Troop 34 Deletion[edit]

I do not think that Troop 34 article should be deleted, it is a fine article pending some changes, and it is not troop vanity. All troops deserve their own wiki article Abduncan4 02:41, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

fixed it[edit]

Thanks for the heads-up, I fixed the contact info thing. :-)--Jimbo Wales 15:23, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

American geocentrism[edit]

Thanks for your continued commitment to pointing out to most of the Americans that post questions to the reference desk that they are not in fact the only nation on the internet. It would be nice if my fellow countrymen didn't assume that they were all important in this way. If I ever screw up and post anything that reads as though I'm assuming that Americans are the only people on the net, I'm apologizing now for my blunder. Dismas|(talk) 13:58, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pang and Pong really have nothing to do with Ping. Why did you link them to the article? I reverted for now because it does not make sense. -Nv8200p talk 14:57, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • The only reason was their similar names. — JIP | Talk 15:01, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Page review[edit]

Hi JIP,

I was wondering if you could take a look at this page Bahá'í persecution. It is of course a controversial page and I am of course biased since I'm a Baha'i, but my edits to the page have been fully sourced from third party documentation from the United Nations, the EU, and Amnesty International. The other editor, Dawud, or the IP he uses from Taiwan (220.129.17.239) I believe is also biased, and has inserted his own POV, uncited references, which I believe have no reference in fact. I have asked him to cite his references, but he just reverts. He also has copied info from the Baha'i apologetics page which, while it is a criticism of the Baha'i Faith and should be there, is not persecution in that no human rights have been limited. The persectution pages of the the other religions (Persecution of Christians, Historical persecution by Muslims among others) define persection as "Persecution may refer to unwarranted arrest, imprisonment, beating, torture, or execution. It also may refer to the confiscation or destruction of property, or incitement to hate Christians."

The page has been revereted three times, so I don't want to do another revert, so I would ask you to look through my edits and his edits, and see give your unbiased opion.

Thanks -- Jeff3000 16:41, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I got the picture working but not the sound. — JIP | Talk 20:07, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

- ulayiti (talk) 01:19, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Olet ensimmäinen joka myöntää pupuhanskan edes olleen olemassa. Itse en ollut koskaan kuullut siitä. Ehkä se on jokin paikallinen juttu? — JIP | Talk 20:07, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moi, aattelin ilmoittaa että listasin tuon AfD:hen, kun en pitänyt sitä hirveän ensyklopedisenä. No offence though. :) - ulayiti (talk) 15:47, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Eivätkös kaikki tiedä että helsinkiläiset, tamperelaiset ja turkulaiset vihaavat toisiaan? Kommentoin tuota AfD:tä myöhemmin. — JIP | Talk 20:07, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

An Admin? Help me...[edit]

Hey there.

I recently listed Timeline of Harry Potter fan fiction for deletion, only to find that there was already an archived discussion on the issue, where the consensus had been to delete. But the article's still there, and not only that, the history diesn't show any addition of the afd template other than mine. I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Hopefully you lack my confusion. :) - Hayter 14:44, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I've taken care of this already. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 14:59, Dec. 23, 2005
OK, no worries, then. — JIP | Talk 20:07, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RSPCA disambig. page[edit]

Hi there,

About your edit on the RSPCA article when it wasn't a redirect. I belive your edit could have been counted as vandalism when you made it the "Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty by Animals". Please don't do it again. Not only does it only get one Google hit; it doesn't exist. --Kilo-Lima 18:15, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I won't do that joke again. — JIP | Talk 18:16, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks from Deathphoenix[edit]

Hi JIP,

I just wanted to thank you for supporting me in my RfA. To tell you the truth, I was surprised by all the support I've gotten. I never saw myself as more than an occasional Wiki-hobbyist.

My wife sends her curses, as Wikipedia will likely suck up more of my time. She jokingly (I think) said she was tempted to log on to Wikipedia just to vote Oppose and let everyone know that she didn't want her husband to be an admin.

