong Methodist tradition alive at Syracuse University today. To say otherwise on the Wikipedia article would give prospective students the wrong impression of the school and is just patently false. (Ttiwed (talk) 04:25, 24 December 2007 (UTC))

OK... so who am I talking to now?? Am I still talking to the anonymous IP person now logged in to an old account named Ttiwed? or is Ttiwed a completely different person/roommate/or someone just started calling their friends about this issue?
Anyways, I suggest you take this conversation to the article's talk page. Yes, there's a discussion page on SU's article for a reason...this would be a prime example.- Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:29, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

You asked me to sign in and sign with four tildes so I did. There's really no reason for a roommate to come in and speak for me. Also, If you bothered to notice, I did take this conversation to the Syracuse University talk page about a month ago [2]. Also, your perturbed tone is uncalled for. Please clear your head and get back to me later if you care to discuss further. Thanks bro. (Ttiwed (talk) 04:42, 24 December 2007 (UTC))

Yeah, but sources aren't the problem. The article is too long in general and needs more summary style writing. There aren't really any more generic sources. I'm just sourcing everything before I shrink it down. Don't worry. Wrad (talk) 03:59, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

The article claims some (unref) notability, thus rendering it inelligible for speedy deletion. Try prod or AFD? - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 21:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't see how it demonstrates notability when it's unreferenced, as you mentioned. As remarked in the CSD guidelines, the bio was about an unremarkable person. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 22:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
In addition, the two external links include the casting agency she was signed with and the greek organization she's affiliated with at FSU. These are really external links, not references. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 22:32, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks for your New Year greetings and all the best to you for 2008. We are struggling with a temperature of 42C in Melbourne right now. --Bduke (talk) 06:07, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

You too Bduke? Hot, or what? Luckily I'm in the Dandenongs, where it's just a little cooler.

Hey Jameson! Thanks for the card! All the best for 2008, any many happy collaborations.

Depends. When did you graduate? —Kurykh 06:09, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Most likely not. I'm in the class of 2008, and I don't really know anyone from the class of 2005. —Kurykh 06:12, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the greeting. Happy New Year to you too! —Kurykh 06:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Same here, happy new year!

AWB

Hello! I am just getting used to AWB myself, but here's how I use it to correct typos:

  • I turn on the option Enable RegexTypoFix (but no other options).
  • I pick a typo from the Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings such as almsot or becuase and make a list using the "Make from Google Search" option.
  • I start the process and, if the suggestions are simple and reasonable (they are not always), I "save" to make the correction.

A few things to watch out for:

  • Though you can double-click bad edit suggestions to tell AWB not to make them, it will still include them in the edit summary! I don't know how to make it not do that, so in that case I just edit the page in a separate browser and tell AWB to ignore it.
  • AWB will find more typos than just the one you searched for, so make sure you want all of them before you accept changes! If I don't, again I just edit in a separate browser.

I am also a big fan of User:Lupin/Live_spellcheck and the other pages that use the anti-vandal tool, and actually do most of my typo checking and anti-vandalism patrolling with these. Have you tried them?

Hope this helps. Happy New Year! KathrynLybarger (talk) 06:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:2007 the crimson format switch.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 1 != 2 17:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:The Crimson.png)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:The Crimson.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. 1 != 2 17:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, first I am not a bot which is what I assume you mean when you said "crawly thing". Secondly copyrighted images must be used under a fair use rational and a) cannot be used outside of the article space, and b) cannot be hosted on Wikipedia unless it is used in such a manner in at least one article.

Please do not revert the removal of these images from your sandbox. 1 != 2 23:55, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

If you are working on an article that needs these images, but it is not ready for the article space yet then you can save them to your hard drive and use placeholder images till you are ready, then upload them. 1 != 2 23:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

1 does equal to 2, for very high values of 1... lol - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 02:23, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the review you provided. It's refreshing to see an editor actually working to improve articles. I made most of the changes you recommended (they were great suggestions) and marked the reasons why I didn't make the others. Thanks again. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 04:38, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I've been around for a while, basically moving all over the place as my interests vary. Thanks for the suggestion, but I prefer to delete comments after the thread is done. It just makes it easier for me. I can always review in history if I need to go back to something and it also makes the pests of Wikipedia have to work harder (smile).
I wasn't worried about being blocked by the admin...I expressed my side of the issue and she was fine with it.
I appreciate your good hopes, but I and others who edit articles related to Georgia colleges and universities have had problems with a particular editor before. If you look at the Savannah State history you will see where he was responsible for blanking the entire page at one point because he said he found copyvio material on the page. It took an admin to get him to leave the page alone. Hopefully other editors will keep him in check because I'm done with the issue.
Thanks again for the comments. Keep up the good work.
Absolon S. Kent (talk) 05:03, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I made a few modifications. Note I gave you and the other users credit for the original work (smile). Absolon S. Kent (talk) 09:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh no, that's fine, I know you gave us credit for the talk page code... look at your revision history, you'll see that I fixed your red-linked user names...lol - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 09:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Got that...Thanks again. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 09:50, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

AC6 AFD

saw your warning to Mike I cool RE: Estovakia AFD. since i dont know how to report it to the AFD area, can you also nominate Republic of Emmeria as well? Thanks. Eaglestorm (talk) 08:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about the confusion, the first AfD was a redlinked Emmeria, so I assumed that was what you were talking about. FYI: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Republic of Emmeria; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Estovakia. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 09:06, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

CSD-R3 contested

Your CSD-R3 against my edits are all contested. You are encouraged to contact me before doing any more of the same. Thank you very much.--Endroit (talk) 09:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hm... The only redirects that I have placed speedies on are all in foreign languages. Last time I checked, it was approved under the fact that users would not be entering Chinese or Japanese into the English Wikipedia. If I am mistaken, I'd like to apologize in advance. Please let me know and I won't nominate the other foreign language redirects from now on. Happy editing! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 10:02, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Please read WP:UE#Include alternatives. That section suggests redirects from foreign scripts are OK, under the "use English" rule.--Endroit (talk) 10:05, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
When I first started Wikipedia a year and a half ago, I did remember reading something that said the complete opposite (then again it's been a year and half...). I'll abide by this one then. Thanks for updating this old fart's WikiKnowledge. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 10:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
No problem. And thank you for your understanding. The redirects and dab's from Chinese scripts are only intended to redirect users to the appropriate article in English. It's not intended to confuse English readers... But if it seems confusing, please let me know, and I'll do the best to fix the situation.--Endroit (talk) 10:16, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, it's certainly not confusing me personally...it's just that when I first started Wikipedia I was told not to do that. But yeah, I read those redirects just fine... (I understand Chinese pretty well, and as for Japanese, I can't say the same, but if I was kidnapped right now and transported to Japan I'm pretty sure I can summon enough Japanese left in me from high school to at least not get myself killed...lol) Anyways, thank you for understanding as well. - Jameson L. Yes, it's that time again. New articles have been added. I finished this process early because I'll be running around packing and sorting out Friday's weather patterns so I can get back to Florida in time. Just in case things don't go well, at least I don't sabotage the COTF program. Anyways, the three new articles will start on Friday and you may edit the three technically still in COTF (although I've placed the collaboration-past tags already) or you may start editing early.

Here's something I want to try, start treating it as a peer review. Start by skimming through the article, making sure the article fits our article guidelines. Then review for content: any copyvio, notability issues, reference listings, following the Manual of Style.

And here's something even more radical. See if you can attract authors currently maintaining the different COTF articles to join our WikiProject and better yet, our COTF project. I found when I started this program, jumping ships and editing other universities' articles was a big leap, but it's been very fun so far. I'd like to see more people actively participating.

Let's start off the new year the right way. I want to see those articles in GAR and FAN soon. I was sad we didn't have enough people working on the Harvard article to push it to FA or GA. But no matter, let's start fresh and begin! Hope everyone had a good holiday vacation (and if you didn't get a vacation, I hope you got a lot of double time). - Jameson L.