I'll make sure your trust in me is founded. If you must know, our similarity in names is far from coincidence. We are seeking to form an army of immortal birds of fiery fury. --Deathphoenix 14:46, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

Thank you for your support in my request for adminship. I was promoted with a final tally of 31/1/1. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can assist with. --BorgQueen 22:57, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bohr bug[edit]

I redirected Bohr bug to Unusual software bug because the term Bohr bug is only used to distinguish a normal bug from a heisenbug, and Unusual software bug discusses this usage. There is not enough information to write a whole article on Bohr bugs (it would never be anything more than a dictionary definition). Do you think it would make more sense to redirect from Bohr bug to Software bug, or some other page? —Keenan Pepper 23:25, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think it would have made sense to redirect it to Software bug. — JIP | Talk 09:27, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Seth Ravin[edit]

Yikes. Would you be offended if I took this to WP:DRV for a wider net to be cast? While I understand that you've interpreted the non-standard "merges" in a broad manner, I'd think that almost everyone who took part would be suprised at this outcome. - brenneman(t)(c) 06:42, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfAdmin[edit]

I was rather explicit about my intentions on keeping it open... Please reverse your archive of the vote... Thank you. --Nick Catalano (Talk) 09:24, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have reversed it. You wrote "I would like to withdraw my withdraw of my nomination", which I misread as "I would like to withdraw my nomination". It would have been better if you had struck out the original withdrawal statement as "I would like to withdraw my nomination". — JIP | Talk 10:20, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for your support of my RfA; I appreciate your confidence. Best wishes for a happy new year, Tom Harrison Talk 13:27, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The rollback button[edit]

Hi JIP. I would like to ask you a favor, in a very trivial matter. I wonder if it is possible that you do not use the rollback button against anything else but vandals, I am talking about this edit. I understand that you rollbacked against yourself, and that's fine, but Wikipedia:Requests for adminship is not the best place to illustrate to admins and future admins, how one should use the rollback button in inappropriate manner. :) Wonder what you think. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 18:15, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • My reasons for reverting my own changes to the last version by User:Cecropia were purely technical and had nothing to do with my feelings about any user or their edits. I simply realised my latest change of removing Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/NickCatal had been wrong, because User:NickCatal did not withdraw his own RfA after all, so I used the fastest and easiest way I could think of to put his RfA back in. I do not see any problem in reverting my own edits using the rollback button, but if other people see it as inappropriate use, I might have to stop doing so. Is there any semantic meaning attached to using the rollback button, something like "it implies the previous edit was vandalism"? — JIP | Talk 18:20, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. I didn't know myself, so I went to look it up. It seems that Wikipedia:Administrators#Reverting it says that the rollback tool should only be used against vandals, everything else requires an edit summary. Hope that answers the question. :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 18:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

JIP, just want to say thanks for your support vote in my RfA! I am now an admin, and will do my best to ensure that, like the Kalevala, my career as an admin is long and distinguished! You blocked 152.163.100.199. In case ypu wern't aware, this is an AOL address. I just hit this block. I am about to unblock this address. DES (talk) 08:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, I wasn't aware it was an AOL address. I saw some vandalism from that address yesterday evening, and seeing that it had already been warned with {{test4}}, I proceeded to block it for 24 hours. I'm sorry if I accidentally hit an address you were using. — JIP | Talk 08:43, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Many thanks for your support on my request for adminiship, I'm sure you'll be glad to know the final result was 92/1/0. I am now an administrator and (as always) if I do anything you have issue with, please talk about it with me. --Alf melmac 10:37, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Francs2000's Bureaucratship

Thanks for your support on my request for bureaucratship.

The final outcome was (70/5/0), so I am now a bureaucrat. I seriously didn't expect so many good comments from everybody and I appreciated the constructive criticism from those that gave it. If you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as a bureaucrat then please leave me a note. -- Francs2000 21:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Girl Gamer Discussion[edit]

Hi -- I have zero experience with how these votes are interpreted (having only seen 4 or 5). In that context, I was surprised to see your summary of the discussion of the article to be "No Consensus". As a lay person I saw a 2-1 vote for keeping the article, with lots of comments about cleanup, so I expected to see some thing like Keep and Clean Up. Dunno if I'm asking you to take another look or just to educate me with a few sentences on what I'm missing. Thanks for your time. Coll7 18:07, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I just did the major rewrite on the article anyway, hopefully responding to the issues raised in the discussion. Thanks. Coll7 18:58, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you think a redirect is reasonable, would you consider withdrawing the Afd nomination? To me this issue can be resolved with the unneccessary drama of Afd. Friday (talk) 17:58, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
